I was also struck by how long the family has been in business here in Austin and by their outstanding reputation for both sales and services, including cleaning and repair. We began by purchasing one large rug for our living room, but I soon became fascinated by rug history and craftsmanship and went deep into researching different styles and techniques. Safi generously shared his expertise, explaining each rug's origin, age, materials, and durability. We selected several rugs in the gallery, and they brought them to our home--because nothing compares to seeing a rug in your own space. Safi helped guide me through the final decisions, truly understanding my taste and, more importantly, my reasons for choosing certain pieces--not just for value or price, but for their history, artistry, and craftsmanship. As a result, their quote was significantly more than others well-known shops. Note: Mr. Briley has since retired and it is under new management. All that said, they still do great work.

However, when I dropped my cushions off, as I was instructed to do, the woman who finally came out of the locked offices (covid) was unfriendly, and made me feel quite unwelcome. When I checked my e-mail, apparently, their system auto-generates invoices that read "past due", even if you haven't been advised that your items are ready. In my case, the invoice was wrong, and was trying to charge me for items I didn't receive, and had to be adjusted before payment, all the while continuing to dun me as though I was refusing to pay a bill. They did a very nice job, and it's unfortunate that they don't offer anything resembling a smile as part of their service. It's my guess that there are plenty of places where I can find adequate service.

It was easy since I already knew the dimensions and they went through a few huge piles to help me find what I thought would work best. After selecting several options, they pulled them out of the pile and laid them side by side on the floor for comparison. Once I made the final selection, they offered me a very good deal. I purchased the rug and it came with protective mat that went underneath. They stand by the life of the rug and you can even bring it back for cleaning. The rug I purchased was the perfect size and it looks amazing under the piano.

After 100 years, a family heirloom carpet has been restored!…read more I kept my great-grandmother's 9 x 14 rug in a closet for 25 years because I didn't know what to do with it. It was too big for my dining room, had wavey marks across the entire rug from being improperly stored and my husband didn't like it. Then I called Wooden Looms Rug Gallery. Mike, one of two brothers and a wife who owns Wooden Looms listened to my carpet's story and had the knowledge, skill and vision to restore its beauty. Knowledge: Although my husband felt the rug was dingy and worn, Mike inspected the rug and was able to reassure him that it wasn't worn and would no longer be dingy after a good washing. Mike identified the rug as a Chinese Art Deco rug, a valued antique in California. My great grandmother acquired it in the 1920's when a tenant moved out of her apartment building in San Francisco and left it behind. Skill: Mike and his brother Sam carefully measured the rug and calculated how they could cut it in order to save its beautiful floral designs in the corners. The rug had a scruffy old fringe. After cutting the rug, Mike unknotted enough of the rug's 100 year old warp threads to knot by hand a beautiful new fringe. What an amazing skill to have here in Austin! Vision: Mike could see that I loved that old rug. He helped my husband see its value and potential. Mike and Sam delivered the beautiful old rug to our house Monday night and it is perfect.
