A close friend referred me to Cindy after I had a failed attempt to go blonde from burgundy with another hairdresser. I arrived at her salon with bright orange hair that had sustained some damage from the previous process. I understood this transformation would take several months, possibly even a year, and I was willing to commit to that. When I first walked in, the young man at the reception was dismissive and, at times, almost rude. However, I was there for Cindy, so I decided to overlook his behavior. Cindy seemed very nice, and after my first few visits, I left feeling very happy with my hair--something I consistently made sure to tell her. I saw her several times over the following months but started to notice a pattern. After a few days, the toner began to fade, and my hair would revert to a brassy color. During my last visit, she left about an inch to an inch and a half of my roots uncolored when she added new highlights. She offered an excuse, claiming it was all part of the process. I was becoming less convinced over time. The last time I was there I realized that I had left a brush at her salon and wanted to retrieve it before leaving town. When I returned, she was busy with another client and asked me how my hair was feeling. I mentioned that I was seeing "some" breakage, which was actually quite significant, but I didn't want to criticize her in front of her client. I tried to be diplomatic in my response. After returning home from my trip, I attempted to schedule my next appointment, but Cindy was unresponsive for close to two weeks. I had a feeling she was upset with me. When she finally got back to me, she essentially "fired" me. She explained that she didn't feel comfortable doing my hair anymore because I wasn't taking the necessary steps to keep it in optimal condition, and for the sake of my hair's health, she wouldn't be working with me any longer. I thought she was joking. I had purchased every expensive product she suggested and had been following her instructions diligently. I suspect she was upset because I expressed my dissatisfaction during my last visit, as I didn't want to leave the salon looking like my roots had already grown out. Additionally, I didn't like how the last interaction went between her and her assistant. Usually, after Cindy finishes the coloring, she starts to dry my hair. If a new client walks in, she'll attend to them, and her assistant will finish the blow-drying. However, during my last appointment, after I voiced my unhappiness about my roots, her assistant left me halfway done to help Cindy with a new client. I sat in the chair for several minutes, thinking she would return to finish my hair. She didn't come back until I asked if she was going to finish blow-drying my hair. Did she expect me to leave the salon with wet hair? If I hadn't said anything, that's exactly what would have happened! How strange is that? Cindy's excuse for "firing" me seemed completely unfounded, especially since I had been careful with my words to avoid criticizing her in front of her client. She informed me that she didn't appreciate me speaking negatively about her work in front of another client, but I truly knew I had been diplomatic. Besides, if she didn't want to hear my honest response, she shouldn't have asked me in front of her client. I understand that Eddy James isn't a fancy Beverly Hills salon, but I believe I'm not the only client who expects a certain standard of service for the money paid. Despite receiving a "friends and family" discount through my close friend, the services were still not inexpensive, and I consistently tipped Cindy and her assistant well. It's clear I bruised her ego, and that is likely the real reason she didn't want to deal with me anymore. Regardless of the situation, it's my hair, and I deserve to be happy with the results. read more

Professional Knowledge 2. Non "Catty" Personalities 3. Reasonably Priced I have to say this is the first time I have found all three qualities in a stylist. The last few stylists I had were great however I always felt some sort of cattiness within the salon. This has never been the case at Eddy James. I have been going here now for about a year and I don't think I could ever go anywhere else. Tip: Ladies, you must try "tape in hair extensions". Ask for Stephanie. She can do them and all sorts of colors (see picture) they are the most comfortable extensions to sleep in and they last for several weeks! All in all a great place to visit regularly! Shannon Garst is amazing! The Salon is cute and has a fun vibe! Shannon is also super friendly and easy to talk too! She now does our whole family...2 kids and hubby! For me there isn't a day that goes by that I don't get a compliment on my color! It's always perfect every time I go! Ernesto is the BEST! First of all, he's soooo nice and sweet. Second, he listens to what you want and really wants you to love the cut and love your hair. Third, he's easy on the eyes ;) I've been going to Ernesto for a few years and while I've kept my hair pretty simple with just layers (in my effort to stop the highlighting madness of my past), a lot of my friends see him and they ALWAYS have really great cuts and styling. Studio City must be the hairstylist Mecca. The streets are awash with stylists catering to every type of client from blue haired octogenarians to the uber-rich If you're like me, you want a stylist that gives you a designer cut, without costing so much that you have to brown bag it the rest of the month. Eddy has the chops and the integrity to do that. He's confident without being cocky. He has cut hair for so many years (since high school) that his experience is invaluable My regular salon was unavailable so I stopped in for a cut and color. (Yes, I'm a guy but who wants grey hair?) As the dye in my hair was working away, I watched him style a woman seated to my right. She looked great when he finished but she wanted it shorter. He said, "let's wash it first. Your hair is very curly. We can always cut it shorter afterward". Now isn't that what we are all looking for? Somebody to give you what you want, even if it isn't what you ask for? Needless to say, I'm very happy with my hair. But afterward, I realized that I inadvertently lost part of my glasses. They wrapped the arms with foil so they wouldn't be stained with the dye. When I pulled off the foil, I pulled off one of tips on the earpiece. I don't know exactly what they are called, but look at a pair of glasses with metal frames and you'll see there are little plastic thing-ama-jig hooks that go around your ears and keeps you from stabbing yourself in the head. If you buy your prescription glasses anywhere but Sears, you know they are ridiculously expensive and it's not simple to buy "parts". So when I called the salon this morning. I had little hope it could be found. But an hour later, they called to say they found it. Wow. You guys rock!! read more

