Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. Sure, they have the basics like snacks, cosmetics, etc, but what tickled me were the ducky plushies in cowboy and beaver hats. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

They did have several options for charging blocks but I ended up getting a power bank so I could charge my phone while walking around. Upon receiving change, having paid in cash, the register continuously tried to complete the transaction, in releasing of my due change. However, for whatever reason it merely rambled on until I waved for the associate attending the area of the self-checkouts, wo was watching the whole time but made no gestures to walk over and assist me until I waved her over... I told her the machine still owed me a nickel but was rumbling on and on, in not releasing the nickel. She merely replied, "Humm, I see." Finally, the machine spit out a receipt tape reading ERROR in owing me still a nickel. Standing there, looking lost in what to say or do, she asked me, "Do you still want your nickel?" I replied "Yes, it's my money." She then signed her name on the receipt and told me I had to go up to the Customer Service desk for it. After a waiting behind three other customers, and then once at the desk, having to wait of the ginger-grey haired associate working the area alone, to put up some merchandise into some bins, in which she made no hurry in doing... she then walk back up to the counter and merely said, "Yes?" I told her about the situation and what the associate at the self-checkout said, handing her the signed receipt. She then grabbed a dime she had laying on her register and said, "here." I replied "fine" taking the dime and then told her I needed my receipt back and took it for proof of my purchases. She could tell I was annoyed with her in manners and unprofessionalism and only than as I was already walking off offered an apology to in in saying only, "sorry about that." I continued walking away, not replying, or looking back. Addedly, while shopping in purchasing Lodge brand frying pan, when I checked out, it rang up $5.00 higher than the shelf price. I did not bother in making a fuss about this as I wanted the item. But also, while shopping in the men's wear, in looking over the "No Boundaries" merchandise, I could not find a price tag anywhere and any of the garments there of t-shirts, short, hoodies, etc. throughout the whole display at all. There was not even overhead pricing or advertising for the brand name. And it was obviously not a display having been recently set up. There were obvious signs of the garments having been shopped through. In conclusion it is sad to see that not only has Walmart fallen short from its days of proper signing, pricing of merchandise, stocking items in their properly place... but more than anything is the lacking of customer service in merely showing respect, professionalism, and manners is something David Glass, Mark Schwartz and Sam Walton himself would have NOT tolerated. But I guess, for better or worse, the lack of accountability now found throughout our society, Walmart too, has jumped on broad that bandwagon clearly -for the worse.

There's another one close by that's even closer to the river that you can only get in by way of the Riverwalk. This CVS only has a streetside entrance. I don't know what the world record is for the smallest CVS pharmacy, but this is definitely one of the smaller ones out there, so you can imagine the lack of variety in their merchandise. It's mostly snacks inside, but you'll find a few other non-food items in the rear of the shop. However, it's not very well-maintained. I came in three times during my stay in San Antonio. One just to browse around, and two to purchase a snack. On my first trip, the store was empty, and I saw two employees working at the front. On my second trip, the store had a handful of customers, but I didn't recognize an employee until he went up to the front minutes later to service a customer. I was looking around for a small snack, but I was kind of disappointed in what they had. Not that I'm comparing this to the Buc-ee's in New Braunfels, but there are a handful of snacks I would remember at other CVS locations that I couldn't find here. So the small snack I was planning to get had to be a little larger than I expected, which meant spending a little more. I got a Cheetos popcorn, which was the last one they had in stock the evening I went. That was the only item I recall that I hadn't seen before at any CVS. There might have been others, but the Cheetos popcorn was the most noticeable to me. However, upon checkout, I noticed some milk cartons lying on a table, not inside a refrigerator. I touched them, and they weren't even cold at all! Such a small store, but nobody realized the milk that's going to go bad real soon or has gone bad already? And speaking of checkout, if not for the two self-checkout stands at the front of the store, you might be waiting a while for an employee to ring you up, especially if they are assisting other customers. I made another visit on my last week here, and I was the only customer in the store at the time. There were two employees, but neither greeted me or offered to help. I wanted to get an ice cream sandwich, but the price tags were missing on a lot of them! I had to use the coupon scanner to find out the price of them. So inefficient and annoying to have to run back and forth just to find out the prices. I used the self-checkout again because I didn't think the employees were in a mood to ring me up. My suspicion was confirmed when one of them simply glanced at me without a word as I walked out the door with zero intention to make a return visit. If you're looking to make a (hopefully) quick stop to pick up a snack, and you happen to be in the immediate vicinity, this CVS will at least be there to answer your call. Otherwise, I would recommend going to some other CVS, like the other one with the Riverwalk entrance.

There's even a blood pressure machine to test where you're at. Fortunately, thanks to HEB, I'm as cool as a cucumber. The pharmacy here is always is good communication to let me know if things are ready to be picked up or how long it's going to take to get my drugs flowin'. The pharmacist is always good about walking me through the way to take it (usually orally). If you hate your medicine, there's certain types of it that they can mix in colored flavors! Nom! They have their own little drug store area in the side of the HEB that fronts the pharmacy that has generic brands of just about everything. There's also some dieting stuff in there too, but I don't pay attention to that!

Did you know that you can legally drink alcohol out in the open along the Riverwalk? You can't have an open container while walking around at street level, but on the river, it's all good! One option would be to get a drink at the local bars, which tends to be expensive, and they're not generally happy with you running off with their glassware. Therefore, going to Lucky's is always a good option! You can grab a quart or a tallboy here, get it in the paper bag if you insist on drinking on street level, but you don't need it for the Riverwalk! Drink up, buddy! This place seems to sell a lot of crap! They have a variety of San Antonio souvenirs- t-shirts, hats, and such. I didn't see anything I needed. When I went, there were a couple of homeless folks in here. One was buying a fake rose packaged in a glass tube, and steel wool. Hmmm... The beer was cold, but they didn't have the sizes that I'd prefer for drinking on the Riverwalk. Buying a six pack rarely makes sense when you can keep buying individual beers, since the six-pack will get warm in the Texas heat quickly. There are better options around here for what you wanna get from here- there's a Walgreens down the street, and a CVS down the river. There's zero parking for this place.
