This location was previously known as the historic Joseph Filippi winery. Not sure of the details of the new lease/operators, but what I do know is that they have made the space beautiful again, and they also have some really fun events. I attended a charcuterie class a few months ago, and most recently I came to hear a super cool jazz band called Sunset Chardonnay. As for the wine, I love that they are working with local grapes AND that they also have wines from other areas in California, especially my favorite Pinot Noirs from Santa Barbara and Santa Rita Hills. D'Ellena Winery is located at the historic J Filippi Winery, preserving the wine history of the Cucamonga Valley. I really wanted to love this place, especially because they are saving a historic winery, one of the very few left in the Cucamonga Valley. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience. My husband and I were the first ones to arrive on the second Sunday after the winery opened to the public. Devon poured for us was not very knowledgeable about wine, but she had great attitude and to me that goes a long way. She greeted us with a smile and we felt welcomed and a little excited. I would give this business a one star if it wasn't for her. They were pouring the wines from their winemaker produced under his personal label. They also talked about building a patio and replanting the estate vineyard. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like they are interested in planting any of the historic varietals of the area, such as Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet, Palomino or Chenin Blanc. The tasting menu included several flights, each one with three pours. We ordered the Cucamonga Valley Flight and the Santa Barbara Valley Flight so we could try most of of their wines. I am very familiar with the wine history of the region and although I have tasted many old vine Zinfandels from the area, on this occasion I was very excited about the old vine Palomino from the historic Lopez Vineyard in the Cucamonga Valley. The other two wines in the flight were two Old Vine ZInfandels also from Lopez Vineyard. One of them was a Late Harvest. The second flight included a Roussanne from Stolpman in Los Olivos, a Chapel Pinot Noir from Santa Rita Hill and a Valley View Syrah from Los Olivos. We started our tasting with the whites. Not particularly our style, but there was nothing wrong with them. Then, we proceeded with the Pinot Noir and it was absolutely horrible. We were sure the wine was corked, but decided to wait until the couple standing next to us would try their Pinot Noir to get their opinion. They agreed with us, so we informed Devon that the wine had gone bad, so she promptly opened a new bottle and pour again. This time the wine tasted like wine and was completely different than the first pour we received. After this I tried the dry Old Vine Zin. This one I believed had been tainted with Volatile Acidity, a wine defect that happens when the wine is exposed to a lot of oxygen and makes the wine taste very acidic, similarly to vinegar. So, I expressed how sorry I was for complaining again, but explained that the zinfandel was also bad. This time Devon did not make a decision on her own and instead called in Maria, the "Somm", who proceeded to tell me that I did not know what Zinfandel taste like and that there was nothing wrong with the wine and that I just never tried this style of winemaking. I find it very interesting that Maria came to this conclusion without knowing me, what I know or my experience in wine. I wonder... I tried to explain to her that I know very well what zinfandel taste like with or without oak, jammy and concentrated or with minimal intervention; but she just would not listed. I asked if they taste each bottle before they start pouring it, -which is standard practice in all wineries, to which she responded "of course". But if that is true, and we were the first customers that day, how come the Pinot Noir was bad? Yet another unanswered question... At this point I was appalled by the lack of customer service, arrogance and condescendence of this person towards me. And honestly, I did not want her agree with me. I just wanted her to taste it herself and give me the benefit of the doubt. If she would have tasted the same bottle and then told me that is the way the wine is supposed to taste like, fine. I would have been okay with it. The part that made me the most upset is that she would not taste it and simply continued to tell me I was wrong. That is terrible customer service from Maria and the D'Ellena Winery and with that attitude, and with two bad wines out of six pours, I don't see this business ever surviving, regardless of whatever improvements they make to the property. read more

D'Ellena opened its doors about three months ago, pouring wines made of Cucamonga Valley, Santa Ynez, and Santa Barbara grapes. This used to be the location of the historic J. Filippi Winery, which was part of the local history of winemaking for many years. Currently, they are only pouring inside the tasting room, but we were told that they have plans to build a patio/deck tasting area and replant the estate vineyard. It was just their style of winemaking. We're not novice wine drinkers and Zinfandel happens to be one of our favorites, so we've had many Zins from all over, including the Cucamonga Valley. We asked if they taste each bottle before they start pouring it, which is standard practice, to which she responded "yes". Unfortunately, they didn't catch the corked Pinot Noir, and our feeling was that this bottle was not right either. My wife was quite upset that Maria pushed back so hard on this wine, and we were shocked that she wouldn't even taste it. We were just hoping that she would have tasted the same bottle and then told us that it is the way the wine is supposed to taste, then it would have been okay with us. We taste at a lot of wineries, and only on one other occasion has the staff argued with us about the taste of the wine. Not the best customer service, in my opinion. Unfortunately, with two bad wines out of six pours, I'm not sure I would return for another try, which is too bad because we really would love to support the wineries and history of the Cucamonga Valley. read more

