So sad how the service has deteriorated... I'm a long time neighborhood customer. Ordered takeout a month or so ago. Repeated - extra sauce, extra order of basmati to the guy at the register.( I've always repeated my orders since my favorite server- Raki went home.) Walked home with my order to find only one set of sauce, and no extra rice,... and I was charged for it!! grrr! I haven't been by cos I was so disappointed! However, today I had extra time and craved the curry! There was one server when I came in. After seating me, I had to flag him down to order. When I asked for condiments- he said sure, and forgot. Asked another guy who came out - he got me take out cups with the sauces. My original server never came back after placing food on the table. ***Luckily the food was right!*** My water glass was never refilled. Three guys fiddled with a music cd and the video on the flat screen multiple times.... The music was then too loud to contemplate adding a chai or dessert! I hate giving this restaurant a bad review, since they have both good food and good in-store service during the two times I've been there. However, a botched order--without any sort of explanation or apology--will do that. (They do liste a way of contacting them other than by phone; hopefully this review will help spur them to fix what appears, based on other reviews, to be a systemic problem.) I've placed three orders with Curry Heights in the last two weeks (all through Yelp's Eat24 service); in all three cases, the orders were scheduled to be delivered within 45-60 minutes. The first was delivered in 60 minutes; the second took 75 minutes. The third order (placed on 4/30/2018), however, never showed up. 75 minutes after placing the order, I called the restaurant. They claimed they didn't have the order, and eventually told me to call Eat24 before hanging up. I then called Eat24, who told me that the order *had* gone through without any issue, and the representative called the restaurant to see what was going on. After calling the restaurant, however, the representative from Eat24 told me that the restaurant had told him, "Just cancel the order" and promptly hung up on him, too. I can live with an order being a little late from time to time, and I can live with the fact that people make mistakes. What is not acceptable, however, is when a restaurant peddles in dishonesty in order to avoid taking any responsibility. There were half a dozen opportunities for the restaurant to get this right or fix the problem, and yet the restaurant failed to take any of those steps. I may still consider going to this restaurant in person in the future, but unless the restaurant ends up taking responsibility for its poor service, I'm going to have to find another Indian restaurant in the area from which to order takeout. read more

Most of the reviews here said the delivery was bad but the food was good, so I decided to pick it up myself thus avoiding the major issue - so I thought. I got the saag paneer, which is my go to Indian food order to check if it's worth coming back for. Unfortunately, I would say that it's not. I love Indian food but this tasted like it barely qualified. The food was so bland that I could barely taste any flavor, if it wasn't for the different texture that the saag paneer gave the rice I would have thought I was eating plain rice. I'm honestly shocked that it's possible to have such flavorless food - especially with all that spices that Indian cuisine normally requires. The man behind the counter seemed sweet but overstressed and overworked, as he had to constantly ask me to wait as he ran to get things like forks, bread, and containers for the side dishes. The entire place seemed a bit disorganized, and while that's fine if the food is good in this case the food didn't make it worth it. It is a ton of food for very cheap, especially with the lunch special, so I guess if you're starving it's okay. But I couldn't bring myself to finish, even with all the add ons of onions and limes. Since moving to Brooklyn Heights, I have been desperate to find GREAT Indian food...and I am still on that mission. There really seem to be only two Indian restaurants near my apartment...one named Amin (which according to Yelp is not worth my trouble) and the other is Curry Heights. This past Sunday, I decided to order in some Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Biryani from Curry Heights to see if they were going to be my new favorite Indian delivery. The delivery was pretty fast (about a half hour) and I was happy I could use Seamless Web to order. The Chicken Biryani was pretty good, though not very spicy (which is OK for me). I'm very picky about my chicken and the boneless white meat in the Biryani was up to my standards (no fat). The Chicken Tikka Masala was OK, nothing outstanding and I didn't love the consistency of the chicken. But I will say the portions were large and I was full after my meal. I'd order from Curry Heights again, but I am still looking for amazing Indian food in the Heights. read more

If I could, I will rate this place -10. We were told that if we would like to dine-in, we need to order an entree and ordering of 4 appetizers plus deserts and drinks won't qualify us for dining. We will have to take a take-out. How ridiculous it is. It's hard to review a place like this, as others have pointed out. But I've been biting my tongue for too long. Curry Heights has been the only go-to option for a while. I've tried to justify this review with as much positivity as possible, but after countless instances of the same delivery patterns, I just can't ignore this anymore. It's not a one-off situation that I'm sure the owner will claim in a response to this and apologize for, but at the end of the day, apologies don't fix this situation, you do, by improving your business. Here are some details, in two simple points: - Portion sizes are great. That's the positive. However, it's always delivered cold, even in warm weather, but nothing a microwave can't fix. When asking for extra spicy, it's resulted in the same bland food. So if you like spicy I guess you just have to accept that it never will be. White people, right? That aside, the flavors and quality appear to be good, so I'm happy with