We ate dinner on the patio Friday night and are now covered in bug bites. My 4 year old literally looks like he has the chicken pox with how covered his legs are. I counted over 20 bites on 1 leg. We were there for barely an hour, and could literally see bugs swarming around us. Excellent service and food! We loved everything about our experience here from the drink options, the appetizers, charcuterie, entrees, and desserts. There was five of us and we all ordered takes on food items we have all eaten before but the twists and quality were outstanding. The verdict from all five of us was "best cedar plank salmon!" "best burger (made with 3 types of meat no-less)!" "best pork chop (so amazingly tender and juicy)!" "best rotisserie chicken!" and my fav "best meatloaf!" Honestly, we were all extremely satisfied! We all had rated the Stanford Grill one of our favorite places and their Bread Pudding the highlight but the donut pudding here was just outstanding. Very disappointing. My husband and I went for lunch today and were overall unhappy with our meal. First we had the tuna tartar & avocados, which was very nice (the only thing we fully liked), albeit on the pricey side for $16 (the same dish at Seasons 52 is only $14 and is MUCH better). Then we had the charcuterie board which we chose 4 items for $22. The "brasceola"was delicious and the duck prosciutto was ok, not wonderful, a bit bland and greasy. The cheese portions, however, were embarrassingly small. We received ONE thin slice of Port Salute cheese, on a $22 appetizer !!! Also, to add insult to injury, our strawberry was bad (ugh). Then we ordered our lunch entrees and after ordering the BBQ pork sandwich were told they were out of it and the and pork tacos (another disappointment). My husband ended up with the Cured Burger with housemade chips and I had the Roasted Beet Salad. Our entrees arrived and again, there were issues and more dissatisfaction. My husband's burger was dripping in grease and the housemade chips were NOT made in house (we know the difference). My roasted beet salad had pickled beets, not roasted. I told the waitress and sent it back (I had had enough). The manager came and asked us what happened and I told him and he insisted the beets were roasted (they DEFINITELY were not, I eat beets a lot - if you want delicious roasted beets, try Urban Plate by the mall, theirs are to DIE for). Then the manager came back out a 2nd time and proceeded to explain to me, very condescendingly, the process of how the chef made the beets, starting with that they peeled the beets and sliced them (seriously??!!). I stopped him and said, "I'm sorry but those beets were not roasted, not even before they pickled them". He continued to argue with me, telling me that he just wanted to finish explaining and then I said, "This was not the only problem with the meal." His response was in this very fake-nice voice with that rude, smarmy undertone, "What else was wrong?" I told him his attitude was not appreciated and he started to argue with me again and I said, "That's enough. I'm done and we will not be returning." and he walked away without even so much as an apology. To top all of this off, believe it or not but the water we were served tasted bad. It was normal iced still water. How can you screw up WATER???!!!! The meal total (with my salad taken off) was $60. We are not cheapskates, we LOVE to eat out and to eat at GOOD, expensive and inexpensive restaurants. We're not snobby but if you are going to charge these prices and your food is a.) not available b.) skimpy portions c.) unappetizing d.) not as described on the menu, then you can be sure you're getting a bad review from us and we will be telling everyone we know NOT to go there. Pretty amazing experience! Brussels sprouts with chili sauce and peanuts are a must. Mango dressing on the avocado salad I need the recipe for! Never had a hot brown as exquisite as this, served open faced with crispy chicken skin to add an element I've never had before! Coconut cake had to be 10 inches high, moist and delicious! Sour beer flight was amazing. Draft old fashioned you can't get anywhere else in Columbia! Mind blown! This place got it right! A must to go to! read more

The brunch here is amazing. They have a tapas style brunch so that you can taste a little savory and have some sweet. My server Michael Almine was also great. My husband and I came on Saturday night and our first thought walking in was - it's like Cheesecake Factory! They had planned for a lot of people in here (rows of small tables like at Cheesecake), and for a good reason - every table was full! We tried the french onion dip with homemade chips (so good, although honestly I'm fine with the Lipton soup mix version and it won't set you back $11), fried chicken livers, fried green tomatoes and bone marrow. My favorite was the salty bone marrow served with toast that reminded me of Texas toast - so garlicky and buttery! They have a great drink menu, my husband enjoyed his old fashioned and I had a Dogfish Head IPA. For dessert we shared the cookie sandwich, and while the coconut ice cream was tasty, the cookie was dry and tasted like it came out of a Chips Ahoy package. It's pretty unusual when the food is very good.....the big beef sandwich...two of us thought it was fine, the pork chop ..... very tender even though part of it had to go back for more cook time ( and then retuned as a new whole chop with complimentary cooked carrots and a personal apology by the staff ), and a good chicken Cobb salad, then a particularly good waitress, and a tastefully decorated restaurant.....BUT, the noise level in the Cured dining room is beyond loud. When a room is half full when we were seated, and you can hardly hold a conversation, something should be done to lower the sound level. So I wanted to make sure I tried this place a couple times before I posted a review because the first visit had snags left and right but the manager showed a lot of hospitality and removed the items that had issues and provided us with a voucher for another visit. While I'm a MAJOR support of all good things coming to hoco and Columbia, I was disappointed with some of the issues that we've encountered. Let's start with the good - very relaxed atmosphere, ample parking and great drinks! Nice craft cocktails that can please all palates. The roasted bone marrow was delish! Though for the price, I'd hope there was more marrow. So either "meatier" bones or price adjusted IMO. Servers are great and friendly. Onto the bad - Our fries had a hair in it. OK, no big deal - sent it back. They took it off and apologized. Then our mussels had a plastic tag in it. Mussels come in a net bag and sometimes have a plastic tag with whatever attached to it (same ones as clothes tags). Well my girlfriend pulled one of those out while eating a mussel. The mussels were tasty as hell but that wasn't great. While the restaurant was super apologetic and we laughed off the issues as it being a new restaurant, it did put a damper on our initial visit. I decided to try them again bc I thought they must've had an off day in the kitchen that day but when I came back for a second visit (in 18th & 21st this time), it seemed like the kitchen was still having an off day. Like I said, I loved the flavors of the mussels so hoped to have a better experience with them but this time was even worse. They tasted bad.... This time I was with another girlfriend of mine and had been raving about how great it was that Columbia had another restaurant/bar option so I tried to ignore the fact that the first one or two didn't taste fresh. But when I could tell she also wasnt feeling it, we just had to tell our server. He apologized yet again and sent it back. We were told by the kitchen, they were thankful we informed them that the mussels weren't fresh so they were no longer going to serve them that evening, but geez I just wanna have that damn mussel dish and be able to enjoy it!!! The chef did personally come out and apologize and offer to remove items from our bill and comp us free desserts, but I would have no problem paying full price for a good all around meal. Think I'll give them some more time to get everything in order. Maybe I'll try them again in the future. read more

If I could get a half a star, I would. We were looking forward to having dinner here as my in-laws talked it up! This was my husband's welcome home dinner from his deployment. Once we were seated (we had reservations) we were not greeted by waitstaff. We waiting a whole 20 minutes not being asked if we wanted water, appetizers, nothing. The waiter just kept walking by our table as if we didn't exist. We ended up leaving after 20 minutes of not being greeted or served. If I had to sum up this place I'd say "bougie and boozy but bitty brunch and burger bistro." Note: "bougie" meaning "expensive and trying to be fancy." You know how you can get sometimes... . Also note: if you drive and park, it's much easier to enter the restaurant than walking up. I have zero understanding of how to enter from Little Patuxent and Broken Land (the front). I saw people walking around to the back to enter. I purposely waited a few weeks to try this place because I wanted all he kinks ironed out so I could see it at max potential. The service is pretty good. The atmosphere is cool. The cocktail I tried was OK. There were some problems with the food, moreso with he standard menu than the brunch. The good: Brunch was my second visit here, but the brunch performance was close to ideal. This is small plates/tapas brunch. The prices are fair, and my bill was about just under 30 dollars with cranberry juice. I had the shirt rib hash, the asparagus quiche, and the donut of the day (nutella). So, the donuts are actually holes, and you get 5. They were quite good, but I wish the nutella was at least offered on the side as a dipping sauce. As served it was messier than necessary. The quiche was my second favorite item, even though it wasn't what I was expecting. The creamy goat cheese really complemented the quiche well. I could have eaten two of those, and it came with a lightly dressed arugula salad. I was a bit disappointed with the hash because it looked less like a hash and more like ingredients for hash layered in a ramekin. The potatoes and meat were tender, but it needed the tiniest bit of salt. Ironically the opposite problem from my first visit. My cranberry juice tasted watered down, and I should have asked for it without ice. I could see this as a cool spot for brunch. I overheard a manager talking to some regulars, and he said "eggs benedict is actually egg benedict," and everything is meant to be shared and that's the best way to describe the brunch. Bring a friend or friends and split the bill. If you're trying to get full as a tick for cheap, this is not the place. Did not try any breakfast cocktails because of my first experience... The bad: on my first visit (yesterday) I wanted to be adventurous. Mistake. I ordered