If you've been to D&R Bagels before, forget everything you thought you knew about this place. Same name, completely different experience. Under new ownership, Clara and her team have brought a whole new energy to D&R. From the moment I walked in, everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely excited to have me there. Customer service like this is becoming rare, and it really stood out. One thing that surprised me was the size of the space. The photos online made it look like a tiny hole-in-the-wall bagel shop, but it's actually much larger than expected with plenty of seating. Even though it was busy and crowded during my visit, the line moved quickly and efficiently. As for the food, I came hungry. I tried the Korean BBQ on a sesame bagel, corned beef with mustard on an everything bagel flat, The Kyle on a blueberry bagel, a jalapeño bagel with cream cheese, and a pretzel bagel with cream cheese. I also sampled the buffalo chicken wrap, a hot coffee, and a caramel macchiato. The Korean BBQ was easily one of the most unique bagel sandwiches I've had and a standout menu item. Everything tasted fresh, portions were generous, and there are plenty of creative options you won't find at your average bagel shop. I've seen older reviews mention a lack of coffee options, but that's no longer the case. The coffee menu has been expanded, and the Iced caramel macchiato was a pleasant surprise! I also loved how they had Pepsi AND Coca-Cola PLUS Snapple! If you haven't visited since the ownership change, it's worth giving D&R another shot. The combination of friendly service, creative menu options, great coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it feel like a completely reimagined local favorite. D&R Bagels is under new management, and it shows. They're making their bagels fresh in-house daily, and the quality really stands out. At the owner's recommendation, I tried the Korean BBQ beef on a sesame bagel, and it was a fantastic choice!! The savory, flavorful beef paired perfectly with the fresh bagel, creating a sandwich that was both unique and satisfying. I also had the jalapeño bagel, which was soft, fresh, and packed with just the right amount of heat. It's clear they're putting a lot of care into both their bagels and their menu. Walked by this place and decided to try it, very happy with that decision. I may have found a new breakfast place. I was getting my car serviced and wanted food. I browsed what's available and this place popped up. I ordered the pastrami, egg and cheese on a jalapeño toasted bagel and it was great! I may double the meat and get 2 eggs next time. Admittedly, they have the best bagels in this area (that I know of). They are a little crisp on the outside but chewy inside, although not the kind you have to fight your way through each bite. They toast up wonderfully. (Heinen's bagels are horrible since switching recipes years ago. Giant Eagle has fair bagels depending on which store you go to.) HOWEVER, D&R charges almost ELEVEN dollars for six bagels? You've got to be kidding me. You can do the math for a dozen. The retort is, "well, you just said they have the best bagels". That is correct, but I will not go to the poor house so I can eat some bagels. I noted the cost at the time and did willingly pay; I was not forced at gunpoint to buy, but that may possibly be the last time. I'll be watching the price to see if they come down so I can go back, but not until then. I gave a three star rating because the bagels truly are great, but a big fat NO to the price on those things. I can be satiated by bagels acquired elsewhere, even if they are not as good as these. Unfortunate, because their big chocolate chip cookies are really satisfying as well but again, over three dollars? *** I must reiterate, that the food is very good; this review is no reflection on that. I've gone to d&r a hundred times the last few years. They have a new owner so I went to check it out. First thing I noticed is how much he hustles and how well he runs the place. Seems like he cares a lot. However, I'm posting this as a warning to anyone ordering an espresso. It says $1.90 on the menu but he rang it up as a double espresso for $2.90. It was not a double, 100% the size of a single. He said they all come as doubles and $1.90 espresso is if you want an additional extra. That wasn't consistent with the menu pricing. The cherry on top is he has a sign that says $1.00 off coffee if you order a breakfast sandwich- which I did. I was kind of testing him to see how he handled it and didn't mention it. In the end, he charged me $2.90 for a drink that was absolutely not a double espresso, when it should have been $1 off $1.90 cost $.90 cents total. I advise the owner to either change the menu price to $2.90, or actually sell doubles. The espresso is a scam, which is a shame because he bought a nice new machine which makes good drinks. Want to get yelled at for not standing in the bagel line in order to order a cup of coffee? This busy, bewildering place is worth a visit then! After ten minutes standing by the register (where the coffee and cups enticingly sit) and having order after order and "who's next" yelled to people behind and around me, I finally said "I'm next" to the cashier looking at the guy next to me. She said sharply "you need to stand over there" pointing at the bagel and sandwich ordering line." Begrudgingly she took the 15 seconds to get me a coffee. Coffee is awful by the way. This was our first time visiting D&R bagels. We went for breakfast. The weather was still nice enough that they still had a few tables set up outside for cafe-like seating. The table got a couple items to half so we could try different things. We opted for lox, eggs and onions with an everything bagel and also a corned beef and egg bagel. Both were very good. This place is awesome! My boyfriend grew up coming here and on my first visit to the city, we were so hooked that we found ourselves grabbing bagels from this place three days in a row! We've been going here ever since my now 13 y/o, would affectionately call it "The muffin place" when he was 4 (he used to get the blueberry muffin). It's been a Solon staple. Popped in to grab some lunch and decided on their Buffalo Crispy Chicken Wrap! It was the perfect amount of spiciness and the chicken was still crispy when I brought it back into the office to eat. It was a good amount of food for the price of $7. Note: you can choose the chicken to be grilled or crispy. I normally not one to grab desserts, but the offerings behind the glass case was a different story... There were a couple of cookies and I noticed a jumbo (and yes, I mean JUMBO) oatmeal raisin cookie and decided to give it a try. I would say the cookie was about 8" in diameter and that's not a normal size cookie. (Drumroll please...) That was the best oatmeal raisin cookie I have ever tasted!! This is a tough one. The food is good. Hands down bagels are fresh and delicious. The food, quality of the food, staff are all good. I have been going to these guys for years. So my review is of a veteran. Here are my issues. Cleanliness. Tables are always dirty. Even in slower times. No one is busing and cleaning tables. I clean the table when I go. It is kinda annoying because you want to sit and eat but with the tables being dirty it's difficult. My 2nd issue is not the fault of D&R. The patrons bring kids and allow the kids to run around like unsupervised hyper kids. I've seen actual running. I've seen kids standing on tables and chairs. And parents don't seem to care. It is a liability and very disconcerting for other patrons. The parents sit with friends and ignore what the kids are doing. Please stop and watch your kids! It's reflecting poorly on the business and it's not their fault you can't watch your kids. Will I go here? Yes. Do I like the establishment? Yes. Staff is nice. Prices are fair. Food is good. It's the other parts mentioned that become annoying and reflect poorly on a family business. read more

