Avoid this shop at all costs. I wasn't going to leave a bad yelp review. But today's revelation was my final straw. I'll try to keep this short and simple. But we all know how that'll go. 1) I brought my car on the day I was told by Mark. The car was already stripped on the inside. Meaning I'd see the work after completion + their job is that much easier. I would stop by 1-2 times a week after work for fun to see the progress and bs with Mark. I didn't have a deadline and always expressed this to Mark. I wanted quality with no rush. My car sat with nothing done to it for weeks. Each visit was an excuse why they hadn't started the work. During these visits and bs'ng I shared my bad experience at another shop years back. Unknowingly he would do the exact same thing to me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and was excited to see the results since I sacrificed urgency 2) Got the car back and maybe 30% of what I asked for was done. sloppy & lazy work + I can see ALL of it since no interior panels. Not sure what they were thinking. Brought the car back for them to "make it right". I provided a few interior panels to help in tolerances for the sound deadener. I was clear about not wanting/needing the panels to be installed. You'd think not installing would benefit them anyways. What did they do-They installed a panel that's hard to remove in the hatch. I had my suspicions they didn't apply deadener under that panel. They had applied it on the passenger side in the same spot. Since I didn't provide that panel, I could easily see. Keep in mind this is a simplified version of the story. A story of complete incompetence and lies. Fast forward to today. I had the time and will power to remove that panel. No deadener. Each interaction I'd tell Mark that I'm not looking for value. I was extremely clear I wanted quality. All of it fell on deaf ears unfortunately. Terrible terrible shop. Multiple times I was clear that I was judging them on this job to determine if I'd bring more work to them. Summary: -they took forever even though I told them another shop did this tome and I was not happy -they did a terrible job even though I repeatedly told them I was not looking for value. I wanted quality. -they took the car back to fix it and "make it right" which they did fine. But installed a panel and blatantly lied about deadening underneath it. I remembered another issue. I was clear I wanted 2 wire battery relocation. Negative + positive. He did just the positive and told me the numbers (ohms volts or whatever) worked out fine and I don't need a negative wire. That's not what I agreed on. Not what I agreed to pay for. No communication with me he was making this decision. This is just a crappy shop. I'd stay away read more

Today, the same top notch products and services is still exist. In regards to cost, they are reasonable especially for what you get. To me, I'm willing to pay for better products/services anytime. I wanted to surprise my wife and kids with upgrading our 2003 Honda Odyssey stock Radio/CD audio system to the latest system that can interface with our iPhones. I first saw these guys back in the late '80's. My first visit was two years ago for a simple head unit. Mark was nice, knowledgeable and helpful. No sales pressure. Good enough that I just returned to complete my system. I told him what I wanted and he got it done for a real good price. It's worth saying again that there was no pressure to change my list. He provided exceptional service. There was a couple of slight, very minor issues with the dash fitment and the loss of steering wheel controls that I noticed after leaving. Upon rescheduling, Mark went above "good" service to make it right. I gladly offered to decline his generosity but you can guess that didn't happen. I left with a smile that comes with great customer service. I waited until after my appointment to fix the issues before writing this review. My commute is a JOY now thanks to Custom Car Alarms! I love my '10 Rav-4 but bought it before backup cameras, screens and such were standard. So instead of buying a new car, I came here to help bring it into this decade. They set me up with a rear camera and a stereo panel (connects to my phone for music, maps, messages etc) and added sound deadening material to the floor and front doors, all for a very reasonable price (much cheaper than buying a new car). They didn't try to over sell anything to us and even put in new dash lights (that we had previously bought) so that we didn't have to try to figure out how to take the dash off and do it ourselves. My car audio install was both more expensive *and* less expensive than expected: more because the speakers *I* had gotten from Best Buy didn't fit and CCA's speakers were more expensive (and better...); less expensive because they refused (read: strongly suggested against) to install the BestBuy head unit because the install kit looked incorrect (they were right: it turns out that a Mini Cooper Countryman is not just a larger Mini Cooper and the Best Buy install kit wouldn't fit). Then they provided, let's say, very favorable pricing on the install after I kept returning after I said I would complete the install (and then didn't do it). Just headed out. Got a call 10 minutes later saying "Hey, did you leave a $20 bill on the ground when you left?" "No, I don't think I did. In any case, if I did, buy a beer on me...". Good guys. But the reason for my review is that the quality of installation and attention to detail on this particular car was unlike anything I had seen in 25 years in the automotive business and stereos. Bought a SiriusXM satellite radio to add to our listening pleasure along with the already cool stereo/cd player the car had in place. Thinking this would be easy-peasy to install ourselves....he he... So after purchasing this item at Best Buy with minimal help, I get home and realize this could be done, there are cords....many cords. And the placement of this device was a big issue I hadn't thought out well either. I call back Best Buy and they tell me a week to get it professionally installed. Nope. Leaving shortly for LA. And why would I want to purchase an item and them wait a WEEK to have it installed? I understand something can't be done the same day, but a week? So I started my search for alternate options. Saw a few other stereo installation places, no answer. Then I was referred to Custom Car Alarms through another place that no longer did stereo installs. I took the time to look it up on yelp, then I took a chance on a Friday at 11:30 ish, and called.... A very nice friendly guy named Mark answered, and I explained our dilemma about placement and wires...blah blah blah. He said "no problem", and if I could bring it down at 2 pm we can look at it together and figure out the best placement for it. Hello?! 2 pm today? Why yes that's what he said, well okay! Now he did inform us that it could take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half, and they charge $90 an hour. But you know I did have a bad experience with Best Buy in the past where they forgot to give me a remote for a stereo after install, and trying to get anyone on the phone to find it was a total nightmare. (I ended up calling corporate and they took care of it and made it right) But I was a bit gun shy to use them again and plus a week just wasn't going to work for me. So I didn't mind spending more to get the job done right and all the wires tucked away neatly. They got me in right away and were super friendly and professional. read more

