Fish n fries-10/10 would eat again!!

It's not just a breakfast nook, it's not just a lunch diner, it's an amalgamation of a pizza parlor and everything in between. 65/10 would eat here again (customer service rocks too)

We were pleasantly surprised by Countryside! We came for breakfast before Christmas tree shopping on a cold morning and had a very hearty breakfast. You won't find mimosas or avocado toast here, just good country breakfast that will fuel you for the day (or a food coma). There isn't a ton of seating but we had just enough room. My family members all ordered the lumberjack (eggs, meat, toast, home fries, & pancakes/French toast), and I opted for the triple play (no hash browns or toast). We were disappointed that we couldn't sub their famous maple bacon or sausage for our included meat and had to instead get a side order separately. The maple bacon wasn't my favorite honestly but I can appreciate that others would like it! The French toast was some of the best I've had - simple and cooked perfectly. Also the breakfast sausage was out of this world. I certainly wasn't hungry when I left. Overall the service was quick and everyone was friendly. I wish they had an option for a side of fruit to balance out the heavy carbs and meat, but this is a stick to your ribs kind of breakfast! We will be back for sure!

Great Food with generous portions. Prices are reasonable and the staff made me feel at home. They have found a new patron on my way back from NY to hone in Terryville. If I could give them 6 stars, I would

Solid breakfast, good homemade sausage (not too fatty), big omelettes, friendly service. When busy, they need more waitresses.

While the entire meal started off with a salad, of course, the next appetizer was the tagliatelle Bolognese and the pasta was definitely the main star of the dish. I could tell that the pasta was homemade as it was very light and flavorful. The Bolognese itself was well balanced and not acidic. I chose the lamb for dinner and I was very happy with the port wine reduction, and impressed with the light compliment of the sunchoke puree. The herb crust executed on the lamb was extremely flavorful and not too earthy. While I was really going back-and-forth between the Seabass and the lamb I am happy. I chose the lamb for the main course. Panna cotta for dessert and I'm happy I chose a lighter option to fishing the evening. I feel like after all of the courses I had the Panna cotta really completed the meal. It was perfectly silky. I could tell the cream was delicately infused with lemon and the blackberry couli was a nice touch to add a level of flavor to the dessert which didn't overpower the panna cotta itself. Overall, I'm really impressed. Especially since I was in attendance with a large party. All of our dishes came out in a timely manner and were well spaced to really appreciate each dish. The cocktail menu and the wine selection was also very impressive and I feel like the amount of options were well balanced, many of which would complement each dish. Our service was great! The servers were friendly, personable, and very prompt with bringing out each dish. I especially appreciated how authentic each server was. The girls we had were especially helpful in assisting us in our selections in which options to choose off the menu based on their favorites. Overall, I would highly recommend coming to this restaurant if you want, authentic, flavorful, and delicious homemade Italian dishes. I can tell the chef puts time and effort into each plate not only in building these flavors but also presentation. Coming here, would be great for dates, special events, anniversaries, and to have a nice night out with the family, friends, and someone special.

Second visit for a family birthday last night and they exceeded our first fantastic impression…read more Service is unmatched. The feel is literally as if we are in a Tuscan farm home. There is not a more welcoming and comfortable place I can think of. The food backs it up - which is the main point. My only suggestion for first-time diners, perhaps ask your server if the chef will consider delaying courses a bit. In our group of four, we wanted to try/share 4 different apps and a meat and cheese board. Because of their dedication to a promptly and accurately coursed meal, all four apps and the boar all arrived at the time time (by design). Makes it really uncomfortable at the table with so many plates. But if that's my only gripe - that's all you need to know. This Is A Must Go!!! My favorite restaurant around.

