I never write reviews. However, I am surprised that Dr. Mozayan is still in practice and has any positive reviews. He did my gum surgery over 20 years ago. It was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. He did not use sufficient anesthetics, he was utterly lacking in compassion and I was physically traumatized for 2 months afterward.Furthermore, his staff at that time were unrepsonsive and canceled my cleaning appointment just 2 days before I was to get my braces with the excuse they were going on vacation. I was just recently made aware that he is still in practice. I am sure he has a good reputation as a teacher but his manner, lack of patience and obliviousness to pain control remains a deeply disturbing memory. I I had the good fortune to be referred to Dr. Browning who took good care of me for 20 years since. Unfortunately now retired. read more

This office is clean, airy. modern and follows COVID protocols, and has plenty of parking. The office staff is cheerful and friendly, and it is obvious they enjoy coming to work. Dr. Mozayan is very upbeat, yet empathetic, and a skilled periodontist. Gum surgery is intrinsically an uncomfortable procedure, but Dr. Mozayan and staff do everything possible to make the procedure and follow-up care as painless as possible. Dr. Mozayan got me in very quickly and explained in great detail my options, the procedures, and possible risks involved with each option. Don't believe his ratings. Dr. M is more concerned with his online reputation then providing consistent service to customers. My recommendation is to hold off on ANY online feedback until services are rendered or you'll find yourself in the precarious position we did. Our services were abruptly canceled the day after a down payment was made forcing us to look elsewhere for a child's scheduled surgery. And delay the surgery for several months. I recieved an unwarrented lecture by him and his staff during the release signing threating to cancel or not show up if I didn't remove a former 2 star review that I later updated to 3 stars, associated with an uncharacteristic billing practice that the staff later apologized and accepted as a mistake. After improving the review (hearing them out and their side of the story) my appointment was canceled and the doctor refused to discuss it with me. So much for "contact me anytime I would be happy to speak with you". I strongly encourage my fellow Yelpers to trust their instincts and if you get any flack from them take your money elsewhere. read more

I generally struggle with dentists after some really bad ones. Dr Mozayan is very thoughtful, wholistic and kind. He has not done anything other than an exam and cleaning for me. I had another doctor do a very poor gum graft that failed and then turned out lopsided, more gum on one side than the other. This doctor was disappointed to see the bad work but he did not want to go in to try to repair. He was very honest about it. I appreciated his candor and expertise. read more

Very expensive $8000 per implant w too many xrays plus $2000 for HIS anesthesiologist who uses IV but cannot find deep or rolling veins and left me in great pain and strapped down! I was trying to escape. Mozayan only commented that I hadn't reached critical levels. read more

At the consultation I was advised on the work that would be needed to correct the issue and how billing worked, and how they would submit to my insurance for reimbursement. Mozayan rocks! I'm an older guy so have considerable experience with various dentists and dental procedures. I went to Dr. Mozayan for a second opinion after two other dentists had recommended a root canal on an abscessed molar. He was very clear that the tooth was not worth saving, and that a root canal would not cure the serious bone loss that had already taken place. After he knowledgeably answered my questions and spelled out the options, I chose to have the tooth extracted. The procedure was pain free and quick. Dr. Mozayan explained in advance what he would be doing, and why. By the time I returned the following week for a check up, my gum was completely healed. I have other potential gum and bone loss issues. None of this stuff is fun, but I will unquestionably return to Dr. Mozayan when and if additional work is requried. read more

I am not a medical professional, so I won't say anything about quality of procedure; my procedures seemed to go swimmingly and I healed fast, but I'm simply not competent to evaluate medical procedure. That being noted, I did want to say that I was very impressed with how Dr. Mozayan and his staff treated patients. I had a partially impacted wisdom tooth removed and a gum graft. Dr. Mozayan answered my questions thoroughly and patiently, so that I could understand what was going on, and gave me very clear instructions on pre- and post-operative care. During the operation, I was very nervous, and he and his staff were calm, reassuring, and responsive. Although I hope I never have to have dental surgery again, I would absolutely return to Dr. Mozayan if I did. read more

I am posting this for my husband, Gary B about his experience: Dr. Mozayan was highly recommended by our dentist, Dr. Thomas Young, for periodontal care. On my first visit he noted the poor condition of my gums, most measures were 5 to 7, and my missing teeth. Through the past few years he & his staff have worked with me so now they gush at how great my gums look and my numbers are 1 to 3. In July of last year I decided to go ahead with dental implants for 4 missing lower teeth. Dr. Mozayan studied and analyzed my x-rays. Due to bone loss over the years, he determined I had a 50/50 chance of needing my lower jaw bone broken in one section and moved to create a more solid jaw for the implant area. He spent a good deal of time studying my case and through his experience he was able to complete the implants using standard bone graft and did not need to move jaw bone. He saw me for several follow-up visits to make sure I was healing correctly and the entire procedure was a complete success. I can now chew a steak for the first time in years. All my food tastes better. Janet B says: I have complete confidence in Dr. Mozayan. I was driving to SF twice a year for periodontal visits until Dr. Young referred us to him. I have had gum surgery and an implant in the past so I must maintain 2 annual visits to a periodontist and twice a year at my general dentist for cleanings to prevent further gum surgeries. I first saw Dr. Mozayan some years back for gum grafts, performed in two separate appointments. The results were excellent. This I'd expected, given Dr. Mozayan's outstanding reputation. His knowledge and expertise made my sessions painless. What I didn't expect was to be so comfortable and laugh during the process! But laugh I did--well, more like heartfelt smiling since serious work was happening in my mouth :-) . Dr. Mozayan and staff's hilarious sense of humor and warm compassion put me immediately at ease--so much so that when I went back for the second gum grafts session, I was not at all nervous! I see Lindsay, Dr. Mozayan's amazing and talented hygienist, regularly for cleanings, and Dr. Mozayan communicates directly with my regular dentist if he notices any issues that may need attention. I feel like my teeth have a whole team rooting for them (pun intended). These reasons are why, even though I've moved two and a half hours away from Santa Cruz, Dr. Mozayan is still my periodontist.
