Great experiences every time I'm in DOC. Like many of the other reviews state, the selection of wines and liquor is pretty expansive and meets any price point you're looking for. I mainly come in for red wine and rosé, but I've also picked up orange liqueur, Aperol, and champagne. It also looks like they have a huge wall of whiskey and rum. The location is situated around Motorino, OTB, and Meadowsweet so it's hard not to pop in when I'm walking by. The building is super old and has a cool vintage charm inside. The prices are pretty standard for the area if you're looking for a reasonable bottle to go -- I usually grab a bottle of pinot noir for around ~$14. The staff are always friendly and helpful if you have questions. They keep max occupancy to 2 people and require masks, so I've never gone in and felt weird. I wish they had a loyalty program, because it's not exactly the closest wine shop place to me, but I still stop in if I'm headed that way. Looking forward to my next (inevitable) visit! read more

THIS HAS NO REFLECTION ON the STAFF. Our problem and the joke around the neighborhood is that they never restock anything that is great and sells out. This store used to be a dream of wines and liquor.. it used to have Orak, Pastis, Tito's, Montenegro, Cynar, the wine with the lobster, the orange wine with the snail, cognac , amazing champagne from champagne .. they have never restocked anything and the store is a shell of what it was .. there is a world renowned steak house and cigar shop across the street .. it should reflect the refined taste of neighborhood.. we all hope one day they will restock the numerous bottles of great things they once had. read more

Probably one of the best wine shops I've been to in Brooklyn. Their selection is absolutely insane (including orange wines). They have things at every price point (and they conveniently order their shelves by price). If you want something cold, just let them know and they'll go downstairs and get you a refrigerated bottle. Had a great Portuguese white and a New Zealand rose. Would definitely recommend stopping by! read more

I usually go here all the time and for the most part have always had a pleasant experience except for today. I walked by at exactly 12:01PM because I was rushing to buy a bottle of champagne for a friend and I notice that the store is still closed with the door locked and gates down. A female employee walks in with keys to open the door and I politely asked what time they usually open.. she looked at me- laughed and scoffed then said "does it look like i'm open right now" and then proceeded to tell me they open up at 12. I don't want to be "that person" but a store being open at 12 means the gates are up and someones working - not JUST walking in and opening up the door to the shop. I understand it's not that big of a deal and people run late but that attitude from this woman was not necessary. Rude and disrespectful..learn how to be polite when working in costumer service. read more

Great wine store - love the owner - he's always very friendly and helpful. They have a pretty extensive international selection of wines and many of them are reasonable. I've never been let down in any wine suggestions/recs I've received so I trust them completely. P.S. Very disappointed. I'm used to wine shops that accurately represent and value their wines. They misrepresent their wines characteristics and the wines are stored in a poor climate (the heat was blasting when I went there) and the owner is a total snob. I purchased a mid-range bottle at $20 that tasted like $2 chuck. Icky. We went back 3 times because it is so close to our apartment, and each time the bottles have disappointed. Even though this place came first, I was motivated to come here after having a great meal with wine at PT. They had a great menu supplied by a wine selection curated by D.O.C., I knew partner shop D.O.C. would know their stuff. Like everyone else, I needed to pick up a bottle for Thanksgiving. I asked one of their staff for help in choosing a wine, but first gave them the criteria: 1. Red, please. 2. Must go with cheese and everything else we'll have for Thanksgiving. 3. On the smoother side, up to medium-bodied. He quickly pointed out a few wines that met my criteria from different regions (France, Italy, Spain). I ended up going with a lovely bottle of Terres Dorees L'An-something-something, just under $20 after tax! I could tell he was very knowledgeable about vino and felt comfortable going with his suggestions. I proudly brought it to Thanksgiving and it was well-received. A guest said, "Hey, this tastes good," not knowing I was the one who brought it so you know it was a winner! Located next door to Dressler and down the street from Peter Luger, this enchanting little wine shop is a perfect addition to the neighborhood. read more

