I have a difficult time finding something to eat here as it's not gluten free friendly and they haven't changed their menu in a very long time. My husband and I went here for dinner and I chose not to order anything because I was nauseous from being in the sun all day. My husband had his meal, which he said was very good, and a waitress came over as we were signing the check to leave. She asked me if I wasn't feeling well, which I said yes, and she stated "Oh, well we can't have you in here". I motioned to the check next to us and explained that not only are we literally leaving already, but my "illness" was simply nausea from the sun and was not contagious in any way. She simply said "sorry" and walked away. Service in general was very rushed and impersonal, but my husband said the food was at least good. read more

The person next to us got the lobster queso...just by the looks of it the artichoke is way better. They roasted a hog that day and it was really good. So yummy! We came down to Salida for the weekend to ski and always like to try new places. My husband had the stroganoff and I had the house sirloin. The sauce on the noodles was fantastic and the cut of cow was melt in your mouth tasty. The only reason I gave them a 4/5 was that the berries on the shortcake tasted and looked like they were frozen from the grocery but the cake was worth it. read more

I can't give Currents any more than three stars on this visit since there wasn't anything mind blowing about the place, service, or the food. When we arrived the place was full and we were told it would be about a 30-40 minute wait. Fine by us, as there aren't that many choices in Salida. We popped in next door at a small bar for a drink while we waited. About 40 minutes later we were seated and started looking over the menu. It wasn't large, but had a nice variety of items. A few of us started with the Prince Edward Mussels which were pretty good and had a rich garlic and butter sauce. For the main course I ordered the special of the day, a 10 oz. ribeye with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. I upped the ante by making it a "surf and turf" with the addition of a couple large shrimp on the side. It really wasn't anything to scream about. My ribeye was cooked medium, just how I asked, but it just didn't have the full flavor I was looking for. I'm not sure how they managed to cook the thing without any grill marks, but they did and I missed them. The shrimp were "meh," and kind of flavorless. The potatoes were dry and everything needed a bit more salt. My wife ordered a smoked salmon salad with goat cheese and said she enjoyed it. Everyone else in the group seemed to enjoy their meals as well. I did hear a comment or two about seasoning, though. The service was friendly and efficient. The space is quite large with a spacious bar and dining area, as well as an open kitchen in the back. I like open kitchens in restaurants because I enjoy watching the kitchen staff doing their thing. It's definitely a local's spot and a good place to bring the family. It's not a bad choice if you're in Salida, and I may return to sample something else off the menu sometime. read more

When the staff is having a good time, we're having a good time. Bianca was just loving life and we were loving it with her. A chill atmosphere and extra floor space opened up Current's and made it unique from many of the other (wonderful but tight) restaurants. With a full menu and a lot of local (and out of state) craft beers plus an entire wall selection of local spirits. We ended up having beer and some local whiskey. For food we chose a great fried chicken (more like schnitzel as its a boneless breast) and spectacular mashed potatoes. The rest of the menu had several amazing choices as well. We ended up the black berry shortcake, which my partner adored, and I thought was a bit dense... eater's preference! I would definitely return... maybe a little hungrier. read more

A go to restaurant for our monthly excursions to Salida. The food is excellent, the service and staff are phenomenal. They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait during the rush hours, but it is worth the wait. Recommend: lobster queso, clam linguine and the stroganoff. We have been eating here for years and most of the staff is still the same - that says something about how the owners treat them to make them want to stay. If you are a bourbon or whiskey drinker, George's recommendations are always spot on to suit your tastes. read more

If you are looking for good seafood and steak...don't come here. There are only 2 steaks on the menu and all of the seafood items are done fried bar style. The atmosphere and setup is great but the food quality and menu does not reflect this. It is over priced for the mediocre quality of food. I had the large smoked salmon salad. About 3 oz of fish and a few slivers of onions absolutely drenched in dressing all for $15! My fiance had the beer battered fish tacos which were very disappointing. For the price point, I can go down the road to another establishment and get more food that is prepared better. This place has the potential to be awesome. When you walk in, it makes me want great gastro- pub food with a unique twist but it just misses the mark. They do have an excellent selection of Colorado brews and liquor. As a local, I would love to see a place just nail it and step up. Keep trying Salida. read more

