Missing the side items I requested, I did not ask for potatoes or white rice. I already had the beans and rice entree. Food is dry, no stew here, and it tastes like it was made last night. Beans are hard and taste like a can, the beef was so chewy you can probably blow a bubble with it. The potatoes taste like salt and who makes bad beef patties? No one before here. Whoever said this was good has clearly never had Jamaican food before. This was by far the worst I have ever had in my life. I just wasted fifty bucks on this mess. I wish I could give negative stars. I could not make it even a quarter way through. Nasty. read more

The workers were kind! So customer service was a 9. Not impressed with the wait or food. Went to da blue lagoon food truck, waited 20 minutes for the beef patty, and it was sub par. Not sure that I'll return. Perhaps one of the main entrees would have been a wiser choice. read more

I wanted to provide a fair and unbiased review. In my opinion, the taste of the food did not justify the price. However, I did appreciate the friendly service when I arrived to pick up my order. I ordered the salmon with rice and fried plantains. When I got there, I was the only customer in the store for about 5-10 minutes, I still waited on my food. Love this place. Sadly it's always empty and it seems the owner is doing everything himself. On a Friday night there was one other table while we were there and a few take out orders. The food is just too good for that. Service is friendly and fast despite the one guy doing everything. With reggae music playing makes it feel warm on a cold January night. We ordered 2 jerk chicken lunch specials. The rice & peas were good, the butter vegetables (cabbage) was AMAZING!! The jerk chicken wasn't good. It was very hard and seem to be old. It was like some re-heated chicken from yesterday maybe? It was also more bones than chicken. I would go back and try something else but I wouldn't get the chicken again. I am from Chicago & I love Jamaican food and eat it very often. Jerk chicken is not suppose to be dry and hard like that. That lets me know it was not made fresh off the grill. read more

I drive past Da Blue Lagoon twice a day and finally stopped in! I am glad I did! I've had their food truck before a few years back and it was pretty good, but dining in was even better. I ordered the jerk chicken wings, rice and beans, and plantains. The chicken? ! Perfectly seasoned and full of flavor.The rice and beans? So good! I wish I had two more spoonfuls. The plantains? Two words: Jamaican patties. That's the only thing I've tried here so far because, well, I ordered a LOT of them and they were delicious. You can order these patties with either beef or curry chicken, that come in a "freshly-baked, golden-crusted, mouth-watering exterior. They have a bit of spice in them (especially the chicken), but I'm a baby when it comes to spice and the beef patties were no problem. They're the perfect snack. Next time I come, I look forward to also trying the coconut shrimp or codfish balls. I do recommend that you ask about the heat level of each dish before ordering, as some of their fish dishes have some heat! The interior of Da Blue Lagoon is fun, tropical and casual. I love Da Blue Lagoon! The food is fantastic! The staff is also super friendly. I've had the curry chicken from the food truck and became hooked. The chicken is wonderfully tender and expertly seasoned. My daughter wouldn't stop eating the rice and Mac and cheese. Next time I'm order her her own meal! My husband always orders the Jamaican party meal. He loves the dipping sauce that comes with it. I recently visited with my husband for our third time. This time we invited friends to join us. We arrived around 12:30 to an empty restaurant. The owner - who is quite pleasant- told us that they do most business on the weekend. My husband and I both ordered the Jerk Chicken Scramble offered on their brunch menu. The chicken is so tender and flavorful. It's seriously like eating chicken from the islands! The top the scrambled eggs with the same jerk sauce and it is FIRE! So good. I had just been talking about Da Blue Lagoon during a meeting at work yesterday. It was a meeting that cut interrupted what it nearly every State employee's favorite day during the Summer - Food Truck Thursday! The Statehouse Market is a mighty popular event as it brings a variety of food, veggie, and specialty vendors to the Indiana Government Center complex and gives most employees a rare opportunity to escape the office or cube and socialize a bit while also getting outside. I will admit I look forward to this myself. My dietary preferences lean toward the basic. If there's a pizza vendor, I'm likely knocking on their door. If there's a quality burger vendor, that's my typical back-up plan. I may vary a bit, but I seldom really stretch myself. Da Blue Lagoon is, as one might expect, a Jamaican cuisine food vendor with a brick-and-mortar location on Pendleton Pike and a long history of serving the Indianapolis scene. The food truck menu is a somewhat more limited menu than exists at their Pendleton Pike location, a location that is fairly close to my home yet a location I'll confess I've never visited. After yesterday's food truck experience, I'll be changing that. I'm not sure why I've avoided Da Blue Lagoon. It's not a question of taste. My body tends to be a bit fragile in terms of spices, though I love them. However, as I was wheeling back-and-forth yesterday at the Market I kept coming back to Da Blue Lagoon. Okay, I'll admit that the absence of a pizza or a burger vendor was a factor. Still, there were other vendors I'd tried before and liked. However, I was intrigued by the menu and decided to try it. They offered up both "meals," which are fuller experiences, and "bites" that offer an entree with a side. I opted for a Jerk Chicken "Bite" that included Island Seasoned Fries. The amount of chicken was actually more than I expected. I've had Jerk Chicken before, though after having experienced this I can't help but think it was rather generic Jerk Chicken. This chicken was simply phenomenal. It was generously portioned, beautifully seasoned, and tender in all the right ways. I will admit that the plastic utensils accompanying the meal couldn't begin to actually handle the chicken effectively, though I didn't let that stop me from really enjoying the meal. I'm a paraplegic. People already expect me to be a sloppy eater. The Island Seasoned Fries were exceptional. The serving size wasn't decadent, though it was generous. This was just an awesome meal. It was definitely a bit unusual for me, but my willingness to explore was rewarded with a tasty, vibrant, and nicely seasoned meal. I enjoyed everything about it. Seriously, the employees were friendly in a casual way and the food was quality with the prices fair. It took me way too long to try Da Blue Lagoon, but I will definitely be back and I'll be visiting their Pendleton Pike location in the very near future. read more