Great selection, even on the cheaper end, which is great because I like wine but I'm broke. Stopped in here after dinner, and to my surprise, was in wine heaven. A couple of things that I appreciated... Very large range of wines, not your usual suspects, and some fantastic pricing for things I never heard of, but wanted to try. Owner was very helpful after I gave him my totally rudimentary description of what I like. Moscato d'asti. He pointed me in the direction of a couple of bottles, with one shining recommendation. I tried it last night, and it was to die for. Descriptions for bottles are well written and very helpful. The interior. Does it matter? No probably not, but I would come to this place just to stare at the ceiling. It is such a pretty and well thought out space that it makes me want to hang out and read about wine all day. Great setup. Walking in this place you very much get a sense that whoever came up with this idea and put it together cares about the whole damn thing. This is their baby. From the shelves to the corks that were sliced and have hand written prices on them. Beyond that, selection is extremely good. Not because of available quantity, but available quality. Very well thought out and geared more towards the connoisseurs instead of the drinking to get drunk types. If you appreciate well made wines and want to try some new things, absolutely check it out. There is also a minimal selection of nice liquor and glassware as well. A perfect gift buying spot. read more

This is the best wine shop in Williamsburg, as the owners are attentive and know their stuff. By the looks of it, you'd think it would be exclusive and expensive, but they have a great inexpensive selection. They sell unusual spirits that make great gifts (and great cocktails) but the best feature: their champagnes. You can get all sorts of smaller vintage sparkling wines here for a very modest price. They don't buy the big showy Champagne vintners, just the really tasty and special ones. read more

Fave wine shop in the neighborhood even though they won't carry Aperol anymore and I keep telling them where to get it- my own issues. Other than that, it's a great shop. They used to do cheese/wine tastings on Tuesday nights- hope they bring that back. Very fun. Unlike Uva, the staff is really helpful and nice, they have good cheap bottles ($10) in addition to high end, and they play good old school punk while you're shopping for your fancy wine. Most of the staff are well informed and willing to spend time explaining your potential purchase The store itself is beautiful which makes for a happy shopping experience and the wine available is 5 Star Prices are generally fair though occasionally slightly (I'm talking slight, like 50cents maybe a dollar) more than other stores or online (believe me I checked) - what makes me not mind this though is that the wines are kept in wine happy environments (no wine stupidly stored above a blasting heater) so your purchase is always delicious Why not 5 Stars?? Most of the wines are more than $15-20 before tax, and even though they have a entire long table devoted to $10 wines I've tried them all (don't judge!!)... and can't say I love any of them. So, when I'm looking for a reasonably good bottle to share with my sweets on a Tuesday night I head to Roebling wine and Liquor. When I want something guaranteed delicious to pair with some pan seared sea scallops I'm heading to DOC. Did I mention they deliver, for free?? And it's fast? I've talked myself back to 5 stars, more like 4.8 but I'm rounding up, because I want them to stick around, and they're overall awesome. read more

I've been yesterday to that place. Place is looking very very good and service was friendly. Very nice store. This being said, I did'nt find really what I wanted and the advices were a bit off. Not so knowledgable. I wanted north Rhone, and nothing from there. I was advised some Burgundy from Alsace :-) And then was adviced a Primitivo di Manduria, as THE primitivo. And really have not been impressed at all. Neither by the wine itself nor by the fact that Primitivo must come from Manduria. If I'd be around, I'll stop by to feed them back. No drama at all. I would give it 2.5 stars but I can't so I'll stick to 2. read more