the soup of the day (broccoli), the mushroom stroganoff, and I also had a cocktail: Two Tiny Flowers. The cocktail was tiny but strong. It goes down easy but the flowers definitely give it a strong aftertaste. What I imagine your grandmother's perfume tastes like. I'm not a fan, because it was really comparable to a double shot of vodka. The soup had a delicious flavor, but it was more like purée than soup. Wish they had thinned it out more to be a true soup. Otherwise this was almost there. The ugly: ok, I'm not a chef but I know what stroganoff should be. And the first alarm bell was the server bringing me a spoon specifically for the stroganoff. Good stroganoff takes time, because you have to reduce the sauce, which is usually beef based. The sauce should bring the noodles and meat (or in this case, mushrooms) together. This tasted pretty good if you ignore how they seriously over salted the sauce. It was still edible but just too salty. The pappardelle was cooked nice and al denté, really enjoyed that part. The mushrooms were good... But there was basically raw spinach in it. Almost thrown on top, like a garnish or afterthought. This was basically mushroom stroganoff soup or stew. Disappointing. Oh ... I asked for grapefruit juice and they didn't have any, which is how I ended up with watery cranberry. I will never understand a place serving brunch and claiming great cocktails without a drop of grapefruit juice in house. Like that hurts my brunch-loving soul. I am glad I had the courage to give this place a second chance with brunch. Otherwise this review would be very different. I think there is a lot of potential here, and I suspect if you stuck to burgers, beer, and anything else that takes light preparation (charcuterie, salads, fries, etc.) you will be fine. Service was good, zero complaints on that front. I'd return if a friend really wanted to go or if someone just wanted to check it out. But I can only see myself returning for bougie brunch occasionally. Not in a huge rush to return though. The crowd is mostly 40+ couples or 40+ with families. read more

Now let's get to the drinks first old fashioned was really good! The only reason they're getting 4 instead of 5 is one there is not a 4.5 stars button! Two is cause as good as the food is when I hear Nashville hot chicken I expect especially as a Chef myself I expect it to taste spicy and like it's origin. The salmon which my girlfriend had was really good loved the greens, hash maple syrup sauce (some got on my shirt and I smelt like a pack of waffles dipped in syrup ! ) but was still good the salmon was cooked perfect! I went there on a Thursday night and I must say that I truly enjoyed the atmosphere, my bar tender (I sat at the bar and the bar tender, although I forgot his name, is a man with a long ponytail. He's great!) the service but the food I ordered was underwhelming. My drink of choice was an old fashioned and I must say that I enjoyed it with my soul egg rolls. The egg rolls were mighty tasty with the queso and bbq dip. I wish the portions were larger. Now onto my entrees: I ordered a classic burger with fries and a Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I would like to say that the city of Nashville would be insulted! The sandwich doesn't have any heat at all and does NOT taste similar to its namesake. The sweet potato fries are scrumptious and I recommend them. The burger was just ok, nothing exciting. This place is weirdly florescent. Excited to try something new in Columbia, we were expecting a cozy intimate dinner spot. Instead, we walked in to a surprisingly bright room with glowing florescent white ceiling panels that made the place feel a little like a cafeteria. My sister described it as feeling like we were in a lab. There was a back room where the lighting looked less office-cubicle-like and the friendly staff accommodated us by moving us there. Still bright in there, a little like a Denny's, but much better. Now on to the important part, the food. We tried the jackfruit tacos which were interesting, a little pickeledy and spicy. I liked them ok. We also had the falafel burger and paprika fries. These were tasty as well but not mind-blowing. One of my guilty pleasures is fries dipped in aioli but the garlic aioli was pretty bland and flavorless kind of just oily tasting? My brother-in-law got the MD crab soup and said "it was flavorless, though a decent amount of crab. Could have used any seasoning - it had none." He had the cured burger as well and described it as 'just allright' but on the positive side, said it was cooked to the correct temp. We peeked into the speakeasy side and were suprised to see they went all-in on the flourescent lighting and even used it in there - this section I especially expected to be emulating a dark and gritty underground speakeasy! I'm still happy for new places in Columbia that aren't super chainy and I will come back to try some of the several vegetarian items (such as the lentil curry and the mushroom stroganoff) which I am thrilled they offer. Also, parking in the parking garage was free even though jazz fest was happening over at Merriweather so that was a plus. If I could give half-stars I'd give this 3.5 since there was really nothing bad about the experience other than the lighting - service was good, food came out quickly, etc . I throughly enjoyed my visit to Cured on its opening night. The restaurant's design is modern, open and bright. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable. The food inventive and interesting, yet still approachable. I had the Cured Burger and my daughter had the Bistro steak. Both were tasty and cooked exactly as requested. Also we had a side order of the puréed potatoes that were perfect! You'd expect some glitches on opening night, but I can say, I did not see any (and there was a sizable crowd). The staff also gave tours of the adjacent restaurant 18th & 21st which will be opening soon. The restaurant is in a great centralized location in downtown Columbia and is a much needed addition to the Columbia food scene. I look forward to returning. read more

