I don't think I've ever seen a place that advertises itself as a pizza destination have as large of a non-pizza menu as Countryside Pizza and Restaurant does. They are a full blown diner with every breakfast dish 9served all day) under the sun plus, salads, wraps, club sandwiches, burgers (half pounders, by the way), fried seafood, grinders, pasta, Italian dishes, Greek dishes, and pizzas. Seriously, this place is incredible. I took advantage of their breakfast all day option and picked up a Breakfast Bowl with home fries, crumbled sausage, jalapenos, onions, a sunny side up egg, a slice of bread, and a side of salsa. Man oh man was everything great. Service was great too, with friendly smiling counter folks everywhere. Whatever the time of day is when your hunger pangs strike, you really can't go wrong with driving out to Harwinton and eating at the Countryside, a very sweet local place without a hint of pretension. read more

I drive by this place all the time. Have gotten takeout for dinner a handful of times and it's always been very good and reasonably priced! Today was the first time I've come in for breakfast and I'm kicking myself for not stopping in sooner! I'll get to the amazing food in a minute, first I'll say that everyone was so kind and welcoming! The wait wasn't bad at the time I went, but I've heard of people having to wait a bit. So either go early or later than the typical 9am breakfast rush if you don't want to wait. I was able to get two seats at the counter top right away and moved to a table once one opened up. Inside is cute and cozy. Not a ton of seating and this isn't a place to sit and linger after you've finished eating but we didn't feel rushed at all! Now for the food! The chicken and waffles was excellent! It's made with pearl sugar waffles which are the traditional Belgian waffle! The chicken was crispy on the outside while still being moist! Also got the biscuits and gravy which was very flavorful without being too spicy and biscuits were great! Eggs were slightly overcooked! I went for breakfast. Ordered the countryside Benedict and a side of bacon. My son and I wanted to split the meal. We reasonably don't finish all of our meal, So the waitress offered to split it on Two plates, I thanked her for offering. Then she shows up 3 minutes later and tells me that the cook wants an Xtra $3.00 because my son and I are splitting the meal. Now I'm not cheap but definitely insulted. I have been in the food service industry for 38 years and never charged anyone Xtra because they wanted to share the meal. If we split a small pizza would I be upcharged as well. So I definitely will not be going back. And we refused the meal on principle. Paid 7.50 for our two coffee's, gave the waitress 2 bucks and we won't be going back. Shame on them since we will be working in that area for next week. For 3 bucks they lost our breakfast and lunch for the next week. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by Countryside! We came for breakfast before Christmas tree shopping on a cold morning and had a very hearty breakfast. You won't find mimosas or avocado toast here, just good country breakfast that will fuel you for the day (or a food coma). There isn't a ton of seating but we had just enough room. My family members all ordered the lumberjack (eggs, meat, toast, home fries, & pancakes/French toast), and I opted for the triple play (no hash browns or toast). We were disappointed that we couldn't sub their famous maple bacon or sausage for our included meat and had to instead get a side order separately. The maple bacon wasn't my favorite honestly but I can appreciate that others would like it! The French toast was some of the best I've had - simple and cooked perfectly. Also the breakfast sausage was out of this world. I certainly wasn't hungry when I left. Overall the service was quick and everyone was friendly. I wish they had an option for a side of fruit to balance out the heavy carbs and meat, but this is a stick to your ribs kind of breakfast! We will be back for sure! read more