the actual food in general. -Delivery speed is unbelievably slow. As in, never have I ever had a restaurant take this long to deliver in my life. None of the other reviews complaining about the slow times are inaccurate, wrong, or deceptive. Expect 1.5-2 hours. Every. Single. Time. Cannot under-emphasize this. My wife and I strategically plan when ordering here, placing it an extra hour early so that we aren't suffering by the time it arrives. Not even joking, it's embarrassing just writing this down. Anyway, maybe you'll have more luck or if you live in walking distance stopping by will probably be a better experience. WOW!!! India right in Brooklyn! I've been to India quite a few times and loved both the food, as well as the friendly people and hospitality. Not to mention the enormous amount of quality food you get for your buck. I've been living in NY for many years and never quite found this "perfect Indian" combination. Not until yesterday when I first visited Curry Heights. The food is amazing. Genuinely Indian with the best of ingredients. Whether chicken, lamb or goat, it was all extraordinary. The variety is also impressive. The hospitality is exceptional. These guys really make you feel like the center and will do anything for you to enjoy and all in a very friendly attitude. And finally - the price. Fair is an understatement... an amazing dish twice the size than in Manhattan will pretty much cost half here and with no compromise on quality. On the contrary! Struggled a lot with writing this review since it was a bit of a mixed bag. The food was mostly great. We had a chicken tandoori, bindi masala and saag paneer. The tandoori was good but not spectacular; the bindi and saag were excellent. Unfortunately the service on a Sunday evening left much to be desired. We were seated promptly but it took nearly half an hour before a waiter came to take our order. We almost walked out since we were waiting for such a ridiculously long time. They appears to suffer from a fair queueing problem, where the delivery orders keep preempting the staff so they only come around to the tables once the phone stops ringing, and since the place is apparently quite popular for delivery orders, it's rare that the phone ever stops ringing. The decor could also use a bit of an update; it's pretty dim inside and the carpet and interiors are a little on the threadbare side. I am giving this place a five-star review not because it is a five-star restaurant - it's a solid four-star restaurant - but to offset some of these clueless reviews with 1 or 2 stars - most notably, the guy who talks about the "flavorless" food; this food is so flavorful that I think this guy must work for a competitor or something. Anyway - granted - the service is awful. They just haven't figured this part out. I don't do delivery from there much, I mostly eat in or take out - so I can't speak to their delivery service. But even when you dine in, it's buffet style for lunch (the only time I go), so you stand on line, get your food, and bring it to a table. If they happen to fill your water glass - consider yourself lucky. But once you know the place, you can always just get up and fill your own glass from the silver pitcher on the counter. So - why the high rating in spite of this? Because the people who work there are nice and accommodating. I'm a regular, so they know me and always bring me fresh hot chillis on the side. But the main reason for the high rating is that the food is excellent, period. Whether it's tandoori chicken, goat curry, dal makhani, tarka dal, chicken vindaloo or saag paneer - all of it is surprisingly good, and a great value at right around $10. You can't beat it. It even comes with warm, freshly made naan. The ambiance is decent too - you can have a conversation. Unfortunately, they have the TV on in front of the place, but I just chalk it up to a bad idea from folks who don't know any better. I guess some people like to watch the news while they eat, but really it's unnecessary and disruptive. This is hands down the best Indian food I've had the US. Absolutely the best. My friends and I were so happy, we went there twice in one day. This was the first time when we told someone to make the food spicy, they actually made it spicy. We ordered Chicken Lollipop (SO GOOD)which came with our beloved Schezwan Chutney, Gobi Manchurian (Super Spicy), Chicken Karahi and Vegetable Jalfrezi (Both amazing). I don't have Indian food often, but sometimes the craving for heavily fragrant and hearty food unexpectedly hits, and then nothing else will do. When it does, my feet often turn in here to Curry Heights. In the afternoon, the lunch specials are clearly popular with the local businessfolk who quickly fill up the tables to dine and powwow. As a result, I tend to get takeout, and whether I order through Grubhub or Seamless, my food is always ready well before the estimated time. A favorite of mine is the chana masala, a sauce-heavy blend of tomato, onions, and a bevy of spices that my untrained palate always has a hard time teasing apart. Still, every other spoonful unearths the odd bay leaf or whole cardamom seeds, which coyly reveal just a few of the ingredients in the magical, spicy, winter-thawing blend. If I'm really hungry, I'll also indulge in an order of samosas, which are pastries that are stuffed with a savory blend of potatoes, peas, and lentils and then deep fried (there's also a lamb and green pea version available). Though there are only two per serving (for $3.50), I'm often overstuffed after polishing these off, rendering me sleepy and unproductive for a full afternoon of work. Currently, they're running an special through their website (www.curryheights.com) that allows you to take $5 off your purchase of $20 or more with the coupon code HOTSPICE. