This tailor has done several excellent alterations for me like hemming pants, taking the waist in, letting pants or sleeves down, adding darts etc. I have been very happy with their work. Recently I purchased an embroidered strapless gown. The think and detailed fabric was gorgeous but it needed to be taken in at the wait and let out at the hips. They did such delicate adjustments around the bonding that it fits like a glove. I was so worried how the dress would turn out, but it was absolutely perfect. Five stars. All the stars! Brides! Do yourself a favor and take your dress to another tailor before you go through what I have. I do not normally leave bad reviews but I am hoping to save someone else the trouble. We took the dress here because the master tailor came highly recommended. Unfortunately, he was rude and did not meet my expectations as far as the quality of his service. Prior to bringing the dress in he was shown a picture and told that the dress was very heavy, had a lot beading, and needed significant resizing. He claimed that he could do the job. When we brought the dress in for the first fitting he immediately commented that the dress was dirty (it is a previously owned dress and has a few minor marks), very heavy (which it is), and questioned why we bought it (answer: because it is still a beautiful dress despite its marks and I was hoping to save some money). This felt a little insulting, but that's his opinion so originally I just ignored him. I became slightly worried at the first fitting when he didn't take my measurements or pin the dress and instead marked it with blue marker. However, I don't use tailors very frequently so I was thinking that my expectation of the process could have been wrong. The trouble really began during the second fitting and when picked up the dress, so here is the list of things that had me panicking and in tears. 1. Again, he commented on how dirty and heavy the dress was at the second fitting and when we picked it up. However, dress is now stained with blue marker where he had marked it so ultimately he added to how "dirty" the dress is. In addition, his comment regarding how heavy the dress is indicated that it was potentially "too much" dress for him to handle and that he didn't have the experience with wedding dresses like this to do the job correctly. 2. When I tried on the dress at the second fitting it was still far too large (to the point that it I had to hold it up) and it was not fitted to me. When I asked him if he could take it in more, he flat out said "NO" and did not explain his reasoning. Instead, he said that he would put a clip in the back and that would solve the problem (which it did not, because the dress was still far too large after we picked it up) 3. When I asked about adding a bustle he again flat out said "NO" and that it was impossible because the dress was "too heavy." However, upon taking the dress to another tailor I was offered two options for a bustle which indicates to me that he simply did not want to do the work. 4. When we came to the final fitting, he didn't even offer for me to try on the dress, and essentially rushed us out of the shop before we could even look at it. I thought that he would have wanted me to see his final work, but considering how poor the quality of his service was I'm not surprised he didn't want me to try on the dress. In addition, I will say at that point I knew I was taking it to another tailor and already made the choice that I wasn't going to bother trying to get him to do anymore work on the dress so I didn't really want to try it on at his shop in the first place. Overall, I am very disappointed with the quality of his work and service. While he did significantly resize the dress, my expectation was that it would be fitted to me which it was not (the dress was given to us at least two inches too large), so I left GQ Custom Tailor feeling insulted at his comments and upset with his work. I believe that he could have taken the dress in more and added a bustle but simply did not want to do the work despite being paid to do so. I wish that he had simply told us he didn't have the expertise to work on a dress like this in the first place and it would have saved me a lot of time and money. read more

They are prompt and deliver excellent quality. I had my daughters bat mitzvah, and the dress came late and it was way oversized. It was a very complicated alteration, and they did an excellent job. Based on the high review, I brought one suit jacket, and another suit jacket with a vest for tailoring. The two suits are tailor-made overseas, but are a little too wide around the mid-section. The tailor indicated that he would take in a few inches around the mid section for a proper fit. When I picked them up, the mid section was a little bit slimmer. However, when the tailor took in the mid section, he did not make any corresponding adjustment in the shoulders. As a result, there is a wrinkle on the shoulder of the vest and the suit jacket (the first jacket was better). When my fiancé pointed out the wrinkle, the tailor indicated that it would be an additional cost to fix the vest. Overall, I am very disappointed at the tailor's workmanship and professionalism. I would NOT recommend this place, and will look for a new tailor elsewhere. read more

