Years ago I went here but didn't return due to long wait times in the reception area. The practice is huge and not very personal. Recently I was diagnosed with an eye condition and sought cost information from two practices. D'Ambrosio was noticeably more affordable than the other provider. I have not received my bills yet, but they have been excellent at giving me the billing codes needed to get an estimate from my insurer. Wilma was especially helpful. Office staff also readily provided cash pricing. You get what you pay for, which is why the wait times are still long, you can't schedule follow up appointments but have to wait to hear from them because they are so overbooked, and the opthalmic and call center staff are young and inexperienced. For example, I was supposed to be given a brochure but the assistant forgot to give it to me, so I called the next day to see if they could mail it to me and the person I spoke with said they couldn't handle it and would have to get the doctor involved. I never did get this information. I was also told on the phone that I could opt out of their text reminders which come across as gobbledygook and get e-mails instead, just inform the office upon check-in, only to be told when I arrived that an outside service does the reminders and they have no idea how to change this. The front line employees seem afraid to do anything out of the ordinary. The clinical care is typical for the United States fee for service model with an emphasis on billable procedures. I had a wait and watch condition and was told I needed a fluorescein angiogram. At no time was I informed of the risks of the procedure, including heart attack or death. It is provided in the doctor's office without an onsite ER department. The test is invasive and so dangerous pregnant women are not allowed to receive it. I cancelled this test, which had also been recommended by the other more expensive practice I contacted. My son went here once for an eye emergency when my provider at the time refused to fit him in. I still appreciate that and it's why I decided to try D'Ambrosio again but it is unlikely I will return. Imagine that you in a futuristic science fiction novel, where conventional optometrists have been replaced with a culture of modular eye-robots who live in dimly lit colonies. To get eye care, you visit the eye-robot colony who process you in robotic team fashion. This is basically what they have going here. It's not a bad experience but if you've been to a smaller optometrist it will definitely seem strange. The wait time seems average for a practice, and the waiting area is comfortable. Once you're called, your visit is then handled by a chain of staff who lead you around on a "tour' of the facility. You're dropped off in one area, then led to another area and handed off to someone else. You're led to a room, you do a screening. You're led to another room, you get your vision tested. You're led to another room, you do a retina scan. If your eyes are dilated for an exam, you're led to a different area where you're left sitting semi-blind until someone collects you to lead you to the next area. I've often wondered if I wandered away from my seat at this juncture and missed my pick-up, if I'd ever be able to rejoin the tour. By this point you've generally heard a series of unfamiliar names and been in several indistinguishable looking rooms, and your vision is blurry. (I advise you to remain seated.) If you're updating your prescription this tour has to end in the eyewear area. I tried explaining to the optometrist earlier in the tour that I just needed a copy of my prescription (I buy my glasses online) but had to go to the eyewear area anyhow -- that's the part of the tour where you receive your prescription. Follow your tourguide, wait your turn, and explain to the eyewear team for the 3rd consecutive visit that you like to get your glasses online. In all, it's as impersonal as possible. The staff seems to turn over very rapidly -- I've not seen the same people on return visits, ever. Depending on what you're hoping for, this can be either positive or negative. One last criticism: they will write their contact lens prescriptions for one year, irregardless of your history. read more

**Stay away!!** Heed my warning, this place has a high likelihood to do you wrong. I was told I was a candidate for laser eye surgery (PRK). I had an appointment scheduled. I was warned by my mother and friend to get a second opinion and to consider the bad reputation of this establishment. I got a second opinion and it turns out I am NOT a candidate for any sort of laser eye surgery. My corneal thickness is too low which puts me at severe risk for Ectasia something that is just as bad as being blind. To make matters worse, I had called and cancelled my appointment beforehand because of the second opinion. I called back to find out they had never cancelled my appointment and put a red flag on my account because I quote "didn't show up for my appointment" which I had cancelled. Do yourself a favor and find another establishment to go to. Go to TLC for laser, they screen you properly as well as hold high standards for their practices. The staff here is very unconcerned and they do not care about their patients. You go in there and you will be wondering around the establishment clueless as to whats going on. Most unprofessional eye place I've ever been to. Currently waiting to speak to the manager. Edit** Manager calls me back after I have to keep calling. Completely ignores me until I keep calling. Tells me I am a liar and accusing their staff of not doing their jobs. I have phone records which