After a rather disappointing meal at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen just off the 10 freeway, I hopped on the 1604 east to stop by H-E-B. Truthfully speaking, I was intending to stop at the H-E-B at Northwoods, right by the 281. Once I saw an H-E-B while driving on the outer loop, I immediately exited, thinking it was the Northwoods H-E-B, but turns out I was actually at an H-E-B Plus! I had always known about H-E-B during my stay in San Antonio, but this was the first time I ever saw an H-E-B Plus! What was the plus for?! As soon as I looked at the storefront, I immediately thought of Fred Meyer in Washington state, quite the absurdity since I live in California, but seriously, it almost felt like I was at Costco, minus the samples they try to give out like hot cakes. The store was so vast and spacious that I could tell what the plus was for. They even had a small pizza shop inside called South Flo, which I thought stood for South Florida, but nope! It's a pizzeria that can only be found in H-E-B, which is only found in Texas and maybe Mexico. I did find it odd they had one self-checkout stand right by one entrance/exit, but by another two entryways, there are way more stands, either self-checkout or with a cashier. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this? I really only came in looking for a snack to munch on at work the next day, but it took a long time for me to find that snack. Like I said, the store was so huge that you could make this store your one-stop shop for all your needs, including clothing! Yes, they do have clothing at this grocery store. What don't they have?! They even have a gardening section, which could compete with Lowes, just on the other side of The Village at Blanco, the name of this plaza where this H-E-B Plus is located in. The layout of the store was pretty confusing and hard to navigate. I didn't see a map anywhere, and with such a large store, a map would have made things a lot easier, though they do have sections of the store labeled properly. The floors were a little slick, but also looked a little antiquated. Luckily, I did find a snack for the following day: H-E-B Nacho Cheese chips, which are a store brand of Doritos Nacho Cheese. It was on a shelf directly in front of the self-checkout registers, which were a breeze to use. Don't forget to look at the coupon dispensers after checking out! You might find a nice coupon in there that the previous customer left for you. Overall, a pretty nice H-E-B to go to, and with it being a plus is definitely another plus! I'm glad I stopped at the wrong store so I could get a feel for what an H-E-B Plus is like! There's also a nice dining area by South Flo Pizza where you can enjoy your pizza or other meals you just purchased from inside the store. Microwaves are included as well! :) read more

Generally I do recommend this store. Though I have a few specific issues with what I am seeing lately. I bought a container of blueberries from Peru and they were unbelievably good. So the next time I was in the store I bought a larger container of what I thought were the same ones, although my wife told me they were from Peru but not the same company. Regardless, they were horrible, soft and mushy and terrible flavor. I paid just under $9.00 I believe and I tossed them. Bought a bunch of good looking, mostly green bananas and they were rotten in two days. This type of thing has been happening too much with fruit so I will more than likely begin buying fruit somewhere else. Bread - Used to be you could buy fresh bread and it was always fresh. Now you have to watch very closely. They seem to be making bread later in the day and putting it out the next day. The bread all the way in the back will be the freshest, the stuff in front can be two days old. AND the price is the same for two day old as it is for fresh same day. I am starting to buy bread from a local bakery instead of HEB. I was at the store yesterday and it seems to me that they are carrying less brands and more HEB brand items. That's fine if you like their brand but less choices for customers. Prices seemed to be coming down and now they're up again and inflation and transportation costs don't seem to be the answer. read more

This has been our "go to" grocery store! It is conveniently located in the Stone Oak Area near Blanco Road. We enjoy being able to get affordable groceries, hot ready to eat/oven ready foods such as pizza, sushi, family meals, etc. We also enjoy being able to buy household appliances like a coffee maker, air fryer, rice cooker, etc all at this location. I recommend the oven ready margherita pizza and the Alfredo penne pasta to pop in the oven at home for a quick meal. read more

I highly recommend this H‑E‑B in the area! They have so many things to choose from, including unique products you can't find anywhere else. They have a bakery and tortilla factory! Great prices. They have a sushi section and the poke bowl was perfect! It was not overly filled with rice like other places do. It's very clean and organized! This HEB and the one over at Evans Road used to be our more frequent stops for grocery shopping. Now, our go-to is The Market at Stone Oak HEB because of proximity and convenience. A couple of weeks ago, I saw an article that featured several HEBs that were serving South Flo pizza on a happy hour deal. The happy hour is available at this HEB among others from 4pm - 7pm. The deal includes a 16-inch South Flo pizza and 2 drinks for $10. Drink choices include select draft beers, canned beers, wine, and newly-added sodas. My neighbor and I got the pepperoni 16-inch pizza and 2 beers. She got the Peroni beer and I had the Freak Power beer. We both enjoyed the pizza, beers, and each other's company. I love this HEB Plus! All of the staff there are so so friendly and nice !!! Also I love their pharmacy team, I had some issues with school vaccine requirement for my clinical before and they were able to help me out. The pharmacists who gave me my vaccines are all so nice and friendly!! Also whenever I can't find the OCT meds I would just be in line and ask the pharmacist or staff and they are very helpful and patient with me. I also love the food tasting staff, I think they even recognize me already and the food that they made is all amazing! Also all the cashiers are friendly and easy to talk to! Also this HEB is very clean and big that's why I go there every week. read more

