I've been coming to Trapper's since 2019 and have always loved the food, atmosphere, and my two go-to rolls: the Vader and the Barricade. I've even attended one of their anniversary events, including the tuna carving hosted by the owner at the Bonney Lake location in 2025, which was an awesome experience. Unfortunately, the Puyallup location has been a completely different story. The last two times I've visited, the service has been incredibly disappointing. Honestly, the host seemed to do more work than our server. On my most recent visit, ingredients were missing from a sushi roll that I've ordered for years and know by heart. When I politely brought it up, the server insisted the ingredients were there, despite them clearly not being included, and then walked away without attempting to resolve the issue. Beyond that, there was virtually no interaction throughout the meal. We spent most of our visit trying to track down our server, who appeared to be actively avoiding our table. I don't remember her name, but she works on the bar side and has brown hair with bangs. As someone who worked in the service industry for nearly a decade, I have a lot of empathy for restaurant staff. I understand that everyone has off days and that busy shifts happen. However, this restaurant was nearly empty, and there was no excuse for the level of service we received. To be clear, I've only experienced these issues on the bar side of the Puyallup location. I truly hope management addresses it because it's a stark contrast from the experiences I've had at other Trapper's locations. It's 6:00pm on 3/27/26. Sitting in the bar with an amazing server Kyleigh, the best server in the place. We ordered appetizers, the Teriyaki chicken and Goyza. So the chicken was not cooked well at all and looked and tased undercooked. The Goyza was stone cold. I mean not lukewarm, refrigerator cold. So Kyleigh refired the Goyza and we said no to raw chicken. The rolls we ordered were tasty, but fell apart and a properly rolled Sushi roll should never come apart. I asked for no jalapeño masago. Yet yet dumped it all over the Red Dragon even after asking for it to 86ed and I know Kyleigh put it in that way. So again Trapper, this was not good, Josh the GM another failed guest experience. Service here is absolutely terrible. It took 10 minutes for me to be seated and have anyone talk to me. Customers were just awkwardly gathered at the entrance wondering if anyone was actually going to greet/seat us. They said they were going to "find me a seat" in an almost empty restaurant as if it was slammed. Waitress said she would come right back and didn't. I ordered 3 items and only two arrived. Zero drink refills were offered, I had an empty glass of water the majority of my stay. I wanted to order a drink and nobody was around. My server repeatedly kept calling me "baby" which was weird and uncomfortable since I'm a middle-aged woman. I wanted to leave so bad but I had already ordered and had to commit. As I was checking out, she said "You were my easiest customer today." Yeah, because you didn't actually give me any service and disappeared? I've been to Trapper's in Tolleson, AZ and they had the SAME issues. Seems to be a company-wide situation because I've never had good service here. The fish itself was very good and tasted fresh. We inquired about it and they told us that it went straight to the owner. Hmm trappers is failing their customers. To bad. Maybe they need the 3% to fix the broken TVs that they have in the bar. You can now select two half rolls which allows for more variety without over indulging. I love the CEO and Trump. Service is always friendly and timely when in Puyallup. Music is upbeat! Very disappointed in Trapper's Sushi in Sunrise Village. My family and I have been going to this establishment at least twice a month for the last 3 months, and always had a terrific time, except for yesterday. The staff seemed completely confused and out of sorts- maybe the A Team was out? The waiter was trying his best, but we could tell this wasn't his comfort zone. The rolls we ordered were just ok and the calamari appetizer was not good, like the oil hadn't been changed in a while. Not cool Trapper's. Although the place was clean, bathrooms were in shambles. Maybe management was out? Who knows. But to add insult to an already meh experience, there's now a 3% surcharge to eat in the restaurant on my tab?! Really not cool Trapper's. Don't think I'll be coming back any time soon. Which is a shame cuz I really liked the Lucy sauce. read more

The service is lacking, but the food isn't bad. Long story short, I think they're discriminatory. Long story long, this is my 3rd and final time dining at Trappers. The first visit I made to this establishment I was left in the front, while I was looked at and passed by at least 4 times by the host, for over 15 minutes before I was even greeted. The food wasn't the best, but I wanted to try again. The second time I came, I was ignored then reluctantly greeted and seated at a table in the sun while the blinds were up. When I asked to move, though it wasn't even half full or busy, the answer was no. This time I brought my children with me after my physical therapy and I noticed a trend. As I was entering there were people standing in the entryway waiting to be seated. The host skipped us and put other people on the list. A man of color was sitting and waiting patiently for a to go order. He said he had been waiting a while and that no one would pay attention to him at the pick up counter. When it was finally our turn and we weren't there for all you can eat, we were seated in the sun again. LITERALLY NO ONE ELSE WAS SEATED IN THE SUN. Blinds up. As we walked to our table we saw two people of color who looked frustrated at the pick up counter. The host said to them "someone will be coming shortly" and they got more frustrated. I don't know how long they had already been waiting. We ordered drinks and waited for the waitress to come back for our order. We ordered our food after arriving and being seated at around 1:40. At 2:20 another party who were not people of color were seated next to us in a booth out of the sun. By 2:35 they had drinks appetizers and their rolls. We still had no food and hadn't been offered refills on drinks or anything. My children complained to me as the other party enjoyed their food. When our food finally came it was sloppy, the rice on my daughter's chicken teriyaki was stale and crusty and her fruit slices tasted like soap. At this point I'm not the happiest with my experience and the audacity of asking for an 18% tip is influencing my mood. The whole thing made us feel like an afterthought. After having been here twice and this being the last ditch attempt to provide a good review, I can honestly say, I felt discriminated against in this establishment. Walked in to see the all-you-can-eat bar with several openings. we were told 10 minutes to be seated. 