We are so grateful to have found Antonio and that he had time to see my daughter. I have completely straight hair but my daughter has beautiful curls and ringlets! I needed help understanding how to care to her hair so as she gets older, she also knows how to care for it properly herself! She was overdue for a haircut and had damage from swimming and using the wrong products/hair accessories. I learned so much! Millie his assistant was also so nice and helpful. He had me film all the steps from washing to drying and styling. I took notes on how to treat some of the existing damage and also how to prevent it. Antonio is amazing I moved from NY and was a Deva Salon girl. I have been going to Deva Salon since 2012. Once I moved to LA- I could not find a curly girl salon and/or natural with someone with good reviews that was nearby or did the deva cut. I almost went to Ouidad but I liked the way Deva did my hair and the products and didn't want anything to change. I was going to NY to have my hair done because I didn't want my hair ruined. Amazing haircut for my curly hair - first one my husband has liked in years! I usually leave a haircut feeling the stylist took too much length off, and it takes me several days to get used to it. I loved this cut right away. It was also a very efficient and comfortable appointment. Excellent product recommendations. I asked to buy all of them, as my hair was soft and tangle free. I wanted to love this place but I'm so so soooo disappointed. I've been wanting to get an expensive dry cut for curly hair for some time. I've been following curly girl method a for over 15 years now. I finally figured I'd splurge on a cut for $125 and found this place with 5 out of 5 stars. My hair was legit butchered. I asked for layers, I got them in some places but it's all uneven. Nothing to frame my face. In fact some of the hair by my face is stringy at the ends and needed to be cut. I was provided with good curly hair tips but I've been doing this for years, I have my routine. However, I was still basically bullied into buying at least $100 worth of products that I could have done without. I know this is my fault, I should have said no but I felt so awkward in this fancy Westwood salon. I was basically given all the products in a bag, never once was I asked if I wanted them, it was "here's your bag," and then 10 mins later realized it was all added into my bill. I was too ashamed to say I didn't want it at that point so that's on me but I don't like being pushed into things like that so it left a bad taste in my mouth. Also, I think the $125 hair cut was more like $185 plus tip. So whatever the prices are online are out of date. The products are fine but they aren't doing anything my routine wasn't already doing. Overall, this place might be good if you're starting out on your curly hair journey. But if you need great curly hair advice I highly recommend checking out the curly hair group on Reddit instead: reddit.com/r/curlyhair. It'll save you $300. After this, I'm legit going back to cheap hairs cuts with layers. Honestly, best hair cut of my life was a wet cut with MULTIPLE layers (someone counted and it was like 7 layers in my curls) and it cost $18. read more

Antonio is the best there is. I started at Deva Chan in NYC, then found Antonio through their website. I've been seeing him for about three years now and he is AMAZING. While some might say it's just hair, it's not. You look at it everyday. It's the first thing people see. Having curly hair can be a pain, but with the right cut, it's beautiful. It also takes no time to do in the morning. Antonio and his assistants will show you exactly how to use products and clip so you can look curly girl brilliant at home. Be warned, Antonio's haircuts are not for those on a budget. But if you can spend money on your hair, you want to spend it here. Oh, and plan to be there about two hours. Antonio mainly lives in New York, but is in LA every 4-6 weeks on a Sunday and Monday. It's a bummer when your hair suddenly hits that "too long" stage and he won't be back from weeks. He now cuts my mom's hair, too, and does just as terrific a job, even though her curls and style are completely different from mine. He's great. read more

I go to the hairstylist to help me feel and look great. Antonio does this expertly! I came in with the dullest color and the frizziest hair. It was in bad condition, the haircut wasn't flattering and I needed an overall update. He analyzed my hair type, asked me about my thoughts on color and maintenance, and he asked me what my lifestyle is like. Well he solved the color quickly and gave a blonde job like no other. People think it's natural - and I am keeping it that way! He gave me a haircut that requires very little maintenance and is good for both the curly days and the straight days. I love Antonio! Back in January I was desperate to cut my hair! At that point my hair was to my mid back. And yes it was super long but it was all heat damaged. I loved my hair that length but I was tired of straightening my hair. I wanted to wear my hair freely and I wanted my curls back. For a long time I had considered cutting my hair but coming from a Dominican heritage you are always expected to wear your hair straight and long. It had been approximately 3 months since the last time I straighten my hair so you can imagine the frustration. My hair was ALWAYS frizzy. My hair was a complete mess! The top part of my hair would curl, the mid section was bony straight and the bottom was curly. One night my sister found a salon that was less than a mile from my house that claimed to be experts in cutting/styling curly hair. I read each hairstylist bio and the minute I read Antonio's I new he was the one! I've never met someone who is so passionate about what he does. I was sooooo nervous the first day I went to meet Antonio but he made me feel so comfortable! My appointment went super well! He educated me on the kind of curls I had, educated me on using the right products in this case we talked about Deva curl (love it!!!), and most importantly he was honest. He told me that I would not get rid of my heat damager curls overnight. That it would be a process. I really appreciated his honesty. The first day I went to see Antonio I wanted to cut my hair very short but he was honest and told me that I wasn't going to get rid of all the heat damage so I cut my hair to my shoulders. The second time I was ready for the big cut so Antonio cut my hair to about chin line. This was so scary! But I loved my hair!! That was almost 5 months ago. Antonio has been a blessing to my hair and confidence in styling and plus he is so kind and has a great spirit. Not to mention he overlooked my clumsy incident with mirror hehe. I have countless ladies asking me what product am I putting in my hair or that my hair looks beautiful. I first off start off with telling them that they need to see you first to bring their hair back to life before any of my curly ladies with Type 4a,b, and c's and Type 3b or c move forward with any product. From the techniques and product usage you have taught me I have finally learned to manage what I had accepted as what is a part of being a tried and true natural which isn't the case. I have been to countless curly hair specialists and have been to many salons that work with curly hair, however, Antonio at Shan hair has been by far the best. Not only a curly hair specialist but truly an expert in many ways. I have very curly frizzy hair that tends to take a lot of time to get styled and frizz free. Even with other specialists cutting my hair, it still appeared to have frizzy ends and a triangular shape.