I apologize to anyone who thought my previous reviews were hurtful or offensive. I did not mean it to be hurtful in any way. With that said, I have to write this review because I care about my hometown and the people who I grew up around, so when a business does something that isn't right, I have to write about it. So here it goes, and please don't remove it again because I really put effort into writing this: We came here because of all the 5-star Yelp reviews. We brought a dress that we wanted to be altered, just one size smaller. The master seamstress took the dress and said it shouldn't be a problem. He then started snipping and clipping off the short dress (because he thought it was supposed to be a long dress). After cutting and snipping, he realized it was actually a short dress. We asked him if he was going to be able to put it back to the way it came. He didn't respond. We kindly showed him a picture of how the dress originally looked. He seemed like a nice guy, and we felt bad, so we suggested wearing the dress first. After putting on the dress, he looked back and forth between the dress and the picture of the dress, and tried fixing it. There were also some inappropriate things he did, but I don't need to mention them here. After 30 minutes, he gave up, and then charged us almost $100 for the alteration only. He then said fixing the part he had damaged was very easy and it shouldn't cost us anything. We wondered then, why he wasn't able to fix it, if it were so easy? We picked up our dress and left. I believe that for simple alterations on simple clothes, he wouldn't have a problem fixing it. But I would think twice before bringing that expensive dress or suit. I am giving him one star because of his attitude, his inappropriate behaviour, and how he handled the situation. If a business ruins your dress, at least you would expect them to feel responsible. In this case, GQ did no such thing. read more

Horrible experience here. I highly recommend you do not go there! They are not professional at all, not trustable at all and do not respect the clothes and customers. I went there to have a quote for alterations on my wedding dress, and it was a nightmare. When they took the dress to take some measurements, they dragged the dress on the floor and walked on ot with shoes. When I asked them to stop and be careful, they did not pay attention to my concerns and kept going. They did not apologize. I showed them a shoe stain that they just made and they laught and they told me it was ok and they can cut it. So I took back my dress, I looked at it closely, and realized that the dress was stained everywhere, on the body of the dress and train, with dark dirt and shoe stains. There were also blue marker stains. I showed the stains, telling them that the dress will need dry cleaning because of their unprofessional practices, but they said it did not happen in their store and did not acknowledge they walked on it, when 5 minutes ago they were telling me it was ok to walk on the dress. My dress was white and clean before I entered this place. Now, I will need to pay to clean it, and they do not want to pay for the damage they caused. I went to another tailor that was far more professional, and he told me that the part of the dress that were stained could not be cut without making the dress too short to be worn. He advised me to go back to G.Q Tailor to ask them to pay for the cleaning of the dress, and that they will not do any alterations before the dress got cleaned. I did go back to G.Q tailor. This all happened the same day, and I came back to G.Q tailor 1h after my first visit to their shop. When I started to explain why I was there they pretended to not recognize me. Not only did they keep denying the damage they caused and that they walked on the dress, but they refused to pay anything. Please think twice and do not go there. The price can appear inexpensive, but actually they do not respect the clothes and did damages. read more

Mr. Lee is an expert at his craft. I brought him two ill-fitting suits and walked out looking...well, GQ. Plus a meeting at the State Department came up, so he finished them in half the time. Prices were extremely reasonable for a tailor in the US market- two suits for less than $200. I am SO excited to have found GQ custom tailors! I needed a dress to be hemmed for a destination wedding and had a very short window to get it done- but Mr. Lee said he'd be able to get it done in time. He was kind and very professional while pinning my dress, and triple-checked to make sure that the length was just right. The day before I was scheduled to pick up my dress- weather reports predicted a huge snowstorm, so I panicked and called to see if by some miracle my dress was ready- and indeed it was. I'm new to the area and needed to find a good tailor. Long story short, Mr. Lee did a fantastic job altering my new off the rack tuxedo from Joseph Bank. As I'm a big guy (size 52) and have had terrible experiences with in-house store department store alterations in the past, I needed it done right the first time. Mr. Lee had it done perfectly the first time and the work was ready on time, one day before the fancy correspondents' dinner I had to attend. I had to have a bridesmaid dress fixed for a wedding, and it was no easy job- the dress place ordered the wrong dress and it was the wrong size. GQ worked wonders- the dress looked just like the other girls' when they were done, only required the one fitting (meaning that I didn't have to go back at all- it was done correctly on the first shot), and most importantly, was done on time.