I can't think of a more inviting liquor store. This wine shop has a good selection of wines from all over the globe and various mid to top shelf liquors. The decor goes a long way in helping me overcome my indecision while purchasing a wine for a dinner party, for myself, or any assortment of good bourbons and whiskeys they have on the back shelf. Ooh la la. I love this place. The selection is fantastic and surprisingly well-priced considering how bougie it seems. The male owner is always nice and welcoming and often gives me good tips on the temperature of the wine, time, to breathe, etc. The only problem is that I come here too much...but I don't see nothing wrong with a little cheese and wine. I'm happy to have moved to the neighborhood a few months ago right near so many conveniences and great shops and stores all within an arm's reach, one of which was a wine store I heard so many great things about, DOC Wines. And as a bottle-a-wine-a-night kind of girl I've been giving it an honest chance over the last six months but I will never go in there again. The people who work here are rude and dismissive and not in that wine-snob, pretentious kind of way, that I can handle. But in the areas of unfounded wine knowledge and poor customer service, they go far beyond. At times they've given me completely inaccurate information, such as there no wines from the Canary Islands which is not true. And then when I asked if they have boxed wine, I wasn't looking for Franzia, more like a reasonable Vrac or From the Tank, and they snickered about boxed wine within earshot right in front of me. They are perfectly happy to chit chat with my boyfriend or wish him a good day make a joke or any level of light conversation that I too use when I patronize a local shop I visit weekly and recognize each employee inside, but when I shop solo I'm given short responses to any questions and a quick conversationless transaction as I make an awkward and speedy exit. Two months ago I wrote them off but out of convenience I recently tried once more; fool me twice. Lesson learned: go to Bottle Shoppe just up Bedford Ave or get delivery from Blue Angel. read more

This wine shop is my favorite in all of the five boroughs, and I've gone to many. They have many choices and many that are chilled. The customer service is ALWAYS on point. The hours are fair although I wish they opened earlier so I can get my di bon for my mimosas but that's a personal problem. It's also located between great restaurants none of which are BYOB but who cares take your bottle of wine head down to the north side and drink by the river or take the ferry three blocks away and go to Governors Island. But really, take it home because I don't want to get in trouble and enjoy it there with some Netflix and perhaps chill. read more

A few other reviewers mentioned that the guy with the white/gray hair is a snob. I'll go a few steps further. I live in the neighborhood and had been buying wines at this place for years. This guy seems to chat some customers up more than others. Maybe I did not buy enough expensive wine for him to bother being friendly with me. Whatever. I always went there for convenience. Then one night I buy a Malbac with this super dense cork made out of some kind of synthetic putty like material that broke my wine cork in half. No matter what I tried I could not get the sucker out. I go across the street five minutes after the guy closes to see if he can help me out or offer an exchange. He tells me he is closed, to try a wrench, and shuts the door in my face. I go back home and try it with a wrench which just breaks off the remaining piece of the wine key. A knife couldn't ever cut through this material. In the meantime my roommate and I are in disbelief at how rude this guy was. I go back the next day with the wine and he gives me this look like - what are you doing here. Again, this is after I have shopped there for years. I tell him his wrench suggestion didn't work out. Then -instead of just helping me out he starts preaching about why some people break corks. I cut him off and say I never break corks (by the way, the cork did not break. The cheap cork on the wine from his shop broke the wine key). He starts to cut the cork - and he can't cut through it either. I am waiting for him to just apologize or offer and exchange. Instead he struggles himself to open it like a stubborn mule. Before leaving I tell him that I have been shopping there for years and never came to him with a problem before so he shouldn't be acting so inconvenienced. He says nothing. I AM NEVER SHOPPING AT THIS PLACE AGAIN. Go to Uva or the Bottle Shop on Bedford instead. The people are not jerks there. I know Williamsburg is not renowned for its world class service, but this guy takes rude to a whole new level. read more

