I lost track of Cindy Louie and her shop when she left Broadway Plaza several years ago. Delighted to find she is still in business, now on Cypress. The shop is much smaller and she no longer has clothing, other than scarves. (I still treasure a gold and silver brocade jacket I bought there 12 years ago. It is a classic.) Recently we took our very first family vacation to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. During the vacation we went to see Mayan ruins and a Mayan village. And while in the village the locals were selling hand crafted Mayan obsidian. My wife and daughter found beautiful bracelets and I wanted something as well to remember our first trip together, so I got one two. Before we left the shop, a Mayan healer came by and blessed us and the bracelets. I was a bit worried when we got back to the hotel though because I'm very active and I was worried that my bracelet would break. Sure enough, when I got back to the states, while moving some equipment for my mother-in-law, the string holding my bracelet broke. I was very lucky to find all the pieces, but was worried that I wouldn't be able to find anyone to fix it like the original. When I looked up bracelet repair, CY Louie came up as the number one option in Walnut Creek. I called and spoke to the owner who was extremely friendly and said she could fix it. And when I got to the shop, she was even nicer in person! Not only did she say she could fix it, she mentioned doubling the string so it would be twice as strong, and adding knots every three beads so that if it broke again, most of the beads would still be on the bracelet. Plus, she did it all in 30 minutes, while my daughter and I completed our errands. And the price was completely reasonable. In fact, I tried to offer her more money! If I could, I would give this place 6 stars. They definitely earned my business for all our bracelet and jewelry repair needs. read more

I am thrilled with the work that she has done! I've brought in several pieces and have also bought her jewelry. But I am most excited about the pearl necklace that she redid. It was a traditional cultured pearl choker that was a gift from my in-laws 20+ years ago. I never wore it because of the short choker length. CY Louie did a spectacular job restringing it and adding gorgeous beads between. She was extremely patient as we spent a long time coming up with different options. Wow. If I could give SEVEN stars I would. I had an extraordinary customer service experience with Cindy. I had a pair of beautiful but unusually shaped pearl earrings. I lost one of the earrings. I took them in to a (very fancy) jeweler in Walnut Creek thinking I could possibly find a "match" for the missing earring. The owner of the (fancy) jewelry store said - "Oh, you need to go speak to Cindy around the corner. She can help you." Cindy A) Found a perfect match for my pearl in her inventory - no easy task given it's unusual shape; B) Made the new pearl into a matching earring for me; C) DELIVERED the replacement earring to me!; D) And charged a very reasonable price. Cindy at CY Louie is absolutely wonderful! She custom-designed and made me a set of earrings and a bracelet to match my gown for my daughter's wedding. She showed me several designs and then worked really hard to find the exact colors needed to match the gown. All of this was done so willingly, and so very professionally! She is a great designer and extremely artistic.
