When: Wednesday November 26th, 2:00 pm; Party of 2 Adults. On this Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving, this Eatery was relatively slow, almost library like. Service was OK, but lacked any energy or enthusiasm. The turnaround of the food from the kitchen to our table was awfully slow. My wife ordered the grilled prawns over ravioli and believe or not, I ordered a Cheeseburger with coleslaw. My wife said her prawns was OK, but the ravioli too oily for her tastes. My burger was lukewarm and and lacked any memorable taste. In Salem, your dining choices are very limited and paying $56 before tip for an average meal is tough pill to swallow. read more

My husband had the steak and shrimp. He said it was just ok but he wouldn't order it again. His shrimp skewers had more bell peppers than shrimp. I was appreciative that the waitress brought me a GF menu when I asked about the meal I wanted so I ordered the parmesan Halibut because it was GF and a best seller. Their plate presentation was less than desirable and when they brought my halibut it was dry as a bone! I love fish and eat it regularly so I know how it should be cooked. This was horrible! I tried drawn butter to make it better but it didn't help. When I asked the waitress if it usually has some kind of sauce when not ordered Gluten Free she said no. I told her it was really dry an her response was " well it is one of our biggest sellers" and just walked away. She should have noticed that I had hardly eaten. any of it! I was blown away when she came back later with the full bill and asked if we wanted togo boxes! At that point I asked for the manager. The manager came and offered to make a new one to which I said I didn't want a new one as my family was done. Again she could see I hadn't eaten anything. I said I would like a discount or to have it taken off my bill. She again asked if I wanted it remade. I again said no. She irritatedly just picked up my plate and said "I'll just take this then" and walked away with no indication of what recourse she was going to take if any! We all just looked at each other in wonder and kinda chuckled at the very bizarre service! Then as were about to begrudgingly pay the bill the waitress came back with a new bill with it removed. While I appreciate them finally removing it, at that pointbut was too little too late. The manager was obviously irritated when she walked away. The waitress should have taken care of it and offered to have it fixed when I told her it was bad long before! This place needs training. The location near us closed and maybe this is why. It was my first time here, as suggested by my brother for a birthday dinner - his treat. He was looking forward to the 'all you can eat' platter and offered several suggestions, but when I saw the Chinook salmon, my mind was made up. I included a cup of clam chowder and Bleu Cheese wedge salad to kick things off. He started with a shrimp cocktail. Bread was good, salad was good, chowder was good, but I wasn't really wowed by anything but the service. My salmon was mushy, veggies; sparse. Shrimp cocktail sauce, plain, though I've admittedly been spoiled with a zingy horseradish burn from other establishments. While the server was pleasant and plenty attentive, when asked if we saved room for desert, it was a definite no. Upsell training; a better tactic would be to show off their seasonal pumpkin tiramisu (a trick learned in my server days). Another missed opportunity; asking if we were celebrating any occasions. Prices were decent considering the menu. Overall a forgettable experience, but nice visit with family. A solid 3.5, if I'm being honest. read more

We used to have a McGrath's where we live and loved their food. We were happy to see a McGrath's on visiting Salem. I ordered a seared ahi bowl. The ahi was presented completely black on the outside and tasting burned and charred although it was cold and raw on the inside (the raw interior was expected for seared ahi). The burned flavor was so strong I had to spit out the bite of fish which was embarrassing to me. I let the waitress know. She apologized. The manager came out and was rude. She said it wasn't burned, that was the breading on the ahi. I told her I know a burned flavor when I taste it and showed her I'd spit the fish out on my napkin. She insisted it was fine. (I've never run into seared ahi prepared breaded, anywhere, by the way.) My husband's dinner of rockfish was cooked properly but had little flavor beyond the smoky flavor from the wood grill. The food was great! We had the planked rock fish and the shrimp skewers and both were delicious! Our server was Brandi! She was delightful! Everything came out hot or cold (salad) and was excellent. The price was fair for the amount of food we got and we had left overs as well. The Hampton Inn staff recommended it and we are glad they did. It was a nice change from a cold dinner in the room. went there last night for diner, placed our order and the waitress asked us if we wanted bread, they always just brought it. They have the best sour dough bread. That is one of my wife's favorite things. Anyway what we got was just regular tasteless bread. My wife said she didn't want to come back. I took my dad to McGrath's on Lancaster for Father's Day and unfortunately we left shortly after being seated. When we arrived, the staff told us to sit anywhere. After we found a table and got settled, we were told we had to move because we were sitting in the wrong area. The interaction felt disorganized and unwelcoming. The waitress dropped off menus, but by that point both my dad and I felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. My dad rarely complains about anything, but even he felt unwelcome. I understand restaurants can be busy, especially on holidays, but a little friendliness and clear communication would have made a big difference. We decided to try this place last minute and while we had a decent experience it's not somewhere I'd visit again. The service was excellent despite having a new server undergoing training and the restaurant itself was quite large and decorated with various ocean themed decor. We started off with a few appetizers including the ahi poke and crab stuffed mushrooms and everyone agreed that this was the best part of the meal. For our entrees, most of us we're not in love with what we revived. The steak was extremely over cooked and the salmon was dry. Nice place, standalone building in a shopping mall. Entrance faces the street so it's awkward, especially when it's raining like today. You have to walk all around the building in the rain. The outdoor dining patio (walled off) looks like it "could" be the entrance but it is not. They should clearly mark which way to enter. I had the wedge salad and a great rockfish with cajun sauce. It came with a nice, warm sourdough bread and butter. Hard crust and soft inside. The wedge salad came with a huge wedge of lettuce and generous amounts of cubed tomatoes, bleu cheese, bacon and dressing. This should have been advertised as a sharing salad, it was too big for one unless you're eating it as a main course. My main was a blackened rockfish, crispy outside and a nice fresh fish taste inside. It was smothered with a New Orleans creamy sauce with shrimp, sausage, mushrooms, scallions, peppers and tomatoes. The sauce was a nice accompaniment to the fish. You have a choice of sides and I got green beans, nicely cooked, and garlic mash potatoes. Everything was good and seemed fresh. After sitting us down they had us waiting for 20 minutes with everyone else around us getting service; the table next to us ordered and got there food right away while no server came up to us even asking us what we wanted to drink. The best Seafood Restaurant in Salem. We have been dining here since 1993 when we moved here and is our family favorite for a night out. Although always busy, we have never had to wait long even without a reservation. The food is well cooked and every dish we have tried has been great. On Sunday we had lunch there using the coupon for the feast. To start off they did not accept the printed coupon we received for being a "valued member." She demanded we provide a phone number or email on file. We complied. I requested coffee. It was warm at best. I requested another cup and was promptly served another warm cup. She said the first was the last of the pot which was her first mistake. She claimed the second was from a pot that was full but not fresh. Second mistake. Still charged for it. The feast was served and found it to be very oily. The fish was not hot and lacked flavor. The crab balls were not good at all. The only thing we ate was the clam chowder and the shrimp. One of the four experienced stomach issues later that night. Overall I can say the decision to save a few bucks was a miserable fail. I'm afraid we will no longer take our chance eating at McGraths. If you want good clam chowder it's fine. We also shared a piece of key lime pie. Very good. It's not worth it. Never again. Good luck read more

They discriminate against people with food allergies and restrictions. Their servers have a huge attitude, including their manager. They exclude people with food allergies completely from their specials, stating they still have gluten free options on their menu, but someone who needs a small alternative to their "special" can't get it because "it's a special." The manager argued that they are still inclusive because they have a gluten free menu, but being excluded from the special is in itself discriminatory to people with special dietary needs.
