I had high expectations since the reviews were so great but sadly I was left disappointed. I ordered the mini plate and had the kalua pork and it was so salty!! I couldn't even finish the few bites I had. It actually upset my stomach. The rice and Mac salad were fine. I also ordered a malasada with coconut to try since I've never had one and it wasn't that great either. The coconut cream was super lumpy and I just wasn't pleased with it at all. I ended up throwing everything away. It was $12 down the drain basically. Cute little shop and nice employees but I probably won't ever go back.. just my opinion. read more

Out buying groceries, but first rule of grocery shopping is, don't do it on an empty stomach. I had a couple places bookmarked in this area and decided to go here since it's been a while since I had some ono grindz. After looking over the menu we decide on a combo plate of Kalua pork and yakitori beef and a Bento box. So combo plate comes with 2 scoops rice, 1 scoop macaroni salad, a crab puff, and lumpia. They serve it in a plastic tray and the portion section for the rice and mac salad are the exact same size. 2 scoops of rice are not the size of 2 scoops you may be used to anywhere else. I ran out of rice before finishing up the pork and beef. The mac salad was mostly flavorless and the rest of it was pretty mediocre. The Bento box fared mostly the same. There was some added ramen noodles which again were flavorless as was the shrimp tempura which also lacked crunch. One thing we did enjoy was the malasada. That tasty piece of filled dough is the main reason I'm hitting this place with 3 stars. If you're craving some proper malasadas this is probably your only spot in this area. Other than that, food overall, quite honestly, was forgettable and mediocre. read more

We returned from our Hawaiian vacation last week and wanted to see if this place measured up to the food we had there. I had the kahlua pork mini lunch with rice, lumpia and macaroni salad. My husband had the kahlua pork nachos, and fries with gravy. The pork was authentic, just like the luau we went to in Maui. My husband loved his nachos. The chips aren't traditional tortilla chips, but lighter. It was great food, for a good value. We used the check in offer for the donut, filled with coconut cream. Wow. It was warm, with sugar on it, buttery and delicious. The owners grew up on Oahu, so are the real deal. She told us about their $3.95 breakfast special that we will definitely have to try. At our first opportunity, my wife and I visited Da Coconut Cafe, and received a pleasant greeting from one of the owners. I ordered my favorite, Loco Moco, and of course, one of each type of malasada, and...I was so distracted by those malasadas that I can't remember what my wife ordered, (shhhh, don't tell). The Loco Moco was great, but before I tried it, I had to try a couple of those freshly-made malasadas, still warm in the box, (my favorites were the plain and the coconut-filled). They were great, as was the Loco Moco. I do remember that my wife enjoyed her entree, even if I don't remember what it was. I ordered the Meat Jun and it was sooo delicious. My friend ordered the Chicken Katsu but received BBQ Chicken instead. The lady working immediately fixed that issue and brought over a side chicken Katsu to go with the BBQ chicken. Of course while there had to have a Malasada for dessert. I ordered from Da Coconut Cafe through pickup. It was my first time trying it out and it was amazing. The best Hawaiian food in the Temecula area. I recommend the katsu plate as it was a super huge portion. I also got the curry version for my dad who said it was not too spicy and super delicious. Their Mac salad is the perfect amount of chewiness and flavor. I also got two orders or spam musubi and those were super flavorful and delicious. I ordered the Shoyu poke and it was some of the best poke I've tasted. I recommend if you get the big katsu plate, get a half pound of poke to save some of the rice and eat them as a couple of separate meals. Authentic island style food with excellent service. Friendly owners- Cheri was born and raised in Hawaii, and Chalo was born and raised in Samoa. They met and married in Hawaii and decided to open this restaurant after Chalo's retirement from the US Army. Many of the employees come from Hawai'i too. They know how real island food should taste and share it with aloha. Malasadas are my favorite and I'm amazed they have it here! I also love meat jun. The availability of meat jun outside of Hawaii is extremely low so I'm glad they offer it. I can't wait to come back and try everything they offer. They have everything from lumpia, saimin, teriyaki burgers, Redondo's hot dogs, S&S saimin to Dole whip and Portuguese doughnuts (malasadas). Something for everyone. Ordered Loco Moco/Spam Musubi/lumpia/MAC salad/Pineapple Sorbet. Loco Moco was "OK" edible. My husband liked it. Spam Musubi was DRY and no teriyaki sauce. So disappointing!! Lumpia was pretty good. They are home made, but they tasted more like egg rolls than anything. MAC salad is my favorite part of Hawaiian BBQ. Well not this one!! It was literally plain pasta, no salt. Light Mayo, and carrots. ?!?!? So disappointing to say the least. The pineapple sorbet was edible. It was extremely sweet and tasted like fake canned pineapple juice... Felt like we stepped into a friend's home! Friendly staff, smiles the whole time. The female worker even reminded me of the free malasada with a yelp check-in! Retired military man with his granddaughter got a "Thank you for your service!" as he came in and received a military discount! I am also a large fan of their chicken curry, it was recommended to me by their cashier Tiffany and it was amazing. Even though it's on the main drag, Da Coconut Cafe is set back in a little strip mall so it's easy to overlook. If you're craving some island food it's not a bad spot but it does have some issues. INSIDE: There are a handful of tables, a couple TVs playing sports, and you order at the counter. They also sell a handful of Hawaiian items (shoyu, jam, mac nuts, etc.). There are paper menus, but we were told that the menus on the mounted TV screens were more accurate. Fair enough, but with a healthy number of choices the three screens with the menus are a bit small/difficult to read. MALASADAS: We shared a plain and a haupia (coconut cream) malasada. They were delicious! If I were in the area I'd come back here just for the malasadas. Not greasy, not too heavy, cooked to order (so it took a bit of a wait). LUMPIA: Freshly fried, crispy on the outside and hot on the inside these lumpia had a good meat to veggie ratio, but was made with ground beef. There was no indication on the menu as to what was in the lumpia and I forgot to ask so I was flying blind. I prefer pork but these were still quite tasty. DOLE WHIP: If the menu doesn't say anything, I expect that my Dole Whip is pineapple. AC was suprised and disappointed that it was a mix of pineapple and mango. We had waited a while for our food and were on the go otherwise we would've asked for a refund or for them to make a new one. Having a mixed Dole Whip isn't necessarily an issue but they should've said something. read more
