The person running the shop is super friendly and seems to remember his customers. Their prices are very reasonable and ready within a matter of hours to day depending on how much needs to be tailored. This is a great local shop to get your tailoring done. I was in a bind and had a last minute funeral to attend the next morning. I had a suit but needed my pants hemmed and it was already close to 7PM. I called and asked if he was able to do it given the circumstances and he said yes. Seeing that this was an emergency, he could have easily added an additional fee for these requests but he charged me the normal price and I was in and out in under 30 minutes. Came here a couple years ago to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed, and it was a chiffon dress, so the material is a bit tricky. The dress was hemmed perfectly, but it cost me. I think it was $60-70 for the job. The dress itself cost me around $100, so I had a bit of a shock with the quote, but they did the job within a week (I wasn't in a rush), and the shop is conveniently located for me. I returned again two years later to have a simple cotton skirt hemmed a few inches, which cost me around $25 this time, again, done within the week (didn't need it in a hurry). Was hesitant in getting jerseys tailored because I've heard many negative things about the end results of tailoring jerseys, but took the risk. Price was a it high, but you pay for what you get. This is the absolute case of it. Sent a jersey to get it tailored from a size XL to essentially a size Small. Loved it. Actually, I have an excellent seamstress who can do anything from resizing and custom fitting to making a new suit from scratch. Not cheap, but worth every penny. The only problem - she lives an hour drive away. Recently I bought swim shorts which were too long. I work 5 minutes away from Wheaton Mall. How difficult it could be to take out a few inches from swim pants? Surely ANY tailor or seamstress can do it. No need to drive far for such a simple job. Right? Wrong. I went to this Custom tailoring place in Wheaton Mall. The old Korean guy came out, marked my shorts (I requested to take out 3.5 inches), charged me $20 upfront and said it would take a week. I told him i need it Friday the latest. He looked unhappy but agreed. Friday afternoon came to the shop. Tried the shorts. Instead of 3.5 inches he took out just 1. Shorts looked pretty much the same. When I told him about it he demanded additional $12 upfront. Showed him where i wanted the cut. He said Ok and then marked in the wrong place again. I looked at him in disbelief. Getting too old I guess? Took my pants and left. Long drive is better than aggravation and wasting money. read more

My boyfriend and I recently took his dress shirt to be altered for a smaller fit at Great Custom Tailor. (We couldn't return the shirt since it was pre-packaged.) The tailor quickly took his measurements and took us to return in four days. We could've asked for the shirt earlier, but we weren't in a rush. So, we returned four days later and the shirt fits and looks SO much better. I inspected the new seams and they were very well sewed. The tailor did a great job. Tip 1: Don't worry about the expired 10% off alterations on his website. He will take 10% off anyway. Tip 2: The shop is next to Jukebox Diner. Found this shop on Yelp (holler!) while lookin for a place to get my bridesmaid dress altered in a hurry at a reasonable price. They're located in Wheaton Mall; follow the signs for "restaurant row" - it's a tiny little shop next to East Hollywood Cafe. They definitely got it done in a hurry! The first time I went in, the owner guy (it's a small operation; he's the only person I ever saw in there) had me put on the dress in their little changing room, then he pinned it to fit, I paid $65 (you must pay upfront) - which I thought was a bit high but the wedding's days away so I didn't argue - and I was out in 5 minutes. Came back for it a few days later (though I could've requested sooner), and it was ready to go and fit like a glove. Huge relief! The dress had been way too big and had multiple layers of fabric, but came out looking perfect. Would totally use this place again. Would've been 5 stars if the price was a little lower. read more

Located inside Wheaton mall, next to the Salon area place. Owned by a friendly asian couple. My husband came here to get his slacks hemmed and a vest altered. No problem, received the items at the time he said he's going to have it ready. I had to get 5 work pants hemmed which was $10 each. He asked me when I need to pick it up and I told him whenever is the earliest (I was in no rush since I was busy preparing for my wedding day) so he said one week from now. That was a saturday. A week and couple days later, I went inside to find out it was not even touched! I understand they were busy but an apology could've been nice. This guy is amazing. So friendly and does fantastic work for a great price. Went elsewhere with my wedding dress originally (he did a great job but was too long still), so I took it here to get it hemmed further up. He charged $100 flat for hemming and taking the bust. It was great work. It fits me perfectly now, and looks so much more flattering. Also got it done in under 2 weeks. Was so pleased I brought in my rehearsal dress to (was too big in bust), and it looks brand new and fits perfect. Even had my fiance bring in his suit (was still too big) and he got it all sorted out. $45 for taking in suit jacket and $25 for taking in the pants butt. The seams are also perfect and completed in record time. He's a miracle worker and won't charge you an arm and a leg. I will bring everything to him from now on. read more