My fella and I were cruising through Salida on our way back to Denver, and after walking through the town and checking out several options, we decided on Currents. I loved the feel of the place. It's old timey western saloon, meets present day comfort. We were psyched about the vast selection of local Colorado beers & spirits as well as the diverse menu. The staff was very welcoming and the service was just the right amount of attentive. We experienced a tiny hiccup with the ordering of our food. The way I see it, we all have an off day, regardless of our profession, and the staff here went above and beyond to repair a mistake that we were ready to roll with. The chef came out to let us know he was redoing the order and although we were fine, he insisted on making things right. He said, 'that's not the kind of business we do here.' It was really refreshing to see a staff so committed to giving the best experience possible, and doing everything they could to make up for a small oversight. When our food came out, in a very timely fashion I might add, everything was delicious and we were left very happy and satisfied. To top it off, when we got our bill we found that almost half of it had been discounted. This was totally not necessary, but a really generous gesture. These guys care about the service and product they are putting out. We will definitely be back during our next visit to Chaffee County. read more

Hadn't ventured into currents because of expensive rumors but hey we're the only ones in town who would keep their kitchen open an extra fifteen minutes to serve us which I really appreciated. I was then really impressed by the variety on their menu and how affordable things were. Most dishes are offered in half portions which is nice on the wallet and stomach when you're not starving. This was my second time dining at Currents. The previous time was in February and it was super busy but service and food was excellent. The second time not so much. I took my parents, who live in Salida, on a quiet Sunday night before Christmas. The food was just average this time but the server was way below average. She was too busy Fb'ing or texting in the wait station to be bothered with taking care of her table. As for the wine menu, all though having it on the wall is a novel idea but only if you are sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant. If seated in a booth you have to get up and walk over to study the selection. It might be helpful for the waitstaff to learn and recite the selection, just saying. Salida does not have many options and since I know from a previous experience you can be really good may I suggest you focus on consistency with your food and more so with your service. read more

The food and drinks were great. Service not so much. We waited almost 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us at the door and were told it would be a 10 minute wait. After about 30 minutes we were finally seated. I know they can't predict exactly how fast someone will eat there food and there seemed to be an extraordinary number of lingerers. After we ordered we waited and waited and were finally told the printers went offline so our orders never made it to the kitchen. The whole ordeal took almost 2 hours from the time we walked in the door. Food was good but definitely not worth 2 hours of waiting. read more

Ordered Bangers and Mash. Served Bratwurst and Saurkraut. And mash. Mentioned to staff the mistake. Were told this was the bangers and mash meal. LOL. Guess they don't know what the difference is. Bangers = sausage links with a certain percentage breadcrumbs, reknowned British pub food. Bratwurst=German sausage with absolutely no breadcrumbs and completely different seasonings. Saurkraut=German, hence the Germans, who viciously fought the British during 2 world wars, being called "Krauts". Totally different taste and not interchangeable, yo! What up, chef? I've had numerous bad experiences here, and the food makes my mouth itch due to all the preservatives. Best bet here is chicken and mashed potatoes, and that's only if you can't make this simple meal at home. Better as a bar instead of a restaurant. 2 stars because it can be a decent bar scene. I'm a local that moved away briefly and used to go here for years. It used to be good, but sadly just another restaurant in Salida that lost its quality. They always had this Chocolate Martini, but it was no longer on the menu. We saw one of the owners behind the counter and told the waiter we wanted this drink and he assured us that they knew and would do it for me. Thought that was nice. The drink comes out, it's half the size (like seriously the small martini glass) and is nothing like it. Both the waitress and bartender asked how it was and I explained that it wasn't good and not to mention tiny. No replacement, no refund... And then they don't tell us that it's $11.07 for one 3oz mix drink. Ridiculous. read more

This place is really good. They have a great beer selection. The people running the place make you feel like family even if it's your first time there. You can tell that locals come to this place often as well. They knew some of the customers by name. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the fish special of the day. I forget what the name of it was but it had a delicious lemon flavor. If we ever go back to salida this will be one place we stop at for sure. The bartender had great recommendations. All I asked was for something light and local. He was able to get me a beer that met those standards. read more

I ordered a steak and tried their Amber Ale. They have a decent selection of beers and a great bartender. The steak was delicious and their in house steak sauce was a great compliment.