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area,mainly due to its lunch specials,which offer a variety of food to pick and choose from . My usual combo is the tandoori chicken with a non veg curry which is always consistently good. I usually go with chicken tikka masala for the curry which is boneless pieces of chicken in a heavenly tomato cream gravy. I don't like dark meat in chicken much and this seems to be one of the few Indian places which uses chicken breast pieces in curries. The tandoori chicken too is tender, juicy and incredibly tasty,with a choice of boneless or bone-in pieces served with sauteed onions and peppers. The naan served with lunch is soft and fluffy and the perfect vehicle to sop up the curry.The curry is also served with rice which I almost always have to skip because its a lot of food! Listen. Listen. LISTEN. this place. This darned place. I've ordered from them throughout my three years at Brooklyn Law, and they never disappoint. I'm writing this review about five minutes after I just devoured the three entree lunch box, which I had with chicken tikka, chicken vindaloo and goat curry. I've had a lot of Indian food, and I always appreciate a fantastic lamb or goat dish whether it's curry or biryani, and Curry Heights has one of the best goat curries I have ever had. Perfectly tender, succulent and flavored, even if the idea of a gamey meat makes you uneasy, their goat curry will change your mind and palette quickly. The chicken is always great, but their variety of curry is impressive. I also opted for an order of the lamb samosas, which was a mistake only because I had a food overload. But the lamb was delicious. A bit salty and oily, but it's a lamb samosa--that's to be expected. My only critique, if you can call it that, is that they don't leave the bay leaves whole, so if you aren't careful, you'll get a piece of leaf in a bite of food, which as we all know, is not pleasant. The problem with Indian food in America is not that it's spicy, but that it's watered-down, sweetened-up and spiced-down to please palates that enjoy sugary salty pap like American-style pad thai and Dunkin' Donuts croissandwiches. If you've tasted Indian food in London or India then you'll be disappointed - but, in this neighborhood, Curry Heights is about as good as you'll get. The meats were tender. Going a bit downhill. There are new features: a buffet during lunch, which is well priced ($8 for options of one meat dish, one veg dish, a naan and rice), and a flat screen tv (oh, boy!) The buffet is not bad but not great. I guess that is to be expected, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Today my chicken tikka masala tasted overly sweet and creamy, and lacked flavor. My saag paneer had very little "paneer" in sight. The non-pre made food, however, is still a good option, and better, as it's made fresh to order. Additionally, the service is still deplorable. They forget things until you tell them five times, and are slow with bringing check and change. The guys at the buffet are, for lack of a better word, annoying. As I stood trying to decide what I wanted, they literally recited every choice. I have eyes buddy, I can read myself. I told them it's OK, and I could read on by myself, and they went "Oh, so you "know" indian food." It's edible and there are some good things about this place, but I'll pass on it in the future. Minced Lamb and Pea Samosa - the dough was perfect - really nicely done. Flaky and tender, but strong enough to hold all the meat in. Really good dough. However, there were no peas in the filling, and the lamb was very very finely minced, nicely seasoned. Chicken Tikka Masala - really dry white meat cubes in a sauce made of sweet tomato sauce and cream. Not very good. Pass. Naan - good! soft and chewy, great for sopping up sauces. If only the sauces were worthy of sopping up. Raita - overly sweet, too much carrot, not enough cucumber. Pass. Gulab Jamun - they made a mistake with the order it seems and I got Ras Malai instead. Really not a fan - too milky - but as far as Ras Malai goes, this one was decent. Delivery was within the projected time, and the delivery guy was very nice and polite, so points for that. My sister lives a couple blocks away from this joint and recommended it to me for dinner on my way home from her place during today's blizzard. The first bad sign was after I placed my order online, I was presented with a screen that said "for best service, please call us to confirm your order." Now, I've ordered online takeout hundreds of time, and I figured it would be pretty dead, so I just decided to go in about 20 minutes later. They had not started my order yet. So I ask the guy if it's ready and he feigns confusion, checks the computer, and mentions that he had to check in the back. He returns and says to me that "it'll be ready in just a few moments." I ask him point blank if they just started it, to which he responds. "Yes...just 6 or 7 more minutes!" At this point I almost walked out, but I was really in the mood for a nice curry and I didn't want to wait for delivery in this weather... Despite my better judgment I waited. When my food came out, he said "you know, you should just come in...don't order online." I responded that had I ordered takeout, they never would have gotten to it, his only response was "next time just come in!" No "thank you so much for your patience." No "have a papadum on us...the weather is really lousy!" Just kind of a "don't let the door hit you on the way out." Given my sister's recommendation, I decided to mask the bad taste in my mouth and just try to enjoy my food. The paneer tikka app was pretty good. The onions and marinade were smoky, the paneer squeaky. But the pieces of cheese were just too darn big! My chicken madras, which in the picture looked like a bright and thick tomato sauce, was pretty much dried out chicken in a watery and tasteless brown curry with a few chunks of tomato. Delicious! Ordered chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, chicken biryani, and samosas. The chutney for samosas was good, they were a decent size, and well spiced inside. Chicken tikka masala was delicious! And the naan was fluffy yet crispy, truly the best naan I've ever had--usually I'm like, naan is naan, it's yummy but whatever, but NOW I know what exceptional naan tastes like! The biryani was good and had lots of really big chunks of chicken, so was a substantial meal. The waiter seemed kind of put off that we asked for onion and lime with the meal, which was kind of odd to me, but maybe it's regional tastes. My bf is from Mumbai and he loved this place, if that helps you believe they're authentic. Would revisit! read more
