There's something about a food truck experience that amplifies the quality of service involved. Somewhere between the increased physical barrier of ordering through a window and there being less time to interact due to the increased hustle that running a truck requires, it seems to make a surly employee appear that much more grumpy and the really good ones shine. Shine on, Cupbop. I have not had a single morsel of food from the truck that wasn't absolutely delicious. Standouts include the chicken, BBQ pork, and the sweet potato noodles. Today's special of a kimchi-stuffed dumpling was crispy, fatty, and nicely spicy. And while I come for the crave-inducing food, it's the service that's stood out to me every time. On a daddy-daughter date, we showed up just as they were opening, a busy time for any food truck. The man at the window took the time to talk to my daughter, ask what she wanted, and walk me through the choices. Once it was clear to him that we were going to share an order, he said "if you're hungry when you finish, come back and we'll get you full." We didn't take him up on seconds, but the offer was sincere and kind. Today my wife took both the girls to pick up the yummy, and arrived right as they were opening. When my wife asked about how long they would be, the estimate was 10 minutes. That's a reasonable wait for most, but with the girls in tow, it nearly scuttled the visit. When my wife expressed concern, they were all met. Too cold for the little ones? Let us drag a heater out to keep you warm. I think I enjoy food from trucks more than my wife. They seem to be more hassle than they're worth to her. On tasting her first Cupbop, though, she started following their schedule and has offered twice in the last week to go grab it. PROs: tastes good, I enjoyed the ingredients of my dish (barbecued pork, lettuce, rice, and mung bean noodles). Also, the flexibility of the spiciness and the speed of the food prep is excellent. CONs: definitely overpriced. As someone who's worked in an Asian restaurant, I know that those ingredients are CHEAP. The dish was small enough for me to hold in one cupped hand, but cost $8. If that's in your budget, then this won't be an issue, but you can get a lot more Asian food at other joints for that price. read more

The reviews for Cupbop speak for themselves. Usually you find a few un happy customers but none for this amazing food truck. They have a great product that is hard to screw up and easy to serve. I had the combo bowl with mandu and was not disappointed. They served us kimchee and pork mandu, both were excellent. All of the employees were very nice, engaging, and create an atmosphere that is electric. The truck is clean and well designed. What more could you ask for! I've loved cupbop since day one, but I actually had a really gross experience there on Friday so I'm changing my five-star to a three-star. I'm posting this in hopes that they will address these types of issues for future customers to not be grossed out. This time I went to a tent that they had set up outside my work. The wait was really long, but that's not entirely irregular for cupbop, and the line usually goes pretty fast. This was not the case-- the line took forever. Anyway, this is the least of our worries. After what seemed like two eternities, I get to the front of the line where two dudes (let's just call them bill and Ted, I don't know their real names) are running the front. Bill is taking orders, but is also cooking food. Bill only has one glove on and is RUBBING HIS EYEBALLS, face and nose with his ungloved hand. With his gloved hand he is squeezing a dirty, wet rag out. We then switch to Ted who is the one actually taking my order. Ted is friendly enough, but he's having a hard time doing the cashier-cook balancing act because he gets the mayo based sauce all over my debit card and then hands it back to me that way. That's displeasing, but then I look back to the kitchen area and Bill is back there patting down the food in the cup with his gloved hand that he was just squeezing the dirty cleaning rag out with. This is direct 'yucky-glove-to-my-food' contact. The other hand that he was rubbing the eyeball with is still ungloved and is handling the cup and the rest of the food. I got my food and just threw it away later. I know some people might not care about this stuff, and maybe I'm being over the top, but I was honestly grossed-out enough to consider not eating there again (surprising as it was my fav for a while). I've since been back again (only option at work) and had a better experience, but I'm always kinda suspect of it now-- a tragedy. This place is amazing! fortunately for a group of my fellow classmates found that they were going to be in Sandy today and figured we'd give it a shot to live up to the hype...and did it ever. I tried the combo and had a side of mandoo as well. The combo consisted of bbq pork, bbq beef and noodles on top of rice and lettuce. The meat was delicious. Soooo tender and well seasoned...my mouth has actually started watering again as I write this review. They offer a "heat" scale of 1-10, so I went with a 3 today due to it being my first experience and overall lack of a backbone and it was good. Just a tiny hint of spice at the finish and it was still sweet. Next time I will be upping the "heat" to probably a 5, then maybe I will graduate on from there with time. The mandoo was also delicious. It was cooked the same all over...no overly cooked parts and nothing that was too soft. Just great, all around. I am really hoping that they make Sandy a regular stop. If this truck is a rockin', I suggest you come a knockin! I experienced my first Cupbop Truck lunch yesterday. What a fun way to spend my lunch hour at the Gallivan Center. This truck was by far the most popular and had a line down the street that proved it. They had fun music blasting the beats and the staff inside were singing, dancing, yelling and thoroughly enjoying their jobs! Yes I want some of what they are having. These guys are hilarious and really put on a show and make you laugh. It all made me not mind the wait so much. I indulged in the Combo Mando. It was a layered bowl of goodness. From bottom up it was rice, lettuce, noodles, and BBQ beef. It came with some delicious dumplings. Then you get to top it off with your sauce of choice, which is determined by your spice level. I chose level 6. Mostly because they told me level 10 will kill me!! The large portion was filling and I could not finish it all and the prices were reasonable. I suggest you come early and be prepared to wait a bit. I think I waited about 30 minutes in line for food. They seem to be very efficient and once you order your food is ready fast. I got to eat my lunch on the steps in the sun. It was very enjoyable overall. I would like to return and try some of the different sauces. read more

