This time the owners daughter is extremely rude, trying to not sell bacon just because they're low on it. In looking for a great place for fish and chips, my boyfriend suggested Culpepper's and assured me their fish and chips were amazing. We called in an order to go and were severely disappointed. We ordered a baked potato and were assured that it came with butter, sour cream, and chives - potato instead was covered in melted cheese. We ordered the 2 piece and had an extra piece of fish added to each order; only one order had 3 pieces. The fish was not beer-battered, as indicated on the website, but rather had an extra crispy (almost hard) cornmeal type breading. The batter AND the fish were very overcooked. I have frequented this place for roughly 10 yrs, I generally only go on certain nights but I always order food and drink drinks. A couple weeks back I had a very rude waitress. I am in customer service so I understand sometimes nights can be off however, I have witnessed her behavior on several occasions. My husband and I came in this evening, we were greeted by friendly staff from the start. Our drink order, food order and service were fast and friendly! Our food was amazing and I can tell the cook loves his/her job! Awesome! No entertainment other than watching the regulars, but that was entertaining so I can't really complain. Where to start....The food was cold and lacked a lot everywhere. Customer service was no good as well. Nachos were 95% chip 5% cheese/toppings. Sampler was more like a kids meal if that. Staff was everything but nice. They were very rude and made it clear we were last on their list. && to top it off... you would think that being a bar/restaurant you'd make sure heat was a thing but that is also last on the priority. Would not recommend this place at all. came here being as we trusted word of mouth but after the service we got I WILL NOT be returning. hopefully the owners train staff better or rehire and turn this place around. The "WORST" Bar & Grill ever to eat @!! Waited sooo long to get our food practically starving with kids. Their food was Pre-fried from the night before. This is a large bar very spread out. If you sit anywhere other than at the bar, you'll not get served. It's really odd, but I've talked to several others who have been here and say the same thing. Actually, even at the bar it's hit and miss service. lt seems all the help hang out there and visit with each other and don't want to service the patrons. Their cocktails are very spendy and not worth the cost for bottom shelf spirits. I came here with a couple of friends to get some drinks, food, and shoot some darts. I ordered the Jalapeño poppers and fries but wasn't very impressed with their food. The Jalapeño tasted more like a green pepper. To top it off, they completely forgot to put my order in. She never got back to me and so I asked for a manager and the manager didn't seem to care too much. She said when you come back just ask for me and I'll discount something for you. To respond to your comment, your manager said there wasn't anything she could do except give me a discount next time I came in. I told her I live in silverlake/ everett area so I don't plan on coming back for a while if ever at all now. She said oh well then there is nothing else I can do..... honestly if she would have just been like can I get you anything different on the house like mozzarella sticks for example, this review would have been a positive one. It's the customer service skills that she lacked that caused this review. I understand the order didn't get put in, it is what it is but how it's handled is more important. Only the downstairs bar was open. My wife and I only had an hour to kill so we went in for a beer and an appetizer. Only one bartender working and was extremely slow. Took about 15 minutes to get a pitcher of beer. Place was not even busy. Also ordered a half order of nachos which took forever. I asked for no tomatoes, it came with tomatoes. She took it back and I told her that we didn't have the time to wait. She cancelled that off the check and I asked her for the check. Took another 10 min and I only got it because I walked to the bar myself. Pitcher of bud lite was $15, I tipped her $5 only out of necessity to get out of there because I had a $20. I have tried this place a few different times. I never want to judge my review on a one time visit. Visit 1 - upstairs with my daughters. I felt for the server having to run up and down the stairs for the kitchen to her tables. Must be a good workout! :) My salad was decent. My girls got chicken strips and fries & tots. The chicken was burnt tasting. When asking asking the waitress about it- she said that the cook said the oil was burnt. Umm.... I would think they would tell us that prior to ordering fried foods. I asked if they could get something else- and she rolled her eyes saying if she allowed that then the owner would make the waitress pay for it?!?! So she charged us- full price- for the meals. She said the manager wasn't available. Zip on tip. Visit 2- went with my bf and were downstairs in the bar. Had some drinks and ordered nachos with chicken. When they came out the chicken had a sweet taste to it. We asked what it was and she explained it was a barbecue type seasoning. It did not taste great so we asked if we could just get the nachos without meat since the chicken wasn't described as being "bbq". She again said that she would have to charge us for both nachos as the owner would not allow meal comps or send backs. I get that it isn't profitable to allow every meal to be sent back for this or that... but.... burnt oil and we still had to pay? Nasty bbq chicken on nachos and we would have to pay for both??? I go to this place at least once a month to eat some food and play pool. The food has always been great! I definitely recommend the Brat-ger and the fried pickles. The place gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights on the pool tables... The only way you will get on is if you blatantly walk up and ask to be next. If you don't, the regulars won't back off. Don't be afraid to stand you ground because the regular pool guys can be turds. The security has always been a help when the guys throw a fit about sharing! Let me preface this 5-star review by saying that this is a 5-star *bar and grill.* This is most definitely a local place run by local people, and I loved it! I work in the area, and came here for a drink with a coworker. Our server greeted us warmly and recognized where we worked, and we had a nice chat about our jobs. She took our orders and had everything out quickly. The food was perfect! It was everything I had hoped for. My coworker ordered something different, and she was pleased with her meal as well. This was my first time at this place, but won't be my last! I can't decide if I liked my food or treatment better. It was a really nice change to have a server talk to you like a human being rather than only a potential tip. This of course made her tip a little bigger than normal. :) If you are looking for a good meal without trying to be upsold and without an awful lot of frill, but with really great taste and equally great service, please give this little joint a stop! However, we have gone back three times since then and the service was slow. Food sat in the kitchen and got cold. Only people that seemed to get service were ones sitting at the bar. I went in a few weeks ago and had the Bacon and Bleu Burger and it was amazing. Obviously a fresh patty, and cooked perfectly. The service was lacking as it was a busy Saturday night and nobody came to our table for way too long, but the food made up for it. So I went in again tonight and ordered the same Bacon Bleu Burger to see if it was a fluke. Nope, it was amazing once again! I'm someone who likes a lot of condiments on a burger, but this patty could stand alone and be exceptional. The bacon and bleu cheese made for an even more delicious bite, every time. Thought we would try someplace new and/or different and saw the Culpepper's sign and decided to give it a try. The menu was pretty much the usual fare for a bar & grill but still quite a few choices. The waitress was VERY odd and perplexing. It appeared as though she was trying to decide whether to charge us extra each time we asked her either a question or for a refill or sauce. The lettuce on the burgers that were ordered was starting to get slimy around the edges from being wilted and there was literally a VERY small dollop of sauce on the center of the burgers. The waitress was VERY preoccupied with sitting in the empty booth texting and playing on her cell phone. While I appreciate people with original style, this waitresses hard look went hand in hand with her unusual behavior.