show me calling and cancelling my appointment. They then tell me I'm never allowed to come back because I "failed to show up for my appointment". I recently had LASIK at D'Ambrosio Eye Care and could not be happier. From the moment I had my first interaction with Dr. D'Aabrosio's staff, I knew I made a good decision. The staff was nothing short of fantastic. Friendly, attentive and informative would be the best way to describe them. The morning of my LASIK procedure went great. The LASIK coordinator and the nurses did a great job to not only get me prepared for my procedure, but to make sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I even got to listen to some great music during my quick and painless procedure. Now for the really important part, I see great, in fact, I was able to see 20/20 the next morning. It has been a few weeks now and other than occasional dry eye, maybe taking drops once a day if in a dry area, I have had no complications. Made an appointment 3 months ago, because supposedly with Covid that was the soonest they could get me in...every time I called when I was pregnant they told me they couldn't see me..then I make an appointment to go to the Merrimack ave one since it was closer to my house and I thought ok I'm all set, go to the appointment call to check in because of Covid and they are like ur at the wrong place and I'm like no I specifically asked for this one. Then they tell me they can't help me, blah blah blah, so I'm like look ok call them and tell them that I'm on my way...the lady at the front is like ok asked me 7000 questions about Covid which I answered, took them another 5 min to figureout why I was late. They were rude and then they were trying to close the door in my face while I was still talking, never asked me for my insurance, they were straight up rude then took me almost another 40 minutes to get me inside. When the lady called me asking me again about the Covid questions I had already answered I said I already answered these and they are all NO! I said this is going to make me late for what I had to do after this appointment, and when I called over 3 months ago for an appointment this was the soonest they could get me in, she was like WHAT that's not right and I can't believe they gave u an appointment that far out from when u called. It's a BIG place - way bigger than even a large family practice. Expect a lot of people to be waiting with you, and expect to see a few tech ask you questions and do some minor procedures before the real doctor visits. I had a regular visit and needed a retinal image - too about 1.5 hours total and included the time for pupils to dilate. Expect it to feel more like a hospital visit - big reception area, large office staff, many exam rooms, many procedure room. This can give it an impersonal feeling, but I was OK with that. Deeply disturbing. They have far more patients than they can accomodate QUALITY care for. There is nothing wrong with having a large practice with multiple offices. There is however a problem with quality of care and best practices suffering as a result. You will never see the same optometrist twice, having your medical record in one place is not the same thing as having continuity of care. Despite having serious conditions including macular degeneration, astigmatism, severe near-sightedness and a high risk for retinal detachment (which I have had previous laser eye surgery for) I somehow did not quality to see a ophthalmologist. As a medical professional myself, I STRONLY urge you to avoid D'Ambrosio Eye Care. Quality, competent, compassionate care is deserved by everyone and you will not find that here. Customer service is horrible. Both times I went here I felt like they couldn't get me out the door soon enough. When I told them about my concerns about my contacts not feeling comfortable, after testing them before ordering, the doctor dismissed that and said they fit fine... so I am now stuck with super uncomfortable contacts that hurt my eyes. I called to ask about ordering daily contact instead of monthly (thinking they would feel better, because that's what I had prior) they said I would have to book and pay for another fitting. THEY WILL SCAM YOU AND THEIR DOCTORS ARE AWFUL! HERE IS HOW I KNOW! This was my first time visiting here. My appointment for a routine eye exam was scheduled in the last week of July. When I booked it, I asked the woman over the phone to check that I would be covered with the insurance I had. She assured me that I would be. Now, just to state, I am under 26, so this is my parent's insurance, so I of course asked as I am not aware of the benefits my insurance has. I asked again on the day of, and once more they assured me that I would be covered and that my bill would be processed and that I had the appropriate benefits. From there, I told the doctor that I was uncomfortable having my eyes dilated... HER WORDS: "it would be easier for me to do this today, you'll be fine". I was blinded by the dilation, and the doctor did not guide me back to the front desk where I attempted to ask AGAIN if I was covered. The desk attendant said "you'll get a bill", and I said again, and I was met with, "Ma'am you can call us once you get our bill". So from here, I spent the next hour waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up in tears. When I got back to the office later that day to get my car to drive it home, I went back in and gave the office manager a piece of my mind about my experience... On 8/23... I get the bill... $390! I WAS LIED TO ABOUT MY COVERAGE AND THEY TRIED TO BLAME MY PARENTS FOR NOT TELLING ME ABOUT MY BENEFITS AFTER I HAD ASKED AT