This was a fun place to stop. The kids loved the dollar bills over all the wallsZ we didn't get an opportunity to play the pool table. The staff was nice but we had to push to get a table cleared for us. The pizza took 40 minutes to make. The crust was good but very thick. The topping were good, the marinara side was very good. The ambience is what you'd expect at a bar moderately loud. We might comeback if we stay at Purgatory again as it is close and convenient to the slopes. read more

I have had hands down the most RUDE dining experience of my life at this restaurant. GET YOUR EMPLOYEES IN LINE. I asked for 2 sides of ranch with my pizza over the phone, shes says sarcastically "Like a whole bottle of hidden valley??". I get to the place to pick up and check that my order is correct and as the small purpled haired employee was launging on the phone with her friends, she puts her phone down just to tell me "It's all there HONEY" and laughs directly in my face. I think that people are only positive about this place because it's an oasis in a desert of options. The atmosphere is gritty, service is salty, and pizza is horrible. There is ten of us, and not one person could find something positive to say about it. And this is after a day of skiing and a rubber tire would have tasted good. We tried the pizza, calzone, salad, wings... I feel like we tried it all. I know what you're thinking, Durango is too far to drive for a pizza. True. So just plan ahead. Got a pizza from here and it was overpriced ($30 for a simple pizza) and charged for tip automatically, even though it was a take out order. On top of that, slipped on their slick stairs going down, got a hurt back, and every single slice went in the dirt. Went in and told them what happened, to see if they could replace the pizza and the guy responded "what do you want me to do about it". You'd think when a tip was included, so would some hospitality, but that was not the case. Will not spend my money here again. read more

We came here Sunday after skiing at Purgatory and had a good time. Some of us watched the football game and the rest of us played pool and shuffle board. Their pizza and ranch is really good. This place used to be the BEST pizza in our area until now. It's basically inedible! The Horrible tasteless pizza with barely ANY of the toppings we ordered to at least make up for the OVERLY thick yucky doughy crust. HORRIBLE! We've given them multiple times to give them a buy but it's actually getting worse with each attempt. Are there new owners or something?? Pizza very mediocre. Must have a new pizza cook bc our pizzas looked nothing like the photos on Yelp or online. On par with frozen grocery store pizza. I ordered two pizzas (veggie and pepperoni) and two salads for takeout, and my total was a shocking $76. When I asked about the outrageous price, I was told it included a 20% "gratuity." This is nothing but a sneaky "takeout fee." A gratuity is supposed to be something given voluntarily or beyond obligation, usually as a tip for service. Adding a mandatory gratuity for takeout is deceptive and unfair. This place is clearly trying to rip off its customers. read more

Before I say anything about the food, it needs to be said how hard the staff works!!! There's an event in town this weekend and they have been SLAMMED. Yet, continue to offer a smile to crabby patrons and work their butts off behind the bar and kitchen! The Ceasar salad is probably the best dressing I've ever had! So good. I thought I wrote a review for this place when we went in March. The last night we were there, we didn't want to cook and craved some wings and pizza. Found this place and it is my type of hole-in-the-wall. Walked in to some great music that continued through the night (can't remember which employee soundtrack, but kudos...especially with LCD!). It was not very crowded on a Thursday night, but that allowed us to play shuffle board while we waited for our food. We ordered the Homecoming Queen pizza, bread sticks, and Colorado wings. We almost got another pizza, but this was plenty for 5 of us. The bread sticks are perfectly seasoned and got us started while we played shuffleboard and drank our beers. Then came the wings that were dry, big enough, and cooked to perfection. The pizza was solid and we had enough to bring a couple slices home before the car ride home. After dinner, we shot some pool and the girls pinned their dollar bills on the wall to find the next time we are back! read more

We have a condo on the mountain, and eat at Schoolhouse whenever we are here. We were here the week after the 4th of July. First, the staff, both bartender and back of the house, are extremely friendly and helpful. If you want to eat upon arriving, make sure to order ahead (call in) during holiday and peak tourist times. There are several places for those that watched 'Cheers' growing up, which just make you want to live closer. This is one of those places. Best pizza in La Plata county (IMHO). Great atmosphere and service. Pool is free, but $0.50 cents if a ball falls on the floor, and $1 every time a pool stick does. read more

