My wife and I were looking for a pizza spot to grab takeout during the kids' spring break and wanted to try something different from our usual go-to, Papa John's. That's when we came across Cup N Char and noticed they offered Detroit-style pizza--something neither of us had tried before. We stopped by to order in person, and right away the staff made a great impression. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant itself was very clean. There were also a few groups dining in, which gave the place a nice, welcoming vibe. Since we wanted to try a variety, the staff recommended ordering a half-and-half medium pizza, which turned out to be the perfect suggestion. We went with half Italian Mob (pepperoni, onions, banana peppers, and sausage) and half Grassy Chicken (chicken, onions, and banana peppers). Both sides were flavorful, with the Detroit-style crust really standing out--crispy on the edges and soft inside. We also ordered the chicken wings with the original hot sauce, and those were a great addition. The flavor was rich and buttery--definitely a must-have alongside the pizza. Overall, the portions were generous, and we loved being able to mix and match flavors. This is a spot we'll definitely be coming back to for takeout pizza and wings. read more

Why 4 stars? Because I enjoyed this Detroit-lite pizza. --- --- --- I am a big fan of Detroit style pizza, but Cup N Char is kind of its own thing. It's not cut into squares like traditional Detroit pizza and it's not quite as over-the-top thick. It's more like a slightly thicker than normal crust with charred edges. When I first arrived, my brother and his friend had been there for a bit and already had a couple of pizzas. I nabbed a slice of each and thought both were perfectly fine, but not really remarkable. In fairness, they had been sitting out for about 20 minutes at that point. I then ordered a supreme for me and my friend to share. At first, I had kind of a similar outlook as the slices I'd tried earlier: just okay. But as I kept eating, it really grew on me and I enjoyed it. The table shared some pizza rolls and some fries, which I snacked off of and enjoyed. Overall, I wish this place wasn't so far from my house because I'd love to try it again, but it was a good experience for our group overall. read more

I had lunch here for the first time yesterday and we had a great experience. This fast-casual pizza restaurant exudes a sense of cleanliness, openness, and modernity. Its minimalist and sleek decor creates a welcoming and stylish dining environment. You order at the counter, and when your food is ready, they bring it out to your table. The service was friendly and efficient. My partner and mom shared the Philly Steak Sub, while I ordered a medium custom pizza with black olives, spinach, and mushrooms to share with everyone. I absolutely love the unconventional square shape and unique cut of the pizza. The crust is crispy with a touch of fluffiness. To describe it best, I'd say it's a delightful fusion of a deep-dish and pan pizza. I like how they were fairly generous with the toppings. I ordered wings and cheese bread. The medium buffalo sauce for the wings was good. I also enjoyed the baked Italian. I didn't like the lemon pepper as much. The cheese bread was huge. Taste was ok. OK, I know this is just another pizza place. However, the difference between this one is hence the word cup in char they charge the top of the pizza and it gives it this extra crispy taste on top. Saw a video and had to try this place out. So good!! Wanted to try the pizza logs and recommend them. As you can see we ate them before remembering to snap a picture. They look like egg rolls but stuffed with cheese and lots of pepperonis. Then the main course of the pizza was great! Great service and very fresh food! They also have pick up as well. read more

Best wings I've had in years! The wings were big, juicy, and perfectly cooked... no feathers on the chicken like you sometimes see at other spots. The blue cheese was amazing, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. The guy taking my order did seem a bit annoyed by my questions about the heat level of the sauces, but that won't stop me from coming back. I've definitely found a new go-to spot. The ambiance was really nice too, so I'll be dining in next time. Great spot -- 10/10! read more