I have dietary restrictions that requires gluten free bread. They did not have it so I bring my own. They recently decided to carry gluten free bread, but I continued to bring my own. The owner was not happy about it claiming I encouraged other people to bring in food from outside and it would affect his bottom line. I only order items that include bread in the price. I could understand if I brought a beverage and didn't order one of his but it's not costing him anything for me to bring in my own, in fact I'm saving him money. As if one person with a dietary restriction will cause enough people to start bringing in their own food to effect his profit. When I tried to explain, he was rude and unyielding. Stopped in for lunch a couple weeks back. Tiny joint, not much for seating from what it looked like. Sat outside since it was a nice day. Huge menu with lots of options. There is something here for everyone. Prices were reasonable. Had the baked pastrami grinder. All our food was enjoyable. Only complaint is the menu layout and option style. So delicious! Been here before for pizza and wings best ever! Came this morning before annual apple and pumpkin picking for breakfast. It was some of the best breakfast I've had in a long time! Old school small time diner feel, friendly service and delicious meal! I had the cinnamon raisin French toast with maple bacon, I shouldn't have but I finished the whole plate looked so good I forgot to take a picture! My son had a waffle it was perfectly golden and hot. My husband had the country fried steak with eggs and country gravy. I kept stealing his potatoes sooooo good! Mom is in a wheelchair and the staff was more than helpful getting her into and out of the building. My family and I have been going here for years, we would often stop here and at landing zone to get food. Their food is good but their customer service needs to be improved. One afternoon I called and was placed on hold. Once 5 min had passed, I began hearing them take other phone orders. I proceeded to hear them take 5-10 more orders over the span of 15 minutes until I hung up and called back. When I called back, I was immediately placed on hold and the same thing happened this time with about 1-2 orders. I was asked how my breakfast was and I informed Kora that my egg whites were runny. I ordered over medium. I showed her the eggs on my plate and how the egg whites were runny. she responded with an attitude that my eggs were cooked over medium. she didn't offer to cook them more and walked away from the table making a snarky remark saying , " can I have my over medium people help me out here" I got up to pay my bill and asked her if she said that to make a statement because I responded that my eggs were not cooked as requested over medium. She said yes and proceeded to tell me that I complained about the pizza two years ago so why do I come back. I Explained that I come back because I'm a nice person and wanted to give the business another try. My husband and I both got sick from the pizza minutes after we ate it. Great little restaurant and good service! First off, I want to commend them on the fact that they automatically default to PIE SLICES for their pizzas! Thank you! For some reason, many restaurants in CT default to square slices on a pizza pie which is ridiculous! All the food was homemade and you can easily tell that none of the food had been frozen. We ordered a few different dishes which included the onion rings, Eggplant parmesan, a small pepperoni pizza and a ham and cheese grinder. The food was great and the prices were very reasonable. Countryside is a smallish rural diner that looks sort of rundown in a nondescript way. Please don't let that fool you, as it did us for many months. When we finally got around to eating there -- which we have a few times now -- we found a delightful diner experience. There aren't a lot of tables/booths inside, and it can get crowded sometimes because the locals know it's good. The family who run it are really nice, engaging people, which wouldn't matter at all if they didn't turn out tasty meals, and their servers couldn't be more likable and efficient. But it's all about the food, of course. The breakfasts are huge: a three egg omelet is filled with everything imaginable and includes seasoned home fries and toast, all delicious. The coffee always seems fresh. For dinner, they serve up some thick burgers and wraps, salads, pizza (we've never tried that) and some full Italian-style meals, all quite reasonably priced. Honestly, we've never had a bad dining visit here. And then there's this..... We were eating a burger the other night when a guy came up to us and asked us to try some wings (Countryside makes good ones) which were soaked in his own special sauce. Turns out he a semi driver from Florida who passes through this way from time to time and has won challenges in Texas for his sauces. He offered the sauce to Countryside's owner, who used it to gauge the reaction of customers. It was terrific! -- we took some home -- and you can get it there now. Seemed to us a story that says something very positive about the restaurant and its people. Countryside is just a blip on the food map, for sure, but it merits praise. P.S. Since moving to Burlington over 5 years ago - I waited 5 years too long to try this place. The BEST wings I have ever had. The sauce choices are amazing. *I like ordering the sauces on the side. You can also purchase nice size containers to take home with you. The server said everything is made on site from scratch. The burger was also very good (and oversized as well). There have been a few incidents where he had to wait for us to pick him up from the bus stop after school because we were running late. One time he was sitting at the bench near the restaurant and he forgot to pick up his trash and the owners were angry about that which we totally understand. My son apologised for what he did and we also apologised on his behalf. Recently my son had a half day which we forgot to pick him up on time and again he had to wait at the bench at the restaurant outside. He left his school bag on the bench and we came home and the next day he was looking for his bag. He remembered that he left it at the bench at the restaurant and at the end of the day asked the restaurant owner if they found a bag on the bench. The owner was angry at him and said that he threw his bag in the dumpster and he can go check if it's still there. We found his demeanour to be very rude and unprofessional as well as uncompassionate. We spoke to the owner and he told us next time we come to his restaurant property at the bus stop, he will call the cops. He said we are not allowed to be on this property even though we were told by the magnet school that it is a legitimate bus stop. We told him that it is not in our hands who decides where the bus stop for our son's magnet school will be and we politely asked him not to start trouble with us. We don't like to file complaints on businesses unless it is legit to do so. In this case we found it proper to post this complaint because we felt violated and threatened. We endured the whole experience of having our son's school bag to be thrown in a dumpster to be highly barbaric and uncivilized by this restaurant owner. read more

I asked to substitute potatoes and toast for an extra egg instead and she flat out refused and said no substitutions. Then when I was done and hadn't eaten the home fries, and didn't want to take them with me, or toast she was disgusted, saying what a waste! Asked the coach if he was responsible for all the kids; even though the parents went in with their kids. It was passed 1pm and when we asked for a lunch menu we were told that lunch started at 2 and if we wanted lunch we had to wait. 1 dad asked for a turkey club; was told that it would take a long time because it was not lunch time. We have been to Countryside countless times, and the reason is because it's just downright terrific. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. The owners and staff are always helpful and very friendly. There are many good places that are closer to us, but this place is just so good that we travel the extra distance without hesitation. Generous portions of very reasonably priced homemade meals, what ever you order, nothing out of a can, pasta sauces and everything from scratch. Breakfast hash is absolutely the best I ever had and the home fries are the real deal. The sandwiches on the house made foccacia bread are a must try item. Homemade soups too, especially the clam chowder. Great gourmet burgers cooked just the way you ask for them by great chef's. Then there's the pizza. They use basically the same dough as in their foccacia, which makes it unique and tastier than any others in the area, including Torrington. They don't hold back on the toppings either, it's real filling. This is like having a good home cooked meal. read more

Wonderful little restaurant with very sweet owners. Looks like a hole in the wall, which always gets my hopes up for a great secret place :) breakfast is really quite good, including home fries with flavor (often hard to find), homemade hash (which elsewhere might be gristly, isn't here), pancakes, french toast all tasty. Lunch and dinner also great, though the pizza dough is probably not homemade. Love the Greek food on the menu, and the grinders and burgers are great. Kids love it and are welcomed warmly.
