Efficient budget cuts with friendly Vietnamese ladies! They take both walk-ins and appointments, though the latter of course gets priority. We've been coming to see Chao for almost 10 years, and usually call in the morning for a midday appointment. Jen has long hair and gets a layered cut. Frank wants the sides/back short and top longer (natural wave), so Chao uses a combination of scissors and clipper. I have come here for almost 4 years now for Hair cuts and their service has been top notch always, almost like a high end salon. They use a mix of scissors and clippers, do the razor on side burns and back of the head and leave you in a very clean , crisp look overall. The ladies do a nice job of making you comfortable and customize your cut to your needs. They also accept walk-ins, so I have never ever booked an appointment with them. Their price at $17 for a men's haircut is on the expensive side compared to other hair cut places nearby, but I am satisfied with their service overall that I continue to visit them everytime I need a hair cut. I just started to work around the area and was in need of waxing service. I wasn't planning to get it done but when I saw this place next to Philz I decided to try it out. It was 30 mins before closing but they were able to take me in and provided the service, Got lip and brow wax. The lady was very nice. wax is decent. After searching for a decent salon, I really like this one. I stumbled on this shop after going to several salon chains and getting bad haircuts then trying to go to some boutique salons nearby. It's not big, perhaps 4-5 chairs and every lady that work there are vietnamese. The haircut I get here are good and fit pretty well. I've been here many times during the week and service has been fine but I was disappointed by the lack of service on a weekend. I came in and no one acknowledged me, then someone stopped by and the staff said they're next since they dropped by earlier. Finally, when it was supposed to be my turn, another person came in and the staff told me this person had an appt so they're next. The staff needs to greet people and give an accurate sense of the wait time so the expectations of who is next are clear and we're not sitting there guessing. ***BIG TIP: Make a reservation before coming in, it makes it easier for the employees and you, although its a walk-in also.*** This is my routine haircut location and I plan on staying with them for a while. I am a 16 year old boy and I get my haircuts for $14 (CASH ONLY)-- its pretty reasonable (not including tip). The place is very presentable, and it looks like your standard, privately owned haircut place. Something to note though: they are all Vietnamese and they have strong accents; it might be a little difficult to convey your message or tell them what you want. I, for one, am Vietnamese, so I don't have much trouble, but I could understand how it would be difficult for some others. Have patience and come prepared with a picture or an idea of what you want your hair to look like. But they are all so polite and efficient with their haircuts, and it seems like they genuinely care for you. I personally recommend Donna, she's nice and she knows what she's doing. I mean they all do, but Donna has been consistent with my hair cuts, adapting even when I change my hair style. Good Haircuts, Good Price At first I was a little reticent to try this place. It didn't look like a fancy salon, and I wasn't sure what kind of a haircut I would get. I did try it, and I am happy I did. The stylists have good taste, which is the most important thing! They are very good at cutting women's hair. (There were also a couple of men there getting haircuts when I went). Their prices are very good. As far as their English goes (since another reviewer mentioned it), they can understand English just fine. They do have a thick accent, so it might be difficult for you to understand them, if you're not used to hearing accents. But, let me emphasize, they can understand what you're saying to them In English just fine. I go there to get my bangs trimmed. My bangs are slightly more complicated, as they're one of the newer styles, and they do a good job with it. As Jay C metioned, they do like to use the fringe scissors, so if you don't want that, you should tell them. I think the fringe scissors makes my hair look great. Also, if you go in there and make it clear that you don't think they can speak English and are rude to them, I don't think anyone would be too happy with that. Haircut (simple trim) - $18 + 4 tip Mani/Pedi/Haircut (simpe trim) - $55 + $10 tip Mani/Pedi - this was the most atrocious job I have had done in a long time. The cuticles were not cut well. The nail polish is old and clumpy. The layers applied thickly. The first layer isn't completely dried before the next layer is applied. It was uneven. Applied either mostly in the center of the nail (with clear nail on the sides) or all over the nail and the finger. When the lady smudged a nail, instead of redoing it, she applies more coat. When asked to remove and apply fresh, she indignantly asks if I'm sure. No nail dryer, just a little face fan. So flip flops are a must. The job was so bad that I removed the polish as soon as I got home. For $37, I would expect much-much better work. - 1 star for mani/pedi. Haircut - do not get your layers cut here. Hairdressers do not understand the concept of layers, and instead think of them as steps... Cut top half of your hair straight, then cut bottom half straght... I would only consider returning for a straight trim, but be prepared to indicate how much you want trimmed as they cannot judge where your split ends begin and good part of the hair ends. read more