LEAST THREE TIMES IF I WAS COVERED! No one explained to me that I would pay that amount, and now I'm looking to pursue this matter further. My advice, DO NOT GO HERE! I hardly ever bother with reviews (good or bad) because I'm just too tired, but... My experience is one of those deserving of 0 or less than 0 stars. At the behest of my doctor's office, I went to the ER last week for seeing "floaters and flashers" in one eye and was referred to this provider. After waiting quite a few days with the discomfort and anxiety, I felt a bit like a kid on Christmas for my appt. finally arriving this morning. I got there 20 minutes early since I knew I had to check in from the parking lot. I called the check-in number and the phone just rang off the hook; I tried this again and same thing. I called the appt. line and they said they couldn't do anything since they're not even in the same building and to "keep trying". I 'kept trying' for the remainder of the :20 up to the time of my appt., including trying in desperation the check-in number for the glasses side and that line also just rang endlessly but then hung up and a recording told me my call couldn't be taken right then and to call back (!?!), that was at least different. The signs all around the entrance about not even coming to the door before checking in by phone effectively prevented me from doing this. By the time my appt. was to have started, I was the most horrified that no one from inside called *me* to see where I was. Can you believe that? Must've been some party going on in there I thought, since the parking lot was full, of folks trying to check in perhaps? Hmm. Still in the parking lot, I called another doctor and made a new appt. for two days from now before calling the appt. line back to, broken-heartedly, cancel my today appt. from right outside their doors. :( The operator was very understanding and offered to try and get "the manager" of the building -- big surprise, she didn't answer her phone either nor has she called me back yet from the message I left; I am not holding my breath on that. If their entire phone system was down (extremely doubtful IMO), they should've had associates circulating the parking lot; I was parked right by the door and would've seen this. 'When life gives you lemons, make lemonade', I thought, and decided to put my ill-fated outing to constructive use by driving over to the ER that gave the referral (Heywood Hospital) and imploring them to choose a different eye care provider to recommend. Sadly, the number they gave me to call didn't seem to care much. Time wasted = my entire morning (away from work) and the days proceeding the appt. that I could've used to make a different appt. somewhere else. Money wasted = the cost of gas for a :20 roundtrip for nothing. Aggravation caused = immeasurable. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with this place, at least the Lancaster location. They "pad" their bill. Seriously, they charge something called a "contact lens evaluation fee," even if you aren't changing your contacts, are completely happy with them, and have been wearing them for years. And they have you sign a "contract" with them that you will pay this "FEE" every year. And then they charge your insurance for the cost of a full exam. And you STILL get WHACKED with a $55.00 FEE! (Which when I asked what the cost would be over the phone they never mentioned.) Worst eye care appointment I've ever had. They did unnecessary tests that weren't covered by insurance without informing me they weren't necessary or that they weren't covered. They billed my insurance company incorrectly. They charged me a medical copay for specialty service and decided that the insurance company didn't pay them enough, so 7 months later they sent me a delinquent notice saying I still owed them another $23 for the unnecessary test that I had already paid a medical copay for, and that my medical insurance (not eye care insurance) had already reimbursed them for. They are crooks. P.S. Since when does a basic eye exam require over an hour of waiting around in various lobbies even though you'd had your appointment for weeks? read more

They had to cancel my sons appointment at the beginning of March due to covid and after WEEKS of leaving messages and emails letting them know that my 4 year old is telling me he can't see and his glasses don't work anymore I finally got through today to be told that they can't see him till October and if I want I can call them every few days to check if there's a cancellation we'll no I'm not gonna waste an hour of my day once a week to call seeing as their phone systems constantly take forever to even get home through to a person! You would think a child who was so over due to a visit because THEY had to cancel they could find an opening else where for something that's rather urgent. I have been going to D'Ambrosio Eye Care for 10 years. The Lancaster office is a very busy place. That being said, it runs quite efficiently. The staff at the front desk are always courteous and helpful. The average wait time for me has been usually not more than 15 minutes. After checking in, one of the technicians does some preliminary testing before the doctor comes in. The technicians I have had are always friendly, knowledgable and professional. I have seen a few of the doctors there and always feel well cared for. Despite being so busy, I never feel that my exam is rushed. I always purchase my glasses and contacts there. The opticians are always helpful and knowledgable. The eyeglasses are very good quality and arrive in a timely manner. I would highly recommend D'Ambrosio Eye Care! read more

