We had a wonderful dinner experience here for a birthday! Our server was great and so knowledgeable and friendly! They started us off with fresh warm rolls which we loved. We ordered many different appetizers and all were fantastic. We also all loved our entrees! The desserts were also amazing. The space itself is nice and cozy with plenty of seating. They also have a lovely outdoor garden seating area for the warmer months which we are looking forward to. 10/10 definitely recommend coming here for amazing service and delicious food! read more

Great Italian restaurant in Litchfield, probably one of the better ones in the area. Food was delicious, fresh and good portions. Tried the pork chop it's was tender and perfectly cooked, the eggplant chip appetizer is large enough for 4 people so be careful because you may not enjoy your meal. The pasta with chicken and broccoli rabe was tasty. The room does get a little loud probably because of the large dining room. Parking can be a challenge too. The food is quite good, but the last time we went there 3 weeks ago there was a table of two couples in their 50s where one of the men had to be on some kind of drug. He was talking and laughing SO loud and constantly banging the table for emphasis. All of the other tables kept looking over at him pointedly and our waitress even told us that the staff were talking about that table in the back and wondering if he was on drugs. But why didn't management come over and tell him to leave? I don't know. However they did bring him more alcohol when he did not appear safe to drive. When you picture your wedding day, you imagine everything you've dreamed about your entire life coming together perfectly. While nothing could take away the joy of marrying my best friend, Da Capo of Litchfield came incredibly close to overshadowing what should have been one of the happiest days of our lives. December 17, we met with one of Da Capo's managers during a casual lunch. We mentioned that we were planning a June wedding, and she enthusiastically told us that Da Capo had hosted weddings before and would be happy to accommodate ours. She painted a beautiful picture of what our day could be. We loved the restaurant, especially the garden, and after that conversation, we were excited to book our wedding there. It felt like the perfect place. A few weeks before our wedding, we finalized our menu with management. We selected an Apple Harvest Salad, Fried Calamari, Da Capo Chips, Rigatoni Bolognese, Chicken Piccata, Penne alla Vodka, bread, assorted desserts, coffee, tea, and soda. We were quoted $46 per person for our 40 guests, and everything appeared to be in order. The morning of our wedding was when everything began to fall apart. We arrived early to decorate, only to find the venue filthy. We had specifically been told that the deck would be power washed before our wedding because we planned to hang wisteria flowers, decorate the space, set up an arch, and arrange the tables ourselves. Instead, there was only one employee there--a cook who also handled landscaping. He had absolutely no idea there was a wedding taking place that day. Shortly afterward, the manager called my husband--not to welcome us or apologize--but to question what he was doing because the owners had seen us on the security cameras hanging our decorations and were upset. Nothing had been prepared. Nothing had been set up. It immediately became obvious that our wedding had not been communicated or planned properly. My husband kept all of this from me while I was getting ready because he didn't want anything to ruin what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful that he carried that burden so I could simply focus on marrying the man I love. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. When we arrived for our reception, we were told that Da Capo "doesn't normally do weddings"--a shocking statement considering they were the ones who encouraged us to book our wedding months earlier and assured us they had hosted weddings before. To make matters worse, there was only **one server assigned to care for 40 guests.** One server was expected to take drink orders, serve appetizers, organize the buffe, refill beverages, clear tables, and serve dessert. This was unfair to our guests and especially unfair to the server, who worked tirelessly and did everything she possibly could. She deserved support that management failed to provide. The food was another enormous disappointment. There was simply **not enough food for the 40 guests we paid for.