This is a comment specifically about Eddy James. My mother was his loyal client for over 20 years. My dad often drove her to the appointments and Eddy always admired my dad's '56 Chevy. About a year ago my dad began suffering from dementia and had to give up driving. He offered the Chevy to Eddy who told my dad that he should sell him the car for far under value and that he would do my moms hair for free for the "rest of her life." My dad was an incredibly honest person with great integrity and he agreed to Eddy's deal. Sadly my dad had a stroke and passed away 5 weeks ago. I asked Eddy to please come to the house to just cut mom's hair for my dad's funeral. It would probably be the last haircut I would ask him for as I was moving her to assisted living. She was very weak and couldn't go out, saving her strength for the funeral. Eddy wouldn't answer my calls or messages and finally told me that he would only do her hair in his studio. It never happened. My mom passed away 2 days ago and he never touched her hair after cheating my senile father out of his car and immediately re-selling it. If you care about what kind of person owns the businesses you patron then avoid this place. He is bad bad news. read more

If I could give Eddy James zero stars I would. He ruined my hair and my self confidence all in one day. I walked in there with long beautiful dark brown hair and I decided that I wanted to get ombre on my hair since my birthday was coming up. I showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted and his assistant and him both said that they could do it. A couple bowls of bleach later, and a botched haircut he destroyed my hair. He did NOT give me the ombre I wanted and he killed my hair with all of that bleach. I went back the next day to let him know that I didn't like it and he tried to fix it...which only made it worse. I don't know how he let me walk out of his salon looking like a clown; the worst part was I had to hear it from my friends that my hair was so messed up. They charged me $150 and then I went to a different hair dresser who had to fix his mess, which was very hard. I had to go back to her three times so that I could wear my hair down with confidence; and I am still not happy with my hair. Now a month later I have to cut four inches off my hair because my ends are DEAD from all of the bleach that Eddy James put on my hair and I still don't have the ombre that I want. Thanks Eddy James for nothing! I will never be coming back to him or anyone in his salon because him and his five assistants let me walk out looking like the way I did. read more

