I've been going to D/Vision for over three years now, and I couldn't be happier with them--I've referred over a half dozen of my friends from the office and they've all come away happy customers (with cool glasses :-). Ezra is very helpful and thorough, and most importantly, takes the time to explain everything he discovers from your exam--most eye doctors are in a big hurry to push you out the door and railroad their next patient in, but not Ezra. In the front of the house, folks are extremely friendly, and very customer-oriented. Chris has taken the time to show me dozens and dozens of frames--always patient, and always willing to give his opinion and not just tell me what I want to hear (and believe me, for someone as fashion-retarded as I am, that's really appreciated). Lastly, they take my vision insurance (VSP) and that's really the icing on the cake, because some of the really fancy frames can get a little pricey--not that they're cheaper anywhere else--it's just the nature of the beast. Anyway, it's a great business, and I hope to keep going there for my exams and glasses (my wife is a customer too!) for years to come. Great service, great doctor, and GREAT selection. The doctor here was far more thorough and far less brusque than anyone you will encounter at Lens Crafters, etc. The salesperson was very patient, didn't rush me or push me and did a great job of assisting me in narrowing down my choices and zero in on the perfect pair of glasses for me. Yes, the frames are expensive. I can't believe that people would give this place a poor review based on that. Oliver Peoples frames aren't cheap, and that's just the way it is. There are plenty of discount frame places out there, and this place isn't one of them, nor does it claim to be. I'm willing to pony up some scratch for something that is going to be on my face a lot of the time. "Has anybody every told you anything about your eyes?" -- Dr Kwong This really sums up my experience at D/Vision. Past visits to different eye doctors have yielded the same remark -- "your eyes look very healthy." At D/Vision, I learned that I have a freckle in my right eye, I have an astigmatism in my left eye (not both eyes), and I've been prescribed stronger contacts than I really need for my typical everyday activities (staring at a computer monitor). Not life-changing news, but it was pleasant to walk away knowing more detailed information about my eyes, and that a doctor could took care and time in educating me in everything he observed. Dr Kwong is extremely knowledgeable and professional. The sales staff was very helpful. I literally stood in front of a mirror as the woman behind the counter brought several eyeglasses to me. I recently lost my glasses and needed a new pair ASAP. In Wicker Park...I went to Lenscrafters and they didn't take VSP (they also weren't quite as nice when I told them this was a deal breaker). Urban Eyecare is nice but the selection is minimal. Least impressive was Eye Want - very cool storefront and unique eyewear but they don't take any insurance and the customer service was terrible. I called D/Vision and made it to the store 15 minutes before close. They didn't rush me, and the woman who helped me select a pair was so nice and helpful. They have a wide selection of beautiful glasses. I let her know that my eyes were killing me without glasses and she made sure my new pair was ready in two days. The woman who helped me choose my frames kept saying smart things and the guy who arranged things after the eye exam made me laugh and smile. They gave me a 20% discount, sent me an invoice and suggested how to submit it to my insurance for potential partial reimbursement, which never occurred to me (my vision plan only covers frames at Target and a few other similar places). And they said I can go back at any point in the next year (at no extra charge) for contact lens exam since I didn't have the $$ to pay for contact lenses today. Not only did I end up getting an amazing pair of glasses, all of the opticians were incredibly helpful and honest when assisting me with frame selection. While the sales rep I had was very nice and helpful, I cannot figure out why they have very dark lighting in an eyeglass store!! I could barely tell what color the frames were. It is the primary reason I would not go back. The rep also told me the frame I liked the most would probably not still be in stock in 2 months - odd as I saw the same frame in at least 3 other stores. Alison was amazing! I went in here trying to figure out how things worked with my insurance and to get one or two glasses, however, with her help I was able to fit 3 glasses within my budget. I even had to call the store a couple of times to confirm some details and they were prompt to respond and help me out. I haven't had a better experience at an eyewear store. She fitted them for me as well as a few other things I didn't know was a thing to make sure they were perfect for me. So happy I stopped in! I don't doubt that many people have fine experiences at D/Vision, but for me they were a nightmare. Two months, 8 visits, and many lies later, I had to walk away. I'm out $300 and I'll never go back. Here is the long version: I told them I was having vision problems with the $700 pair of glasses they made me and was told repeatedly that they'd resolve the issue. I spent HOURS of my life going to and from their shop, talking to one of their opticians. They removed the astigmatism correction, and when I still couldn't see properly they started what was, as far as I can tell, a totally deceptive process of trying to convince me that the glasses were correct. One of the opticians, who I won't name because I know her boss knows who she is, promised me repeatedly that they'd figure out the problem and "start from scratch" if they needed to. She had me drive to their shop only to send me home again with a minor adjustment asking me to try wearing them again. Finally I just left the glasses with her since the fact was, I couldn't wear them without feeling nauseous, and I certainly couldn't drive safely in them. When I left the glasses with her on a Sunday, she told me she would figure out what was wrong and solve it - she promised to call me Monday. On Thursday I got a voicemail from her saying that "nothing is wrong" with the glasses, so unless I could "prove" the prescription was wrong I was on my own. I was truly shocked. Her "solution" was to take my $700 and tell me to get lost. So I took the glasses to another optical shop for a second opinion - with in FIFTEEN MINUTES this shop identified the problem. The pantascopic tilt was much greater on my new glasses - abnormally so. Here's the really offensive part - when I took the frames BACK to D/Vision a new woman helped me, much more knowledgeable than the first. The moment I took my frames out and said look the other optician said it's the pantascopic tilt she said "oh of course it is. this pair of frames has this strangely strong tilt." In other words, it was OBVIOUS all along to every other professional why it was I couldn't see out of my glasses. And yet the D/Vision employee I worked with initially lied to me, wasted my time, and refused to help me further. D/Vision would only agree to exchanged my frames, telling me I'd need to pay another $300 for the lenses. I exchanged the frames, and I am taking my business elsewhere. I have never felt so cheated by a business. Don't let the hip window displays fool you - if nothing goes wrong you'll be fine, but beware, these are not honest business people. read more