Typically when I write a review on Yelp I usually review the establishments restrooms. The hard thing about reviewing a food trucks restrooms is that they don't have any to use. (Idea for food trucks, put a trailer on your back that has a portable toilet). With this place I would like to write an actual review of the place and its food. First and most important the staff at this food truck is friendly, warm, and welcoming. They make you laugh while you are in line. Laughing is a good thing in these freezing temperatures. Second, the food is amazing. The infusion of spice in this Korean BBQ is amazing. They spice to a level and it is perfect. If you want spicy you can go hot if you want to just enjoy the meat, rice and noodles you can do that. This place should be enjoyed by all. read more

However my order today had basically no sauce on it so it was pretty bland and just blahh also I asked for a spicy level of a 5 and my food had no spice or heat to it at all. Don't know if today was just a unique situation but I might just skip this place and go somewhere else next time if they are going to be so skimpy with their sauce. Overall not impressed at all with the food today. Hopefully today was just a one time deal and won't keep happening. Also the rice is gross, it just disentegrates in your mouth and had the consistency and texture of mashed potatoes. I'm not coming back to this place. After reading all of the yelp reviews, we decided to head over there for lunch today. People were not kidding about the longest line being at Cupbop, I didn't see anyone at the other trucks at all. The line moved fast and it was entertaining to hear the guys in the truck shouting out the order and being very engaging. I am a vegetarian so I tried the noodlebop with a #6 spicy level. The noodles, rice and sauce were very tasty and so filling that I couldn't even finish it! I don't know if this will be a place that I visit frequently as it is out of the way but it was good. I also think part of the appeal of this place is the meat and since I can't enjoy that, I'm probably not getting the same impact. It is nice that they offer a vegetarian option however. I think the food makes this place but the charismatic guys in the truck with such a high energy level add to what makes this truck such a winner! read more

It's Gallivan Center Food Truck Thursday. There were three food trucks parked on the curb. The longest line, by far, was at Cupbop's truck. I had the combo with mandoo (dumplings). The dumplings are filled with kim chee and covered with an amazing sweet hot sauce. Absolutely delicious. The combo is pork and chicken over a layer of rice noodles over a layer of lettuce over a layer of rice, then covered with spicy sauces that suit your pain tolerance. I must say that my experience was second to none, and I was entertaining clients at the Jazz game, which made it all the better. The order specialist who took my Kko-Kko Bop (chicken) order was very friendly and eased my nerves when she repeated my order to the kitchen staff by subtly calling "coo-coo"! Exotic! Before moving on to the spice application specialist, the order specialist asked if my credit card was a company card and upon hearing my reply in the affirmative, she let me know "I need to get one of those!" (Hint to Management, get that girl on the corporate credit card plan ASAP, she's a keeper). Once I moved to the spice application specialist, the 10 levels of spiciness were explained to me. Despite the ribbing of my guests, I explained that I was not too sure about the spice scale (I easily break-out into hot sweats if the heat is much higher than black pepper - talk about embarrassing in front of a client, no thanks), and I opted for a 2 for my first Bop. Bless his heart, I wish I had gotten this young man's name, but he offered to include some mild cocaine on my Coo-Coo (I mean Kko-Kko) Bop! Score!! So much love for this food truck! Little bowls jam packed with food that is quite flavorful! I typically get the chicken bowl, and it has a mix of rice and pho-style noodles and this sweet sauce that just makes the taste pop in your mouth! How can you not be a fan? For a simple menu consisting of about 4-5 options, there are so many different ways to create your bop! Since they come to my work parking lot every other Monday, I have gotten pretty adventurous (insert pat on the back here) and have tried everything on the menu. And in different variations. I have now found exactly what I like and don't like. 1. The Mandu - 'tis alright, but I like them more crunchy and hotter. I think this may be my fault though because I go right when they open (since I work at the crack of dawn 11 is a great lunch time). Thanks for throwing me one for free every now and then! 2. The noodles - are good. But only with the noodles. No mixing the rice and noodles for me. Just a texture thing I have decided. 3. Skip the spicy mayo. What is the fad with this stuff? I just want the chili's and spice. Not the calories from mayo - plus I don't like the taste of greasy mayo soaking up into my bop mmmk. 4. Chicken. Just stick to it and don't ask questions. 5. I LOVE the staff. 6. HUGE portions for a relatively cheaper meal. 7. If you can't eat it all, eat all of the lettuce the first time around. I hate watching someone reheat this up and consuming soggy lettuce. Lettuce is meant to be fresh and crispy, come onnnnn now friends! I got a combo bowl with beef bulgogi and some kimchi flavored pork with rice, noodles, lettuce, a sweet soy based sauce, spicy mayo, and a red chili sauce (they have a heat scale of 1-10 and I went with 7. Probably a good choice. Quite spicy, but not overbearing.). It was pretty good. I would definitely go back, but having been to some of the local Korean restaurants that I love like Spicy Corea, it's hard to justify paying 8.50 for this unless I was wanting something quick.
