We have 2 large senior dogs that are 15 and 11. Both have hip and spine issues as they get older. They had been doing rehab at another place for over a year and we hadn't really seen results. They had been doing laser, massage, land exercises and water treadmill there every week, and then every other week. They did not really look forward to it. One dog would float sideways in the water to show her opinion. One day the long drive and traffic got to be too much for the dogs and me, so I started looking for a closer rehab. I happened upon Trish and Cutting Edge K9. My vet said she had heard good things about Trish. So we scheduled an apppointment. We filled out the forms, got the vaccination proof from our vet (it says which ones on the forms online), washed and brushed them and arrived ready to swim. My dogs are a bit scared of dogs due to whatever upbringing they had in the 6 years before I adopted them and I explained the way they are to Trish and she was understanding and accomodating. We just move the dogs this way or that to not directly pass whatever dog is leaving or arriving. Some others are scared too. Trish has dog water safety jackets of various sizes to wear and lowered each dog into the pool with a specialized dog pool elevator. The first time she was in the pool with them, but in following lessons they were just assisted with a leash. The first few times it was solo swim, but Trish suggested they swim together and one day I agreed. It was a favorite moment in a long time to see them swim together. They were so happy swimming with a buddy. As for results, we saw results within a few swims. We have been going weekly for a few months now. It seemed unreal, but after two classes they were not only moving better at home, but they were actually enjoy swimming class. The dog who would float protest in the water treadmill is a fantastic pool swimmer. In the pool, she doesn't protest, but does laps - sometimes big laps, sometime little laps. Our other dog couldn't go down our front stairs for the past year, just went down our front stairs a few weeks ago and kept doing it. After class, they are amped up for about an hour or so from having so much fun at class. They are so hungry too! We bundle them up in towels and then they sleep hard. When they wake, we dry them with a dog blowdryer as they are furry water sponges, but we had to dry them after water treadmill, so no big difference there. Trish is friendly and professional. She notices when they are walking better or not. If you have dog questions, she probably has the answers. She makes sure you get the full time for the class. After the swim, she will schedule for the next week while we leash and do a quick dry. The next dog sometimes arrives 5 to 10 minutes early, but they wait in the "grassy" area. I encourage anyone who has a dog to look into this, not just senior dogs or rehab dogs. I wish we had found Trish sooner. read more

I was referred to Cutting Edge K9 by our veterinarian when our German Shepherd Kara began having difficulties with the arthritis in her spine, and in her back legs. She did not like to swim. I recently turned to Trish again with my chocolate Labrador Decker. He had TPLO and MPL surgeries on his back right leg. Bringing my yellow lab Daisy to Cutting Edge K9 was one of the best things I ever did for her. Our 15 month old female Douge de Bordeaux (Kinzi) had to have surgery due to angular limb deformity. After a very long 7 weeks of limited mobility we were referred to Trish Penick and Cutting Edge K9 Rehab. Also suggesting that Kinzi's twin brother, Rooney, would benefit too due to his large body mass and joint inflammation. I'm so disappointed after my bulldog's session with Trish on Tuesday. I had really high hopes for his visit and was intending on becoming a long term client, especially since all of the other hydrotherapy providers are so far away from where I live. Trish was cold, unapproachable, and barely said hello to my little guy (or me), nor did she make any effort to get acquainted with him so that he would feel comfortable working with her, which any person who has or works with animals knows it of utmost importance. Furthermore, SHE DIDN"T EVEN GET IN THE WATER WITH HIM! She strapped on a life vest with a leash attached and drug him with the leash into the pool while he clawed at the concrete for dear life. She gave no information and asked no questions about why I brought him. It was the strangest experience meeting someone (who provides a service) and having them say nearly nothing to you except for "so when do you want to come back?". My dog had never been to any kind of swim or water therapy before, and not knowing anything about it (or getting any info or feedback from her), I asked if his session was how it normally goes. Her blunt response-"What do you mean? He went in the water and swam, didn't he?". I actually had to backpedal to get her to quit being defensive so I could get a straight answer without the horrid attitude. I was shocked at my experience, I find it so hard to believe that she has any return clients. The session I went to was in her backyard, and the few words she did say to me were about her dogs that were in the backyard as well, one of which kept interfering with my dog and me while we were trying to figure out what was going on. It honestly felt like she doesn't care about her reputation because she knows she is the only person that does what she does around here, so she just sits back and collects money (and a lot of it!). Horrible, horrible experience. I left wanting to cry because I was so upset about what happened and knowing how important swim therapy is for my bulldog's long term health but not having any other place to go. Since then, I've found another provider that my dog just loves, and I will happily be making the drive to Oceanside from downtown San Diego every week so he can swim there. read more

I rescued a 6 year old male Rottweiler in July, 2016. He was 93 pounds and had apparently been couped up in a small room since he was a puppy. Reportedly he was only used for breeding. Initially he was weak, unable to walk well. Basically he did a 'grasping/breast stroke.' With Trish's help... after about 7 sessions, he was swimming and stroking powerfully and now has a free flowing normal gait and even a 'spring in his step.' My wife and I were referred to Trish Pennick and Cutting Edge K9 Rehab by our vet, Dr. Scott Carhart, in 2000 after our dog had two ACL surgeries and was in the recovery process. Trish was very hands on with her P/T for our dog and in a short time she started to recover from her injuries. Over time, we continued to take her for visits 3-4 times a month to maintain her health and deal with arthritis. In the Spring of 2006 Trish noticed a growth in our dog's nose, which turned out to be cancerous. We were fortunate that at age 8, she came through this surgery and continued a very happy and healthy life. Absolutely the BEST thing I could have done for my dog! We have a 10 month old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever named Luna who fell into our pool at 3 months and was very fearful of the water, both in the pool and at Fiesta Island. And tollers are water dogs! On a recommendation from Luna's breeder, we went to Trish for "swim lessons." Trish was able to break through Luna's fear of water by a good command of the dog, encouraging words, and participation from me. After only 4 lessons, Luna was on her way - and then last week, at Fiesta Island, my little toller went after a ball in the water and hasn't looked back since!