I visited this place last weekend for the first time and this will be my new eye doctor! Dr. Park is great and so was the staff! They were extremely professional and helpful. The exam was very straight forward and they did not try to add on anything that was unnecessary or not needed. Dr. Park explained everything to me and made it very understandable. After the exam, the associate that had helped me was very honest, attentive, helpful, and friendly. I wish I remembered her name so that I could mention her. Not only did I get the most spectacularly hot looking glasses with service extraordinaire, but Chris, the owner, is so thoughtful and generous and has made a huge difference in many people's lives! !! I just returned from the Ivory Coast in West Africa where I went with one hundred pairs of reading glasses from D/Vision. THIS IS THE PLACE!! I spent many weeks looking in every neighborhood to find the right selection. Everywhere i went had "attitude" bad selection and way overpriced. NOT D/Vision! Dr. Atikune is very helpful and professional, but some of the the staff/managers are strange. One staff member tried to throw me out when my daughter was still being examined, very rudely informing me that they were closing, as if I was just enjoying hanging out in the store. We then waited over 2 months for the contacts. The girl on the phone informed me that it was my fault, when I hadn't placed any blame on the fact they forgot to order them. Some of the staff members, though, are very charming and helpful. When we finally got our contacts., they were the wrong prescription. I suggest not using the substitute doctor. After having 2 successful prescriptions filled the year before by Dr. Atikune, our new glasses/contacts are not correct. Just had a great experience at d/vision. I recently broke my frames in a way that rendered them un-fixable. Because my lenses are still ok, I just wanted to find some replacement frames on the cheap (no eye insurance at my work). A nice guy named Chris helped me out, showing me a bunch great frames that really fit my style. Some great pairs were outside my budget, unfortunately, but Chris found a discounted frame that was aesthetically very similar. All in all, a d/vision is a great place. I've been meaning to do a review for these guys for a year. I got my sunglasses there and also had to get my brother an eye exam and glasses and they also helped my Mom when she was in town from overseas for a short time. THEY ARE AWESOME!!! Every single person I've dealt with there was SO helpful and really wanted to help. Neither my brother nor my Mom had insurance and unfortunately their frames are expensive, but they were very accommodating and really helped us to find the best frames at the best price. My Mom was only here for a couple of weeks and needed super special lenses that usually take much longer and they were able to expedite it and again were just absolutely wonderful throughout the entire thing. You cannot get this level of service and quality at Walmart. I have tried, trust me. Just another random story about these guys - I had a pair of sunglasses, which were not from them, that had a minor problem witha screw and took them in and they fixed it for free. How nice is that?! Given that it probably would have been a few bucks, but still it is nice for them to do that because they knew I didn't buy the glasses from them and they didn't know me. Their Doctors are also fantastic. My Mom who has every problem imaginable with her eyes and hasn't been able to see for a couple of years raved about her Dr for a week. Finally, I think they have a great selection of very cool frames. As I mentioned earlier, they are expensive, but they are really good about keeping your price point in mind and helped us find an affordable pair for my brother. read more