He likes coming here, because the other place he used to go , used to not be so gentle, and the clippers would always hurt him. Haven't cut my (slightly past shoulder length) hair since it was a pixie cut a year and a half ago. Dropped in at 5:30 on Thursday to get an impromptu trim. I have natutral big curls if I don't style at all, and tried to communicate to my hairdresser that I wanted a cut that would make the natural curls manageable. Not sure if she actually understood... other than that I was open to whatever, mostly I just needed my hair to be a bit less of a mess. I also requested to cut as little length off as possible. It was an OK haircut. I watched her layer, she was very non chalant and when she finished my head and compared the two sides there was about an inch difference. That surprised me and is probably the main reason I won't be coming back. I'd expect someone in the business to cut a simple layer pretty consistently. Also since she didn't wash my hair to begin (because it would have gotten curly) I requested it be washed afterwards. I think I got charged extra for this. And then she asked how I wanted it styled, and I said just normal wavy-ish. She put lots of product in my hair (enough for "crunchy") that I had to rinse out when I got home. Just not a fan. Walked in for a simple haircut and left very pleased with the cut! I have long super thick hair, it practically is a nest. Anyways, they took me right away and the entire cut took about 30 minutes. I wasn't too sure what I wanted but just needed some kind of change. I settled with lots of layers and keeping the length of long hair that I have. I usually get my hair thinned out but after all the layering the lady said I didn't need it. She actually told me that thinking your hair actually causes more split ends. This is definitely a hair salon I can appreciate with their friendly service and skilled employees. *This review is for the nails part of the salon only. I came in here for a spontaneous manicure and was welcomed by a middle-aged woman (never gave her name, so I can only use age to describe her). She asked me what I wanted done, I said a gel manicure with gold polish, and she set off to work. The whole time she didn't come off as exactly "unfriendly" but never struck up a conversation and was constantly distracted by her surroundings. In other words, she was unfocused and did not pay me the least bit of attention. When she was done with one hand, she would brusquely jab me with her hand to let me know to switch hands. Is it that hard to simply ASK me to switch positions? I maintained my cool and didn't let her attitude get to me; however, the experience only got worse. After applying gel topcoats, the manicurist informed me she had only pinks and reds gel colors. Okay, I thought. I was upset they didn't have gold, but that's all right, I can settle for another color. I only wish she had told me beforehand that they didn't carry gold polish. While working on my left hand, the manicurist applied the polish very unevenly, with patches of nail still uncovered on not only one, but TWO fingers. She noticed this, and said, and I quote her exact words, "Oh it's no big deal. No big deal, right? It's okay." By this point, my demeanor was starting to falter. I coolly told her that she had missed TWO nails, not just one, and she must have sensed I was upset, for she then proceeded to add another coat of polish to the nails in a hurry, which ended up causing a BUBBLE to form on one of the nails. Three nails on my left hand were also missing polish at the sides, but the manicurist did not acknowledge them. Still, I didn't let this get to me. Up to this point, I was still decided on tipping the manicurist. Until her next move. After the gels had dried, my manicurist was filing the edges of my right hand, when suddenly, I felt a sharp pain. I looked at my pinky and realized she had CUT my skin from filing into it! To the point where blood was oozing out! I was in shock, shocked that a person who was supposedly skilled in this field would mess up something so simple as nail filing! She was so unfocused and distracted, she had filed my SKIN instead of my nails. Even the manicurist herself realized what she had done and called over her fellow manicurists and discussed (in Vietnamese, I believe was the language) this incident. She didn't even apologize or acknowledge her actions. Instead, she said she was finished with my nails, and another lady led me to the cashier counter to ring me up. The second lady brushed off the incident and "made up" for it by saying that they'll charge me $10 less because they were sorry they "didn't have the nail color I wanted", a pathetic excuse to make up for the actions. I would never set foot in this salon again, even if there were no more nail salons in the entire city. Five hours after the incident, my pinky STILL throbs in pain. No one deserves to receive a manicure as poor as this, especially if it costs $35! read more

This is the worst haircut I ever had! My husband and coworkers all agree. I went in showing a picture of the cut I wanted. The Asian woman nodded her head at me to show she understood. I told her I wanted to have my hair below my shoulders by pointing to my armpit area. She then tied my hair in a ponytail with a rubber band and trimmed off the pony tail. Immediately I was shocked. It was above my shoulders. I kept telling her it's too short. And she asked me to show her the picture again. That's when she knew it was not the same.
