I always enjoy dropping into D.P. after classes to sit down and work on some homework. The people always come out with a smile, and the food comes pretty quickly! Surprisingly, the calzone aren't my favorite aspect of D.P. Dough. Though the taste of their ingredients is nice, they often fall apart easily or have cold spots, in my experience. Rather, what truly shines here are their wings. I absolutely recommend sitting down with a friend and a pound of whatever wings suit your fancy (especially with a cup of ranch) after a long day. I tried DP Dough last night. I went with a group of ten friends. We ordered cookies. They brought out 10 most delicious chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. They were just the right amount of crisp and soft. Hot and gooey. I'm hooked! The worker was awesome. He was pleasant to visit with and responded positively when we kept asking for things like napkins, water, etc. I'm excited to go back and try some of their menu items. I've been driving by this place for months with every intention of trying it, and while I haven't tried a ton of calzones, I loved every bite of it. They are always solid for reasonably priced calzones: the perfect combination for college students, hence all of their locations being around college campuses. I ended up ordering their spinach calzone and a custom one with broccoli, garlic, onions, and black olives, both as takeout. Lets go for a breakdown review: Interior: Nice, clean open space with a variety of seating and a chalk board wall on the right for people to draw on. To the left of the counter is a condiments bar with the drink machine. Further left is a pin ball machine. Water cups are provided. Customer service: The staff was polite, explaining the daily deals (daily $6 featured calzone flavor, 2 for $12 Wednesdays) and providing a menu. They seemed fine. Price: A little under $9 for a custom calzone (up to 5 fillings, including cheese). ((The following food review is based on the pictured spinach garlic clazone which I had apon returning to my dorm)) Crust: Average crust but a bit on the fluffier side. Order well done if you want it crisp like I do. Cheese: Abundant but bordering on rubbery. Not a huge fan of this because it means you really can't eat the cheese by itself, but it balances out when eaten as a whole with the calzone. Ingredients: I would have liked a better ratio of cheese to other filling ingredients. The cheese if definately dominant, overriding alot of the other flavors. Sauce: Comes in a little cup on the side (marinara unless you request otherwise, they have alot of options). I like my tomato sauce with lots of herbs and spices but on its own this sauce is a bit over seasoned. Much like the cheese though, it balances out when eaten with the calzone as a whole (dippable). This was flavorful and surprisingly filling. I also had the "Spinner Zone", which was the same as the "Speed Zone" minus the chicken. Not the iconic calzone picks yes, but I was feeling something with primarily vegis and wanted to make mama happy, her knowing I eat vegis once every few months. The key to any sandwich, pizza, or calzone, is not just one thing, but the whole encompassing dish! Each ingredient must be on point, but then play into one another to create something tasty. It was not just the "innerds" (if it were pizza we'd call them "toppings") that were working their magic, but the excellence of the dough. It was reminiscent of something I would have in NYC, in that the dough found its balance among both crispiness and chewiness. This was the winning marker for me! I advise sticking primarily to the calzone side of the menu. I tried the chicken wings, and they had the same texture and flavor of that of Pizza Hut's.
