The woman at the desk (I apologize that I do not remember her name) explained that they would need to do a laser repair rather than soldering the post, in order to avoid damaging the stone. I have known Greg and used his services from the beginning. He has designed several pieces for me that are always complimented. I have recommended his services to my friends since he is super honest and you don't have to worry about getting back your original stones. They have all been very pleased with his work. Most recently he made my wedding and engagement rings fit. Ten years ago he made them larger and put a "spring" inside to make them fit over my knuckle. My knuckles kept growing, and the rings no longer fit so he fixed them with a "hinge" device. They open up to be put on and then close "seamlessly." Hard to explain, but it looks great and works well. It wasn't cheap, but is was custom made and is just what I wanted. Well worth the cost as I can wear and enjoy my rings again. Close to our wedding anniversary, I make a point of having the settings on my engagement and wedding ring checked. With COVID, I was several months late in heading to Jewelsmiths in Pleasant Hill. I also brought along a jade ring to check as the setting seemed loose. I've always been pleased with Jewelsmiths and my recent visit was not an exception. Claire provided fast and friendly service. Their space is small and they limit the customers to only three people at a time. Although I was the only customer, I told Claire I would wait outside as I had other errands and was trying to limit my "inside" shopping time. (Yes, I can be a bit paranoid.) She was very understanding and brought the rings out to me when she was done. She assured me the settings were fine on my three rings. Claire explained that since jade is a soft stone the setting could not be "tighter" and that I was not in danger of losing the stone. No charge for checking the settings or cleaning the rings. My diamonds are sparkling! They have a tip jar so I left a generous tip. Everyone deserves tips this year. I have marked my calendar and will be back in a year ... unless I can find a reason to return earlier. read more

Pricing was good initially but did have to pay a bit more due to something that was unforseen which was related to the prongs and having to mold something for the earrings we got. However, they gave us the heads up and at that point we were already wanting to get them done so we didn't have a choice but to go with the additional fee. I brought in my morganite wedding ring for polishing because it had gotten very scratched over 4 years. They have a stone cutter in house and they told me that they had done many morganite and aquamarine rings (both are softer stones that scratch) so I felt comfortable leaving it with them. My jaw dropped when I came to pick it up. Completely exceeded my expectations and the price was v reasonable. It is SO shiny I feel like it looks even better than when I got it. They told me I can bring it in anytime for a quick steaming and polishing for free. Highly recommend this place. read more

Jewelsmiths discussed the cost of a ring with our specifications and settled on $1.5k for it. They later changed this price to over $2,000 after the deposit was placed and were only able to be "worked down" a to $1,800. Since then I have had the ring independently appraised twice and the value has never been quoted at even $400. A row of halo stones surround the center stone and they're all constantly shifting to be uneven because there are not correct prongs in place for them, and the center stones prongs aren't smoothed so they catch on everything (tearing out hair, sweaters, etc). Overall very dissatisfied. Jeweler noted if I did not like the ring that was on us because it was custom. Nothing we can do about it now. I do not recommend them to anyone for any work. Edited with my receipt (with out last name misspelled, a nice touch) since the owner would like to lie and state this didn't happen at his business. read more

I found this shop when I was looking to get a gold chain repaired a little over a year ago. My mother lives in Concord and at the time I was staying with her and wanted to find a local repair shop. Lee helped me find a new clasp in their catalog and the repair was done within a week. During my visit Lee talked about their redesign and custom design services. My experience with her great customer service that day led me back to this store for a redesign a year later. Greg and Claire were great to work with as well. During the redesign appointment Greg showed me many options to fit the style I was looking for. Claire shared helpful information and showed me the models they create before finishing your rings. I love that they show you models you can try on before finishing your design. It is so helpful to get a more realistic idea than just what is done on the computer. When it was time to pickup Lee helped check us out. I was glad to see her again as her customer service is just so warming to the shop it really draws you back in. I brought with me a chain I wanted sized down. We talked for a bit and when she found out we were traveling from Sacramento she got the size down done in 20 minutes rather than have us drive back down later in the week. All in all this store did an amazing job with my jewelry. Their customer service skills are absolutely stunning. The chain broke on my necklace. The chain is sterling and made of very tiny links. The necklace is not valuable but it is extremely sentimental and you really must choose the right business when entrusting them with the things you hold dear. The people working at the Jewelsmiths are warm and professional. I was told the chain-50 years old at this point-could be repaired and it would be ready in 4-5 days. Surprise! They called that afternoon to say it was ready for pick up. The work is stellar; I can't find the repair. The gentleman helped me drew the designs of my rings to accompany the rings we used the sizing rings to figure out what would be the right size. The gentleman explained why he recommended the size which I was agreed with his explanation. I picked up my rings and they fit perfect once again. I was told that if they fit loose or tight I could return them for an adjustment. I'd give them 1 star. During the pandemic I went here to support small business. Boy was I wrong. I bent my wedding ring vacuuming a shag rug I bought on Wayfair. My 30 year old wedding ring ring had never been to a jeweler even to be cleaned. I had a one carrot solitaire with a broken prong that I also brought in. They talked me into putting the two rings together. At first they looked great but were too small. So they resized it. Now the band had a wonky curve to it that the owner admitted wasn't right. So they tried to fix it. It still wasn't right. Each time my rings has less and less gold. They were now really thin. I left and got a 2nd opinion.