I have never written a review regarding an eye doctor before, but my experience at D/Vision was so fantastic, I had to. I saw Dr. Patrick Kwong for an eye exam and he was by far the best eye doctor I have ever had the pleasure of meeting with. Dr. Kwong was so knowledgeable and professional during my appointment. I feel I received the best eye care I possibly could have--even though my appointment was at 6 pm, he still spent a great deal of time with me and was incredibly thorough. Along with their incredible eye doctors, D/Vision also has a great assortment of glasses, and honest salespeople that will help you narrow down the selection to what looks the best on you. The selection is definitely funkier and more hip--so if you want something extremely basic, this might not be the place for you. However, if you do want cool and unique frames, and if you want a doctor that is attentive and knowledgeable, and truly cares about your eye health--than D/Vision is most definitely the place for you. I cannot recommend D/Vision enough! read more

From the moment I walked in, to the moment I left with my repaired glasses, I was completely at ease and taken care of. The workers were friendly, and knowledgeable and directed me to Nicholas who took expert care of my 1942 vintage frames that needed some reshaping, and light maintenance. Most people turn me and my vintage frames away--but Nicholas was able to assess the repairs needed and restored them to their former glory (they finally fit on my face again!). Don't go here if you have a high or complex prescription. D/Vision is less an optical store than a boutique that sells prescription eyewear. The staff can help you match a frame to your look, but opticians they are not. I have a relatively high prescription (-6) and since I wear my glasses nearly everyday I thought it was worth it to invest in a good pair. The staff helped me pick out a good pair and it was sent away to the lab for processing. When the glasses came in I could tell immediately they were made incorrectly (headaches) but the staff told me to 'work them out'. The headaches didn't subside so I took the pair to my aunt, who is an optometrist in the burbs. She ran the glasses and found they were centered incorrectly. I took this assessment to the staff at D/Vision who laughed at the thought they could be wrong, and sneered at the suggestion. The D/Vision doctor was kind enough to run an eye exam on the spot, determined my original prescription was correct, and they remade the lenses according to the prescription on my original glasses, which cause me no problem. The remade lenses came back with the same problem (headaches, dizziness), and when I told this to the staff it only resulted in more sneering. I've tried to get a refund on just the frames but D/Vision refused, saying they've tried to remake the lenses and the frames are no longer 'sellable' though I cannot wear the glasses. I'm out $550 and all I have to show for it is an unusable pair of glasses. I give the doctor and staff a lot of credit for trying to work with me, but in the end the result speaks for itself. I could also do without the sneering and haughtiness on the part of the staff, doctor aside. Postscript: I took the same prescription to lenscrafters and they made me a perfectly fine pair of glasses for half the price. read more

When I walk into a store I don't want the person behind the counter, in this instance a hipster-wanna-be-girl-with-a-tight-black-dress-and-clear-frame-glasses, giving me or my girlfriend any attitude. I live a few blocks from this location and I've wanted to stop in, so we gave it a chance last night. They purposely keep all their glasses behind the counter so you have to deal with their staff, which was annoying. Yeah, I get it - I already know their response to this..."we don't want people stealing our glasses"...but let's be honest...you only have the glasses back there so your staff can put the hard sell on. This is exactly what I got from the girl who gave me attitude. I know my style. I don't need someone trying to tell me what I should wear. Furthermore, her delivery was fake the entire time, and she was rude. Yes, we live in Wicker Park, but I don't care how cool you think you are...you're not. You're still tasked with helping customers and selling product. That's it. Drop the attitude and try to be genuine next time (if you even know how), cause I was ready to buy glasses yesterday and your 'tude lost the sale. read more