20 minutes later with only 2 people at the bar, I was told we couldnt be seated seated b 'cause the staff "needed a break". At 30 minutes, no one had come for us and we left and went to get Pho. there were staff standing at the bar waiting to serve someon and 4 people at the front desk doing absolutely nothing. laughing and chatting. We ate in the car after immediately getting the food and go figure it was cold and soggy like it had been sitting out for ages. I've visited trapper many of times. This is by far not a good experience. I did see that I was a busy night. I did patiently wait, however some that were on the wait list ended up leaving. I eventually got seated for all you can eat even though seats were available for about 10 minutes. Definitely no urgency to seat people there. Once seated hoping get a drink started and order something as well. But no acknowledgment from one of the sushi maker and one of the managers that was helping make sushi. People that sat down to my right were able to get something order almost immediately after sitting down after me. I patiently waited to see if the manager or other sushi maker would look up to acknowledge me. I ended up walking out of the place and ended up going home for dinner. Beware of To Go orders! Dear diary, I went to the restaurant on 12/30 with my friends at roughly 6:00pm. Sure, it was relatively busy, but it was also a Tuesday night. We decided to place to go orders to take back to my friend's house. The three of us were quoted a 40 minute wait. No problem. I ordered a few rolls before my "new year, new me" motivation kicked in. My total came out to be a little over $50. I was happy to fork out a little extra money to get some quality food with the guys. My friends and I went over to the nearby strip mall and looked around, understanding there would be a reasonable 40 minute wait. After roughly 50 minutes, we returned to the store. My friends both had their orders ready, but mine was nowhere in sight. The seven to eight other orders that were previously on the screen had already been taken care of too. I proceeded to wait another 40 MINUTES before my order was ready! Others came in, placed orders, and received their food. I was asked for my order name twice by the To Go employee across these additional 40 minutes and she never followed up with me, only insisted my order was being worked on the two times she approached me. Eventually, with no urgency or anything, my order was brought up to the counter and handed to me. I was offered no apology, no discount, or full compensation. Honestly, maybe it was just a bad night for them or my order got lost in the shuffle, but I didn't feel like my business was valued nor was my 90 minute order considered a priority at all while I patiently waited. My friend even said he was getting mad on my behalf, but I refused to let him lash out at the staff. Making matters worse, as we were finally leaving the store, a random couple approached us and said, "You guys finally got your food, huh? We were watching you the entire time. We sat down, ate, and paid while you were waiting!" Overall, what an incredibly disappointing experience. I highly doubt I'll be returning to that specific location and would encourage others to consider other options as well. PS: The food was good. I've been going to Trappers for years and have always enjoyed their food. We ordered today, excited for sushi and appetizers. Got the food home and after paying $8 for Tempura Vegetables we got 3 small mushrooms. A piece of zucchini and 2 onion rings. The sushi rolls are now half the size they used to be and the deep fried rolls all breading and minimal roll. I get inflation has become an issue but this is just poor quality food now. read more

Very first timer to this Sushi restaurant. Got seated promptly at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, 12/20/23. Sat at a booth and we were pleasantly greeted by the server. As we were looking at the menus, she politely asked us what we wanted for our drinks. After ordering the drinks, we checked out the menu and noticed a lot of rhe sushi rolls had cream cheese! Also, the priced seemed a bit pricey compared to other Sushi locales around the area. We ordered Calamari and for the sushi rolls - Amazing, California Rolls, Sushi Town and 'Tis the Salmon. Also got the Steak Teriyaki... After about 15-20 minutes or so, we got all of our food orders. We were kind of disappointed with the portion sizes of the food and sushi did not taste that fresh! Calamari was overcooked, chewy and rubbery. The seaweed, artificial crab and rice seemed old and a little bit chewy for the sushi rolls. Fresh seaweed does not taste like that, if you know what I mean. The California Rolls were kind of small and not as tasty. The other rolls were missing something as well. Overall, spending $133+ for mediocre sushi was kind of unsatisfying. The Steak Teriyaki seemed like an appetizer portion, so charging $25+ for that seemed a bit too much! This review is for the dine-in experience from the regular menu. No comment for the All-You-Can-Eat Sushi since we didn't try that... Decided to visit this restaurant based on our friend's recommendation. But probably won't be back again since there are better options in Auburn and Federal Way, for instance. read more