The tailor does a decent job. Other then hemming pants and skirts be expected to pay a large amount. I got a new zipper on a gown and was charged $50. I also got another dress strap taken up in the back and it was $60. These prices seem a bit excessive. The job is completed but still very costly. read more

Bottom line: This guy is a master tailor, and he saved my bacon. The scenario: I pick up the mandatory uniform shirts for my corporate convention job, drive home and try them on. Or rather, I try to get them on. No luck...the tailored poplin button-down shirt is easily 8" shy of being able to close over my hips. It's Tuesday at 8pm. My flight leaves 8am Friday morning. I will be working alongside the entire department that hired me only a few months ago in a super visible position (info booth serving 6K people). What to do? I try a quick Yelp search, panic rising fast. I find a tailor who is open -- THIS ONE -- and arrive half an hour before closing. A 5-minute fitting (maybe less) and I'm already encouraged...like a really good hair stylist, he sets to work immediately, and he doesn't need my inept ideas, he knows just what to do. He measures fast and twice but it's clear he got it right the first time. He says "do you have any more of this fabric?" I had ordered 3 shirts, so was able to sacrifice one of them, and he used this to add virtually invisible panels on each side so that the 2 shirts fit like a glove and look just like my coworkers'. I was able to pick them up mid Thursday (basically 1 1/2 work days later), and wore them Friday through Tuesday. I'm so grateful to have found a master tailor who keeps mall hours. If the substantial collection of mended and improved clothing hanging in the shop is any indication, he can do wedding and prom dresses, upscale men's suits -- stuff that requires serious skills. Right after me was someone with jeans with intentional holes and tears -- the sort of thing your mother may have tried to throw away if you didn't guard it -- and he treated both the garment and the customer respectfully, making only the adjustment asked for. Fabulous work, great price, incredibly convenient, everything as promised. REALLY glad I found this place. I'll be back! read more

Cheap and fast tailor. I just moved from DC to Silver Spring. I had previously used a tailor in DC (VIP Tailor near metro center) who was very good, but really expensive and it took at minimum a week to get your tailored items back. The first job I dropped off at custom tailor came in about 35% cheaper than my previous tailor and was ready in 4 days (and I expressly stated that I was in no rush). I just had basic tailoring done so I can't speak too much to level of quality, but everything worked out great. Would be 5 stars except for the complete lack of thought that has been placed into what items they display in the windows (the bright yellow shirt with an oversized black collar doesn't exactly inspire confidence). read more

