*****Correction made on previous review a month ago about their pastries***** It's still my preferred local shop for loose leaf teas, especially the chamomile flowers and my all time favorite, Japanese genmaicha. If you're an avid loose leaf tea drinker like myself, this is a solid small business to stock up on supplies for tea lovers and enthusiasts. They carry a great selection and consistently deliver on quality loose leaves. I would not recommend getting drinks here since they are on the super light side for flavor. The pastries are forgettable. I do enjoy their tea flight, and the price was reasonable for 2024 to 2025. I forgot to ask about 2026 pricing when I stopped by recently. They also offer cool classes and workshops, including tea education, tarot card gatherings, women's networking, and more. Check their website for updates and sign up for their monthly newsletter. Stopped in to grab some cold noods to go and would like to come back some time to try the flight of tea. They said make sure to block out at least an hour for the experience. The was a beautiful tree anchoring the space w color lit branches. It added a magical, whimsy feel to space. Staff was nice in my short encounter. Will have to update review after tea tasting. Been wanting to check this place out since spying it when I visited a neighboring shop. The ambiance as forementioned is certainly lovely, inviting and relaxing. The staff is polite and helpful enough. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was expecting a more robust and flavorful tea experience. The tea was weak and barely had a flavor. My Brit husband did not enjoy his weak black tea at all and was also charged for adding sugar and cream. Is that even a thing? I will not be rushing back to have tea on site, though I may consider purchasing loose tea there in the future and make it properly at home. Also, as a suggestion, it would be nice to have a biscuit or scone to go with our beverage, however we found only tea for purchase. read more

I decided to bring my mom here because the first experience was so amazing. While it was still fun I was a bit dismayed at the differences between the two experiences which were supposed to be the exact same... that's why I had to take a star away. Instead of each choosing 5 teas we were told to select five together. That part is actually ok because although they were more busy it just makes sense in general that a tea tasting for two be the same five teas. Previously my friend and I each got an entire small cup of tea.. this experience was different. The first gal that helped us said we would actually get more tea this way because we get the little pot. The first tea we received was So Fetch and it was awesome... of course. We each got a small cup to taste... so far pretty consistent. The next flavor we got was Tropical Sky. This is another of my favorites... but this time the owner (I think) brought the tea pot but only poured us a half little cup (maybe 2 oz) each and then left with the pot. Um what? She's super friendly and personable... Mountain Mint - this time the first gal again gave us the pot. Yea!!! I hadn't tried this one before and it was amazing!!!! I love mint tea! Strawberry Kiwi - OMG I love this one too!!! Sweet and fruity... this would be amazing as an iced tea!!! Listen im an iced tea snob so it makes sense I like these hot. Sunshine Glow I'm not fond of inconsistencies. That's why places like the Four Seasons are so popular. Consistency. I was so excited tio being my mother to experience what I did previously. This is an ok place to buy loose leaf tea, but I don't recommend ordering a drink. They severely under-dose most brews, making what should be a delicious, complex tea taste like hot water. This is especially egregious when serving bug-bitten oolong and other delicate teas. It's nothing short of a travesty, really. I'm surprised they'd bother to stock something like that only to waste it through improper brewing. I recommend Yi Fang on 82nd and Foster for a truly outstanding tea experience. Their Taiwanese high mountain teas are second to none, and you can get them iced, which is something else Cup of Tea struggles with. Also have to give a shout-out to the employee who chased me and my bf away by putting on an entire Taylor Swift playlist in the middle of the afternoon. That's not the vibe most people want when relaxing in a tea shop, lol. read more

I love doing the tea flights here! So many good options and just a lot of fun. Make sure to save enough time to experience it because not all of them come out at once and brewing takes time! You get to pick 4 teas to try and they pick one which is so fun. It took about 45 min to an hour but that's with taking your time to sip the hot tea. The horchata and the jasmine silver needle were a couple of my favorites. Renewal was pretty but I didn't love the flavor. Why have I only discovered Cup of Tea just now? So grateful to randomly be driving around Clackamas and decided to swing by out of curiosity. Best. Decision. Ever. Although the place was packed, we found a seat and dove into their encyclopedia sized catalog of teas. They have everything. Everything! Because I couldn't decide I opted for a flight- 5 small servings of tea! Four choices were my own and the fifth was the "tea of the month." I appreciated how I had plenty of time to savor each serving before being handed the next round of tea. Oh and the smells! Each tea was so aromatic it was ridiculous. The gals were friendly and incredibly knowledgeable of all the teas. I scooped up a Unicorns Bargain- a discontinued blend that is fruity, creamy and sweet. I gave this place a shot a couple times and it didn't really fulfill my craving for good tea. The ambiance in there seems a little lifeless and the employees, with the exception of the younger guy working there (who was the only one enthusiastically smiling and seeming to enjoy being there) were all pretty indifferent and short with us. I've had the owner pull down a few teas for us to smell and she cracks open the jar and does this lazy wrist flick that implies she's trying to waft the tea for us to smell but doesn't have the energy to do it properly. Bad enough the jars are all glass allowing light to bleach the tea and herbs making it stale, but I'm also not smelling anything from the attempted wafting. I got a few teas on a whim, hoping they'd be good and they were as expected not as flavorful as a properly stored tea. read more

