I was on campus this week for a lecture series and a few of the other attendees wanted to meet up and go for a nice quick dinner after class. We were told by a graduate student friend of ours that Stub & Herb's is where all of the grad students went so we decided to try it out for an authentic U of M experience. When we walked in, it was one of those semi-dimly lit bar/restaurant combos that you expect to see next to a college campus or in the suburbs. Our waitress was friendly and quickly showed us a table that could accommodate our large group. After looking at the menu, we quickly realized our only options were either burgers or sandwiches which was alright, who doesn't love those anyway. We caught the end of Happy Hour which runs until 7 so a few of us got some drinks for really cheap. For the meal, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with French fries on the side. Unfortunately, this was a poor choice as the lettuce was soggy, the chicken was super thin, dry, but yet somehow not crispy. And there was nowhere near enough sauce for the sandwich to balance out the dryness. On top of that, the fries were not seasoned enough and not crispy. It was a disappointing meal and despite being hungry, I didn't finish my meal. I wouldn't come back here to grab a bite, but I would come back down for a cheap drink with pals. The service was friendly and the prices were good for drinks, just not a place to come for dinner.

Stopped in here for a beer and app before the Gooher Volleyball game. I appreciate and support of the local teams and offers of drink discounts. I had the Summit Oatmeal stout and it was cold and creamy. Yum. For a snack we chose two apps, chicken fingers and onion rings. Let's just say they were extremely well fried. Got to our table nice and hit but dry and just fried too much. Staff was busy but attended to our needs.

Maggots in the basement. I wouldn't EVER consider eating food here or ordering anything off tap.

Don't forget a pickle with your drink!

Ah, the classic college bar with waaay above average food! I love me some Stub & Herb's. The drinks are great, the food is amazing, and the staff is so friendly. The place lends itself to small groups, parties, events, game nights, the list goes on and on. The bar and dining space is pretty cozy - booths and tables. There's a back room where you can host events/play machine games. There are also TVs all over to watch sports games or whatever else you may want to watch. Food wise, the cheeseburger is sooo good (drooling just thinking about it). I also really enjoy the Turkey Avocado BLT - it comes on this amazing ciabatta bread that I daydream about. I also really enjoy the Cranberry Walnut Salad when I'm feeling healthy ;) and of course you can never go wrong with the chicken fingers! Bathrooms are a bit of a tight squeeze, but nothing to complain about. Stub & Herb's is located right on campus so check it out when you get a chance!

Best peanut butter sriracha burger and fries. Fried pickles best I've had. Lift Bridge Farm Girls were enjoyable also. Keep 'em coming. Homemade chili was also good! There is seating at the bar, hi top tables, low tops, indoor, sunroom, and outdoor. Love the atmosphere and the food. And everything. Bartenders seemed friendly and attentive. We have been here several times while staying in the area. Our server Friday 5/25/2018 was very nice and attentive. Kudos to her, but I wish I could remember her name--since I asked her for it (blonde young gal, wore her hair up, had nice personality.) She was friendly and genuine. Besides asking us and listening about what brings us here, she made a point to let us know she enjoyed our touch tunes choices.

Stub classic.

This place was exactly what I was expecting. Greasy food, and a disgusting bathroom, your typical divey college bar. I got my beer and burger, so good enough for me. This is your basic bar food, so go elsewhere if you're looking for something exotic or fancy. All of their burgers come on a pretzel bun. I went with the stub classic, with mushroom, bacon, and a 1000 island sauce. The burger was cooked to hell, and slightly grey. My bun was glistening, and my onions rings were dripping oil. Just what I hoped for. Solid beer selection here, and the drinks came fast. Our server was good, but super awkward. She should probably not make this a career. The restaurant itself had a dirty vibe. The bathroom was so gross, I would have been happier just going in the street, but then I might have gotten arrested.

Good morning burger. Delicious!

I love this spot. It's just different. I hate the term old school but it is just that. Basic no frills bar with a fairly different demo. It isn't frequented by just one "type." Ive been coming up here for about a week and a half every summer to do some work on campus (minus 2020) and the place is always just perfect. Good beer. Great burgers. I love it.

