They have always had the best customer service and selection of products. Now that they have partnered with ABW, you won't find Howard Cummins in the store ever day, but his influence is still very much present. I bought a Whirlpool clothes washer last Monday afternoon (December 20), and it was delivered and installed early Thursday morning. I can't imagine another place where you could get that level of service, especially the week before Christmas. A year ago, this washer started to get wonky, and I ordered a replacement from one of the home improvement stores. They cited a delivery time of 6 to 8 weeks. When that time elapsed, the delivery was scheduled, and on the day of delivery I was told there'd been a mistake, and I'd be waiting another month or two. I fixed it temporarily and used it until last weekend, when it literally began to fall apart. We'd bought kitchen appliances earlier in the year from Cummins, and didn't hesitate to call them, without bothering with any price comparison. Once again, Cummins worked a minor miracle for me, and I was able to celebrate Can in clean underwear. I will never bother looking elsewhere. read more

Was a steady customer at Cummins and now have worked with ABW. Had a great experience with John Williams - incredibly knowledgable about appliances. The showroom is small but they are expanding and have some things in the store. What is even better is that they have a big stock since they have multiple stores. Would recommend that you stop by - I had a bit of hard time getting though by phone but likely since it is so new. read more

I purchased the incorrect model for a garbage disposal. When I returned the unopened item back to ABW I was told they cannot refund me my money because the manager is not in the store and I needed to come back tomorrow. Then I was told stores don't take garbage disposals back. This is very poor customer service. I attempted to spend money locally due to the pandemic and this is the treatment I received. They did not ask if I wanted to order the correct model. Guess what? I'm taking my business back to the larger box stores. I've given this company Cummins/ABW lots of money since the shut down. Oh well lesson learned. 11/6/21 Update Travis, store Manager, returned my call this morning. My son had already planned to go to the store instead of me. I explained the situation to Travis and took full responsibility for purchasing the wrong item. My son just text me saying the garbage disposal has been returned and a refund issued against my credit card. I've updated my rating from 2 stars to 4 because having a customer return a second time is not ideal customer service. read more

I purchased an upright frost-free freezer Nov. 27th, which was delivered Dec. 8th. I have been listening to the freezer alarm everyday since it was delivered. The freezer alarms goes off every 4-5 hours. Contacted the store 12/9, and a repairman came out 12/17. He said a wire was looose and the fan was not working. The repairman started the fan and within 3 hours, after he left , the freezer alarm went off. I texted (12/21)Mr. Cummins to explain my problem and asked for a new freezer. Because my food was still frozen, he did not think I should get a new freezer. He said it was probably just an electrical problem which the replacement of a part would fix. " I sell them, I don't make them" I was scheduled for a repairman to come 12/24 (Christmas Eve!!!). On this repair visit, I was told a new sensor and mainboard had to be ordered!!! January 22nd. I have not heard anything from Cummins Appliance and the freezer alarm continues to go off every 4-5 hours, day and night. I should be compensated for having to hear this alarm for over a month. read more

We recently made our 3rd purchase over the past 2 years from Howard Cummins - and based on our cumulative experience would rate Cummins Appliance as excellent. So far we've purchased a downdraft vent, LG 3900 Washer and Dryer and this past week a Bosch 800 Series dishwasher. Each time I've found Howard to be extraordinarily responsive and patient. I was confident each time that he provided the insights that allowed us to make the best purchase decision. As an independent local business I was concerned he wouldn't be competitive on price. I actually found out he was very competitive with all of the chains that sold the washer/dryer and dishwasher. I also want to take time out to recognize Alexander Smith, who installed both the downdraft vent and the dishwasher. Both times he was timely, efficient, left the space the same as he found it - and was friendly at the same time. He also went out of his way to find a creative solution when the new downdraft vent did not fit into the space where the prior one was installed 25 years ago. He was persistent and wanted to make sure we were satisfied customers. I suspect we'll need to buy more appliance sin the future - and Cummins will be our 1st choice! read more

