We arrived into Salida for one night and we were looking for a place to eat. We saw this place and decided to give it a shot. It's a very laid back atmosphere. Open seating and since we came later in the night we had a choice of tables. I ordered the fried chicken platter which is a breast of chicken with panko breading on mashed potato's with gravy on top. I got it with Nashville hot sauce. I thought it was average. The flavor was bland if not for the hot sauce which they charge an extra dollar for. Again, cheesy business practice. My wife got a salad and she said it was average too. Service was too pushy in the beginning and then too relaxed during the meal. You can't find a server if you need something. I ordered a Diet Coke and for me that's like a wine so if the carbonation to sweetness ratio is off it can ruin my whole dining experience, which happened. And the server wasn't in a hurry to tell me the soda dispenser wasn't working correctly.i had to ask her. Another big issue for me is they want everyone to pay with cash or they rack on 3.5% to the bill if you use a debit/credit card which I think sucks. We live in a digital world and you gouge people for using a card or you could "go take money out of their atm" at a flat rate fee. I think this type of business practice is shady and I will never go here again because of it.

Now they know how to cook a steak! It was very juicy and tasteful, better than the fine dinning places than I been to to be honest. Definitely coming again!

Food was excellent. We also had spinach artichoke dip, served with flatbread which was very good. Service was prompt and friendly, Thursday night and the place was packed! Full bar menu with many specialty drinks. Family friendly in an upbeat hipster atmosphere. We will return when in the area.

WOW. I wanted comfort food and my friend brought me here. He hit the nail on the head- they literally have a comfort food section on the menu! Like green chili?! Well I love NM green chili better usually BUT this green chili is OUT OF THE PARK!!!! The server was super kind, attentive and respectful! Not to mention accommodating to some food changes. The French onion soup is the best I have had in a very long time! Maybe even better than that French bakery La Baguette in the springs! As soon as you walk in you just want to spin around and take everything in! There's so much cool stuff to look at! Great ambiance! The sun hits just right in the windows at lunch time, and they have an epic street patio for those warmer days too! Presentation is everything and this place does an outstanding job at staging both the food and the establishment. New favorite restaurant in town! I will be back quite often while I work my way through the entire menu!

Stellar Salida restaurant with great food, drinks and servers. The wedge salad was out of this world with warm huge amounts of real bacon. The poutine was sensational with great tasting fries and lots of yummy toppings. The full order of the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy was spot on. Had a great double IPA and spicy bloody Mary. Everything was just amazing. Loved sitting outside and enjoying the summer night air. A Salida fave for sure.

We found this little gem. Great patio the food was delicious and our server was super helpful.

Awesome food and great people. Low key atmosphere, good bourbon & beer selection, and upscale food at great prices. Wonderful experience.

Amazing fresh food. The bangers and mash were great, but the beef stroganoff was to die for!

Thirty minutes later, we came back and table still wasn't ready so we sat in their heated tent on the side yard and drank some Manhattans while we waited. Our table was worth the wait - got a great booth table near the front of the restaurant! The four of us split the mushroom risotto, eggplant caponata, grilled cabbage, lamb kabobs and half roasted chicken. I think we all agreed the grilled cabbage was our favorite dish with the delicious romesco sauce! My husband and I also really enjoyed the half roasted chicken - the others thought it was slightly salty, but the cook was perfect and had a nice and crispy skin. The eggplant was also very tasty and fresh and came with some grilled bread - our server suggested extra bread and it was a little annoying to be charged $2 for extra bread especially since he recommended it for a party of four. Besides that, our server was super attentive and took great care of us. Really enjoyed this elevated meal in Salida!

Nestled among the peaks of the Sawatch Range, where tumbleweeds might theoretically roll if they weren't caught in the spokes of a passing bicycle, sits an establishment of peculiar perfection: The Biker & The Baker. My compass has unerringly pointed to their door every single time I visit Salida over the past five years. It is a tradition forged in sugar and chain grease, where the rugged American West meets the precision of French pastry. Pairing high-desert riding with artisanal baking seems like a recipe for a pile-up, but the execution here is a sweet ride. You will find aerodynamic cyclists sitting elbow-to-elbow with flannel-draped modern prospectors, united by a singular quest for butter. The Biker handles the gears, the Baker handles the tiers. They aren't just coasting on charm; they are pedaling toward culinary triumph, baking up a storm that rivals the monsoons over the Arkansas River. The confections are miniature monuments to indulgence. I have routinely panned for gold in this valley, but the true motherlode is their lemon tart--a symmetrical marvel of citrus striking like a high-noon sun. Their charcuterie boards are arranged with the geometric exactitude of a surveyor mapping a railroad. Whether you are gearing up to summit Mount Shavano or recovering from a grueling promenade, this sanctuary provides the requisite fuel. It is the exceedingly charming destination itself.