I had never been to a tea shop before I came across Cup of Tea by accident, while looking for another business. I made a plan and invited 4 friends to come here with me for a Sunday afternoon tea tasting and check it out. The minute you open the door the air is filled with the amazing smells of deliciousness. The decor is beautiful and comfortable. There are tables and also comfy chairs. The owner and the staff here or so friendly and accommodating. They were also very helpful! The walls are lines with local art and the bookshelves contain everything from books to exotic tea pots/cups. We picked a cozy spot and decided to do the tasting of 5 different teas while we visited. We also ordered the hummus and fruit plates which were fresh and delicious. My favorite tastings today were the Rose City (roses) and the Apple Crumble (apple/caramel/spice) So delicious and I also purchased some to take home. This is a wonderful place! My friend and I came here and tried the Tea Flight. We were presented with a basket full of teas to smell. I think we smelled 50 different teas. It took us a while to choose 4 to taste. The fifth tea is chosen by the owner and the proceeds of that tea go to a charity they choose. The variety is amazing. The experience and atmosphere was relaxing and fun. The teas tasted a little weak to us so we asked for the rest of our teas to be brewed stronger and the owner obliged. She was very nice. The stronger teas were much more to our liking. This place is ah-mazing! They have a wide collection of tea and tea accessories, and the staffs are so warm and welcoming! My friend brought her puppy dog along and they told us we are able to bring her dog inside! (They even let us take a photo of her puppy dog on the counter). We ordered the pearl jasmine and the genmaicha matcha tea and they were delightful. They were on the lighter side so we steeped the tea a little longer for the extra flavor. Such a charming and gracious host- delicious teas! I really love that they put a piano in the space. I hope the tea shop does well! I don't really like all the MLM sales going on in there. Seems like each visit, there's someone selling their junk jewelry, shakes, you name it. I'm surprised the tea shop would provide a platform for this predatory "business" model. If you need more evidence, consider watching Betting on Zero, or the podcast, "The Dream." I would much rather see this locally-owned shop supporting other small, locally-owned businesses, not some pyramid scheme. It's a blemish on what is otherwise a lovely, beautiful shop. read more

Ok... So my daughter wanted to go to this tea place when my wife and I were visiting her from Southern Oregon. I had no idea this wasn't just a "tea place" but a "TEA PLACE!!!" It was a great experience and I learned a ton about tea from Susie. My plan was to drop by and try some tea but it was more of a tea education, a time to relax and, yes, we bought a great supply of different teas. Our home "tea time" is now about the type of tea we are going to have and what the correct temperature is for that particular tea. :) We'll certainly return. read more

This attractive, friendly shop is more defined by its spirit than the quality of its teas. The herbals and rooibos blends are fun, and where Cup of Tea can outshine its Portland competitors. When it comes to straight-up tea leaves, the quality, in my opinion, is noticeably inferior to Tao of Tea and Smith. Put simply, the more you learn about tea, the less you will be impressed here. While I really like the broad selection and enthusiastic employees, I have to take issue with their herbals, too. My favorite so far is the delicious Unicorn's Bargain (complete with tiny sugar unicorns!), and the Chocolate Orange makes a good dessert tea. But I tried their seasonal Candy Cane Lane today and, after trying their Earl Grey, it's my second disappointment. The problem is that they can get too outlandish and throw everything and the kitchen sink into their blends, resulting inevitably in a sum that's less than its parts. Candy Cane Lane contains: apple, peppermint, coco, lemongrass, liquorice root, eucalyptus, blackberry leaves, yogurt granules, pineapple cubes, natural flavoring (?), marshmallows, whole star anise, red currants, and pink cornflower. WOW! That sounds amazing! It smelled great. But it's way too many different things and meaninglessly expensive for the flavor ($5/oz). I have in my cupboard some lemon myrtle from Tao of Tea that cost $2/oz. It tastes almost identical, plus mint. Two or three cheap herbs would be less than half the price, and yet there is very little difference between them. You only needed peppermint and sweetness to produce the flavor of a candy cane. What bothers me most really is the price tag here. Can I taste pineapple, apple, or yogurt? No, but you can bet they increase the weight of the tea, whereas a purely herbal tea would get you many more cups for the weight. I want to believe that that owners just get overexcited mixing things up, rather than that they focus on presentation over flavor. Having just shelled out for Christmas gifts of this pretty and aromatic but disappointing tea, all I can say is if you're getting more than a couple ounces of tea, try before you buy. You never know what you will get with Cup of Tea's crazy blends. read more

I have never loved a tea shop more and I've been to plenty. The star of their show is their customer service, I was greeted by the loveliest, most bubbly and sweet employee when I entered. She was patient as I took in and explored all they had to offer. So many cute trinkets, cups, teapots and assortment of other carefully curated goodies. I tried one of the on tap kombucha today as well and it was absolutely fantastic. Cannot wait to come back and try some tea next time. This is must stop for all tea lovers. Loved this place! My Mom and I stopped in to try the tea and found a new tradition. They have a flight of tea (currently $10) where you get to pick 5 different teas to sample. They have little tins of all of their teas so you can smell them before deciding. So much fun looking through all of their teas and picking just the right ones. read more