We often call them with only a customers name and they are able to provide us with an appliance history and model information. Their staff is knowledgeable and abiding, which is very helpful to us. My refrigerator died. Cummins had lots more brands and models than the big box stores. They were very patient as (over the phone) we discussed possible models and what was in stock. They had an opening in their delivery schedule very soon! The installers arrived on time and were professional and friendly and a joy to work with. The insallers took away the dead refrigerator, and installed the new one, quickly and without complaining on a hot hot day. Did I mention that the owner stayed well after closing time to inform us of the delivery time? I am very very pleased with the experience. read more

We ordered an Aga Legacy range from Cummins. The range arrived at their store quickly and they kept it there until we were ready for delivery. Very nice! Delivery was made on time and with no issues. After the deliver people left we noticed a manufacturer's defect on one of the oven doors...a paint bubble. I called the store and spoke to Howard. He requested that I put all of the info in an email and include pictures. The repair was outsourced to Jim's appliances. I was told that we would need to wait for a new door from the manufacturer. About a month later a repairman from Jim's brought the new doir, opened the box from the factory and there was a huge scratch across the replacement door! The repairman took the damaged part back with him and we haven't heard from them again. I will call them today to check the status. I realize that the manufacturer needs to produce the replacement part so I've been really patient but Cummins should be aware that who they outsource their repair work to are not coming through for or communicating with their customers. Until this problem is fixed I'll keep the Cummins rating at a 3 star... read more

We purchased a GE built-in microwave oven from Cummins just under 2 years ago at a cost of $625. When it stopped working, they told us that I would be better off contacting GE to repair. When we had a difficult time getting GE to fix it properly we went back to them to see if they could step in and help us on behalf of their customer. They said "no ... they wouldn't even try". When we asked to speak with the owner (Mr. Cummins) he didn't want to hear about our service frustrations and blatantly hung up the phone on us. How poor can service be from showroom to post delivery? You don't have to guess with Cummins, they keep on bringing disappointment to new levels! Let me not dwell on their rudeness and move to a delivery person who placed a gas range in the intended space in my kitchen without turning the gas back or checking to see if the appliance was working before he left. "I guess he forgot," said legacy crusher Howard Cummins. After I called to complain about that and the greasy fingerprints left all over my stainless appliances, I was told someone could be there first thing the next morning. That wound up being 10:30am. I was asked by the person they sent out if I received my free stainless cleaner, I said no. Still waiting. I spent over 5k on appliances. When I asked for a refund after being charged to haul away our old appliances when we already removed them, the aforementioned Howard gave me a credit of $15 per appliance, his cost, not what they or any other retailer charge a customer (you have to call as a "secret shopper, they don't itemize"). Do you have a moment to hear about how Howard has not only ruined a brand his Father built by not training his installers, but the brands he sells, in this case, Bosch? You may have noted I said "delivery person" because my range and dishwasher were not installed. Appliances are like cars, they are computers. You have to program them. Not Cummins. They just plug em in. Why spend thousands of dollars on an 800 series, high end Bosch if Howard is going to tell you to read the manual if you want the dishes to dry. My dishwasher was full of water after the cycle and he refused to send someone out to adjust the settings. Pour in the rinse aid, Howard's said, and read the manual. That's where you can read about the settings that you, you the customer can program yourself. Howard even sent me copies of the Bosch manual pages by mail after I told him I wanted a refund on the "installation." I called Bosch and they had someone come out and adjust the settings for me. I'm headed to small claims court In conclusion, unless you're going for a low end appliance or areone of the people I heard say "he'll fix it eventually" please know you will do better virtually anywhere else. read more

