Got a referral from a friend for Crystal and she's transformed my hair! Amazing curly/wavy cut with great grow out. Introduced me to DesignMe products which have also been transformational. She was using them to finish my hair and I loved how it looked, so I asked her for the rec (there's zero pushing of products from the salon or anything, something I always worry about). She's also given me really helpful home styling tips when I asked. When I first started going to Crystal, I was hyper price conscious of going to the salon for color, and had done some home dye. Crystal wasn't judgemental or offended, and in fact gave me GREAT tips for doing color at home! Her cut prices are super reasonable for LA, especially relative to how good the cut is (it's GREAT). I'm going gray, and strategized a blending plan with Crystal and she's been moving me from dye red to natural dark blonde w/ highlights to blend the gray. She alleviated my worries in making the transition, and hasn't been overly pushy on pricey highlights. She did them in a way that I wouldn't need touch-ups/to get them done regularly, in fact. She also told me what toner/developer to buy from Sally's to tone my hair between appointments, which I really appreciate. I can't believe how much I love my (mostly natural) hair now! My review is after my Magic Sleek treatment with Deborah, the owner of the salon. When I called Deborah prior to making an appointment I asked how long the treatment lasted and she said at least 6 months. She also told me based on what I told her, the cost of my treatment would be from $375-$475. Not only did my treatment cost $550 (plus of course a tip), my treatment didn't even last three months! I understand how long it lasts depends on how often I wash my hair, but I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. I'm very disappointed that I threw money in the trash. Also, she claimed that it doesn't smell and it smelled awful for the first month minimum every time I washed and blow dried my hair. read more

Okay, I have A HAIR nightmare story and D Miller was my absolute salvation. I trusted a highly rated salon (600+ reviews, 5 stars) with a deep plum hair color. Needless to say, mistakes were made, and I felt like a Sesame Street character (Elmo but purple - no bueno). Honestly, as I was telling my stylist today, I haven't had the best of luck with LA stylists for 10years, why I thought a new stylist could tackle such a bold color adventure...no idea...guess we are meant to learn lessons the hard way. Thankfully, my coworker raves about D Miller and knew I was super upset about this failed plum experiment I had at the other salon, so she hooked me up with Deborah. Schedules not aligning Deborah introduced me to Ciara and I AM SO ENDLESSLY grateful! Ciara spent almost 5 hours triaging my hair with a bleach bath, moisturizing mask and redoing color. The video/pictures speak for themselves and Ciara's incredible labor of love to right what had been done to my hair was nothing short of miraculous. After the debacle of failed color, I was more than ready to get some more natural color and OMG did Ciara deliver. Her professionalism, patience and enthusiasm to fix this was incredible! We had some good laughs over the initial situation and she put me at ease through the whole process, walking me step by step and color by color of what she was doing to course correct. I live in Studio City and as a big advocate of supporting local businesses, I walked in to Hair Lounge to make an appointment for a haircut and warmly greeted by Crystal Rivadeneira. We fairly immediately determined that she would be a good stylist for my needs, which are pretty basic. Upon making the appointment for the Thursday ahead, I was explicit in conveying that I would be traveling immediately after the appointment. Day before I reached out via text to double confirm on my end, which she reciprocated. I also mentioned that if she had any later I would be up for that. She asserted that the scheduled time of 3:30pm was perfect. The day of the appointment Crystal reaches out an hour before to say she is running behind unexpectedly and that it would be best to reschedule. I politely reminded her that I wasn't available the next day, and if she's running late, not a problem. She proceeded to say it best to cancel and thank you anyways. As a new client, I was floored. She clearly prioritized an existing client and completely disregarded the fact that I had to cut out of work early and arrange childcare pick up to make the 330 appt. Unbelievably unprofessional. I ended up getting a last minute referral to a reliable stylist in Silver Lake who took me that night after his last client, in a timely fashion, with the best attitude, and a great cut to go along with it. A friend suggested Jenny to me, and I'm so glad I went to her for my annual haircut! Yes, that's right. Annual. I bleached and dyed my hair for a trip to Spain over a year ago, so by the time I sat in Jenny's chair, there was quite a bit of damage to get through. She was easygoing, fun, and so engaging throughout the haircut. She did mention that since there are still some colored bits left at the ends, I should come back in a couple months to get that trimmed off, but she was NOT pushy and I felt absolutely no pressure. I wish I could give this place a positive review, I really do. I came in here quoted at 3 hours for a color and cut job, which I needed because I'm producing an ENORMOUS event with international celebrities that evening. I hadn't had a haircut in a year too, so this was very necessary. I arrive at 9am ready to go. That's where things begin. The stylist, bless her heart, messes up my color request FOUR times, leaving no time to even cut my hair as I booked (yet still charging for the measly trim). I spent hours 4-6 in tears, hungry, and very late. Not to mention she was dropping hair dye and bleach all over me/my clothes and knocked over bottles of hair products while at the wash bowl. I had no choice but to leave and pay the bill (almost $300) as I was already an hour late for my event that I, again, am in charge of. At the end of it, the color is still incorrect, I didn't get my hair cut like I paid for, and I get to have weird highlights while speaking in front of hundreds of people. Not to mention the dye residue on my forehead and face. The two stars are for the staffs kindness. I appreciate the team trying their best to damage control, but it shouldn't have taken 6 hours in the first place. The staff is friendly and helpful, but did not succeed with me. I was visiting Los Angeles from NY and was in desperate need of a color correction. I Chose D Miller Hair Lounge because of the reviews and Ciara was my colorist. I had stopped coloring my hair and what was left of my old color had turned into a horrible brassy gold. Ciara transformed my old color into a beautiful, neutral light brown. It's weeks later and no gold is poking through. I get so many compliments on my hair! thanks Ciara - I will be back in January! Moving this review to her new salon because Selene is amazing and I want everyone to know! I've been back to see her several times since but I think this review conveys my feelings appropriately. I decided that it was time to try some creative color in my hair. After extensive yelp research, I came across Salon Red (former salon) and SELENE. I fell in love with the photos on the yelp page and her instagram profile and HAD to book an appointment. Unfortunately, other people already knew about Selene and since I have a day job, I had to wait 3 months to get an appointment on the weekend. Let me tell you, it was worth it! I wanted some hidden color because I work in an office and also my mother just wouldn't go for it if it was all over. I saw that Selene had done it before so I knew she would do a great job on mine. I asked about a few colors when we had our consultation and she made some recommendations based on the texture of my hair so as to not damage it by over bleaching. When the day finally came, I let her go to town. She dyed me magenta, purple, and pastel pink, all hidden by hair that she highlighted to brighten everything up. She made sure to color the hair in such a way that wouldn't require constant upkeep - it should fade nicely and create a whole new look. She was having a great time and I was having a blast. She gave me a blowout and tried a little updo to show off the otherwise-hidden color. When it came time to pay, I found myself paying a completely reasonable price! The last time I colored my hair was in NYC so my scale is a little different but I would have paid even more than this to feel the way I feel now. Seriously, my favorite place to relax. I've had my hair done by Jenny and Todd and love them both. They both do excellent cuts and blow outs. Todd has this fun technique called a "dusting" for cutting hair and always has something fun to talk about. When Jenny puts curls in my hair, the curls hold for days. Also, I get mimosas every time I'm here. They do mimosas with pomegranate. The salon itself is very clean and well lit.
