I try to judge a restaurant by their food as much as possible, but the experience of dining is also a factor for me. The food here was delicious but while I was here with my wife the owner was having a loud conversation with someone about the finances of the restaurant. After having seen us there I thought they would have waited until we left to continue the conversation when no one else was there, but that didn't happen. My wife and I visited this place for the first time in two years, and boy has it been upgraded! The inside is brighter and more inviting than how it was before, not that it used to be a dump or anything. The staff is quiet, but friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Since we haven't been here a while, we both played it safe and got the butter chicken in mild sauce. I should've asked for the medium, or even hot, because the mild was very mild, and could've definitely used a bit more of a kick. This is a clean, cozy space, with an attentive and helpful staff. The food is excellent, colorful and well presented. I had the Lamb Biryani, my wife had the Lamb Corma. We are an older American couple, so we ordered it mild. The seasoning was tasty and nuanced, with a heat level that was slightly low for me and slightly too hot for my wife. We each tried both dishes and pronounced them both delicious. The Nan and other tandoori breads were hot, tender and flavorful. The portions were generous, the lamb tender. This is a wonderful Indian restaurant serving authentic northern Indian food. About the only thing that makes it not authentic is the fact they serve some meat dishes. Northern India food offs buttery and not very spicy. I have been to northern India and this food is very authentic. I am gluten intolerant and was told that nothing had gluten in it except the naan. This being Salem Oregon, it isn't exactly the Mecca of Indian food. With that said, we have three local Indian food places in town, with each having their pluses. For this place, the butter chicken is probably the best in town. Tandoori chicken I would say it is second best, and tied for second best naan. The con to this place, no free chai. Both other places in town offer chai or soft drink with their lunch buffet, this one does not. Suggestion to the owner, please consider offering chai as part of the lunch buffet, my co workers and I would make this our only spot if you do. Otherwise we'll continue to alternate between here and the downtown Indian restaurant. read more

It's all delicious, nothing was less than a "good" (unless maybe you're overly picky about Indian foods). The reviews don't lie... the food here was amazing. We came in a large group and shared plates, so I was able to sample many different dishes. I can't say there was anything that I didn't like, and everything had distinct flavors/textures. I have to say that my favorite part of the menu is the huge HOMEMADE naan selection. Everything had the feeling of being home-cooked and nothing tasted pre-made or frozen. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. The restaurant itself was very clean and comfortable. Much improved over the previous Indian restaurant in this space. First off, I love Indian food with a passion. I'm generally not a fan of Indian buffet, so my review is just for dishes from the menu. Food is good and nicely seasoned, very nice heat level on the spicy dishes, naan is some of the best I've had, ingredients seem to be fresh and high-quality, and the service is friendly and helpful. The owner came and talked with us, could not have been a nicer guy. If I'm going to quibble a bit, the recipes might not be quite as complex or ambitious as India Palace. Given the frustratingly inconsistent food there, however, which ranges from sublime to huh?, I'd likely choose Cuisine India on a given night. Probably my favorite Indian restaurant in town. read more
