Medium size CVS Pharmacy located in the heart of South Pasadena, this CVS does a nice job of stocking essentials along with disposables effectively. It is organized as one large square and the signs above are visible enough to see where you need to go. We had some time to kill, so made note of some things that I have not noticed at other CVS before. - hands-on ear piercing: nobody was manning the booth, but it looks like it is operational. Of course it is not very private, so wondering how the experience goes, especially for really young children. - there was a section dedicated to Claire's products. It does look like the teenage accessory retailer formed a partnership with CVS in 2017. - there were still some products locked down, but nearly as much as other CVS that we frequent. - the alcohol aisle was blocked off even though it was the afternoon. - the checkout lines were set-up to encourage the use of the self-checkout lines, with only one queue servicing it and the manned register.

The front from Arroyo. Beautiful end of the sunset sky!

My review is based off of walking to the store and picking up little things. I also have not used the pharmacy. I often use Tmobile's Tuesday deals for free photo prints at the nearest participating CVS and I walk here to pick them up. The cashier who has helped me the last two times has always been really friendly. Today, she was extra cheery and helpful! I really appreciated her attentiveness and willingness to help me. And I now hold my 10 free prints happily and content :0]

Called Jose, who spoke with Manager. Manager comes on the phone. "under staffed,"

I didn't go to the actual pharmacy part of the store so this is for the main drugstore, but I had…read moresuch a lovely interaction this evening! I went in, mostly just for contact solution, but as I always end up doing when I'm in the CVS, I definitely roamed the aisles and ended up with way more than I bargained for! For one thing, and this is mostly across all CVS locations, I love the store. Some of their things can be expensive, but I live walking to a different location, and I find that when you're a consistent shopper, there are always an abundance of coupons and opportunities to save some dollars. And the convenience is worth it to me. For example, tonight my total was about $64 or so. By the time I had added all of my coupons and signed up for their monthly program, I paid less than $40. Sami helped me out and he was so lovely and kind! He helped me reactivate my ExtraCare membership. I ran in quickly initially without my card since they take Apple Pay, but I needed the physical card to activate my membership. It was truly no issue to run out for my card but he profusely apologized for the inconvenience. Sami was just so friendly and kept up the good natured conversation during our whole interaction whilst still maintaining good efficiency. Overall I left in the least amount of time but feeling completely taken care of. I feel like this is kind of across all locations, but specifically this store did not feel super well stocked. I don't really think that's their fault though. That kind of seems to be the model across most locations. But I will say this specific CVS had a lot more buttons around the store to call the staff since a lot of items are locked up now. My usual CVS definitely doesn't have as many as it needs and it can feel frustrating trying to get help. I needed something today and found an accessible button, and a staff member came very quickly to assist me. Overall, a 10 out of 10, and next time I'm in the area I would definitely stop back here again!

Understaffed, always busy. Sometimes it'll take me 20 min to pick up meds. Skip it if you can!read more

Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain - YELLOW BRICK ROAD SUNDAE: Mint Chocolate Chip, hot fudge, whipped cream, lime syrup, yellow LEGO bricks

Behind the…read moreWhatchamacallits, near the Bottle Caps, past the Bit o' Honey, Yellow Cab-checkered Abba-Zabbas, Charleston Chews, next to the Wax Lips and Fun Dips, and by those explosive Pop Rocks. And yes, I can go on and on with a list of retro candies, but trust me, there's a good candy selection ranging from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even as early as the 1920s (hint: Boston Baked Beans). You'll also find cool old school vintage gift ideas displayed on their shelves, like authentic tin toys, old fashioned candies, gag gifts, candles, and cards. Besides every candy imaginable and nostalgic games, there's a charming ice cream counter with retro bar seats, fresh soda flavors for unique creations, and a good selection of sundaes. I was feeling adventurous on that particular afternoon so I ordered the YELLOW BRICK ROAD SUNDAE. It's made with Mint Chocolate Chip, hot fudge, whipped cream, lime syrup, and yellow LEGO bricks. If I order this again, I'm skipping the lime syrup -- it's as awkward as one of those weird jello mold recipes from the 1950s. The LEGO bricks are cute and taste like Smarties only much, much harder. My friend ordered the simple FUDGE SUNDAE and it didn't disappoint. It had a good amount of fudge drizzled on top too. And the ice cream cones put smiles on the other kiddos' faces. Probably because the ice cream itself is creamy and premium tasting. As for the historical scoop: Fair Oaks Pharmacy has gone through a few name and design changes since its establishment. Open for more than a century along Route 66, it was first called the South Pasadena Pharmacy in 1915, then the Raymond Pharmacy in the 20's and 30's. This mom & pop shop finally found its permanent name in the early 40's, which brings us to the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, still open today in 2026. In fact, this year it'll turn 111 years old, so let's all make a wish that Fair Oaks Pharmacy stays open for another century more.

If this place goes out of business, I'll be really upset with the owners!…read more 1. No public restroom so they send me to Starbucks across the street (lining the pockets of Starbucks, which is actually very smart business and they sell far more than just sugary drinks, they're actually a bank, look it up.) 2. The hours make no sense - it's only open during regular peoples work hours (9-5 weekdays), including the pharmacy, which I wanted to switch my regular medication to, but decided not to because it's just too inconvenient. I really like the idea of supporting a classic Americana style ice cream and pharmacy combination business, but it's unfair to offload that responsibility onto customers and expect them totally inconvenience themselves. I suppose American history can perish... Fine!