Had brunch here this morning for Father's Day, and was very impressed! Our server was great and the service was extremely fast - had our food out about 15 min after ordering. Appreciated since we had 2 young kids with us, lol. All our dishes were great and they have a nice beer selection for any craft beer fans out there. We will be back!! read more

I came here Thursday and Daniel (I believe is his name?) my bartender was unbelievably cocky, I've never met anyone who is more proud of himself than himself. Cured has without a doubt become one of our favorite places to eat. When it first opened, the menu was different and the food wasn't appealing. It has since changed for the better, which is wonderful. I've set a goal of tasting everything on the menu, and here is what I have had so far. Burgers - yum. Fries. Yum. The burgers are perfectly seasoned and the fries are amazing. The buns are the perfect accompaniment. Highly recommend having an egg on top. Muscles - one of the best broths I've had in a long time. Nice wine and herb flavor without being overdone or mute. Crab cakes - very good. Not the best in Maryland. But certainly one of the best available in Columbia (better than Clyde's) and 100x better than anything outside the state. Mushroom soup- amazing. Creamy but not too creamy. Maryland crab soup - good but a little too salty for my taste. Sometimes it is lacking crab. Salmon - very good. Excellent over caesar salad. Salads - both the caesar and the beet salad are also good. Not overly dressed and not underdressed. Very fresh. Nature burger - I have not had it, but my daughter had it once and she said that it was excellent. Many times, the veggie burgers can be dry and this was not even close. She loved it. Roasted Turkey sandwich - again, I have not had it, but my daughter had it once, and it was unimpressive. Cold turkey on a croissant, nothing special. Mushroom cavatelli - I had requested that it be made with less cream, and it was, excellent flavor and not overwhelmed with sauce. Highly recommend. Sweet potato fries - very good, but I think the regular fries are so good, the sweet potato simply can't hold a candle to them. Perhaps if they were a little more crispy like the regular fries? Hard to say. Sausage flatbread - great for sharing, but just doesn't hold a candle to the other appetizers. Drinks- I'm not a sweet drink person but two tiny flowers is one of my favorite drinks. Vodka, orange bitters, so good. Just a hint of sweet, my daughter told me that it tastes like cough medicine, maybe. Beers- huge selection. I honestly don't know which ones I tried, but it's fun to try different ones. Desserts - Donut bread pudding - bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts. When I tried this, it was a little dry and stale tasting to me. Could have been an off night. Hard to say. Scoop and paddle ice cream - very good. I've tried the salted caramel and something like a bourbon caramel, excellent. But you can also just go there and get it directly. Service - the service has been getting better and the wait staff is clearly on their game lately. There is something off with the hostess staff at times. I don't think they look at the reservations, so when you reserve a low top instead of a high top, they try to seat you in high top anyway. I once had a hostess tell me that if I wanted a low top I needed to request it, when I told her I did, she was a little flummoxed. But it doesn't matter. I bumped into this place while walking around Columbia to kill some time before a wedding I was attending. The area makes for some very enjoyable walking, the design worked! Trees and sidewalks and schools and then an ad for Merriweather Post Pavilion! I decided to check it out, and stumbled into this restaurant instead. The bar staff went absolutely above and beyond to answer questions, make recommendations and the like. I'll bet their food is delicious, but I'm sorry I didn't have the time to order food, just a couple drinks. The Journeyman Distillery "Featherbone" Bourbon Whiskey caught my eye up there on the top shelf, so Ben served me one on a cube of ice. A real treat! We discussed it with their resident expert, and it turns out it's a little known variety, so hopefully I've piqued their interest. A jazz journeyman (there's a jazz venue in the restaurant as well) is what I imagined, traveling the country with silk gloves on, ever the diplomat, ever candid and warm, elevating every situation, anonymously raising the shelf for all involved. My husband and I tried Cured for a Friday date night. The service was good, the atmosphere is fun. I recommend going after 7pm if you want a quieter meal - the (Friday) Happy Hour was noisy. Do yourself a favor and get the FOREST MUSHROOM soup. It's SO GOOD. The MUSHROOM CAVATELLI is to die for. I don't think I put my fork down once, I couldn't stop eating it! I can't wait to go again.