This is a nice location close to the university and stadium. I went here for Happy Hour with a small group and we grabbed a corner booth. I don't know if I would come here without the HH deal, but they had a good menu. I ordered a beer and tater tots and definitely paid a fair price. The waitress was also very attentive. I do know that on game days, especially when UMN football plays, they get packed! So, just be sure to check the schedule if you're looking to avoid the crowds.

Nachos. Half the beauty is digging for the actual chips.

This is the kind of establishment that you can grab a drink with your friends, study for a midterm, catch up with your dad, type a paper on their patio in the spring, or buy a beer for the studly guy you're trying to get handsy with. To guarantee your satisfaction, I tested all of these scenarios on your behalf and Stub and Herb's never let me down. It is in a prime location and the noise level is tolerable when there isn't a major event going down. They have pretty good deals on drinks and food during happy hour. The tap list has a nice mix of quality and familiarity. The food is a couple steps above your average pub (see: juicy, salty, hangover-fighting breakfast burger and the nearly-epic mountain of nachos). The service can get a little slow sometimes but I really can't not like this place.

Very good bar. Games to play and the drinks are good. The other clients do not get too roudy and it is a good time for all.

We ordered at 7:30. It's 9:10 and we still haven't gotten our food. Kitchen is "backed up" but the place doesn't seem busy at all.

Unbelievable. This place is truly magical…read more It has such a perfect mix of a relaxed, chill vibe while still feeling elevated enough to dress up and make a night out of it. The space itself is beautiful with a really cozy ambiance, and the patio is a great option when the weather is nice. The drinks are absolutely the star of the show. You can tell there is so much intention behind both the flavors and the presentation. The cocktail menu is super creative, and the Old Fashioned menu alone is phenomenal with so many unique options. The Beorn Old Fashioned was my favorite. We also tried the Payanello (pineapple, lime, ginger, pickled jalapeño) and it was incredible. Food was fantastic as well. The brussels sprouts were so good and a must order. Service was amazing. Our server was so kind, helpful, and gave great recommendations, which made the whole experience even better. It is on the pricier side, especially for drinks, but honestly worth it for the quality and experience. Reservations are easy to make and I would definitely recommend booking ahead. Parking was manageable when we went, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. Overall, such a beautiful, thoughtfully done space with incredible drinks, great food, and top tier service. A perfect spot for a night out or just grabbing a cocktail and soaking in the vibe.

Since I don't drink alcohol, I opted for one of their zero-proof cocktails, the St. Agrestis Phony Negroni. It had a subtle hint of pineapple, but the drink itself was a bit too strong for my taste. We also tried their new Irish Spice Bag, but unfortunately it wasn't a favorite. The dish was a little bland, and the curry sauce could have used more seasoning. Overall, this place just wasn't the right fit for my personal tastes, but I can definitely see it appealing to those who appreciate sophisticated cocktails and an upscale, stylish atmosphere.

This location is a bit small and can be pretty popular at times but they've really stepped up their service lately. You order and at the counter before you are seated and it used to be seat yourself free for all but most recently a server was asking folks in line their party sizes and presenting seating options before you order so you would have a table reserved when you were ready to sit. I really liked this and thought it did wonders to streamline the sometimes chaotic customer line and seating situation. Less stressful for me and less stressful for them! We were able to order, find our reserved table outside, and receive our coffee and food all within 20 minutes of arriving. They serve Truestone coffee here which absolutely bangs, really really good, and I got a vanilla latte that had actual vanilla bean in it. Delectable! I got the Chorizo bowl which comes with 2 salsa that pack some pleasant heat and are complimented by a couple small slices of pineapple. My friends got the Bacon Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich, and the special Guajillo Eggs Benedict both of which were also quite satisfying. The one item I did not enjoy was the Biscuits and Gravy, the gravy was just too sage heavy (as advertised) and I am not sure I liked the combo of pork and bison meat in it. That being said, I will definitely still come back here! Really REALLY good coffee will always keep me coming back.
