Every conceivable spot has been transformed, and it twists and winds around itself, every bend revealing a colorful surprise. They've built multiple suites around the site, each one a gem. Ours was very comfortable and plenty warm in December. Lots of outdoor seating areas. The property abuts BLM land, so all you see is desert stretching endlessly into the distance. Let them feed you, for Pete's sake. The meals exceeded my expectations by a mile. Every meal (we did two breakfasts and one dinner) was a multi-course feast, with a ton of variety, flavor, and above all clean, healthy, nourishing food. If you take nothing else from my review, just trust that you want Carlo and Jack to cook for you. Villa Anita is warm, welcoming, eclectic, lively, and fun. Carlo is buzzing with energy and stories and Jack is sweet and serene. They have a pack of six darling dogs, so if that's not your jam, be advised. We loved them all: Guido, Vida, Dillon/Pickles, Lucy O. Ball, Dwight White and Betty White Magoo of the Long Island Magoos (my favorite, although Lucy took a shine to my traveling companion). There is no internet or cell service, and no television so it's best for people who know how to unplug and be present together. We spent the day exploring, so after our wonderful mini dinner parties we were happy to retire and recharge for more adventures the next day. Go use the private tub at Tecopa Hot Springs for extra deep relaxation. We loved our stay and plan to return.

We got one of the rooms with a kitchen area and it had a nice clean working kitchen along with a nice shower and beds, all well-designed and fit into a small room. The common area outside had a couple of tables and a few chairs. The monster-size trees and beautiful flowering bushes were amazing. There is some kind of water table near the surface and some greenery, even in the middle of summer in this desert. Shoshone Inn (really a motel) is pretty much the only establishment in the area and was convenient for my planned expeditions, so I bit the bullet and made the reservation. Amenities: Hot shower (no tub), mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker including coffee pods and creamer. Breakfast of bagels, yogurt and fruit also included. BTW the hot water was truly hot, which was nice (it's chilly here in winter). Lots of complimentary goodies (lotion, shampoo, bath gel, even eye gel and pillow spray to help you get a good night's sleep). Room: Very comfortable bed, large wardrobe for storage, and a nice desk with chair. NO CELL SERVICE OR LANDLINE phone here; but there is free Wi-Fi and a pay phone nearby for emergencies. Cleanliess was great. Service: Check-in ran a little late as my room was not ready when I arrived. Keeping in mind that the town of Shoshone has a population of 31, it must be hard to keep enough staff to get everything done. Everyone was very friendly and helpful about the process and answered all my questions. Just go with the flow. THE BEST THING: The Warm Springs Pool. Staying at the Inn gives you access to the Warm Spring Pool, which is heavenly. Shoshone is home to amazing natural hot springs (as well as their own species of pupfish adapted to live in the springs.) These springs feed the pool, which is a short hike from the hotel. Parking: Free in the lot. Tips: Bring food and supplies, there's a gas station market right next store to the motel but with limited provisions. Drive to Tecopa for more hot springs. And have dinner at Steaks and Beer (reservation highly suggested.)

I am very plugged into the Big Bear rental community and have used other property managers in the past. I have also stayed as a guest in vacation rentals in Big Bear prior to owning my own. I was told years ago when we were looking for a new manager that Leanne was "best on the mountain" and after 4+ years I have to say we agree with that sentiment. She has her own properties up in Big Bear as well so she really understands what's important. She has somehow managed to form a highly effective team which is no small feat in Big Bear as it is often difficult to find hard workers! That alone is very impressive. Leanne has kept our place booked consistently these last 4 years even with all the challenges of being on the mountain (fires, blizzards, road closures, etc). If I ever reach out directly to Leanne she always responds promptly so she is very accessible to the home owners. Some of the reasons we left our last prop manager were because we were getting bad renters, last minute cancellations, and they did not support a higher end of service we wanted to provide (more amenities, personal touch, etc). With Leanne everything runs very smoothly and we have never been told they could not support what we wanted to do. I recommend Leanne all the time to others and some of my friends are also using her for their vacation rentals as well. If you are looking for a property manager I recommend interviewing 4-5 as they all vary and you want the best fit for your situation. Leanne was so easy to talk to and I read her management agreement in advance before deciding. You can learn a lot about the different PMs by reading there contracts!

The home is in a nice area of Big Bear Lake and looked beautiful in the listing photos, but unfortunately the cleanliness and comfort did not match the photos. We found ants throughout the kitchen, including around the sink, on the counter, inside board games, on the floor, and even a dead ant in the refrigerator. We also found live spiders in the bathroom and dead flies on the floor and stairs. The master bathroom shower curtain had visible mold spots. The home was also uncomfortably warm during our summer stay. The downstairs game room AC worked well, but the upstairs remained very warm despite setting the thermostat to 73°F. There were stains on the living room sofa and dirt/scuff marks on the walls and doors. Due to the overall cleanliness concerns, we chose not to use the hot tub. Overall, the location was nice, but the cleanliness issues, insects, mold, and inadequate cooling significantly impacted our stay."