Came here to pick up my glasses that I already put $200 deposit on. When I got to check out, they inform me that I can't pay the balance with a check. NO ONE MENTIONED THIS TO ME BEFORE. They literally had me take the new glasses off my face and give them back. Won't be returning to this practice once I get my glasses. Poorly managed, wait time is absurd. Doctors add on all of this testing that isn't covered by insurance. Whoever previously mentioned that dambrosio is a waiting game, is spot on. Schedule a good 2-3 hours for an eye exam, and get ready to shuffle from one waiting area/station to the next. My family and I switched practices (after being notified that it was a 35$ charge per patient just to get my records!!!). All they see is $$ signs, with no regard for customer care or satisfaction. I recently had a laser procedure (not lasix) and experienced unexpected pain and side effects. I called at 4:40 on a Friday (2 hours after the procedure). The receptionist spent 15 minutes trying to find someone to talk to me. She said, everyone had gone home. She finally found someone who tried to reassure me that things would be fine. Two days later, the sight in my eye was greatly diminished. It was a Sunday. After waiting 10 minutes for the answering service, I waited another 15 minutes for a call back. I explained the condition, and was told the doctor would call me back. The same person called back and told me to come in at 3PM to see the doctor on call - who was the doctor who did the procedure. Instead of the Dr. who was on call, an opthamologist, I was seen by an optometrist. She did a thorough and competent exam. She told me the results would be reported to the doctor. I expected he would call me. He didn't. In a good practice, I would expect that someone would call to see if things had improved. Perhaps naive. I am disappointed in the lack of care and concern for the patient. I still have eye irritation and some diminished sight. More importantly I have lost confidence in the doctor and practice. Congratulations D'Ambrosio Eye Care, you have provided the worst eye care service I have ever had! 2 months ago, I waited 3 hours total to finish my eye exam. Today, I heard another patient comment, "this place is a waiting game", while another patient walked out because he had waited so long. To add to my previous narrative, D'Ambrosio Eye Care is incredibly unprofessional. Yesterday, I showed up for an appointment in Lancaster only to find out that the receptionist had scheduled it in Acton. I was not compensated for having to return the next day. I had a contact lens exam today and I felt rushed to the point where I question whether I even have the right prescription. During my last appointment, Dr. MM rudely responded to my questions probably because she was feeling stressed with the thought of all the patients waiting outside of our door. This place is full of nitwits and unqualified receptionists, assistants and doctors. My grandma said that one of her elderly friends walked out with one blind eye after getting treatment in Acton. This place should be avoided at all costs... if only to preserve your eyesight (the irony of it all). They bring in more patients than they can accommodate and the service is so rushed you probably are not getting the proper care for your money. It' really sad to see so many elderly people take advantaged of. To whoever owns or manages this company, I foresee the end of your business because it's run terribly as customer service is the last priority. You are all probably making a great profit, though. My 2 kids and I go here. One of my kids, since she was 3 months old. One of the comments on here is so far from the truth! I have been going here, since I was a kid, and they are very professional, here! The front desk, is confidential, about your info. The nurses are never rushing me or my kids. Never have! They have never mixed up scheduling with us. We also us both the Lancaster office and the Gardner office. It is very convenient. Dr. Wiseburg is amazing with my kids! He is the best Optomoligist, around! The appointments are lengthy, but, would want an eye doctor to be thorough, and give you the right prescription or diagnose correctly? Or be quick and mess up? I am glad they take all the tests and are thorough! I will wait! I think the previous, upset poster, went at a busy time. I purchased a pair of lenses and frames , the frames were discounted from their $285 to around $200 and the total bill was $400 .. 4 months later a weld broke on the frames , they told me that they did not warranty them because of the discount and they were discontinued, They could still sell me a new pair for $287 from their supplier, they would not even attempt to find a different set that the lenses would fit, Been through this twice with them and had the same disappointment in their customer service. Went to precision vision in townsend and they cut the lenses to fit a new pair that was $180 and then gave me 25% off .. Took my 79 year old grandfather here. They told me to be there to check in at 9:15 for a 9:30 appointment. They did not call us in until 10:12 right after I asked why it was taking so long. The doctor checked something and was only in the room with him for 5 minutes. He asked us to come back at 1:30. They called me later and asked to make that 1:30 appointment a 2:30 appointment. Got there at 2:12, at 2:30 someone says it'll just be a few more minutes. 3:10 had to ask what was going on then that's when they called us in. Should have read reviews before having my annual exam at this location. Very impersonal, long waits and overall very disappointing!

