My wife has been looking for somewhere to get her hair DID as well as our daughter's. Where we live the rates can be ASTRONOMICAL. At the Cutting Edge the rates are fair and Lupita S. was straightforward, fast and efficient. I do believe the old stylist my wife was frequenting just got kicked to the curb. Yes, the shop can use a little TLC and it is an excursion to get there from Rancho Mirage but it was well worth the effort. We were extremely satisfied with the results. Moved to the desert and had been dissapointed elsewhere and my girlfriend recommended this place . She had been coming here for years and is always very pleased with the service as well as her results of her hair. Her hair always looks so beautifully well layered ,healthy and full. I am a person with very thick hair and have stubborn gray hair that never seems to want to cover. Well ,I took my girlfriends advice and used her same lady by the name of ( Elena). she was very nice ,well knowledgeable and let's just say the outcome was beautiful and I was well satisfied! !!!! Five stars to Blanca, I live 75 miles away from Cutting edge (over an hour drive) and I will go to her from now on! She is the ONLY hairstylist I have ever been to that was smiling and actually happy about cutting hair. I mean she was smiling the whole time! I been to high end and hole in the walls and I never met someone like her. The cut was amazing, my husband loved it my cut was pretty drastic from long to a bob. She showed me what she was doing with a mirror plenty of times throughout the whole process which I appreciated the interaction. I would recommend Blanca to anyone reading this! The other ladies in there at the time were rude and seemed to be annoyed they were working, I don't know what it is but that's your profession of choice, you chose that industry...you went to school and got licensed you did a lot of hard work, don't look so upset lol. It leaves a bad impression overall. I went on a Friday morning there was two ladies getting their hair cut when I walked in one from Blanca one by another, when the first lady finished I had to wait for Blanca even though the other two ladies weren't doing anything but talking to each other by this point. It wasn't busy at all I think I was in there over an hour and no one else came in until I was ready to pay so don't act like your too busy. I'm glad they made me wait for her in the end. I was showing Blanca a pic of the cut i liked and another stylist in there chimed in telling me that "I would have to style my hair to get it to look that way" ummm ya no shit... I don't expect to wake up every morning and have my hair perfectly styled curls and all...... I never expect to show a stylist a picture and expect the EXACT same cut, I was just showing the style I wanted something similar to. When I went in April it was cash only no cards not sure if its changed since then so something to keep in mind. I'll be returning soon to get my hair trimmed by Blanca. read more

This is probably the worst experience I've had when getting my hair done. I've never left so irritated and frustrated. I went in to have my mohawk bleached, I've done this before at another location, and my hair ended up THREE different colors. There was no color in my hair prior to either. The woman who did my hair, Lupe, left the ends of my hair until the very end and then rinsed my hair before giving it time to fully pull and turn blonde. Ultimately I left with the ends of my hair an orange color, my roots bleach blonde, and the middle of my hair a shade of green. Not to mention the sides of my hair were patchy because she got bleach on places that were not to be touched. Not realizing how tore up my hair was, I paid and left. Needless to say, I will NEVER be back here nor will I recommend this place to someone. I really wish I didn't pay and went somewhere else. read more

I was really disappointed with the haircut I received from a lady named Calderon (last name), but after a few days I'm now thankful for the haircut she gave me. She took out a lot of dead hair and it was a shock. Now, I want to thank her, because it looks really healthy. I know it will take some time to grow out, but it will grow out better than before. I called here 3 times to make an appointment for a shampoo blow dry on Black Friday and all 3 times someone told me I didn't need to make an appointment all I had to do was walk in, I asked to still make an appointment so whoever I spoke with made it for 1:30, I showed up and the place was closed and the lights are off. The "open" sign is still on. I could have made an appointment somewhere else but everywhere else is booked now. I was also dropped off so I now have to uber home. I do not recommend this place they are flaky and unreliable! read more

Let me start by saying I will try and keep this review short but it is over due so it might get lengthy. I have been getting my hair cut/ styled/ colored by Lupita Sanchez since 2005 in Indio, CA although I live in San Diego. Let me tell you the 2 hour drive is worth it, I have yet to be disappointed. My only complaint is here ever growing clientele list which keeps her busy and does not allow me the luxury of calling her for a last minute appointment. That being said she always goes out of her way to accommodate her clients and keep them happy. I have witnessed Lupita working on multiple colors and still taking hair cuts just to make sure her clients needs are met... she is a true master of not only hair but multi tasking as well. I made the mistake a couple years ago of trying to replace Lupita because I figured it was time to find a hairdresser in my area... that was a complete disaster which i don't think i will ever recuperate from. Thankfully Lupita was able to save my hair and get it back in shape. read more

I hate being negative, but my experience there yesterday was not good. I was in desperate need of a haircut and couldn't get in to see my regular stylist at a different salon. The woman that cut my hair literally didn't listen to a word I said in terms of what style cut I wanted. I even showed her pics of myself with the style haircut I wanted. She preceded to say that the picture must have been my brother and scoffed at the notion that it was indeed me. To add insult to injury this stylist then shaved my sideburns off. Keep in mind I have a beard, so you can imagine how great that now looks. By far one of the worst experiences I've ever had In a salon. Stylist must listen to their clients. It's literally a partnership and if the stylist isn't comfortable with what the client wants, than that should be conveyed up front. Learn from this feedback and don't ever disregard the input given by a client prior to cutting their hair. read more

I wanted a change of look, so I decided to try cutting edge withy hair. I walked in with long black hair into the salon and left in tears. First of all, I asked for a straight mid length haircut and some sunkissed lights in my hair but before she colored my hair I explained to the stylist I still wanted to keep mostly all of my hair dark. I explained that I wanted very small sections of highlights throughout my hair but nothing too noticeable. I even showed her a picture, which she assured me she could do. Prior to her starting the process I informed her my hair had been dyed black for years and yet she continued to assure me that she knew exactly what I wanted. She began to cut my hair first. She then proceeded to tease, bleach, and wrap my hair in foils. After what seemed like hours, she sat me down on a chair with a hot dryer... I don't really know exactly how long I sat there but it felt like hours. Every so often she checked my hair but would state that the bleach was not lightning my hair enough and so she proceeadd to add more bleach. Several times I told her my head was hurting and it was too hot but would tell me it shouldn't take much longer. When she finally decided to wash my hair and tone it. I could hear her breathing hard as if she was nervous. She then took me back to her station and that's when I noticed my hair looked like over cooked noodles. On top of that, she had bleached a little more than half of the bottom part of my hair leaving the top portion of my hair black. Furthermore, my hair was breaking off as she attempted to brush it out. I told her it was not what I asked for, but she said it looked nice from the back. My hair was 4 colors but mainly had bright orange and copper tones. I told her I couldn't show up to work with that hair color, so she took me back to the washing chair area and proceeded to add more toner/dye. The second time I went back to her station as she began brushing hair again, huge chunks of hair were falling on the floor and in my lap. Being that my hair was in poor shape I asked her to trim it again and in her attempt to fix it she cut 3 more inches as well as adding layers, which I had previously told her I did not want. All throughout the process I expressed my worry and she said with nervousness in her voice that it wasn't that bad. In her poor attempt to calm me down she gave me a tiny glass bottle of placenta which she indicated was normally $10 dollars, but she was giving it to me for free because she said it would help repair the damage. After all that she did she charged me $130. Not once did she apologize for her mistakes. This was the most horrible experience I have ever endured in a salon. Think twice before you go there. read more