Still the best bagels in Solon! Staff takes your phone order and has it ready within 20 or so minutes, faster if it's just bagels. It's best to order early, they bake fresh everyday. I called at 1pm and they had run out of sesame bagels, which was not tragic because there are so many flavors. They are a breakfast/lunch place and close by 3pm I think. They are back really early to bake dozens of bagels & prep for the breakfast (to go) rush. Call them, and get something yummy. I do! read more

I'm a little conflicted, because my experience was so very dichotomous. The highs were epic, and the lows were pretty crushing. Let me explain: Ordering: get in line, decide what to eat, tell the person at the counter, join the mosh pit milling around the register to wait. Paying: once your order is ready, it arrives at the register, where you pay, grab your plate/tray/bag, and sit down to eat. Part 1: This is the way it's supposed to go, however after I ordered, I waited. And waited. And waited. My dining companions' orders had all been prepared, presented, and paid for. I asked several times and was assured my order was nearly ready. The people who came in behind me had left. Still no breakfast. I asked again, a different staff member this time, and strangely my breakfast order was nowhere to be found. I had to reorder my breakfast, twice, from two separate people. They apologized, but didn't offer any explanation. Or compensation. I did ask, and was given 2 extra bagels. Part 2: Finally my breakfast arrived. And it was delicious. Yum yum yum. My omelet was perfect - expertly cooked and folded, melty cheese oozing out with each forkful. The everything bagel with cream cheese was pure joy to devour. Great flavor, perfect chew. The moral of the story: go here. Obviously. But be vigilant about your order, because you might be the only one to do so. But totally worth it. read more

This place is consistent in it's inconsistency. They either have REALLY good bagels, or bagels that look and taste like you'd get out of a plastic bag at a chain grocery store. It's a shame, because they used to have the best bagels on this side of town, and some days that's true, but other times they turn in these over puffy, poorly textured and cooked frozen quality bagel. No bagels hmmmm? Bagel shop? Hmmm? That what happens when you don't watch your business.... please have bagels on Sunday.... Saturday, today, they couldn't make a bagel and cream cheese. Why you ask? Because they were closing in 30 minutes and had put everything away. If the door it states you're open then you should be open and prepared to serve customers. You should not be so worried about getting out of work that you no longer able to make a simple Bagel and cream cheese, which is supposed to be your specialty. And if you really hate your job like the young lady at the counter who couldn't find a A knife to spread the cream cheese and had to go find a plastic knife and was clearly pissed off, then you should go find a job you like. What I Got on a toasted bagel with cream cheese was an ice cold bagel with a paper thin layer of cream cheese on one side. The only reason I keep going back to D and R is they the only bagel shop and Solon. Unfortunately. Everybody needs a bagel shop in their life, and I was afraid I wasn't going to have one after moving from Toledo, but guess what! I found one. D&R was previously in a different location, and they traded up and into the plaza. I have only been to the new location. I have to assume they had a system and layout that was already in place and carried it over to the new store because it's pretty awkward and cramped when ordering and getting your food. It goes 1) Bagels 2) Order 3) Electronic menus 4) registers and waiting area 5) cream cheese and 6) lunch meats, which is pretty illogical, as is their layout for the menu. Couple hundred bucks to a graphic designer would clean up one of those issues. The bagels are pretty great. They have a great selection. You can get a lot of different combinations on them. If they displayed the beautiful cream cheese anywhere near the bagels, you might be more tempted to branch out of "regular". I've only been for lunch and the breakfast sandwiches are beyond what you can get at Starbucks, Dunkin, McDonalds, etc so it does have its place in our hearts. I haven't been for lunch, so that's probably the next step. I haven't really been tempted for lunch based on the menu layout and they don't have "signature" sandwiches. read more

The bagel are pretty good for the area, the chicken salad is great. Don't expect NY/NJ style bagels, but they are much better than Panera, Einstein or whatever other bread with holes you can get around the Cleveland suburbs. I dropped a star for the awful interpretation of a Taylor Ham/pork roll and cheese. A few issues - they told me to put my own ketchup on the sandwich made to go. There was barely any meat on the sandwich. And they added egg which I explicitly asked them not to do. Instead of making a new one when I pointed this out, they just took the egg off. It still tasted like egg. I guess this is better than nothing, but basically any random bagel shop in NJ is better than this. read more

As a former New Yorker (born and raised in the Bronx, lived in Manhattan for 20 years), I'm not easily impressed by bagels beyond the Hudson River. The bagels at D & R are practically as good as New York bagels. They make very good bialys too (which are very hard to find outside the Five Boroughs, regardless of the quality).
