We also got to meet "The Dude"--a Big Lebowski reference that made our visit even more enjoyable. One thing we really liked was the variety. We ordered mozzarella sticks, a chicken breast, and mashed potatoes, and appreciated that they offer many items individually rather than only as full entrées. TL;DR If you're in Durango and like wings, Cuckoo's is a must-stop. Cuckoo's. I've been coming for these wings since discovering them in the mid-2000's, then as a local later on. They're peerless in Colorado, IMO. Why? First, they're huge--the largest I've seen anywhere. While I appreciate hormone-free wings, they're tiny. Cuckoo's don't play that. These enormous wings are always cooked perfectly and often prove juicy enough to require a bib. Next, Cuckoo's has enough sauce choices to please most anyone. I learned the hard way to avoid the hottest two Buffalo-themed sauces, and now enjoy the medium. Eating wings should not be hard work. The medium and several other flavored sauces provide pure wing pleasure. I've family members who don't eat wings. They were stoked on the ala carte broasted chicken and kids' chicken finger meal. Fries, Cole slaw, and onion rings also got unanimous approval. While we got takeout this time, there's a full bar and reasonable selection of D-Town micros. Forgotten in my love of wings are the large TVs festooning the walls. This is a sports bar. If Albuquerque TV stations are not carrying your game, Cuckoo's can probably get it. Is Cuckoo's perfect? No. Hours are very limited. Staff can be surly for some, but have never been rude to me. While it's a stone's throw from the train station, signage is lacking these days. Look for the old (closed) Abbey Theater. 4.5 stars round up to five for wings that are matchless in Colorado. read more

In my opinion an absurd price for what you get. Our meal consisting of a half order of wings and two beers for two guys each plus one order of large onion rings to share, which consisted of probably seven onion rings, with gratuity was $86. I had a hard time deciding on the rating for this place- it's crowded, it's loud, the service is friendly but overworked. But the wings are simply the best I have ever had. My review is based on this. I've been coming here for almost twenty years. It's a busy sports bar so know what you are in for. This isn't fine dining, but you will not find better wings anywhere. I am originally from the South, and we have quite a few respectable wing joints, but the wings here are much bigger and the sauce selection is top notch. I'm not sure what kind of mutant chickens provide these huge wings, but I approve. The beer is also quite cold. A bit of warning: the sauces at the higher end are pretty spicy. The hottest, the cuckoos kicker is really just a novelty - I don't recommend it. I particularly enjoy brutal (a mustard-based sauce with a lot of heat), Steve's way (a traditional buffalo sauce, also on the hotter end), Asian persuasion (a less spicy sweet barbecue concoction) and the sweet and spicy barbecue, which is just what it sounds. I think most diners would find all of these too hot, particularly those accustomed to fast food wings like Buffalo Wild or Wing Stop. I've had other stuff here, like tenders and sandwiches and enjoyed them, but the wings are really what stands out. The onion rings are also excellent, the fries are hot and crispy but don't really stand out.If you are a sports fan, this is also a good place to catch a hockey or football game. Some other caveats: this isn't fine dining. This is not a good place for a quiet family dinner. They don't offer much In the way of veggie options. This is a wing joint, and for what it is, it is simply the very best around. Been coming here for years and this was the worst service experience we have had. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes with the bartender completely ignoring us while he watched tv. We decided to try a table since they were all being waited on. Sat there for another 15 minutes and not one person said a word to us. We got up and left after being there for 25 minutes +. We were really looking forward to this place since they advertise being the best wings in Colorado but we were left disappointed, hungry and out $100 for a family of 4. The wings were fatty, not crispy and drenched in sauce to cover it up. The Salsa for chips and salsa tasted from a jar. You could say the wings are expensive but each one has a good amount of meat on them. They're fried perfectly and taste incredible as a result.