** Many of our family members barely had anything to eat. Several guests commented that portions were gone before everyone had been served. As the bride, I hardly had an opportunity to eat, and my husband barely ate either. It was heartbreaking to realize that our guests--people who came to celebrate one of the most important days of our lives--left hungry. The professionalism from management was equally disappointing. Rather than acknowledging the problems or attempting to make things right, they were rude and dismissive toward my husband throughout the day. During our wedding ceremony, there were other patrons standing on the deck overlooking our ceremony, creating distractions during one of the most intimate moments of our lives. When my husband respectfully mentioned this concern, instead of apologizing or showing understanding, management responded with attitude and made him feel as though he had no right to even bring it up. On a day when we expected compassion and professionalism, we were instead met with disrespect. What disappointed us the most happened after the wedding. We reached out to management in hopes of discussing what had gone wrong and giving them an opportunity to acknowledge our concerns. Instead, we were met with more attitude and defensiveness. There was no genuine apology, no accountability, and no indication that they understood why we were so disappointed. The overall impression was that they believed everything had gone perfectly and that our concerns simply didn't matter. As customers who entrusted them with one of the most important days of our lives, that response was incredibly disheartening. No couple should have to worry about venue staff, inadequate food, poor communication, or rude treatment on their wedding day. Even more importantly, no couple should have their legitimate concerns dismissed after the fact. DaCapo gets 0 stars what once was a place we loved we will never patronize again. read more

On December 11 I purchased a gift card for relatives in the Litchfield area in the amount of $100. I live on Cape Cod. The DaCapo online website advertised a promotion whereby I would get a $10 bonus for each $50 paid for the card--thus $20 in my case. I paid $110 for the card, including $5 for "shipping" and $5 for "handling" (both exorbitant add-ons for mailing a card). I never did receive the $20 bonus, however. On 1/9, my wife and I were in the area and dined at DaCapo along with the recipients of the card. When there I asked about the bonus I didn't receive. The manager advised me that such bonuses were given only to those who obtained gift cards in person at the restaurant! Upon returning home I re-visited the website. The promotion was still there. It still said nothing about having to get the cards at the restaurant. I have written to DaCapo, via their online contact form, asking for an explanation. It is now 20 days since and I have not received a reply. Their business practices are lacking in a number of ways. First, the denial of the bonus $20 because the gift card was not purchased in person, with no mention of this requirement on the website. Next, the failure of the manager to make some concession when we were at the restaurant (a party of six people--take it off the bill perhaps?). Then, the discourtesy of not replying to the email inquiry. The food and the ambiance at DaCapo are both commendable. However, this example of customer service will make those in our group think twice about going there again. read more

Quite an improvement over a meal we had here 2 years ago. My criticisms this time are constructive, and in earnest, a way to help them restore this restaurant to the once glory it had when they first opened. This is the closest they've been. I don't repeat my reviews or rewrite them unless there are improvements and I always give local businesses a second chance. Let's start with the waitstaff and hosts. When we arrived there were three ladies at the concierge podium and they all greeted us. We directed the host to where we wanted to sit, and she accommodated us with no problem. The lot was full but the restaurant was at only 1/3 the capacity, but there was a nice, warm friendly atmosphere. Within minutes the water was brought over by a young man. He was friendly and cordial and set the table as well. Then we were greeted by our waiter. A curly haired young guy who was friendly, well-spoken and attentive. The food: We ordered a Chicken Caprese and Lasagna. The Caprese was delicious. But the area of opportunity here is the white stracciatella drizzled on it. With this dish, which has become somewhat of a traditional dish, you expect it a certain way and when it comes out so different, you are immediately unhappy, then you adjust. The reason why this dish needs to have fresh mozzarella balls and not a squeezed on white stracciatella, is because you want to pick up the tomato bite, the Mozzarella ball or bite , and the arugula and the chicken in the same bite, with the four distinct flavors. The peppery arugula, the crispy chicken, the acidic tomato, and the creamy cheese. This dish gets messy after three bites, and all the flavors get mixed and there's no more distinction. I had a bite and found it to be delicious, but I could see after a while that it became too muddled. Please reconsider this dish, but it just doesn't work for its intended eating experience. Also dishes that looked like things are squeezed out of a bottle, tend to look amateur. The potatoes were delicious, but with so many piled on this dish, it's obvious there is skimming on the protein. A traditional Caprese chicken is pounded and flat and should take over the whole dish. Usually, Two pieces. Finally on the Caprese, my partner got this dish because he is diabetic. So the protein was the most important part, and in the end it ended up being a carb heavy dish. The Lasagna: Very quick criticisms here. When it came out I was happy about the generous portion. I