We also loved the fries that garnished it; they were almost like a hash brown. We also shared a pasta with ricotta that was incredible. Obstinate Daughter had been on my Charleston-area dining wishlist for quite some time and judging by how difficult reservations were to secure, I was clearly not alone. Despite being ready when reservations opened, the best we could manage was a lunch reservation. No worries though because lunch at Obstinate Daughter is better than no Obstinate Daughter at all. We were able to find parking in the neighborhood and had a short walk to Middle Street. From the moment we entered the establishment, I understood the hype. Our server, Sara H., was wonderful throughout the entire meal and we kicked things off with cocktails: the Abandon Ship and All Hands on Deck. Both were excellent and set the tone for what turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip - and there were a lot of highlights!!! I also ordered the Tuna Crudo special, which was incredibly fresh and a great way to start my meal. For the table, we shared the Local Lettuce Salad, the Farro with Chicken, and the Moultrie Pizza. Everything was seriously fantastic. The Local Lettuce Salad was simple but executed perfectly with croutons, parmesan, egg, and buttermilk vinaigrette. The Moultrie Pizza, topped with pepperoni, Mepkin Abbey shiitake mushrooms, tomato, mozzarella, and parmesan, disappeared quickly. And the true star of the meal for me was the Farro with Chicken. The combination of Brussels sprouts, peanuts, balsamic, black truffle, and perfectly cooked chicken was absolutely incredible. If I lived nearby, I would order this dish again and again without hesitation. Considering the restaurant's location on Sullivan's Island and its well-earned reputation, I also thought the prices were relatively reasonable. I loved the vibes. It was packed but the service never wavered. This meal was so, so, so, so, so good. In fact, if we could have snagged another reservation during the same trip, I absolutely would have returned. Definitely wanted to try this restaurant while out in Sullivan's Island due to the reviews and awards! Wasn't able to get a reservation even thought I checked the day reservations opened weeks before- extremely in demand. We went on a Sunday at 5 pm and was told sitting inside would be 1 hour and 15 minutes. We waited and got a nice table inside. The upstairs is really cute. We ordered the local lettuce salad, gnocchi, oysters, moultrie pizza, halibut, and peach hazelnut cake. I had high expectations, and was a little disappointed in the food. The salad was a big portion for the price, but all the lettuce was soggy, with no crisp to it. The halibut was a bit chewy for my liking, and really expensive, so not worth it. The gnocchi and the pizza were really good and would definitely get again. The hazelnut cake had peach sauce on it that was very sour, which I was not expecting. Overall I didnt think the food was worth the wait, but would definitely go again if I had a reservation. It's right by the beach so you can do a nice stroll after. I came with a friend without a reservation on a Saturday night - it was a 45 minute wait to get a seat and the staff was able to serve us drinks and we were able to get gelato in the meantime. About eleven years to the day, my wife of eleven years and I returned here for a third visit, and found everything exactly as before. Could we have time-traveled? OD has been open about twelve years now and looks like it opened for business last week--the decor and design has aged wonderfully, most of it looks brand new. The staff was as delightful as we remembered, and our waiter was helpful without being pushy in the least. But of course, we came back for the food and we were not disappointed! If anything, we appreciated the amazing quality and care taken with both our meals, and the cocktails were beyond belief. They texted us when our table was ready (which was earlier than we had anticipated). We were seated upstairs at the bar. The two bartenders that took care of us were super kind and attentive. It was PACKED. But as lunch went on, the rush cooled down. This place feels like it's for the girls. It's trendy and cute. The decor gives "inside a ship." We were at the end of bruch time and my fiancé got the brunch quiche. He adored this. I got 1/2 dozen local oysters. They were divine. They were hands down my favorite oysters I had in Charleston. And I ordered the lowcountry shrimp roll. This was super yummy. I will say there was an ingredient in there that made it feel a little off for me, but I think that was just a personal thing and overall it was tasty. The polenta fries were decadent. This was the first restaurant on my list for our visit to Charleston. I didn't realize that it was on Sullivan's Island as opposed to downtown. It was a short drive though, definitely worth making the trip, especially if you combine it with a beach excursion. Another pro tip is to make reservations early. Now onto the food, the oyster selection was delicious, personal favorite was the variety Single Ladies, love the hint of sweetness. The popular farro app was also a hit. I am not normally not the bigger fan of farro, but this was done so well. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, great way to start your meal. The Radiatore was a bit of let down for me. The pasta was well cooked, but I feel like it was lacking something, it was bland and missed a punched of flavor ala the farro dish. Pizza was good, nothing to write home about. The salad was pretty good - the dressing was yummy and the croutons were buttery and fantastic! I just didn't think there was enough dressing provided for the large serving of greens, but toppings were great. It lasted me two meals since the serving size was so big, but it was still good both cold and reheated. I'd love to be able to try the food fresh in the restaurant soon. Every dish we ordered was a hit. The Farro Piccolo with Brussels sprouts disappeared in minutes and was one of our favorite appetizers. The Peach Salad with whipped ricotta, tomatoes, basil, and spiced almonds was fresh, flavorful, and perfect for summer. For our mains, the Radiatore "alla Vodka" was phenomenal. The homemade radiatore pasta held onto the creamy vodka sauce perfectly, and all three of us agreed it was one of our favorite dishes of the meal. The Ricotta Gnocchi was another standout--pillowy, homemade, and paired beautifully with the rich short rib ragù. We also shared The Rutledge pizza (half with Italian sausage and half without for the vegetarians at the table), and it was cooked perfectly with a crisp crust and was the ideal size for sharing among three people. Holy Moley! This was by far my favorite meal I've had in Charleston, and I've been lucky enough to visit a lot of great spots. First the service was amazing, I wish I remembered our servers name, but to be honest the entire staff worked as a team. The peach ricotta salad was seasoned well- the basil/pesto added such a nice flavor to the sweetness of the ricotta and peaches. For our entree we shared the torchiette. Being Italian- I've never heard of this pasta so I was intrigued. It was corn, butter, jalapeño and scallions. It arrived and I'm not going to lie- my instinct was I wasn't going to like it, it wasn't saucy enough and it looked blah. One bite and I was obsessed. This dish was amazing, it had bread crumbs on top that added that slightest bit of crunch, pasta was cooked perfectly and it wasn't spicy at all! The corn was sweet and onion was a really nice touch.
