Darcie and crew are OUTSTANDING! We have had their help with our landscaping at least 3 times in the last 10 years and have always had a positive and pleasant experience. Darcie helped us convert our front lawn to xeriscape almost 10 years ago. They came back and fixed some major problems in our back yard about a year later, and this year we had them back again to restore our (literally) burned-out backyard landscaping. After 20+ years, it was not only tired, but the sun had done its utmost damage. Darcie and her crew pulled out everything that was worn, burned out, overgrown, and no longer viable and trimmed, pruned, refreshed and replaced the landscaping with fresh plants, and cedar shred bark. They also checked the drip system, replacing many broken areas, and found and fixed a break in the power supply to our malibu lights. I was in need of refreshing my backyard so I called Darcie at Custom Plantings. She had done a fabulous job of redesigning my front yard a couple years ago (see pictures). I saw Darcie's work in other yards around our neighborhood and decided to call her for an estimate on redoing our front yard. Boy, am I glad I did. She was so easy to work with; got to know me and my gardening style (low to easy maintenance!!) She told me it would be at least five weeks AFTER our lawn was torn out before she would have her crew finish. That's because it takes 5 weeks of watering for the weeds to come back up. She was right! In fact it took 2 more rounds of spraying before she was confident the weeds wouldn't come back. I think that's what sealed our deal to begin with; she was adamant that weeds had to be gone before any new planting could begin. Her crew is amazing. They were here during the over 100 degree days; started at 6:00 every morning. Always on time, cheerful and always willing to answer any of my questions. And they know their stuff. We have always had a drainage problem in our back yard. I'm very confident that they have that fixed now. They put in all new drip in the front but also looked at my drip in the back and fixed that too. They cleaned up every day before they left; sweeping the walkways and driveway. Darcie and I went to Green Acres to pick out plants. I decided I wanted plants that would benefit bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. With her help I got exactly what I wanted and I don't have to do hardly any maintenance! Darcie is so knowledgeable about plants that she made it easy! I love how our yard turned out. Darcie and her crew did an amazing job with our yard! It is a big front yard and we had to start from scratch. Darcie even made sure that we prepped the yard, spraying for weeds (the yard sat empty with only dirt and weeds for over a year before we hired her) and waiting to kill them off so that she could do this the right way. We were anxious to get started but she encouraged us to be patient and we trusted her with the entire process. It was amazing to see the flood of workers that arrived to work each day! They were hard working, courteous and approachable and on time every day! The foreman, Jose, was always patient and kind with all my questions. He was easy to work with and knowledgeable. Darcie was also at the site almost every day and completely part of the process. She is so knowledgeable about plants and plant care and walked the whole yard with me explaining each plant and it's care (I am a gardener at heart and am planning on taking care of pruning and caring for the plants myself). The business voicemail still mentions a $3,000 minimum per job & now indicates bookings were for Dec projects, already a month further out than the last call I made. Business must be good. Darcie and her crew exceeded my expectations. I couldn't believe the end results. I bid the project out to a number of landscapers and Darcie's was essentially on par with the other estimates from reputable landscapers. What set Darcie apart for me was 2 things: 1- her expertise on plants and how they will flourish and 2- that she said she would be on site for every major transition in the project. Especially with her expertise on plants, I appreciated her talent because I had some must-have plants I wanted that would have not survived (to her point, I don't want you to throw your money away on a plant that can't survive in this environment). I LOVED this. The drought tolerant landscaping project expanded as her crew started--something I wasn't expecting but necessary work (I changed my mind about some of the design, pathways and I asked for a better drainage and irrigation system which required installing an outdoor outlet ). Darcie was fair in her pricing and probably did more work on the project because she wanted to honor her estimate as much as possible. The only modifications were discussed and agreed to in advance (no surprises). Finally, her crew was wonderful. Even when Darcie was not on site leaving them to complete a phase of the project, they were incredibly respectful, positive and helpful. For example, when installing the drainage system and the irrigation, I asked them how the systems worked and where the paths went and they explained everything to me because they said that I would need to know if I ever wanted to change it or work on it myself. I highly recommend Darcie and Custom Planting to anyone who is looking for a true expert to work on their work of art. Was a pleasure beginning to end! We (wife and I) contacted Darcie at Custom Planting based on these very reviews... She responded promptly and provided several residential addresses where she and her crew provided services. The landscapes at the addresses provided were of varying ages so we got a nice cross section of more recent and aged work. The landscapes looked lush, clean, tasteful, and cohesive... We decided to move forward with Custom Plantings and scheduling was painless. We scheduled in September for November if I remember correctly. I was anxious to have our landscape redone, but figured a busy landscape contractor was a good sign... Darcie visited our home (in Roseville) within a week or two of us scheduling, got a rough sketch of what we were looking for, took some measurements and put us on the calendar for mid-November with the understanding that we'd meet a couple weeks prior to commencement of work to pick out plants.... About a week or so before our scheduled date, Darcie came over and my wife and I and Darcie drove to a local nursery, where Darcie had us "thumbs up or thumbs down" plants she liked to use that would meet our requirements for drought tolerant landscape... Meeting and spending time at the nursery with Darcie was fun. She's cool, kinda funky and you can tell she enjoys what she does... The project proceeded as we were told it would, from delivery of materials, to modification of existing sprinkler system, to amount of time required to complete work... Her crew was prompt, friendly, efficient, patient with nosy and slightly obnoxious neighbors, and they cleaned up well at the end of each day! The crew was a pleasure to have onsite. Good things come to those who wait! Darcie and her crew are so good you will have to wait for her schedule but it was a great decision on our end to do so as she was awesome. Every so often you come across someone who is truly exceptional and loves what they do for a living and Darcie is that person. She just completed a 10 day job (we are on over 2 acres) at our home and we are already scheduling her for the next phase of work. She returned our initial call within 24 hours, came out to the house and walked the job with us answering our questions and sharing her vision (she knows her plants!). The entire process from first call to contracts was quick and painless. From day one, she told us she was booked solid and it would be several months before she could start. We were reluctant but based upon her reviews we took the chance and now that her crew is finished, I would wait a year for her before I went somewhere else. She met my wife at Pottery World to help pick out pots and answered all of our questions about the different types of plants she recommended. As I mentioned previously, we were several months out to begin an 11 day job. Shortly thereafter she had a cancellation one day and asked if she could start some work near the pool in June, which she did. It turned out to be the day before we hit that 15 day heat spell with temps over 105 every day and hitting 115 on a few days. No fault of her own, several plants did not make it but she replaced the plants and kept adjusting the water until it was working. A few months later she came back and completed the job over 10 days and when when it was finished, the place looked great, everything was clean and her guys were great. They showed up every morning at 6:30 and put in a solid eight plus hours. I spend a lot of time around job sites and I have never met harder working and a more courteous group of guys working landscape in my life. They were a pleasure to be around.