I use these tailors all the time. They are excellent, reasonable and fast. They are my go-to guys for tailoring. I am 5'2" so I have to get pants hemmed and halter tops shortened. Their prices are less than many other places whose work is not as good. I almost hate to tell anyone else but everyone deserves to know and this business deserves to be supported. They are very professional and take their time measuring and pinning clothes. They also insist you try on the finished product before leaving to make sure the work was done correctly. **CUSTOMERS BEWARE*** Unfortunately, I am giving Custom Tailors a dismal 1 star ( because of a recent incident. I've taken several suits and suit dresses here over the past year and a half. Two weeks ago I dropped off a $179 suit dress (okay, full disclosure, I got it on sale for $120) so the hem could be taken up and the sides let out a bit. It was a brand new dress, never worn-- I put the dress on in the shop so they could mark where the new hemline should be. The dress was spotless. When I came back to pick up the dress a week later, I was informed that they hadn't done any work on the dress because "a few spots" had mysteriously appeared right on the front of the dress, about 4 inches above the existing hem. This is where the terrible rating comes in. Accidents happen, and I'm okay with that. It's what happens next that matters to me. Jung was rude and dismissive to me in the store and said that clearly I'd brought in a dress that had a stain on it. I told him that neither he nor I saw the stain when we were marking the dress up (despite is being very dark on a light gray dress and very noticeable, specially in front of all those mirrors), that this was not a mystery, and that the stain had appeared while under their care. He just ignored me and kept looking at the stain and feeling it, saying, "But I think it will come out." I told him that no tailor would ever have accepted a stained garment without a customer's acknowledgment of it. I asked him if that was true, or if he thought he could have missed that stain while marking the new hem line and pinning the dress. He refused to answer, and instead repeated his line about the stain probably coming out with dry cleaning. So I asked him what his solution was. He said I needed to take it to the cleaners. When I said that I shouldn't have to pay the cleaning charge, he said, "I'm not a dry cleaner." Amazing. I pressed him for a solution-- after all, I'm a pretty frequent customer-- and he finally said, "I guess I'll refund you, but I think it will come out." I'm sorry, stain or no stain, was there ever a question as to whether he'd refund me for work he didn't do? I left the store and immediately took the dress to Alex's dry cleaning and alterations just around the corner (they also do great work, but they're more expensive). She felt the stain and told me it was super glue. SUPER GLUE. So no chance of it coming out, but they'd try. Then she looked at the dress and the chalk markings for the would-be new hemline and said that, even if the stain didn't come out, the dress was salvageable. What?! Apparently there would be enough fabric to double hem the dress, so long as I didn't mind there being a band all around the bottom of the dress (i.e., a seam about 5 in above the bottom of the dress all the way around). There was already a similar band at the bust line, so I actually thought it was a genius and aesthetically pleasing idea. I picked up my dress yesterday, and it fit great and the new banded hemline looks good. It's not the dress I bought and she had to take the hem up a bit higher than I wanted to make it work, but it's better than me being out $120. She said they'd tried spot cleaning the stain before tackling the hem, but it didn't come out. So all in all, Custom Tailors gets 1 star not for an unfortunate accident, but (1) for terrible customer service and complete refusal to take responsibility for their mistake, and (2) for a lack of expertise to be able to present a longstanding customer with a suboptimal but better-than-nothing solution to a problem they'd caused. Needless to say, I won't be returning. If you're going to go to this place, take pictures of your clothing when you drop it off, as they can't be trusted. read more

I went to this shop on 7/31/2012 at 6:45pm. I was met in the front by a woman salesperson who I greeted and explained my need for a tailor. I told her I needed to have my dress altered and needed to have my measurements done since it was my 1st time there. She proceeded to tell me that she did not do the measurements and that the Tailor would return in a few minutes. When he arrived, she said something to him (not english) and he made a weird face so then as he turned to me I explained it again, I needed a dress altered and needed to have my measurements done. He then looked me up and down and told me he thought it would be best to do to a dress shop because "he does his measurements differently" ??? I asked "how do your measurements differ from any other tailor?" and he paused, obviously not expecting me to ask further questions and said "uhhh, you wouldn't understand. You should just go to a dress shop to get it done." So I glanced at the sign in front of his store, "30+ years experience" and thought, wouldn't a professional know how to do basic dress measurements??? It was obvious to me he had some bias against serving me because of my appearance, and when I called him out on it he had nothing to say. I left the store, disgusted. I would never go to this Tailor again and would discourage anyone from giving this man business. Not only was the service poor, they were rude, unprofessional, the store was unclean, and he either does not have the knowledge base he claims (to even do basic measurements) or has bias against certain groups of people. Either way, he does not deserve your hard earned dollars. Westfield Management office should replace his shop with one that will actually draw in revenue for the mall instead of taking up space. read more

Location is very hard to find...but inside mall. On V.M. Road, you will see and pass Duron paint store and CVS. This part is crucial: Make right turn at light into mall on Reedie Drive. KEEP STRAIGHT!! Park in underground parking closer to Macy's entrance. Enter into mall entrance, next to Macy's in the corner. Custom Tailors is right there! Service was ok. Shop is small--maybe even a bit cramped, but workable. Mr. Jung Lim, was okay. I was charged $100 to hem an A-line bridesmaid gown and to place straps on gown. In my mind $100 was max I would pay but $70 being reasonable, so I guess the price was ok, but could've been better. I'll place another review once dress is finished by 9/25/13. read more

"My boyfriend bought a suit at store in the mall that was having a sale and they said that we should take it to this tailor because they were better than the in house tailor they use. He needed the pants to be hemmed up, taken in a little at the waist and the jacket had to be made slimmer which included moving pockets (basically the only thing that fit originally was the shoulders since he is an odd size). We were skeptical about having the jacket altered because of the location of the pockets, but these folks did an amazing job! You can not tell that it was altered and it fits like a custom suit now. It only cost us $70, and we did get a discount because we were referred by the store (but I think it was only 15 to 20%), but I think that with the amount of altering that was done and the quality of the work I was expecting it to be well over $100 even with the discount. Highly recommended. I am even thinking of taking them my wedding dress to be altered." read more