Robin and I stopped in on a day we were running around town to various events. This was a nice respite. It has a nice relaxing feel and the service was friendly. There was a class going on, and I look forward to finding out more about what they offer. We each tried a tasting flight and enjoyed trying some new wines. We are looking forward to going back. As a very longtime visitor to Joseph Filippi Winery, I was sad when it closed. Rancho Cucamonga needs to retain a winery at this location for historical and community reasons, and the new iteration of the old property has pulled it off in a big way. I'll start my review with the most important thing: the wine! Any real wine lover knew that the wine from the old winery left a lot of room for improvement, but D'Ellena is putting itself on the map by choosing their new winemaker. Ryan's wines are all amazing, while remaining affordable and varied. My favorite is the 2020 Late Harvest Zinfandel, but I had a 2021 Syrah last week that's an easy #2. Ryan makes both reds and whites, so no matter your preference, you'll find something you like. Wine flights run $10-$13 and each one includes three pours. Individual glasses can also be purchased for consumption on-site. And that's where D'Ellena has gone above and beyond to make a wine tasting visit so fun - they completely redid the interior, from floor to ceiling, with a new sound system, a flat screen on the wall that plays muted wine- and food-related content, and multiple lounge areas and couches for comfortable tasting for solo guests or groups. They even have WiFi -- the old place didn't, but now I take my tablet and get a little work done while sipping. They've modernized the entire site but left the historical bar inside, so if you've gone in the past, you'll remember the round wine bar where there's plenty of room to stand and hang out. The staff is new, with one familiar face from the prior owners. They are knowledgeable, well-trained, very quick to help, and a lot of fun. Every time I've gone, which is several times now since they reopened the first week of October, there have been engaging conversations and a level of familiarity which makes us feel welcome and appreciated. If you're looking for a fun girls' night out or date night or just a quick taste before taking wine to an event, give them a shot! They've only been open about seven weeks now, so not everyone's aware they are even open yet (hence a couple reviews mentioning it being 'empty,' which is something I've never seen, there are always people stopping in) but there are a lot of new things on the horizon. Everyone there is smiling, it's a classy place, and it's exactly what Rancho Cucamonga and the local wine scene needs. I don't have a clue why anyone would say anything less than stellar about this winery. The staff (Maria, Devon, and Erin) have always gone out of their way to roll out the red carpet any time I've come in, by myself or with friends and they treat their guests amazing. The vibe is super chill, great energy, the new game room is a huge addition, as well as really talented artists on Friday nights is a vibe with friends. The wine is fantastic! I personally love the Syrah and Pinot Noir. This is the most underrated winery I've been too and I've been to many. Highly recommend! read more

We actually like the way D'Ellena Winery is going after the re-opening. We like what plans they have in the future, making it a more enjoyable place "to hang" and be with friends. One thing for sure, even though they have a limited selection so far, the wines taste better in our opinion. The staff is fantastic - very helpful, knowledgeable & friendly. The only thing I suggest is to keep some of the old "charm". The buildings are historic with plenty of stories. We actually have been involved in "couple of stories" regarding the past as well ;). Visited the new winery in October 2025. I was very pleased with the new updates inside of the tasting room. I really enjoyed their wines much better than the previous. It was nice to see Devon, a familiar face to this new winery! I also met the winemaker Ryan. I cannot wait for them to remodel/update the exterior. They have pictures of their plans in the tasting room. I had great customer service and a wonderful wine tasting experience. I will definitely visit them again when I come back to visit my family this year. I had been a wine club member of JF winery for years before moving out of state and I am looking forward to see what D'Ellena Winery has planned for this site. My wife and our group have been coming here for years and were happy that the winery was staying when ownership changed hands. Until they implemented a corking fee for their own wines. What? We decided to visit this winery since we used to always enjoy Joseph Filippi Winery and always had a good time. But this was a completely different experience and will never come back to D'Ellena Winery. The 2 women working were very unwelcoming and judged our group since we were lively and talkative. Since we were little too "loud" for their liking, they accused us of being intoxicated which we were not. We had just finished lunch and this was our first stop of our girls day and were not intoxicated. We decided to leave and take our business to another winery that had to problem with our lively group. Would not recommend coming to this winery. read more

I visited on Saturday and had a pleasant experience. The attendant was nice and helpful and it was a busy day with many customers, much more than I have seen at Joseph Fillipi when it was in operation. More importantly, the quality of the product is way better. I had a glass red zinfandel and another of red wine. I would put it at the same level of anything you can get from Temecula or Napa. Probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a winery. Walked in and it was empty, went to bar to place our order. There were two employees working at the time and both ignored us so we waited and didn't think much of it until another customer walked in and they ordered and served before us. When I finally asked the employee that we're ready to place our order, the manager asked how much we had to drink... mind the fact this was 1pm! I was so caught off guard and shocked. Our girls day to have fun and hangout at a winery was just ruined. We left and took our business elsewhere. Never again will I go here. Never. read more