was lucky to take a piece home and will have it for lunch today. The sauce that surrounded the dish was absolutely delicious but overwhelmed the lasagna which had very little sauce in between, but this is likely why it stayed together better. So, perhaps the same amount of sauce is necessary, but the dish makes it look like it's soupy. A flatter less of a bowl shape would show the sides of the lasagna better. The lasagna itself was tight and composed, and not a nasty sloppy mess. I could cut at it with a knife and it stayed tight. The cheeses, ricotta, the meat, were all delicious and beautifully constructed. I just wanted it to have some character, a little burnt on the top, some caramelization of the cheese on top would have been great. There were some pieces of the shredded mozzarella on top that were not melted and that could have been cooked better. Overall, a very good dish, and we took the potatoes and half the lasagna home. The prices were reasonable on some dishes. Some like the single portion of the Penne a la Vodka with shrimp, would have cost over $34 The atmosphere: The banquettes are a bit worn and the plastic covering on the tufted black backs of the banquettes are coming off and might be time for them to be replaced. Always instills confidence when the atmosphere is clean and kept up. The gas fireplace was on, and that was a nice touch on a winter night. Overall a solid experience and some areas of opportunity to make it better can be seized. We will come back, and you should too! read more

He also was incredibly helpful during a low blood sugar episode, which we cannot thank him enough for. Ambiance: part of the reason I gave 4 stars: the patio looked gorgeous, however the interior booths could use updating- ripped leather doesn't really scream cute. Most importantly, FOOD/drink: highly recommend the zucchini chips, didn't get a picture because we ate them so fast! Gamberi pasta is very filling and delicious, was not expecting the spice it packed but overall good flavor! Drinks: highly recommend the strawberry limonada! The peach sangria that was on special was more raspberry vodka forward, but it was drinkable. They told us they didn't have da capo chips tonight. they forgot our appetizer and brought out our entrees which they had to take back because our appetizer wasn't brought out yet. While we were eating our appetizer we saw two other tables get da capo chips. I asked a waitress what the deal was then the manager came out and said the fryer was broken down at the time. Great food and Amazing service! We have gone to Da Capo's for years and their food is always solid if not great. The one issue I've had with Da Capo is the quality of service, which is usually sub-par. I decided to book a table for our anniversary this year because we hadn't been there for a while and my wife and I both enjoy the food. We were very happy with the Margherita pizza and Gamberi pasta dish along with Da Capo chips for an appetizer. Our server, Matthew R was INCREDIBLE! He was very attentive and made our dining experience wonderful. My wife and I ordered everything with the idea of sharing all plates. Matthew proactively asked if we would like the kitchen to split our plates before he brought them out even though we never let him know our plans on dining. Matthew also asked if we would like to finish our appetizer before he brought out the entrees and made sure to keep our drinks refilled. I cannot recommend enough having Matthew as your server, he has really made dining at Da Capo a pleasant experience. He offered recommendations when we decided to branch out a bit on the menu as well. Planned our Sat evening dinner here to be the highlight of our weekend in CT. Our server was very nice and efficient but the food was really sub par. Upon the recommendation of our server, we each ordered the baby back ribs special. The ribs did not seem to be baby back but regular pork ribs. They were so fatty none of us finished them. The food here has been delicious for years, but honestly is so tucked out of the way on the outskirts of Torrington I tend to forget about it. The interior (pre-Covid) can also get a little loud I suspect because of the tiles on the ceiling. However, I have recently discovered their Seafood Risotto with corn, scallops, shrimp, and (yum) lobster. It's delicious, and is now my go-to idea for lunch. Their response time is pretty good - the food was ready for pick up before the time quoted. We ordered a family favorite for an appetizer ; Da Capo chips. Normally containing eggplant and squash it was basically all eggplant. Had we known we would have ordered something else. While the portions were very good size the meals were basically tasteless. This wasn't simply under seasoned , this was not seasoned. Service was just horrible with us constantly waiting for every single aspect of the meals. From drinks to appetizer all the way to getting the bill and getting the receipt. We got there early enough that there wasn't a lot of diners at the time so there was no excuse at all to the length of time it took to get anything at all from our wait person. One of our favorite restaurants. The outdoor setting, service, food and value cannot be beat. We live about 45 minutes away, so