Not understanding some of these bad reviews, although they mostly seem from 5 years ago, still... We have been going to D&D for about 20 years now. I was kinda surprised I never reviewed before. No, we are not there a lot, however when we have been there, the service has been courteous and relatively quickly. I have sent several people I know who, when I see them, have thanked me for sending them. As to prices, I think all jewelry stores are expensive. D&D fall in line with an other area jewelry stores. If you want cheap, there is a Walmart about 2 miles south, if you want quality, knowledge and courteous service, this is where you should come. I would highly recommend going here. If you do have an issue, either D or D are there to talk to pretty much every hour the store is open. read more

I needed a new battery for my Timex . The watch is several years old and very abused. When they went to remove the battery, they noticed the back had been put on incorrectly, as such removing it may have damaged the watch. They asked me before proceeding and also checked the watch after the battery was successfully replaced. I appreciated that they took care with my watch, rather than automatically trying to sell me a new one. Their selection of jewelry is very nice. I wish I could of gave this place 0 starts. My husband and I asked them to replace a battery in a bolvlo watch its a $500 watch and it was water proof. So one day we went swimming and he had his watch on. After he was done swimming he had notice that the watch was foggy inside. So he looked at the back of the watch and come to fine out that there was a screw that was missing that was part of the back piece to make it waterproof. So he had called but D and D and let them know that they had miss place a screw for the watch and that water had gotten into the watch. The customer service lady was very rude and was talking really nasty she said it was not our problem and because it wasn't their fault even though they lost the screw. I went for a new watch band and they had a nice selection for me to choose from within my budget. I was impressed by how much they had in the store that was not fine jewelry. They had nice charm bracelets, wine glasses, clocks, and estate jewelry. The staff was very helpful. read more

I'm local and have been here twice now with bad experiences. Both times I have left feeling like the women assisting me were rude and snobs about the type and quality of jewelry we had. I simply wanted some alterations on my wife's wedding ring and another ring she really liked. Both times after inspecting the rings and whispering to each other, they were unable to help us. The look on their faces made us feel like we bought our jewelry from a candy machine. Unless you have a FAT wallet, don't expect to be treated like they actually care. I won't ever be back or recommend this place. Sad really since we like to keep our business local. read more

I needed to have a couple of prongs that I broke off my engagement ring fixed and the shank fixed also because I wore right through it until it cracked. Dawn called and let me know that I should actually have the head re-done on my ring due to cracks and excessive wear. I was concerned about the time frame because I wanted to have my ring back for my birthday and family get-togethers. Dawn put a rush on it and got my ring back to me quickly. It looks absolutely beautiful again! I feel much more confident wearing my ring now that the shank is thick like it was when my husband originally bought it for me almost 19 years ago and the metal holding my diamond is so much thicker and sturdier than it was before! Ok selection-Not the worst prices-Questionable service. I have made several purchases over the past few years, and find the service lacking. I only go back to make my wife happy. I feel like they are doing me a favor, every time I'm in there. The ladies have an attitude, as if they would rather be doing anything else, rather than helping you, and don't try to hide it. Its amazing, in these days where disposable income is shrinking, that they would treat you in this fashion, instead of being appreciative of you spending your hard earned dollars in their store. read more

I wish there was an option for zero stars. My wife's mom died recently. I was able to get one of her watches. I wanted it refurbished to give to my wife for her upcoming birthday. I asked that it be cleaned up and put in a box as if it were new. I was going to surprise my wife by telling her it wasn't new but that it was her mom's refurbished watch. I went to pick it up and other than put in a new battery it does not appear to have been touched in terms of cleaning or buffing. There is still gunk around the stem, the watch back is dirty, and bits of dirt around where the band attaches. If they even did "clean" it, they did a crappy job. I did not take it back to complain, as they had their chance the first time to do what I asked. And when I picked it up, thinking it would be in a presentation box, they said 'oh yeah', and grabbed a box that was totally incompatible with the watch style. I threw the box away when I got home. TOTAL waste of 25 bucks. And to add insult to injury, I had to endure one of the clerks flirting with the UPS guy while I made my transaction. This place is off my list permanently and I cannot recommend it to anyone. I'd have been better off going to Kohl's for help. Honoring my wife and her mom was a big deal to me. I am hurt and disappointed by the people that staff this place. They blew it big time. read more

If I could choose zero stars, I would. I was in the area and needed a charm put on a bracelet. I chose a small-town store as opposed to a franchise (Kay Jewelers, Jared, etc.) because I believe in the family-run business. I don't live in the area, but didn't mind driving back to Sycamore to pick it up. The first red flag was that there were three ladies behind the counter and not one of them greeted me. First thought - poor customer service. Turn-around time for the work was reasonable - five days or less. When I picked it up, the woman (brown-haired) showed me the work, I paid, took my jewelry and went home. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was put on the wrong link. Shame on me for not inspecting the work more closely. (When I dropped it off initially, they marked the link with a wire twist tie.). I called right away and asked what my options were. Dan said, bring it back, I will fix it. When I asked how that happened since I marked the link, he said, "When they took it off to solder it, they probably didn't remember which link it went on." My second thought - shouldn't you call the customer and ask instead of putting it where you'd like? Anyway - we agreed that I would call before taking it back to make sure he was there. He told me he would fix it right away. I called the day before to arrange a time. I spoke to Dan - he was the one who would be doing the work. When I arrived the next morning, he was out on an "emergency", said the very rude woman with brown hair. I asked why someone didn't call and let me know. She said, "It's not like he knew he wasn't going to be here. It was an EMERGENCY." I understand emergencies. I don't understand not receiving a phone call to reschedule. And I certainly don't understand blatant rudeness in customer service. The woman helping me asked the others, "What time should I tell her to come back?" The brown-haired said, "I'm not giving a time. I don't know when he'll be back. It was an EMERGENCY." Sigh. So, I leave it there, knowing I need to get home, but having no idea when they would call and tell me it was finished. To Dan's credit, he called within 35 minutes and told me it was done. Still not enough to warrant anything but an honest review on yelp with the minimum number of stars. Save yourself the anxiety, anger, and frustration. Go elsewhere. Brown hair needs to work on her manners, customer service, and social graces. I will do my part to tell everyone about my experience at D&D Jewelers in Sycamore, IL. read more