I live very close to D.O.C. and was really excited to find a place that is not only the most beautiful wine shop I have ever been in, but also didn't have the intimidating prices that you'd expect in such a sophisticated setting. The first time I went in a lovely woman helped me, and made the experience great. The second time I went in Paul was there. Paul is the "pretentious grey-haired man" mentioned in an earlier review. Not only do I concur on the pretention, I can also say that he established himself as racist towards jews within the first 3 minutes of our conversation, went on a rant about corruption in their community, and actually told me to train my dog (who came in with me and even got a treat, which was cute) to bite them! My dog is a darling and cowers away at the hiss of a cat, and he wants me to train him to bite the people in the hasidic community to accomplish his own agenda? I just wanted to buy a bottle of wine for a dinner I was on my way to! I was shocked, insulted and kind of disgusted by him, and when I called a few days later to see if they carried wine aerators (for a friends wedding registry), he immediately launched into a negative tirade about how they are "worthless, horrible things". I hung up on him. I do NOT need that negative energy in my life! From now on I'll do a drive by and enter only if he's not there. Just a jerk, and not very helpful. BUT (if you've made it this far in my review, well done, I'm a wordy lady!) The shop is beautiful, the selection is lovely and wallet friendly, and everyone else I've met in there is lovely as well. This shop is my heaven. You know that sinking feeling when you roll into the wine shop unprepared, seeing a multitude of dubious bottles, some of which certainly will invoke drinking death? Here, that is impossible. For the first time, I am able to pick a bottle at random and consistently know I'll be taken on an interesting journey. For the cocktail fanatic, all of your obscure aperitif and bitter needs are stocked. If you're a PDT book devotee, you'll be able to supply yourself here. Too far a hike for every day but a much-loved treat whenever I am over on this side. The shop is well-curated in both selection and aesthetics, the employees are knowledgeable and easy-going and their selection hits a lot of marks. You could grab something for dinner or a gift equally well, have a lot of price options, and easily find yourself uncorking a new, unusual wine with little effort and there are enough familiar wineries stocked that it doesn't feel like someone just trying to be eccentric or grandstand. I love shopping in this store. This loft-like retail space with vast ceilings, artistically displayed bottles, and uber trendy staff members looks intimidating and expensive. However, this store is about quality irrespective of price. There's a great selection of low to mid priced wines from all over the world, the staff is helpful and friendly, and it's a pleasant & spacious environment to shop in. (Unlike the cramped aisles of other stores, where I'm constantly in fear of knocking over something with an errant elbow or my tote bag). Its a pretty shop. They know their wine. Not exactly cheap, but they know what they're talking about, and i appreciate it that they keep a selection of affordable wines besides the fancies. I stick in the 10-15$ land and have not had a bad bottle yet. My sweetie's borne the brunt of silver haired curmudgenon's charmless snobbery. Speaking for myself, i've had nothing but to-the-point helpfulness, and its a nice option to pick up a bottle of wine on the way home. The space is enormous and beautiful. It's like entering the drawing room of an English manor. They have a good selection but the bottles are arranged on various shelves, tables, and mantles all over the store. I found myself walking round and round trying to decide on a wine. The prices are reasonable and the Barbera I bought for $17 was very very good. For some reason they have dorky wine gift bags hanging on one part of the store. They should get rid of those immediately. read more

I've stopped picking out my own wine. I just walk into DOC Wine Shop, tell them my price range and what I'm eating with the wine, and let them do the pickin'. Everything they have suggested is anywhere from very good to amazing. Almost all of my favorite wines are from here. They're a bit pretentious about their wines, but it's part of the charm and personality of the place, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you want California wines, this isn't the place to go, but they'll point you to something else that is just as good. read more

I must say, that this place is absolutely phenomenal! I spoke to Paul, and described what I was cooking for a dinner party as well as my budget. He gave me exactly what I was looking for, and told me about how each wine should be decanted as well as what point of the dinner each bottle should be served. Their prices are as good as it can get! Just walked by this wine shop to witness an unfortunate sight. The owner was belligerently screaming at a girl. It looked like he had a problem with something being in front if his shop. I.e. It was not yet open. The young lady said that she would take care if it immediately for him. And she did. However , the owner still continued to berate the poor girl even after the task was complete. Red faced and scream, the girl finally just decided to walk away. I'm so sad I witnessed it b/c I shop there frequently. Not anymore. No one who behaves that way toward anyone is not good enough to have my business. Oh and the crazed man the was yelling was tall with all grey hair. I have noticed others don't care for him is well in other reviews. read more