I love this HEB but this evening I am appalled at their customer service. After shopping, my daughter and I went to the checkout and an elderly man was in front of us in one of the riding carts. He was having issues loading his groceries onto the belt. The checker and the bagger never offered to help him so my daughter stepped up and offered to help him. He accepted the help. After he paid for his groceries, neither the bagger or the cashier offered assistance to his vehicle. My daughter further offered to help him to his vehicle with his groceries which he accepted. I understand that HEB is extremely busy and has a lot of patrons. However, I find it ridiculous that my daughter, who is another patron of Heb had to assist this gentleman when you had H-E-B employees there that could've done the same and offered nothing. I might add, on my way out to the parking lot with my groceries. I witnessed at least three H-E-B employees that appeared to be baggers scrolling on their phones and not paying attention to the needs of their guests. I'm a longtime customer, HEB needs to step up their training. read more

This was a very nice clean neat and well organized grocery store. I have one complaint is. Bagging of my groceries. Frozen and refrigerated items were mixed with dry items. Bags were heavy with cans and jars not doubled and yes you guessed it broke. I usually watch and try to bag myself however I thought since this was a plus store they would be more familiar with bagging practices. I will give another try but I will bag myself. read more

I wanted to stop throwing money away and decided on pre made foods. HEB on Blanco has both premade and already cooked meals. The ones I have to cook are great. Meals that are good, especially the salmon, are flavorful and easy to cook. All done within 20 minutes. I cook them before work and transfer to a microwave bowel. Filling too. Now no big preps, no left over, no wasted food. I grt to choose what I want. Unlike those order by mail food programs. I typically add fruit or another vegetable, complete meal. I control calories too. No contracts too. read more

This heb is literally the worst. Most unfriendly employees ever. About a month ago one of their checkout people told me to stop having kids (I had my three kids with me there at the time). I wrote an email to customer service and they gave me the most lackluster response. I expect more from a place that I spend hundreds of dollars a week. read more

What can I say? Before I even came to Texas I heard about this amazing grocery store that was only in Texas that everyone loved. I've been a Costco member for years so I didn't really care at the time. Now after moving to Texas and visiting HEB several times I am an absolute lover of this place. It's huge, it's clean, it has what I need, prices are fantastic, staff is amazing, and there are locations everywhere! I love how there are always samples to try and Smiles to see. The rest of the country will just have to hear about the amazing H-E-B in Texas... glad I'm here to see it though. read more

This is my favorite H-E-B out of all the ones I've been to in San Antonio. It's big, usually has everything I need in stock, & I love curbside pickup! The reason I'm giving this review a four & not a five star review is due to the lack of cashiers upon checkout. On days where there isn't much traffic I can understand why there may be only 2-3 cashiers, but on days when they're busy (like Sundays) I wish there would be a little more mindfulness of how many cashiers they have available. Especially for those who typically only buy a couple items, but have to be waiting behind the regular lines where people are usually loading up on groceries. Other than that complaint I really love the staff at this HEB. I haven't encountered any rude employees & have even enjoyed some of my conversations with the ladies from the bakery. read more

You can improve your experience by having people that work in the department that have some sort of customer service and kindness unlike SARAH. This employee SARAH threatened to put my groceries that I paid for back. She was standing at our car with bag and cancel our order after it's already been fulfilled and we've already been waiting for 30 minutes. The manager was called and she was very kind and did try to resolve and apologize for our weight but the associate SARAH I hope to never see you again because she was absolutely terrible. I had to explain to my children that were in the car witnessing her bad behavior that that's not how we treat people, so maybe she needs to work behind-the-scenes and not work with other people because I will absolutely never come back to this H-E-B because of this experience. I hope that no one else experiences SARAH and her terrible rude attitude like my family did today, when we're simply trying to get our groceries. read more