The best pizza place in Houston. I've been to several pizza places especially in the Aliana/richmond area but none of them could match this place's quality in food or service. Can't go to any of the big brand pizza places anymore - I've recommended and taken friends and family to here over the past two years. Big variety of foods other than pizza included such as subs, fries, wings, and more. Every now and then they do limited time specials but what they offer basically is great selection. Customer service is great, you can order through the website or in person. Decent place to dine in as well, well cleaned and maintained, not big but not too small to dine in. I tried this place a year ago, and it left such a big impression on me that it was the first place I wanted to eat at when I moved to Houston. The all meat deep dish pizza is packed with flavor. You can literally taste the toppings individually in a single bite. Each slice is covered in meat with the perfect amount of sauce and grease. Then the crust brings the whole dish together. If there's a new pizza concept in Houston, I have to check it out. So when I started getting targeted ads for Cup N Char, it was only a matter of time before I dropped by. Cup N Char brings Buffalo, NY-style pizza to Houston. I wasn't aware this was a style of pizza, but the more I read into it, the more it seemed like the pizza style my dad would make when I was growing up in the Northeast. In particular, he would cut the long sticks of pepperoni into thick slices that would fill with magic pepperoni oil. Cup N Char's pepperoni is a little different because while the pepperonis are charred very nicely and do glaze a bit, they are not vats of oil. Still, they are pretty excellent. The pepperonis, cheese, and sauce were amazing. For me, I prefer a softer, more tender crust - but this is just my personal preference and I might just not want to go on a Buffalo, NY pizza crust tour. The business itself was incredibly tidy and spotless, and staff were extremely friendly. Cup N Char is a bit of a ride from Montrose, but I would definitely look to stop by again if I'm on the west side of town. Keep up the great work! read more

When I walked into this place, I felt that I have been there before. Then I realized this place used to be Pepperoni's Pizza. I got pizza for my kids here at one time! Now it's "Cup N Char". I was greeted by the owner and made my order. It's a pretty loaded menu. Of course, I'm always going to order pepperoni pizza anyway. Pizza came out hot and fresh. I saw a Houston food blogger have this place as one of his top bites of the year. When it came across my search for pizza in the area and I saw the reviews, I knew I had to try it. The pizza was DELICIOUS!!! My husband got the grassy chicken and I got Honey Crème. The crust is delicious, nice and springy pillowy dough for a more Detroit style pizza. The toppings were generous and so good all together. It was made quickly so nice and hot. The half medium is definitely more than enough for 1 very hungry person. Located on a strip mall, there is plenty of parking available in front of the restaurant. The restaurant has clean and simple decor. The staff were friendly and patient. The menu is extensive, thus it took a while to decide. I like it that they offer pizza by the slice. That way we could try different flavors without over-indulging. I had the garlic bread, Hawaiian slice, and meat lover slice. Each pizza slice comes in two pizza triangles. That's plenty. Both the garlic bread and pizzas were very fragrant. The garlic bread was crispy and cheesy. Garlic amount was on point too. The pizza slices were super delicious. The crusts were soft and crispy too. The pizzas were cheesy, and toppings were all cooked right. There were right amount of toppings on both slices. I would definitely come back for more! Yum yum! read more

Well I had a couple of hours to kill while my kid attending a birthday party way out here in nowhereville. What to do for 2 hours? Hmmm, so I looked around for a place to eat but saw only places not kosher with my diet in the vicinity. This place had the most stars. But they serve Pizza. Definitely not on the diet. Well, I guess cheat day has arrived early. If you get a slice, note they charge extra for each ingredient. So if you want a slice of the supreme pizza just note there's going to be a lot of add ons. Like the meat pizza slice would be just under $10. So I got just pepperoni and it was only about a buck more than the "cheese only" which is just the base price listed. Not sure what buffalo pizza is supposed to tasted like but it tasted pretty darn good. The slice is good size too, so it was a really great choice for my cheat day. I ordered ahead online for a future pick up time and my order was ready when I arrived. This place has the best pizza in the area. It is a lot pricier than dominos. I ordered a large pizza and it was bigger than I thought. The pepperoni was nice and crispy. The grass chicken is my favorite. The pizza is a bit greasier due to the kind of crust they serve so definitely can't eat this too often. I also got the wings medium and lemon pepper flavor. I enjoyed both flavors. read more

Got a to go order, the food (pizza and wings) was very tasty and the service over the phone and in person were great. This is Buffalo NY style pizza and the cup n char style is unique to that area. I googled this so you don't have to: cup n char style of pizza refers to the pepperoni and how it's cooked. To be even more specific "Western New York Style with a collagen casing allowing pepperoni slices to "pop" into cups that hold natural juices and crisp" We got meat lovers and grassy chicken and while both were delicious it is very bread/crust forward. I do like my wings and pizza more saucy so I would just order it that way next time. We also picked up late so that may have factored in as well. They had a special for french fries (not pictured) which we got for free as we ordered medium pizzas. The fries were amazingly crispy yet soft on the inside potato wedge style fries. Yum!
