Boy, it sure was hot by the standards of this Minnesota guy visiting South Carolina when we stopped at Frannie & The Fox for lunch during our anniversary trip to Charleston. Just finding the restaurant turned out to be our first challenge. It's tucked away inside Hotel Emeline, and although our GPS brought us right to the hotel entrance, there was nothing to indicate that a restaurant was inside. Thankfully, the gentleman at the door noticed us looking a bit lost, asked if he could help, and pointed us in the right direction. When we arrived for lunch, there weren't many people there, but the restaurant became noticeably busier as we dined. Our server appeared to be handling both bartending and waitressing duties. As the restaurant got busier toward the end of our meal, her attention became more sparse, and getting the check and paying took longer than we would have liked. We shared a wood-fired pepperoni pizza and a chopped salad, and both were very good. The pizza had excellent flavor, and the chopped salad was equally enjoyable. I also enjoyed a Pardon My French cocktail, which rounded out my meal nicely. We enjoyed the atmosphere and thought it was a fun place to dine. The food was good, and we enjoyed ourselves. That said, nothing about the experience really stood out as especially memorable or gave us a compelling reason to return. It certainly wasn't a negative experience. The food was delicious! Our service was horrendous and two managers failed to address our concerns. In the middle of our meal and at the end. Did we want drinks? Yes! Did we order drinks immediately? Yes Did we get them? Yes, after our appetizer, entrees and sides, approx 25 minutes later. Did she blame the bar? Yes! Was it the bar's fault, no! Did she ever come back to our table to check on us? This spot screams girls night! I sat outside at the courtyard on a Saturday night. I loved the variety of couches, dining tables and half bench tables. I started with the spring peas which was different than expected but in a good way! It was more of a salad than a burrata and bread dish. The chicken Milanese was fantastically crispy and the potatoes were a great to eat up the sauce. The margarita pizza was super thin but refreshing. When I was researching restaurants to visit for my upcoming Girl's Trip, Frannie and the Fox was one of the most frequently mentioned places. The decor of the restaurant gave high-end vibes but not "posh." So I didn't feel like I was eating outside of my tax bracket if you catch my drift. The service was wonderful and the waitress was kind enough to offer us a variety of recommendations. We ended up eating "family style" so we all ordered something different and then shared a bit of everything. We ordered the Beef and Pork Meatballs, the Whipped Bone Marrow, the Rigatoni, the Squid Ink Spaghetoni, and the Margarita Pizza (not pictured). I would say my favorite dish of the night was the Squid Ink Spaghetoni and I think it definitely deserves some more hype. We popped in for a drink - shout out to being open on Christmas!! - and were pleasantly surprised by how cute the place was. It's a hotel bar, though open to the public. They had the cutest little yurts set up on the patio, and I NEED to check them out next year!! The fire was burning on the patio and it was very comfortable to sit outside. The inside is also cute, and was open air connecting to the patio. We just ordered drinks, a spaghett and a beer, during a slow period for them. We loved this place so much that we ate here twice during our trip to Charleston! The first night we ate here because it was a stone's throw from our planned ghost trip. We made reservations so we were immediately seated. We placed our order for meatball appetizer, caesar salad, and the white pizza (sorry, forget the name!) and added pepperoni. 5 stars across the board! However, I will say, on our next visit, I ordered the Pizzaiolo chopped salad and topped it on our pizza and THAT IS THE MOVE. The pizza is the perfect salad vessel and the only way to eat it. The ambiance and moody vibe of the restaurant draws a fairly young crowd to the bar on the weekends, but the food and wine was excellent and we enjoyed our meal. I stayed at this hotel previously but had never eaten at the restaurant. We finally made it for brunch on our last trip to Charleston, and I'm so glad that we did. First of all, what A CUTE PLACE! I absolutely love the decor and vibes here - everything is clean and sharp, and the colors are deep and classy. Seating is available indoors or out, weather dependent. We sat on the patio and it was beautiful weather. Our server was perfect, table touches were on point, didn't write a thing down but got our orders perfectly for a four top. We had drinks and entrees and everything was excellent. My campari spritz was amazing and my dad had a really good bloody mary. Nice, crusty bread with a whipped savory butter and sweet/sour tomato onion jam. Delicious! - Blue crab fritters are always good - crunchy and paired with a yummy sauce. - Caesar salad was good, classic, with a hint of welcome spice. The croutons are delish! - The taleggio pizza is my friend's favorite. Crispy crust, savory cheese, and sweet and spicy honey. It hits all the right spots, but does get a little grainy when cooled. - The spaghettoni was a letdown for us. The noodles seemed to be just a bit under al dente and there was no outstanding flavor. Our first meal in Charleston. Our group of 4 landed, checked into our hotels and quickly looked for something within walking distance. It's located in the Emeline Hotel and is an Italian wood fire eatery. The ambiance was really nice. I would describe it as Californian chic, open concept with large windows and natural sunlight but still cozy and intimate. My recollection is a bit blurry, but the Beef & Pork Meatballs with whipped ricotta was the consensus favorite dish. The pizza was also decent, but not as Neapolitan or airy as I would like. The sourdough bruschetta was okay, but I remember the bread being a little chewy and difficult to eat. Same with the chicken cutlet. I faintly remember it being a little tough and the broccoli rabe was too bitter for my liking. Overall the ambiance and the meatballs get 4 stars. You could even ask to be seated outside in the courtyard which has a beautiful brick fireplace. The food on the other hand was very lack luster. We went for lunch and didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. It is inside the Wmmeline hotel and has a really nice patio. I had a spritz and my husband got a beer.