I went to quick check out with two items. I was having problems but the guy wouldn't come over to help. I finally asked him to help. he told me to swipe the card even though it had a chip. that didn't work and he pushed a couple of buttons and told me to try again. I swiped again and he told me I was doing it wrong and had t9 insert it. I told him he had told me to swipe before. he answered that I need to read what was on the screen and told me to stop being an ass. he did this in front of people and he didn't take into consideration I wear reading glasses so I was just following his lead. A miserable mecca for miserable people. This store is literally hell on earth and it is the direct fault of not only HEB but the over extended, anxious, Prozac popping, sitcom watching, chain restaurant loving, SUV soccer mom driving Stone Oakers. The clientele who shop here prove the clear difference between being an efficient and fast shopper and just being a plain asshole. People are so incredibly frustrated by the parking situation, store set up, long lines and clogged isles that they will literally run you down, knock you over, cut in front, drive erratically just to gain the extra few seconds, attain the closer spot or get to the shorter line. Items are stocked intentionally to have shoppers search and search again. Why are the OJ options in three different places? Why are the veggie burgers, veggie nuggets and such kept two isles from the very specific vegetarian frozen meals and burritos? Why are there two places for canned garbanzo beans, black beans and other varieties? Additionally, on a Saturday during the mid afternoon there were so many HEB employees on the floor, along with their ladders, racks and pallets full of merchandise and carts full of returns that they added a significant square footage coverage and isle blockage. My friend had our cart while I was on stroller duty and we found the store to be quite claustrophobic for such a gargantuan place. This HEB is simply transparent. I want to yell out...."I see what you are trying to do here! You are trying to get me to spend more time in your store, walk from one end to the other, spend more money, purchase items that are not on my grocery list!" Well HEB, that is not going to happen, because you can't get me to do any of those things if I never go back...and my last two visits have been more than enough to remind me why I despise HEB in the first place. read more

A grocery store chain seems like a boring thing to review, right? But this grocery store is totally different from your average spot to buy milk and eggs... Admittedly, I eat out more than I eat in these days so full-on grocery shopping isn't high on my list of priorities of late. But, what's great about HEB Plus! is the full cafe inside where you can get meals to-go in a pinch that taste homemade! And the bakery is great and will hook you your sweet tooth at a moment's notice with high quality sweets that taste like they came from a specialty baker. You will also find hand-rolled sushi made in front of you, freshly baked bread and a huge selection of fresh meat and seafood. What sets HEB Plus! apart from other grocery stores in town is the housewares, toys, kitchen gadgets, pharmacy, and plant nursery they also have available. And they stay committed to Texas a lot of the time and many of their vendors are based in our great state. They also have an amazing "health foods" section that really shines above many others in town. The novelty of this store is wearing off and now I just find myself shopping here because I like it. I was in San Antonio from Minneapolis There are these H.E.B. stores all over San Antonio, and I guess they own the San Antonio grocery market,, and I can see why. They have team members making fresh tortillas, fresh fish, tons of latino based food items. They have a huge electronics department. Just tons of stuff. Everywhere you looked, there was cool stuff. The service was great, and I was told during weekends, the place was completely packed. I was very much impressed. read more

I have to say, this HEB is by far one of the better HEB's in the area. I also have to say, the individuals who work here, are fantastic! They are so friendly, happy, enjoying their job, with perfect customer service. My complaint is with the managers of this store, or lack thereof for better words. The managers here honestly do not understand their customers. They think that it is perfectly acceptable to have customers in the express lanes, have 5-7 people ahead of them, at busy times of the day! Once confronted, the "managers" get blatantly rude, and upset, siting "they can't change anything"..... Whoever the GM of this store is, they need to reassess the "managers" they have working for them, who are ultimately, representing them. read more

Beyond disappointed! Do not shop at HEB. This is now the second time that I have bought meat that was no good. The first time was back in Mid September 2015, ground beef. It looked perfectly pink on the outside, but it was brown internally. I guess that would be the added coloring causing a "freshness deception." We chocked the first incident up as a fluke. But just this week, I bought salmon, potatoes and a few other groceries. Today October 31, 2015...not even two days later, I take it out to cook it and it's slimy with a stench. I take a good look and notice the base of the salmon fillets is brown...seriously!? More color additives. So I opt to make potatoes and go to the pantry. I pull out the potatoes and realize the bag is wet. I reach in to check out the tubers and I'll be damned my fingers almost slipped right thru. I've never experienced a rotted potato. I guess because I usually use them so quickly they've never rotted. Potatoes, bad in a week? I'm very done with throwing away my money at HEB. This is scary and unhealthy. Fresh? This HEB is above the rest with its elitist ways..but I like it and I'm addicted. Incredible variety of produce compared to other locations and with all the extra touches the other yelpers mentioned I can't help but choose this location over the rest. It just seems cleaner, fresher, and has a larger variety of organic items..and they have my Hansen's soda that I've had trouble finding. The bulk foods aisle is also good, with a variety of fresh peanut butter, my honey's favorite. They have a great selection of brews and wine to go with that fabulous dinner you're planning on making. Don't forget the electronics area that is tucked away in the back. They always have some blowyourmind deals going on back there. I do have to deduct a star for the insane parking/traffic jam that seems to be taking place everytime I go there. Very annoying to say the least so it's best to time your visit early in the day, but most likely it'll still be insane. I have been wanted to go to a HEB Plus since they started opening around town couple of years ago. So on Tuesday night with some time to burn, and nothing to do we decided lets go check out this HEB Plus. Upon entering I had the feeling I get when I enter any HEB. But, off the left I saw it the coolest thing that can be in a HEB a Gelato and Italian Ice bar. I took a double take, because I could not believe my eyes. I had a test tasted of all the flavors they were all good. After that we walked around some more. There are many departments at HEB Plus a big floral/gift department, books, housewares, electronics, wine, and furniture all in one store. It was like a super Wal-Mart only different. There was also section with some wall art/decorations for your house. We found a really cool piece of wall art for our living room that I didn't know we needed, but my wife knew we did. The place was busy, but we were able to get check out fairly fast. I know that I will return to HEB Plus, sooner than I think. read more

