Really great neighborhood joint. I go often for their take home salads and soups. Their subs are great as well. Parking can be tough during their busy hours or if their is snow on the ground. With that foundation, you can go in a million different directions: chicken salad on crackers, a chicken salad sandwich on an onion roll (yes, they sell those), throw in walnuts one day, grapes or cranberries another day, pair it with barbecue chips, or salt & vinegar chips, or even Fritos. Whatever mood you're in, you can customize D&G's chicken salad to your whim. But if you're gonna make a trip all the way out to Norwood for chicken salad, don't leave with one empty hand. Grab a six-pack of fresh onion rolls to jazz up your sandwich a bit. Or throw in a side of potato salad. As heavy on the mayo as the chicken salad is, the potato salad comes slathered in sour cream. Don't like sour cream? D&G also sells Wunderbar German bologna. You don't know Wunderbar? It is my favorite - scratch that - it is the ONLY bologna I will buy. Unlike beef bologna, Wunderbar has a subtle sweetness that I absolutely crave and many supermarkets don't carry it. But D&G does. I've only scratched the surface of what's available at D&G. Maybe the chicken salad everyone has been raving about is good but the steak and cheese is disgusting. First off the steak tasted more like ground beef or a nasty meatball or something along those lines. Second the bread was incredibly soggy and pretty much inedible. So I was driving by the sign proclaiming chicken salad greatness on almost a daily basis and one day I decided I just HAD to have it. I called my friend Tylea and told her I had to have this chicken salad straight away and she drove up from Attleboro to join me... We we rushing out the door to get chicken salad when I slipped and twisted my ankle. Okay, not just twisted, but tore cartilage and had a swell that was literally the size of a baseball. (I have pictures, you don't want to see them.) Not only did I not get chicken salad, I didn't get any food at all and I had to wear a foot cast for three months. A year or two later, I told the story to my now ex and we checked it out. Get this, the chicken salad is GREAT. Okay, maybe not the best in the whole wide world. But truly great. They also have these wonderful homemade pickles and self-branded sodas. Long overdue review. My husband grew up in Norwood and wanted to show me the "best chicken salad place" that he knew. Whoa! He was right, they're perfect! Anytime we are even close to Norwood, we go out of our way to swoop in and grab some sandwiches. The owner is wicked nice and cares about his customers too! I was having a rough day recently, and REALLY NEEDED a D&G chicken salad sandwich.. I wasn't even thinking about what time it was, and when we arrived at D&G, we discovered it had closed 3 minutes before we got there. I had a really dramatic meltdown in the car, and somehow the owner saw this. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a friendly guy waving me in; was the owner! One of the worst chicken parm sandwiches I've ever had. It's a breaded cutlet (possibly frozen) not crunchy at all. It tasted like it was microwaved in the back and the breading was soggy and falling off. The cheese wasn't even melted. I forgot to take a picture because I three it away after 2 bites. The only reason I'm not rating it lower is that the staff was very friendly and the Italian sub wasn't all that bad. Won't be back. read more

They open at 9am and Dave (the owner) saw me pull up at about 8:35. He came out to tell me to come on in. Got to chatting and made connection....he went to school with my mom. Subs are great, prices are great, you guys are more than fair with the punch cards but PLEASE Dear God, organize the lines. I have yet to go in there where there wasn't an awkward and testy "I think I was here first" "well I called ahead" "well I just ordered". People are already a bit on edge having to leave their cars hanging half onto Nahantan, lets make in and out that much easier. Im trying to do 4.5 stars but it won't let me because you're that close to being the perfect sub shop. a very small sub shop but def serves its purpose. my boyfriend loves their homemade chicken salad (and so does everyone else) but do try other stuff on the menu! They make yummy meatball subs, as well as other hot subs. They have a wall of different brands and flavors of chips too...the perfect compainion to one of their subs. Plus they have their own "brand" of soda, including rootbeer, cream soda and grape soda among others. Also, they have about 3 trivia questions up everyday and if you get one right you win a free sub!! Take advantage of their frequent buyer cards too...i think its after 10 subs you get one free. I was very disappointed today with my sandwich , it was like eating a roll with one piece of meat, that is not the normal sandwich. My friends sandwich was also extremely light on the deli meats. Last time I was there the women on the register was very slow , this time I went she was extremely slow and very very rude to customers before and also to me and my friend. D&G Delicatessen on Nahatan st. In Norwood does many things right, but none more so than their Chicken Salad. I know you're thinking Chicken salad , it's mayonnaise and chicken, what's so special. You haven't been there yet. If you had , you'ld know. They say spices as well when they list the ingredients but me thinks it's just salt and pepper. I'm convinced it's the mayo. It's definitely the mayo. They are using Ken's Extra Heavy Mayonnaise. Im familiar with it. The additional egg yolks help the emulsion of the eggs and oil stabilize, and many restaurant operators prefer using extra heavy because it prevents separating. A tuna salad made with extra heavy mayo and left in the fridge overnight will "weep" less than one made with regular---that is, it won't be sitting in a pile of liquid in the morning. Being a connosoiur of many things I have an affinity for Mayonnaise. I even put it on my steak and cheeses. I also tried a grilled cheese where you slather the bread with it instead of butter. Gross??? Au contraire. Great. I digress, the chicken is perfect. No little grizzly pieces that send your jaw off to the left upon biting. Moist ,cut large , plentiful and laquered with that magnificent eggy extra heavy mayonnaise. They do other things like soups spicy chicken salad and cranberry walnut chicken salad but why would you. They found their niche , their one thing right. They do it well. I eat it often. Every time you go in they stamp your card and when you get to 10 stamps, you get a free sandwich. They also have trivia on the wall that gets you a stamp too. Today was the day. I got my tenth stamp. I'm so proud. My next Sangie is on the house. I love D&G. Great food, great staff, great location. The only downside is the lack of parking. I work down the street from D&G, and it's our go-to for a great, quick lunch. You can call your order in ahead so it's ready when you get there, and the turnaround is super quick. They have a great deli selection, but also have daily specials (Love when they do $2 1/2 meatball subs), and things like ravioli! All-in-all a great spot. Crazy busy at lunch. read more

Unassuming local deli in Norwood. Not much to look at inside or out but they make a good chicken salad sandwich. There is street parking and it doesn't look like there is much off street parking as it is wedged in a residential neighborhood. We tried the standard chicken salad sandwich. It was a full sandwich with fresh chicken meat with bits of cranberries and walnuts. It was a filling sandwich. We also tried the spicy chicken salad sandwich and it had a little kick to it. The last 3 times that I've been to D&G Deli have been terrible! (over the course of a month) The staff has gotten my order wrong all 3 times! The last time they got it wrong, I didn't even realize it until I drove all the way home, and then I had to drive all the way back to have it corrected. Today, I ordered a cape cod chicken salad sub. Thank God I checked my sandwich before I left, because they gave me a seafood salad instead (does chicken salad and seafood salad sound the same???). When I went back inside and told them that this is the third time in a row that they got my order wrong, one of the kids said, "we make our own chicken salad", as if he didn't know what cape cod chicken salad was. You would think that a person working at a deli would know what a cape cod chicken salad is, right??? Also, I ordered a large and I'm pretty sure they put it on a small roll. The entire experience was completely disappointing, and I couldn't even enjoy my sandwich at that point. I understand that everyone's job gets busy at some points, but there's no excuse for allowing your level of customer service to suffer.