Oops! Thought I posted this months ago! Here goes...(from August 2020)…read more Hubby and I agree the room is decent for what is included. Do not expect a modern hotel with all the perks! It is a good option to reduce travel time (& save gas) to/from NTC. We needed this break after driving across country. It's ideal if you're new to here and want to learn about the area. For under $100 a night, this is the best, safest place to stay for our family! If you're looking for 4- or 5-star comparable amenities, then go to a nearby city that has 4-star and 5-star hotels! This will disappoint you. We saw other hotels 45 min. away, but they all cost more. After reading reviews of how others' experiences were so poor, I wanted to share. Maybe it's just me being quite forgiving these days, but we all need to be during an unpredictable world pandemic! I'm satisfied with the condition of our room. It is obviously an older hotel and is undergoing some improvements (slowly). It's a small hotel, so easy to navigate. Took me a day to learn which elevator to take. Even if you make a wrong turn, keep going and you'll end up right where you started! It's a big square. The stairs are marked with Exit signs, but it's much safer taking the elevator with my toddler and heavy luggage! I was happy with the cleanliness of the room and pleasantly surprised by the bathroom. The clean shower had good water pressure and a tub that drains well! I hate standing in bath water! I've stayed at nicer hotels with clogged drains! Ick! The shiny tiles go from the tub all the way up to the ceiling with white grout lines. Looked new or just kept super clean. Cleanest bathroom tiles and the whitest grout in a hotel that I have ever seen! [I've traveled to many states (25+) and countries (10+) staying in many hotels of varying star levels (2 to 5)!!] No tears/stains on the shower curtain. The tile floors and grout were clean also. Just redone maybe? No dust bunnies under the bathroom counter. Light fixtures looked new. The carpet is hotel carpet, but looked clean and was dry. I hate stepping on wet carpet (happened at a "nicer" hotel at Barstow Outlets)! So gross. Here is the part that took stars away: 1) The clean kitchen had a couple loose cupboard doors. It was awkward requiring both hands to Jenga them shut. Mini fridge is not large enough for a whole family staying a week, but was sufficient for basics (like milk, juice) & for freezer packs plus a few frozen dinners. 2) No stove, no cook plate, no toaster, etc. so, no cooking in this "kitchen". Microwave oven only. Ugh. With the limited restaurant options right now, this was inconvenient! We like cooking or grilling out and missed that with our stay here. We thought the suite with kitchen meant a full kitchen. Nope! No plates, no pots or pans, but a sponge and dish soap was provided. That was useful for my baby's sippy cups. The coffeemaker is a mini size with the plastic pullout drawer. It worked in a pinch! Better than that tiny in-room coffee maker is the free coffee available 24/7 in the lobby. The FCFS continental breakfast each morning was a good surprise. (Add back 1/2 star for that!) Most hotels we stayed this past week, even if free breakfast was in the room description, did not offer any food at all! Here, we had a choice of pastries (the mini muffins were yummy), bread & bagels, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, boiled eggs, and choice of apple & orange juice plus coffee and herbal or black tea bags. My little one loves the mini blueberry muffins - so that's a WIN!! Abundant free fresh fruit for the taking (bananas, apples, oranges) during our last week's stay! Just need to wear your mask, keep a distance from others, and clean your hands! Masks and hand-sanitizer are available. The suite (3rd floor) has a sofa with pullout bed. Everything looked clean despite being a little dated. I was not expecting much, so I was not too disappointed. No USB plug-ins for charging phones or any electronics. Walls had regular outlets and appeared newly painted. Everything was in great working condition, especially the old air units. One in each room, so we stayed comfortably cool for the entire stay! It's been 100+ for most of August! Desert heat is rough. So, I will give this place an 3.5 review because I am happy to be well and rested! The king bed is big and comfy. The staff was friendly and helpful. Plus, the courtyard offers a safe and semi-shaded play area for my little guy - a wooden playground to climb up and go down the slides plus a turf area (fake grass) along the building with benches to sit in the shade. However, it was closed the last few days we stayed. There is a BBQ grill area in the middle also with two grills. I took our little guy out there every morning for 20-30 min. before it hit 100!

Here's what got me negatively- Things hotel can control - I had a room on the bottom floor. I opened the blinds to get some natural light in the room. There is no screen to prevent anyone from seeing in and of course someone with their dog walked by right then. One of the coffee machines was full of used grounds so quit working at breakfast. There is always a line of people to get coffee and this made it worse. They don't have coffee in the rooms for environmental purposes which I understand but they should have all coffee machines up and running and kept up with since there isn't coffee in the rooms. Things hotel can't control but made for a not so great experience. Went out and sat on a chair to enjoy the cooler evening weather after check in and a man walked by and relived himself on the wall. There was someone above me wearing hard soled shoes who kept walking back and forth that night and of course again the next morning and I got to listen to the neighbors bed next door to me hitting the wall for about 20 min.
