Unfortunately, I should have stuck with Busy B's. This was my first order from Soul Food Cafe, and it will definitely be my last. I ordered the smothered pork chops with broccoli cheese casserole and macaroni and cheese. I also tried the cube steak, cornbread dressing, and fried chicken. Honestly, the entire meal was a huge disappointment. The rice that came with the pork chops was undercooked, which was surprising because no restaurant should be serving rice that isn't fully cooked. The cube steak and cornbread dressing were not enjoyable at all, and the fried chicken was bland and lacked flavor. I'm genuinely confused by all of the great reviews because my experience was the complete opposite. Based on the meal I received, I can't recommend this restaurant. Busy B's may be more expensive, but in my opinion, they're worth every penny because the quality and flavor are consistently there. Unfortunately, Soul Food Cafe was a complete miss for me. The upcharge policy just doesn't add up, and it feels like a bad deal for customers. The food is generally good, but they could definitely back off on the salt. Also, I'm not a fan of their yams--they're almost like mashed potatoes, which is not the texture I expect. On the other hand, I really like their potato salad. It's one of the highlights for me but there was none today. On top of that, my service today wasn't great either. I usually come during the week when the two elders, an older woman and gentleman, are there. They are always so pleasant and provide excellent service. But today, the experience fell short.