These guys are great. They have installed a viper system on all of my cars and so far so good. One time dealership was pointing fingers at them for faulty installation and they helped us out free of charge to disconnect and connect the alarm. I personally don't think they did anything wrong as the car was fine for 6 months after their installation so I think the dealership didn't know what was the problem and started pointing fingers at others. Anyway I will be back with my next fleet car. Mark is great and always takes good care of me. Do make an appointment before you go. They get busy sometimes. read more

It's nice to know that a service focused custom car audio shop still exist. Custom Car Alarms is the standard bearer for that type of establishment. I have had my 96 impala as well as my mk4 Supra worked on by them and I'm always impressed by the results beyond what I expected walking in. They treat your project like it's theirs. They would call me throughout the process of installation, if the plan was going to need to be deviated in any way. I went to Custom Car Alarms in January to install my Blackvue dashcam. Once inside the store, it reminded me of my youth. I fondly remembered my very first pull out stereo back in the early 1990s, a Kenwood KRC 810 that I saved up for. [OK, so I'm totally aging myself now.] I thought I was so cool walking around Serramonte in my high school uniform toting around this black "pulll out" bag with a Kenwood patch on it. I also remember my second car stereo, an Alpine 7525 (graduated to the face plate type). That one was also an excellent stereo. I had a couple other car stereos after that, but they never sounded as good as my first 2.. They just don't make them like they used to. Anyways, back to reality. I've become really particular about who works / installs mods on my little car. For example, I traveled to Livermore (from San Jose) to get my car tinted after quite some research. I'm very satisfied with the work on my tint. Still not sure how a 6+ ft tall man managed to put tint in the rear window of my little a3 sedan. But anyways, when I heard Michael has been in the car stereo industry for a few decades, I was more than intrigued. This guy must know what he's doing. Just like my tint guy, Michael is a master in his craft. I traveled from San Jose to Pleasant Hill just for a dash cam install and glad I did. The install on my dashcam (front and rear) was super clean! I'm so impressed with the work and the friendly service we received from the staff. I totally recommend! read more

NEVER will I recommend someone to Custom Car Alarms. I came here to have my Eclipse installed. Simple double-din install with back-up camera and bluetooth installation. I have never encountered such a sloppy installer when it comes to car audio. List of my headaches: Air con is totally out All power outlets are out Fresh air ventilation blows hot engine air Antenna installed on my BLACK dash with a GRAY felt pad looking thing (looks absolutely ridiculous) These are the problems that I am just now encountering. Who knows what other ones will surface as time goes on. I am waiting to see what these guys will do to correct this problem. I live in southern California and they are saying that the only way that they will fix this problem is if I bring my car back up. Do they not realize how FAR southern California is and BUSY people are?? In addition to this bullshit, they totally tried to up-sell me on some speakers that I apparently did not need. Initially we were quoted $2xx for the install which then jumped to $3xx. The install ended up closer to $500 by the time they were through with a basic routine double din install. The briefing on how to use the system was brief to say the least. This place is a total rip off with their rookie installers. I have seen installers at Best Buy do a better job. read more

This is a great place. My Sony car stereo quit working a couple of days ago and I went in search mode to find a Sony upgrade replacement. This place was the ONLY store within 65 miles that had the unit I was looking for. I called them as they were opening and was told to come in now to get the work done. As promised, they had the very unit I wanted. The counter man said it would take maybe 90 minutes to do the install. I asked that he also remove the old satellite receiver and disc changer (located in the back seat area) AND asked would they also check my alarm system to see why it was having periodic false alarms. He sez no problem. In less than an hour the job was done. The extra work was performed without additional charge and everything worked fine. The tech even took the time to show me the how to operate the updated features on the stereo unit and it was a clean install. This is the place that had installed the alarm system about 7 years ago and twice before today they had checked it, tweaked it and re-located the alarm antenna for me - all with no charge and no hassle. I can't say just how great these people are. Even living a half-hour away I keep coming back and keep leaving satisfied. And the music isn't half bad, either. Give them a try. read more