This place was expensive --the bar attendant/staffer was rude. The wait was about 1:45 and they decided to force a pick up gratuity which I disagree with 100%. There two items were over $50 and I had to endure rudeness from the establishment staff. The food was yeasty and more dough than anything. Situationally I'd rather drive to get food a few more miles or skip it. Never again, nor do I recommend as a foodie and expert yelper I know a raw deal when I see it and this place gets a big no thanks, never again for me and my family! Just minutes from Purgatory Resort. Opens at 4 and if you don't get your pizza order in between 4 and 5, your pizza might not be ready until 8:30pm. People love this place. Bartenders/employees super friendly and judging by the same faces 2 days in a row, the regulars love this place. Pizza was really good. Wings were alright. read more

Few options this far out of Durango, but this little 'dive' has friendly service, a dark 'cabin' atmosphere, big pizza oven and a comprehensive bar. Ceiling is covered with dollar bills, and there's a billiard table. I had the calzone, which was literally the size of a football... it was delicious (pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, sausage and tomato sauce) that's re-served as several breakfast bites. Spouse had the Greek pizza, the crust was perfect which she actually ate! I had the Mexican Lager and she enjoyed their Pino Grigio. Before you start reading this start heading there now. . We were driving by to get to the million dollar highway when this restaurant caught my eye. It was on the right side of the road. When you go inside you get this feeling of excitement seeing all the history of peoples bills on the walls. I walked around and looked at all the bills, and little knick knacks stapled on the wall, the ceilings, everywhere. I can only imagine how many great story and memories were held in this cozy little schoolhouse. This is definitely one of my favorite places and will be going back. The server was amazing she was telling us the the backstory of the business and how it was once a school house many years ago, they still have the school bell in the front of the restaurant. The pizza is amazing. If you haven't had a mouthgasm yet, this place will do it to ya. The pizza was very crisp and light. We also got the baked Colorado buffalo wings, they were nice and light. The only thing I regret is getting a small instead of a large. I also put a bill up on the wall. For me I don't like seeing tampered bills, I once received one and had carried it in my wallet for over six months not wanting it to go back into circulation. Friday night went in to eat, wait was 2 1/2 hrs even if you phone it in for take out. They recommended to call it in the next day that they open at 11 am. Saturday we place the order by phone to pick up. Told us 30 min. Great. We go pick up the pizza and they inform us the price and told us that it included 20% gratuity fee. I was taken aback and told them why am I getting charged 20% for me picking up the pizza. I told them That they should inform the clients when placing the order so the client decides if they want to pay for it or not. It's not their money to decide. It's very unfortunate because we have been coming here for 30 years and this has left a very sour taste in our mouth. Pizza is excellent, don't get me wrong. The problem is that since the pizza turn over is so slow that theh would make money from the bar and now they are not and they are trying to make it up charging gratuity for pick ups. The pizza from here is fabulous. It is delicious and cooked to perfection. We have always picked this up to eat elsewhere and have yet to be disappointed. Be patient. It takes a while so be sure to order at least an hour ahead but it is so worth it. read more

Fantastic if you're into medicore pizza, predictable, cheap drinks served by exceptionally rude staff in a cramped, dingy atmosphere.

The pizza takes a long time to make, but it is worth the wait! Super delicious and the old schoolhouse at night is super cool to be. Wish we stayed longer, but just took the order to go. read more

Completely over hyped pizza. The 16" pie is enough to feed an army with about a pound of cheese per slice. You get a good value here for sure, I was just expecting better quality with the reviews I've heard and read. Maybe when I go back and try the calzone I'll change my review, who knows. I would rate this pizza a 6/10. too much cheese to taste anything else. The pros are it's a great funky little dive bar. Good spot to stop on the way home from skiing for a beer. Pool table plus shuffle board (table could use some maintenance) has me sold. I like playing games when hitting a bar. And you can look at the dollar bill wallpaper all day long. read more

Last night 2.5 hour wait, so the drinks were great but we dined elsewhere. Tonight. Get the order in at 5pm, dinner will be ready at 8pm. Drink a few. Run the family home. Come back at 7:45. Couple of beers. Ask about our order a couple of times. The ladies prepping were amazing. The bar keep... ridiculous, complete idiot. Finally ask for a refund at 8:45. We came up ti the mountains between Durango and Silverton near Purgatory because we figured if isolating anyway, why not get a prettier view than our backyard in Austin? Seriously, the white pizza is everything they say it is--pure bliss. We came for take-out since corona has things locked down, but hey, I got 2-go beers and my wife, dog, and I enjoyed them waitin on take-out on the deck. A local was there at the same time and I helped him carry his order to his car--everyone wearing masks, but it was still nice and friendly. We'll be back. read more