I recently purchased a GE gas stove from Cummins. The delivery was on schedule. Upon uncrating the stove I noticed a defective part. I asked the rather surly delivery men about it. They made a half hearted attempt to fix it. When they were unable to they told me I'd have to schedule a service visit. Great a new stove needing service, strike one. After hooking up the stove the broiler was DOA. I scheduled service which arrived as scheduled. A new part was installed and the broiler was repaired. The next day I was using the broiler and my house filled up with noxious fumes. I spoke to Howard (the owner) and he told me it was a coating that needed to burn off. I requested service just to be safe. The service tech confirmed it was a chemical that burned off that irritated my eyes and throat. I was not informed of this in advance by Cummins or GE. Two service calls on a new stove in my opinion is too many. I'm very unlikely to deal with Cummins again. read more

A small business with a good selection of laundry and kitchen appliances. I moved to Baltimore City and purchased a stove vent hood, a stove, and a refrigerator from them to furnish my new place. The salespeople do not work on commission. Although they may not exude enthusiasm (but who would, selling appliances every day?), they are courteous, and honest. Cummins does not have any price match guarantee like the big-box stores, but the prices they do set are generally quite competitive, especially considering they hire all their own service technicians and they service the products they sell (though I haven't had any experience making any service calls yet, fortunately!). Lots of the big-box stores subcontract out their service nowadays. Also, at least on some appliances, they offer partial refunds (in cash) on their extended warranties if they go unused after the warranty period, which is a nice bonus. This will definitely be one of my shopping stops if I need more appliances in the future. read more

I have a 78 year old house with very difficult access to the basement. When we purchased our last dryer 12 years ago, they had to disassemble it on the driveway and take downstairs in pieces. When I attempted to purchase a dryer from any of the big box stores, they would not even discuss the delivery with me. So I called Cummins and they were willing to work with me. I took pictures and made measurements. They found a dryer that would fit and promised I would have it in 3 days. The very nice delivery crew had to lift the dryer over a stone wall but got the job done. We need family owned stores like Cummins!!!! read more

Not only was the staff incredibly rude but the salesman lied to us. After we did all our research and were ready to purchase our appliances, he suddenly 'realized' that he had undercharged us $100 for the labor. We innocently complied and paid the new price. When they later called to delay the delivery of my appliances, I spoke to the owner to request that they deliver on time. I could not believe how rude he was to me. On top of that, the man who installed my washer and dryer was incredibly disrespectful. I then decided to look online at reviews for Cummins appliance and I proceeded to find out that I was not the only customer who was scammed into playing an extra $100. I was in need of a new dishwasher. I shopped all the big box stores and researched reviews and prices. Before making the purchase, I decided to give this local business a shot since they are so close to my office. I walked in late on a Tuesday afternoon and was immediately greeted by a helpful salesman who showed me the best model in my stated budget. The price was only $10.00 higher than the big box stores but no problem, they matched the price. Delivery was arranged for my preference of Friday morning. Delivery, installation, and haul away are extra, but none of the big box stores had all those services included in the price either, so you'll pay extra no matter where you go. Delivery team was polite and helpful, ran the dishwasher to make sure it worked and showed me the basics of its operation. If you're considering making an appliance purchase, please consider supporting this local business. They WILL price match to the big box stores and the customer service is very good. read more

I would avoid this company at all costs. Once I chose the product I wanted, after asking many questions about my needs, I paid for the item. I was not given appropriate or accurate information, which I later found out once the item was delivered. The delivery men were to set up and demonstrate, but they said they don't know anything. All they do is deliver. My salesperson, again, said he made a mistake;there was no rebate on the item I selected. Had I known that, I would have selected another item. Also, after paying, I was told I was going to have to buy another piece of equipment which was critical. My purchase ended up costing me close to an extra $1,000 because of the salesperson's lack of honesty. I called them to remedy the situation to no avail. Save your money and aggravation. Over the past few years, we have purchased a refrigerator, a dishwasher and most recently a stove. Up to this point we have been big fans of Cummins. The installers have been prompt and courteous, the parts department were very helpful. NOW, we are very dissatisfied! We purchased a Kitchenaid downdraft stove. We were told it was self-cleaning by the salesman. .Only the bottom pan of the oven is self-cleaning. The sides and top need special cleaning products and manual scrubbing.