it's always lunch for us, and it's always worth the drive (although the drive from Middlebury along tree-lined, scenic roads isn't too hard to take). My rigatoni bolognese was excellent- very large portion and a great value at $26. In addition I ordered a specialty drink from their Fall drink list, a apple and caramel inspired old fashioned with Litchfield Distillery bourbon. However, as soon as the waitress placed it in front of me, it put a frown on my my face. It was so light in color, I knew there was no way there could be more than a smattering of bourbon in , and I was correct. The description said there was apple, caramel, cinnamon and cherry flavors in the drink, but the drink only tasted like a red-hot cinnamon syrup of some kind the waitress told me is used to make it. No hint of any other flavor. It is very frustrating to pay $15 for an old fashioned , and not even be able to taste the bourbon. Ordered the calamari as an appetizer they were fresh crunchy and not greasy. The table also ordered cheese bread and octopus. The octopus had great flavor plated beautifully cheese bread was good. I ordered the arugula salad with steak excited to get my medium steak cooked perfectly. The plate is large so eat half but they dressed the arugula nicely tops Just escalated the dish. My in-laws had lasagna and chicken parmigiana claimed it was the best they had had. Over I highly recommend price is reasonable and food is excellent. I'm very disappointed with a more recent experience at DaCapo. This is one of my family's favorite places to eat, and we have come here for so long. We always enjoy the food and the drinks and the quality of staff. I was out to lunch with my family and I ordered a drink. When I received my drink, I noticed that there is a small fly in my drink. I explained the situation to the waitress who insisted that it was a strawberry seed, not a dead fly. I asked her number of times to please replace my drink, and she kept insisting it was "just a strawberry seed". After persistence, she eventually replaced my drink and I had to fight to make sure that I was not charged for two. read more

eight of my cousins and I had a meal at De Capo in Litchfield on September 29th 2025. While the seating was good, both the service and quality of some of the dishes were lacking. I ordered a lobster roll after quizzing our waitress about it and when it was delivered to our table it was so small in size that I was shocked. I currently live out of state. Having ordered many seafood dishes in Ct over the past 35 years I was dumbfounded when this dish was delivered and the meat was barely visible in the small hotdog roll. My wife had the broccoli rabe which was actually a good size order and very good. The fish and chips order two people of our party had was also very small in size. Nice location and setting but when it came to the lobster roll, I'd give it four thumbs down. I just found the price of $45 to be high which I would have gladly accepted had it been reasonably sized like a meal proportion verses the size of a miniature appetizer. I am truly sorry to have to give such a poor review but it is what it is. My expectations were within reason but my meal was very lacking. read more

This "sniffed in" at about 4.5 stars... The DA CAPO CHIPS consisting of zucchini and eggplant fried chips with cucumber dip were unusual for an Italian restaurant but quite good. We had these last summer when we visited here for the first time. RATING = A CIPOLLA E CAPRINO -- a pizza featuring goat cheese, caramelized onions, walnuts, EVOO, fresh mozzarella, honey drizzle. This thin crust white pie (olive oil base) was excellent with a nice blend of salty savory with a touch of honey sweetness. I love food that pulls me in different directions and thinks at least slightly outside of the box. This all worked very well. RATING = A I vetoed dessert due to getting the CANNOLO pastry last year and recalling it was a bit of a sugar bomb and not authentic enough. Consumer beware! Don't order take out. There food quality is great, yet it is over shadowed by lack of emphasis on ensuring your take out order is complete. I have ordered take out over 30 times from this restaurant the past two years and 8/10 times they have messed an item up on our order. Usually it is something like forgetting the salad dressing which is frustrating because who doesn't want a $15-$18 salad without the dressing? I usually call them and have to drive back to pick up the salad dressings they forget. More recently I ordered an apple salad for my sister in law and my wife and they literally didn't put any apples in it. We called them - they said they would "refund" us. They did not. I generally overlook minor mistakes because people are human and stuff happens - but they are SO consistent in messing up a take out order I felt it was necessary to write a review. I think what frustrated me with the most recent mistake was the fact they said they would make it right by offering a partial refund. Well, the didn't do that either. This is was the one and only time they offered anything for messing up an order. Now with the fact they jacked up prices on the salads and reduced the sizes of the salads there is no reason to go back here. read more