First let me state that Dr. Chang is top notch and several of my family members go to her and are very happy. Where I have the problem is in a recent visit my father that has Parkinson's Disease had to go into the appointment alone with out my mother (his caregiver) by his side. I understand the safety protocols with COVID, but this was NOT safe for my father. Number one he is very unsteady on his feet and frequently falls and number two he easily gets confused, therefore can not answer questions about his health, meds or remember what the doctor may discuss with him. My mother was left to sit outside in the car for 2 hours while Dad was in his appointment (that took less than one hour). They were supposed to call my mother to conference her in on the visit with the doctor and never did that. Then we also learned that he was left by himself in a waiting are for one hour after his appointment waiting for someone to come and walk him outside (they forgot about him waiting). Needless to say, I was very upset in learning this and called the Lancaster office and spoke with the office manager (Wilma). I asked her to look into this and get back to me. I also asked for her to look into the protocols around patients that are fall risks and easily disoriented and having the caregiver to be allowed with them. She said that this is mandated by the state, but I am finding other medical appointments that my father is going to allow my mother to be in there with him. I went here after an accident that resulted in some slight debris in my eye. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. I spent almost no time waiting for my appointment. My doctor was equally as nice who spoke to me in clear concise terms. I knew what was going on at every step of my procedure. I called to schedule an appointment and to get new contact lenses. I specifically stated that the main reason I called was for contact lenses. So I go to the appointment, take the eye exam, and once finished they say 'ok now we can get you fitted for glasses'. I explain that I needed contacts and not glasses. They tell me that I would need to make a new appointment for contacts. Seriously????? I made a new appointment. I have been looking for a new eye doctor seeing I am new to the area. I sent a request for the office to give me a call after 5pm as that is when I am out of work. I received a call the next day at 12pm and was unable to answer as I was at work. I called back during lunch and an outside phone operator answered. She was extremely rude. I asked if they were accepting new patients and she advised she did not know. So I asked when the office was open until because I requested someone call me after 5pm (Which is an option on their website). She said they close at 5 and if I wanted to speak with someone in the office I had to call during their normal business hours which are until 5pm. As I started to ask if I could request an appointment online because I work until 5 she hung up on me. I called the office back once they returned from lunch and the receptionist who worked at the office was just as unhelpful and rude. She advised they do not have night appointments (Which is not what the webpage mentioned) and as I was saying I would have to go to another office she hung up on me as well. NEVER would I go to an office who is so incredibly rude especially to someone who was looking to be a patient with them. Awful customer service.. A while back we had to take my grandmother there for an eye appointment, my little sister was having a meltdown so we were going in and out of the bathroom (it was a bathroom that had a bunch of stalls). It wasn't like a one person bathroom. Anyway these two snobby ladies come up to us and were like "this isn't a playground" so we apologized. They both chuckled and walked away, a few moments later when we were going to leave they started talking about us across the room and laughing. My mother and aunt were pissed off already because they a bad experience with one of the doctors. It was really embarrassing for us and we have never and will never go back there again. I had a very positive experience here, from scheduling to the visit and then for follow up for a billing question. Every person that I interacted with was helpful and very responsive. The optometrist was invested in helping me find a contact lens that worked for me and encouraged me to trial different ones and get back to him with feedback. I will definitely be back! read more

Their staff and doctors are highly skilled and professional . Wait times are sometimes lengthy. ? Office policies are corporate level. They do not care , it is about money. They left me blind in my left eye for two months' until they received payment from my insurance company, then they provided a corrective medically necessary contact lens.