Really enjoyed lunch here. This was my second time visiting this spot and the meal was just as good as the first . On my first visit this past summer I had jerk chicken. Which is always a good go to. This time I had jerk salmon rice and peas. Absolutely delicious. I had a bit of cabbage off my friends plate, not to thrilled about that. I like a softer steamed cabbage. But overall good experience. I'm military and just moved here from El Paso, TX. Luckily my friend just moved here as well from the same location. Well today I had to pick her up and take her to work and back home. On the way to the office she pointed out this spot and told me how she tried it out. Normally she would cook and I'd go to her house since she is from Jamaica . Since her house needs some remodeling before she can cook and bake as she please, she went here. After work I decided I would stop by and get my son some patties before heading home. My friend had been telling our other co-workers about the place also and was showing me a video on their Facebook of them making jerk chicken. We walk in and see my other friend (also a co-worker) there picking up herself some oxtails. I don't eat them but her plate was looking pretty right. So my order of patties quickly turned into curry chicken w/rice and peas and cabbage, 3 patties, a Ting and a side of sweet plantain. The owner, super nice. I was excited to see my fav on the menu...Ackee and salt fish and noticed it was served with fried dumplings. I like mine boiled and he said no problem. Other items as well I'd like and he told me how I could get them the way I like. I've been to Jamaica 3 times and not just as a tourist staying in a resort. This place is legit. Trust me. Don't just wait for someone to talk you into buying up the place. I'm praying much success for this place. Once the customers start rolling in there will be more options to keep you coming back. No, I'm not getting anything out of this review other than more options of great food when I walk in instead of prior notice . Friends and I decided to try this place based on a recommendation from someone who frequents here a lot. I had the oxtails which came with red beans and rice and a side of mac & cheese. The oxtails were so tender and seasoned so good I honestly could've just had those by themselves. The red beans and rice had a great flavor however, the Mac & cheese (which I was excited about because it was spicy) was cold and didn't have the best flavor. Our server was new so when we ordered she didn't advise what they were 86 (items they were out of) so after thinking our order was in 20 minutes later the manager came to us to let us know they were 86 steak...the food took another 20 minutes after this. I surprised the hubby with a fun, yet romantic setup on our deck and we sat outside for a couple hours just enjoying each other's company and Jamaican food! We ordered from Da Blue Lagoon and it was AMAZING! I had the Island Trio which had jerk chicken, coconut-curry chicken and fricasseed chicken it was served with rice and beans and choice of 1 side. I got the soca Mac n cheese . I definitely recommend you check them out! There's a location in Lawrence and you can catch their food truck around during the summer! My first time being here and I really appreciated how attentive the staff was, willing to ask if I needed any help with the menu or if I had ever had Jamaican food before. The chicken was soooooo tender and juicy, the Jamaican bbq sauce was bomb & that's orange secret sauce was the perfect sprinkle of heat to set the whole sandwich off! Owner was great. Service was good. I didn't care for the salmon that I picked out. That was my fault though. I never order salmon out and went against my beliefs. It was supposed to be smoked but it tasted like salmon that you get in the pre-frozen package, with some added sauce. The coconut shrimp appetizer hit the spot. I could really taste the coconut flavor and would order them again. Not a lot of ethnic foods in Indy area so it's worth trying. I only eat seafood so I'm sure the chicken is probably fire!!!