I still think it's weird that the entire city of San Antonio seems to only have one grocery chain, but I love me some HEB Plus stores. They are like a cross between a Costco and a Whole Foods. They have fresh sushi, an Italian tasting section and barbecue grills ... what?! Tortillas for days ... what?! Hot bar ... what?! Samples for days ... what?! Time to go shopping! read more

Esposa and I have lived all over this great country. We've shopped at dozens of grocery stores. None, and I mean NONE compare to H-E-B. This company's grocery stores are excellent, regardless of location. Each and every one is spotless, has excellent food, and fair prices. What sets H-E-B apart from the competition (like Target and vomitacious Wal-Mart are actually competitors for groceries) is their staff. The staff at H-E-B are friendly, courteous, professional, and above all helpful. Every time I've asked for help in an H-E-B the staff have walked me to or toward the aisle, or if they did not know (rare), they find another staffer who does. To top it off, H-E-B is a highly philanthropic organization that gives back to the local community. We will continue to shop at this and other H-E-B locations so long as we live in San Antonio. UGH! this is what I say every time I go here... UGH! I've given this place 5 moments of my life, she will have NO MORE! The entire shopping experience at this tore sucks the life out of me. When I get home, I don't even want to put away my groceries... let em rot I say! My husband gives me the "look" and I inevitably put them in their proper place. But I curse at every item labeled H-E-B. All silliness aside, I really do hate this location. From the location, right off a 1604 off ramp. Beware of darting cars exiting this shopping center, speeding off 1604, and those drivers that just don't know where they are. To the parking: WTF where they thinking? There is no good parking spot in this place. Its squished, narrow, and lacking flow. There is always 5 shopping cart go-getter guys out there with their line of 300 carts pushing their way through the walking customers and mega SUVs and trucks. There is NO good place to park, I've said this, but I have to say it again to make the point of, regardless where you park, your lost when it comes to entering the store. You want to start with produce? great! good luck finding a cart over there! not to mention after your purchase, you will have to exit the other side, and become one of those lost shopping cart souls in the mix with the SUVs and cart go-getter guys. You want to take the other entrance? GREAT! the only good thing about this side is that's where they keep all of the carts. Once your in, however, figuring out where to go becomes a ninja act, and you have to dodge the express lanes, guide yourself around the pissed off shoppers trying to figure how to get out, and the crazy cart racers running to the one thing they remembered they needed but forgot to get... grrrr. I cant go any further with this review... my blood pressure cant take it! But I will... The lay out of the store is terrible, just terrible.If you don't know the store, you wont find the butter, eggs and milk. But when you do find it, you'll ask yourself, why on earth does this store need an aisle and a half of yogurt? Do these people around here really eat that much yogurt?! and then you start looking around at the people in the yogurt aisle and a half, and wonder, why!? The meat and cheese are cold, and about a mile away from the rest of the cold items. I tried to figure out which was worse, warmed over frozen and dairy items, or warmed over meat and cheese. My last trip I decided on warmed over meat and cheese. hope I don't get ecoli! I'd say that this place has great items and a huge selection... but we live in an area and a society that expects that. If I cant get it here, I can get it anywhere else. Its not enough to keep me coming back. The people that work here seem moderately interested in checking out my items and lifting my heavy watermelon, and for that I give them 1 star! Cashier did not greet us at all. Neither did the bagger. She grabbed the basket very annoyed to start putting the groceries in. Was very rough with the groceries & set the bags down hard in the basket, practically throwing them in. As she roughly set the last bag in, she quickly faced the other way as we thanked her anyway.. she completely ignored us, didn't say a word, and went on to find her next station to bag. VERY bad customer service. I didn't catch the cashier's name, but the bagger was Julieta. The shopping was a good experience, but leaving the store was a whole other story. read more