Typically, Harwinton is too…read morefar out of my way to go to because I tend not to go north of where I live unless I take a bus towards Hartford or I am going to Watertown. However, my mom had taken me to a renaissance fair in the area and as we left this was the first barbecue option I could find on Yelp. It helped that it was less than 10 minutes from the Ren, so it was a very quick drive. We opted for outdoor seating just because it was visible from where we parked in its plaza. I do like the Thomas Edison theme this restaurant has going on. The decor and the pictures help drive that theme home here which is a nice touch. I did overhear that this restaurant tends to pull people from Bristol and Thomaston which I can understand. They're both fairly close to Harwinton, especially Thomaston who borders this town to the south. The service here is on top of things as well. We had Chrissy who was very friendly, and always willing to answers we had about what we had (I did ask a few questions about the food brought out). While only one other outdoor table was in use upon arrival, about half of them were being served by the end of the meal. So let's start off with the drinks. Mom had the Mango Loco while I had the Campfire Old Fashioned. You also get refills of iced water from a glass jug. I did get to try mom's drink. At its best, it has a very fruity, sweet, refreshing flavor. However, as that drink went on, mom commented that the finish exposed how uneven the Mango Loco was. I took another sip of it at that and it confirmed her thoughts. That sweet mango taste was largely missing in its finish. A good stir after serving would probably help things along, but the taste should always be even if possible. As for my drink, this is where my first question was asked: what bourbon did they use? Turns out, it's made locally in Litchfield. It uses Litchfield Distillery Double Barrel, a 90-proof bourbon. A lot was definitely put on because I noticed a very strong flavor with this one even though I've cooked with much stronger bourbons. It wasn't subtle at all, but the overall drink was still a good drink. The toasted marshmallow was toasted to perfection. For the appetizer, 6-piece grilled chicken wings with their Blackberry BBQ Sauce. The sauce was very tangy, but like the bourbon it was not subtle. Mom did say the chicken was overcooked, but I didn't think so. It was able to come off the bone okay enough. These were good wings, but I think having the blue cheese dip was the star of the dish. The blue cheese dip went along with these wings perfectly, and they even included some celery here as well. For the entrees, mom had the fish and chips while I had the brisket with sides of coleslaw and Mac and cheese. I actually got to try everything here except for the tartar sauce. While mom like her fish, I'm glad she was the one that got it and not me. It was greasy on the bottom, and the bite I tried had some of the breading I couldn't chew from the rest. Like, does breading have bones or something? That's what it felt like from the bite I took. But it was still a juicy fish and the breading had a light crisp to it. Likewise, the fries were also a light crisp upon arrival. Were they the best fries I had ever had from a restaurant? No! But they were competent. Onto my brisket, it had some more of that BBQ sauce from earlier, but this time it complimented the food a fair bit better than it did with the chicken. The brisket was honestly the best food item of this bunch here. It was very tender, and soft. They did a great job with the presentation here I must say. It was as if they were truly locking in when making the brisket. Cole slaw was good, but could use a bit more mayo. The Mac and cheese was also good, the shells professionally cooked, and the cheese was good. If there was one criticism for the Mac and cheese, the cheese pull could be improved. When I went to another restaurant with a friend of mine a few months back, I was able to see an epic cheese pull from their bite. There wasn't much of a cheese pull here. Still the Mac and cheese was a great side dish and I'm glad I went with what I did. Overall, I would say that after averaging the food, the ambiance, and the service, I think a 4 is the appropriate rating for this restaurant. The food had some moments of greatness and was overall a good meal, but I did find with almost everything we were served that there are some improvements that could be made. The service and theming make up for those shortcomings. I wouldn't mind coming back to try other things though. It's a good place all-in-all.

If comfort had an address, it would be Mario's. We always kick things off with a small pizza for the table, because that's the law here. The bread and tomato relish? Should be sold by the gallon. I would pay an irresponsible amount of money for it. If you know, you know. Last night's table lineup was elite: * One of us ordered the veal Neapolitan -- fresh, tender veal in a vodka sauce so good it should have its own fan club. * Another went for the penne alla vodka with shrimp and scallop, which was hands‑down the best dish of the night. The seafood takes an already top‑tier vodka sauce and somehow makes it even better. As a Jersey boy, I don't say that lightly. * I decided to go rogue and step outside my usual penne vodka or steak. I wanted veal parm. I've never had anything fried here besides the calamari (which is amazing), so I figured: why not? Here's the plot twist: The veal parm was the only dish I've ever had at Mario's that didn't hit the usual Mario's standard. The veal itself was totally different from the fresh, delicious cut in the Neapolitan, and the breading had a little... funk. Almost like it had been prepped ahead and picked up a freezer‑burn vibe. Not bad -- just not Mario's‑level magical. But here's the thing: One imperfect dish doesn't change the fact that Mario's is one of our all‑time favorite restaurants. The atmosphere, the people, the consistency, the warmth -- it's all unbeatable. We love this place and will absolutely be back, probably embarrassingly soon. Mario's is home. Even when one dish misses, the experience never does.

There was some confusion with their dinner special menu and the waitress kept coming back to give us the updated one. It got her frazzled. So, my friend waited a very long time to get the glass of wine she ordered then finally reminded her of it after we received our appetizer. The appetizer was a daily special of Hot Antipasto consisting of stuffed mushrooms, baked clams and mozzarella sticks. All Delicious. We also had this lovely bread and this tomato relish kind of sauce on the table. We really liked that too. For our entree we shared the Shrimp and scallops in a vodka sauce. It was really good. I'd definitely come back here when i'm in the area again.
