I called from out of the area in hopes of getting an idea of the value of a couple of rugs I inherited and was looking to sell on consignment. Even though he was not accepting consignment deals, he offered to look at photos of the rugs and appraised them for free. The owner (father) does all the repairs himself, as he was trained in Egypt as a young man. He explained how my rugs are made, when, where exactly, how they clean and repair them in-house, etc...we talked extensively and they truly love what they do and it shows. I had Kashmiri rugs that had moth damage after being in storage and the cleaning and repair job was amazing. You would never know that there was any damage to the rugs! I also had them cleaned and treated for future protection. Absolutely Extraordinary! I had 3 rugs cleaned by this family. One was extra large Persian and the other 2 were Karistan in extremely bad shape with pet staining. Having cleaned the stained ones 2-3 times in the conventional manner, I was not convinced they could be cleaned. Safi promised me they could and they did! I can not say enough about the quality of work and the customer service they have provided for us. They restored two rugs back to life and made them usable again. From the moment Mr Kaskas met me at the door, I knew this was going to be a positive experience. Mr Kaskas is very professional and if all businesses treated their clients as well as he treats his, what a world that would be! Anyway, my dog chewed my oriental on a stormy night and I thought it was ruined. I took it to San Antonio and the dealer there said nothing could be done except some fringe trimming. That is when I did some research and zero'd in on Kaskas Rug Gallery from all of your great reviews. Mr Kaskas said no problem, he could fix it, gave me several options, settled on one and the result is perfect. Love this family business! I've lived around the corner from the store for over 8 yrs & finally went to see if they had exactly what I had in my mind. After showing me a few rugs, I saw 1 of 100s & wanted it in the inverted color scheme. They had exactly what I wanted in their store, but not on the floor! They brought the rug by to lay it out & see color matching to see if it was what I'd envisioned. Don't buy a rug in Austin until you've talked to the guys at Kaska's. Mr. Kaskas and his sons are all extremely knowledgeable about every type of rug imaginable. My fiancee and I picked up an extremely nice rug there about two years ago, and we've been very happy with it. On a recent trip to the middle east, we also picked up a silk rug. We brought it into Kaska's to have loops put on the back for wall hanging. Safi was able to look at the pattern and material and instantly tell us a detailed history of the rug, including were it was from, how much it was worth, and whether or not it had been altered in any way. He even offered to do the same for any other rug that we may come across... all we have to do is email him a picture. It's hard to find service like that anymore. read more

I had a rug I purchased in Dahran, Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm that was beginning to fray and also needed to be cleaned. It had a great deal of sentimental value to me. I called Mr. Kaskas and got a ball park estimate and brought it in to his Kerby Lane store. First of all, they did an excellent job at repairing the rug so I can not even tell it has ever been frayed. They also cleaned it so that it looks like it did when I first bought it. Even better, they charged a very reasonable price. But Mr. Kaskas and his son go far beyond a repair and cleaning service. They are very knowledgeable, knowing exactly what kind of rug I had and where (and appx when) it was made. They were also lovely people...willing to spend time chatting about their backgrounds, rugs, and about anything else. I left wishing I had more time to join them for tea to talk with them. I heartily endorse this place...but leave yourself time to learn when you drop in...and enjoy their hospitality! They had a wonderful selection of rugs to purchase as well! read more

These guys are great. I took our Turkish rug in to be repaired after our dog comprehensively chewed it. Safi was very friendly and professional and gave me three repair options - all expensive - but he did not make me feel as if I were under pressure. He was very knowledgeable about the best ways to repair the rug and was even able to identify where ours came from. In the end we chose the 'cheapest' option which entailed cutting off the borders of the rug and sewing the edges up by machine. They also took a small part of excised pattern from one side to plug into a larger hole on the other side. This meant that less had to be trimmed from both sides. You can definitely tell that the edges have been repaired by a machine but the pattern has not been compromised and Safi assures me that the edges can be redone by hand at any time. He also did more research about the makers of our rug and emailed it to me later. I can't recommend these guys more highly. Excellent service! I hope that next time I use them will be to buy one of the beautiful pieces they sell. read more
