The best grinders in the inland empire. I've been eating here my entire life. My parents have been coming here before I was born. This is a staple of living in the I.E. I order the ham grinder almost every time. I've tried them all. It's your personal preference on the meat but for me it's all about the bread. The wonderful crunch is amazing. Their motto is "It's the Bread", it should be "It was the Bread" because on this visit the bread was soft and definitely not the same. After 50 years of visiting the University store I believe I can be qualified to make that call. Additionally, the staff at 6:45 pm was slow and not attentive at all. I waited almost 10 minutes just to place my order and although the sandwiches were prepared quickly, I returned to the counter and waited again while their staff all has observed me waiting for nearly 5 minutes until the girl who was cleaning the booths returned to ask me to move to another station. I simply requested mayo and additional oil and vinegar. She stated they were all out of oil and vinegar. I ask how were they making their sandwiches where she stated they can't give me any from behind the counter. Within a few minutes, the same girl gave another guest "oil and vinegar". The customer service during this visit was an epic failure. It's unfortunate and somewhat sad to have been a long time customer, to watch the quality of their trademark Grinders drop so drastically...almost to the point we probably will have to think twice as to wether we want to be subjected to the loss of what was very fond memories of their once great grinders to what we can get at a chain store for much less. read more

I had the beef dip sandwhich and it was the most awful sandwhich I have ever had in my life. The meat tastes cheap and nasty and the dip tastes exactly like the gross meat. Do not get it. I have been going to this place since high school. I love their sandwiches. And their bread is very good quality. The ONLY complaint I have is regarding the cleanliness. I ordered my food, then went to find a seat. Almost every seat was taken (signs of good food) BUT as I looked around for a seat I noticed there was food (lettuce, tomato, meat, etc.) covering all of the floor! the only clean place was outside and it was fairly chilly. so I had to enjoy my good food quickly because I was quite cold. read more

I have heard people just love this place,I have had it twice and thought it was ok, but since I was in Riverside and starving decided to try it fresh. Went at lunch time and place was pretty packed. I received my veggie sandwich pretty fast but had to wait about 25 minutes for my moms hot sandwich. I guess there was a mistake and she was told she would have to wait 10 more minutes. She was upset and starving so she asked for a cold sandwich. They ended up giving her a sandwich for free (that was nice). So when I finally got to eat the sandwich was once again ok. I'm told they are well know for the type of bread they use, but I didn't find it to be anything note worthy. The bread was dry and did not work well for the loaded vegetarian sandwich I got. I'm told by my meat eater friends the meat sandwiches are really good. If you're vege, you'll likely find Subway or Quiznos a tastier option. I prefer to support local business though. read more

The first time I ate here I got the french dipped sandwich. It was pretty good with a fair amount of meat on it. That was a few years ago. Recently took my parents there for lunch and ordered a cold sub. I was so disappointed! There were only 4 thinly sliced pieces of roast beef, very little lettuce, cheese, and tomato. Holding it up, basically all I could see was bread! Paid close to $5 with no pepronccinis (because they charge extra for that). Wished I had just gone to subway and got way more veggies AND pepronccinis. If I ever go back, I'll stick to ordering the french dipped. read more

Many people like this place that has been here since the 50's but I personally did not like their sandwiches. "It's all about the bread" is their slogan, and their fresh made bread is good but not great. The sandwich comes dry or you can put their soy oil on it, but no vinegar based dressing on their Italian grinder which is a must for me. It made the sandwich kind of bland especially with the tons of bread you get per bite. The place is not very clean and looks like an unkept low end Mcdonalds, not a sandwich shop. It`s cheap and all but I would rather go to SubStation or even Subway if money`s a big deal. There`s like one slice of meat in the sandwiches and it just isn`t enough to taste the sandwich. I don`t understand why they promote their bread so much because mine was pretty dry, although, they were the last two slices of the day so that may have been the reason. However, it was also very crumbly and it was just unnecessarily hard to eat and not make a mess at the same time. Like another reviewer said, I think this is a love-it-or-hate-it place. As a Riversider born and raised, in the love-it camp. (Maybe the fact that my mom's pregnancy cravings were for their hot pastrami has something to do with it.) My absolute fav is the cappacola, extra meat, extra cheese and extra oil. Yes, you can go to Subway and get a generic foot-long for five bucks, but the only thing these two places have in common is they both sell meat and cheese between bread. I just came back from D'elia's and was not disappointed with the food. I ordered a meatball sub and potato salad. Their potato salad is very flavorful and the meatball sub was extraordinary. The bread and the meat created this harmonious texture... the moistness from the meatballs and the crunchiness of the bread. As I finished my sub, the meat, cheese and the bread became one, as it were. Not like Subway, where the meatballs slide off the bread and the sauce spills everywhere. My boyfriend and I decided to try some authentic Riverside food and found this place just down the street. I don't remember exactly what I had, but my boyfriend had the meatballs. After multiple recommendations to try this restaurant I have to say I was very disappointed. We ordered five sandwiches and two sides over the phone. We were told it would be about 30 minutes. I arrived after 40 minutes and still had to wait another half hour. 20 minutes after arrival the employee handed me two sides and told me to have a good day. I politely asked where my five sandwiches were and the employee sighed and turned around and walked away. 10 minutes later she returned with the five sandwiches, handed them off, and walked away. When we got home all 5 sandwiches had rock hard bread and were fairly tasteless. Also, none of the sandwiches had any of the modifications we had asked for. The only silver lining was that the pasta and potato salad was pretty good. I have to say that we were very disappointed and with the multiple other sandwich restaurants in the area I can't say that we'll likely return. read more

I've grown quite fond of D'Elia's on visits over the last year - so much so that another Yelper accused me of working for them when I said more disparaging things about another grinders shop in town. I tend to order the tuna and a side of potato salad. If I'm feeling like eating real meat, I'll get the salami. I think a 3.5 is right. I had a pastrami sandwich and they very heavy on the meat which I like. It reminded me of a sandwich that I'd get at The Hat. Grinder roll was flakey but a little too hard than I think I'd like. Fairly cheap stop for lunch. I'd come back when in the area for a super quick lunch. read more

I grew up eating D'Elia's Grinders and they are favorite sandwich hands down! I moved away from Riverside in 1974, but visit the shop whenever I visit. These sandwiches are a must-have. The Ham Grinder and Capacolla Grinder are my favorite. read more

This place was great it's starting to go down hill the employees that work there are just clerks and order takers. Delias need to hire people that are happy to work there and can have smiles on their faces. Went there today and I asked for a simple wrapping of my halves separately and they told me "unfortunately they can't" seriously what happened to customer service. I drive from Hollywood for grinder cravings. My mom grew up on Delia's grinders, I grew up on them and anytime my family comes to visit from VA - they fly into Vegas and drive to Delia's where we always meet up. Best. I come here from time to time, I don't care for the bread it's really hard and flakey, crumbs get all over me and in my bra but I'm not feeling too good in my stomach right now so I think some dry dry bread will benefit me. And my experience to day was mind blowing an employee opened another check out due to long lines. He said I can help the next person in line which the next person was my handy cap husband with a cane. As we were walking towards the register a member of riverside city council, jumped in front of us and ordered.
