'Stuffed' Chicken Breast ... a fabulous Special!
    Wendy F.

This gem is conveniently located in the heart of Mount Pleasant in a stand alone building anchoring the Fairmount Shopping Center on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. There's plenty of parking which is always appreciated. The bright, beautiful, upscale dining room was surprisingly busy on this Wednesday evening, early into dinner service. Our server, Jim, approached us right away with menus and to tell us about the specials. My companion went with a garden salad and Pollo alla Griglia. I selected a Caesar with dressing on the side and one of the specials, the "stuffed" chicken breast. Bread was served quickly. Unfortunately, it was disappointedly underwhelming which perhaps was a good thing given what was soon to arrive. The Griglia was a large pounded and grilled chicken breast sautéed with mushrooms in a white wine sauce, which also lightly topped the accompanying generous portion of spaghetti. My tremendous chicken breast was actually pounded thin then prepared, jelly roll style and tucked in, filled with spinach, mozzarella and sliced cherry peppers ... then, baked ... wrapped in crispy prosciutto, topped with blistered cherry tomatoes, accompanied with a lightly pomodoro-sauced, adequate portion of penne. Both dishes were delizioso! We passed on desert but I couldn't leave without ordering a cannoli to go. Our server, Jim, was stellar. In case you were wondering, dinner was pricey, just a tad under $100 before tip, but this was fine dining and we didn't need to pay for parking to get the experience. If you haven't been, go ... if it's been a while, make your reservation! You'll love it.

We had heard the word that this was an underrated Italian spot in the area. The menu was very reasonable and had everything you could want: pasta, seafood, ravioli, veal, and delicious apps. Our waiter Jimmy really made the whole experience. He was top notch and a seasoned vet! He came across as an owner and was patient and guided us to all the food he knew would bring the table to life. We started with some wine and stuffed mushrooms and antipasti with prosciutto and mozzarella. The mushrooms were unbelievable! We all agreed that we picked the right place from that point on. We decided on lobster ravioli, shrimp and mussel pasta, veal Parmesan and chicken piccata. The entrees were all excellent and another bottle of wine was the perfect complement to round out the experience. They have a small bar as well to relax if you're in solo. This place has some great soul and we heard the chef hails from Sicily. Give them a try!

One of the finest Italian restaurants anywhere. Excellent freshly prepared food , great wines and excellent service. The lemoncello cake is an incredible dessert to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

Food was so good and huge portions (we could have honestly shared the meal there was so much!). The complimentary bread and olive oil were delicious. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Large, open area with beautifully decorated tables and there is a screen at the front with a live feed from Venice. Plenty of parking as well! It's a must try!

What a great place. I've had good Italian food but this was the next level above. Veal cooked to perfection, service was excellent , and food had so much flavor. This isn't one of those small plate bullshit restaurants that you eat 5 bites and you're still hungry. This place actually gives you what you pay for. I lived up north and had some good Italian but I honestly can say this is even better. I don't need to go downtown or anywhere else in Charleston for Italian food again.

We had an enchanting dinner at Lola Rose and already are planning our next visit. The staff was excellent, every person there was cheerful, knowledgeable and polite. Our waiter Colby was a gem and could not have been more attentive and adorable! The food was fantastic. The dishes have strong bold flavors, everything we had was well seasoned and clearly created with care and attention. The fluffy cheese is not to be missed, I'd order it by the gallon if I could. The patatas bravas are crispy with a smoky smooth tomato sauce that is killer. My group did a bunch of different apps and split everything, tapas style, which was a lot of fun. The pizza had a great crust and very tasty toppings. The portions are a really generous size for a restaurant of this caliber and the dishes are reasonably priced. The decor is elegant without feeling pretentious - perfect for a special fancy night out or a simple night out with friends. Even the bathroom is cute! In the summer I highly recommend getting one of the frosé drinks -it's so rare to get a frozen drink that actually has complex and balanced flavors and isn't just sweet frozen ice. I loved my pina mai tai, and my friend loved her basil pink lemonade. This restaurant is being added to our must stops when we visit this area, highly encourage everyone to check it out!

I also love the interior color used, as it is warm and relaxing. We like to sit at the booth bars, as they are just 2 tops, but give an added privacy by the design. Lola Rose features a comforting and approachable menu of big, seasonal salads, wood-fired pizzas, housemade pastas, local seafood and traditional mains. At the bar, classic favorites are served alongside creative spritzes and cocktails, local beer, and a wine list that focuses on Mediterranean and coastal American winemakers. Plus Lola Rose is the second concept from James Beard award-nominated chef Kevin Johnson and his wife Susan, who opened The Grocery in downtown Charleston in 2011. We have had the pleasure of seeing him in action and he is always approachable to the guests. We have visited Lola Rose several times and enjoyed many menu items. The rosemary focaccia is always a must order. Other great starters are the arancini, Sicilian meatballs, and our favorite is the roasted beets. Another great option to start is with a pizza, they have 9 different pizzas to choose from. Then an appropriate entree would be a pasta dish, we like the rigatoni verde and the bucatini. Note their pastas are all made in house. On our most recent visit we ordered the seasonal Softshell Crab special, and it was impressive and more delicious then expected. We appreciate that they had this item during the softie season, and this tops our list. Don't forget dessert as the budino and limencello cake are delicious sweet endings. Lola Rose makes going to downtown Charleston un-necessary, and it's location is easy to get to with plenty of parking. The service and the menu make it worth the visit, and we would recommend to all.

Our server recommended 2-3 dishes per person and we went with 9 for 4 people. The dishes come out as they are prepared and they are all designed to be shared. We also had calamari, burnt broccoli, stuffed mushrooms, artichoke arancini and baked clams. We would not order the stuffed mushrooms again-they weren't really stuffed. They just had some bread crumbs on top. They were cooked in a lot of butter, and the flavor was good, but they can't be considered stuffed. The drinks were pricy-If you like wine or cocktails, be prepared for a high price (though I think most are consistent with downtown). The sangria was delicious.