Receptionist - friendly, professional, helpful and able to squeeze me in as a late night request when i called on my way home from work - love that! salon - nice, clean, parking across the street metered, they had great products and seemed to be totally up to date with all hair trends, feather extensions and all that jazz.... Ernesto - as a beauty professional, I am so picky and sometimes critical about others. Ernesto was awesome. Kept the focus on me, asked about my life, great sense of humor, entertaining and personable. Also, LISTENED to what I wanted and did exactly that. As for my hair, I had a hair disaster over the summer and had to chop my long luscious locks off and put a rinse over the color to cover it up. He did exactly what I asked for! He didn't try to talk me into anything extra like deep conditioning, gloss, color, etc... He totally got that I am trying to grow my hair back out and don't want to dye it again. He took my ugly bob and made it look stylish and low maintenance - which is how I am. He also told me to stop cutting it and when I get bored to just get a blo-dry. Zaida is the worst ever- she bleached my hair white, fried it completely and thans to her my hair broke off in chunks and i had to get a hair cut. She even tried to charge me to fix it. She seemed to act as if it wasnt her fault- she was the hair stylist she should have told me if she thought my hair wasnt in good shape... but she didnt at all, infact when i asked if a lifter would be better, she insisted bleach would work best, as she continued to stare at her watch over and over. I have been going to see Eddy for over 10 years, and I can tell you - he ROCKS! Eddy will listen, and do what you want. More fun, sometimes he mentions a new "toy" of his, which is an ultra-cool color most of the time, and I just tell him to "play." I love letting Eddy play with my long, noticible hair. Time and time again, I have people complimenting whatever inovative color or style or cut (the super-long shag was awesome!) Eddy created for me, and they clamor to go see my stylist - of course, who I'm happy to share. Eddy can do anything from conservative to extreme, and he does it so well. My all time favorite was a dark chocolate with royal purple "peek-a-boo" panels that was so well done that I kept it for a year, and the reactions I got never stopped! So I am sitting there waiting for Berta to start my hair when some random girl grabs my bag and starts walking away with it...WTF.. It took me a good second or two to politely tell her that that is my bag. lol. Naive me thought it was Berta moving me to another chair until I realized it wasn't Berta after all. It was not until Eddy told her she is walking away with my bag when she realized what she had done. It was quite the interesting experience. I did not suspect that she was 'stealing' it but I guess I could be a little more conscious of leaving my bag around. Backstory: The hairstylist was playing a hiding game with her client's daughter and I guess the child told her she had hid her bag next to me. It was quite funny, after. =D Anyway, Berta did a great job with my hair! I got some highlights and a 'glaze' to slowly transition out of the ombre look. I liked my hair at the salon but I truly began to love it a couple of days after. It needed time to marinate. The salon is really cute with the outside patio. I did not feel judged like I do at other salons and the stylists and front desk girls were all very friendly. Here's the kicker: As the owner was leaving for the day, he grabbed my bag(as a joke) and headed for the door. Now that was funny. This salon has personality. I'm a sucker for people with personality. I would most definitely recommend Berta and this salon! read more

I went today and even though I had never been there before, I was treated like a princess!! I was lucky enough to have Eddy take care of me; he listened to what I wanted and did the best version of "me". He did my color, amazing, like 4 different colors, and a fantastic cut.. He is my guy from now on. The people were so nice; Kai was his assistant, and he made me feel so comfortable.. Everyone in the salon was nice and I felt very comfortable. I hadn't gotten my hair done in a long time because my previous hair stylist went out of business because of covid, & I had no idea where to go. I made the appointment without knowing anything about them except for online, so they exceeded my expectations. An amazing experience!!! Best color ever! If you need a change go to Eddy. I was in here on Thursday for a color and cut. Here's the positives and negatives below. Positives- The salon is very clean Greeter up front is very nice and they are always prompt in getting you what you water, coffee, etc I have allergies and I needed to read the box and they were patient with me through that as I know that can be annoying. Overall they are very friendly They know hair but they will do their own thing so you have to be more experimental Negatives- I've actually been here before and it's fairly pricey even for LA. I usually spend 200 including tip for a cut and color This time my total out the door was 300. I had shown several pictures before they started my hair and my hair looked nothing like the pictures I showed when it came out. When they first took the towel off I said hmm I don't really like the streaks in the front. They toned the streaks down but didn't remove them so pretty much left what I didn't like. I guess overall I wouldn't have minded paying so much for my hair if I got the best look ever. But I do think at a certain point a stylist should say hey I'm doing "xyz" to your hair, it's going to be more pricey than last time, are you ok with that? So the person is not stuck with sticker shock once they pay. Overall, not the best experience but not the worst. read more

I walked in without ever having any personal referral: simply off of appearance (believe it or not). I had always driven by it and thought it was very well-kept and manicured salon - saw it had recently expanded, naturally, I assumed it was a salon that was doing well. I walked in with the hopes to go darker and adjust a color I had done LITERALLY the day before...not only was able to be seen the very same day but Mallory was sweet very knowledgeable and did amazing job. Very fair prices. I love my hair! Mallory is a lifesaver!! The reception was very warm and welcoming... Which is refreshing! I was in sweats and not feeling my very best and other salons hold that against you and make you feel less than - So nice to have not experienced any snooty behavior! Check this salon out!! After all this time, Peter Christopher is still my hair stylist. His work is consistent and is never rushed. We've fallen into a rhythm where I visit him every 6 weeks; he'll always ask me what I want (even though it's the same thing) and understands that I am a low-key kind of girl so he always cuts to make sure it grows in and lays naturally. I like to go to the salon on Saturdays so when Peter is done styling my hair, I can head out on the town and show it off right away. Whenever I get a compliment on my hair (which still happens all the time), I always tell them about this salon.