These guys are sooo nice. Before D/Vision I used to go to a different place in the 900 north michigan building, and they were so snobby to me. Which was hard for me to understand, considering I dropped $700 there on 2 pairs of Chanel prescription glasses. At one point said Chanel glasses got a bit bent and they wouldn't help with that either. I was so fed up with them I ended up calling D/Vision on a whim because at the time I lived a block away, and I have been a repeat customer for 7 or 8 years now. They have a nice selection of unusual designer frames and the people that work there are more than willing to help you shop within your budget or insurance limitations. If you have VSP insurance I'm pretty sure they are preferred. They've even given me travel sized bottles of contact solution for free when I didnt have an appointment because I was traveling and asked for it. The 2 different doctors I've seen there were both on the younger side, which is nice because then I feel like they somewhat understand me. They don't rush you through your appointment and always take time to answer my usual barrage of questions. Top notch! read more

Let me start by saying I live in Lincoln Park and have half a dozen to a dozen glasses and vision places I can walk into within a few blocks. I went here on the recommendation of a couple friends who only go here. I was going to write a whole narrative of my experience here but thought you don't need to read all that. Heidi helped me. She was great. So positive and full of energy but very relate-able. Working in retail myself, I value high level service and genuine opinions and suggestions and that is what I received. She listened to what I said, showed me styles that were similar to what I was leaning toward and I couldn't be happier with my experience here. I had an eye exam a few days later. I even forgot almost everything she said and had to write an email asking some questions that she responded to very quickly. Does this place feel pricey? yes. Is it? yes. Should you go here? Undoubtedly, Yes. After a decade of busted up glasses, I bought 2 frames here and already on my first day wearing them have received several compliments. Great place. read more

D/Vision is down the street from my apartment, and my insurance covered it, so it seemed like a win-win. Both my boyfriend and I needed eye exams, so we made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon. The doctor was able to take us right away, and the exams took no time at all. I purchased a six month supply of contacts, and they were able to give me my prescription for glasses. My insurance doesn't cover both contacts and glasses, so being budget-friendly, I planned on getting my glasses from Warby Parker. My boyfriend purchased glasses from D/Vision and had a great experience trying glasses on. I believe it was Jake who helped him. He did an excellent job picking out some conservative options as well as some trendy pairs. You could tell he really cared about his job and about making people look their best. Customer service that is that good is very hard to find! My boyfriend looks great in his new glasses and is really happy with them! read more

PRETENTIOUS! RUDE! 1st bad experience: So I got my FIRST pair of glasses at this place. Admittedly I was a little naive about the costs of frames and lenses, and in hindsight I got taken to the cleaners (even with good insurance), but I was in college at the time and had bigger things to worry about. My prescription is quite mild ( I only use them for driving and at night), I didn't need designer frames made from ultra flexible aluminum and lenses that with UV AND anti-glare coating, but $500 later I was able to see!!! I didn't know what I was doing so it's my fault, I should have done a little more research. But, whatever, I decided to stick with them....cause...why not. Cut to two years later, I scheduled another eye exam.... 2nd bad experience: I had an eye exam scheduled last weekend and they told me to get there early to fill out new insurance paperwork (fine, no biggie). I live about two miles away and I left 1/2 hr before my appointment (normally a 10 minute drive), which is plenty of time. Little did I know that there would be an accident on/around the area causing major traffic jams. I was about a 1/2 mile away and I called to let them know I was close, but may be a few minutes behind because of crazy traffic...in other words a COURTESY CALL. Instead of thanking me for keeping them informed, the lady sighed heavily and proceeded to ream me out about how "it's a Saturday and the doctor is very time sensitive, and that if I'm going to be more than 10 minutes late I should just cancel"......Excuse me!?!?!? I'm not even sure I was going to be late in the first place! I was just trying to be courteous in case there was someone waiting, they could rearrange their schedule in the even that I AM running behind. I was so irritated with her reaction that I told her that would probably be a good idea, and we should just cancel me from their client list all together. There's tons of other eye places in the city that will treat me like a paying customer, not a nuisance. read more

Went there today because I was dead set on a pair of OP sunglasses. The guy who helped me was patient and very helpful. Definitely not too pushy and/or know-it-all. I ended up choosing some other pair but they suited me better anyway which I realized with the help of my bf and the sales associate.
